LEGO Star Wars 2023 Set Discussion - READ FIRST POST!!!

I wouldn't count on it. One thing you have to know about Lego is that they know how popular clones are. If we get a battlepack in the conventional sense I would never expect to get more than 2 of the same trooper. For example an officer, a sniper and 2 heavies. If you're gonna get 3 standard clones AND a relatively desired named clone, you're NOT i repeat, NOT going to get that at battlepack price (not at release anyway) Lego knows how much money is in selling sets with multiple standard clone troopers and they absolutely will not let you army build 3 of them for the $20 price point. It's a clone tax. Plain and simple. One we've brought on ourselves by showing we were willing to buy the 2020 $30 501st Legion Set. What *is* a possibility however is lego just ditching the entire concept of clone trooper battlepacks in favour of these higher price army builders. Put 3 clones, a named clone or a sought after variant in it and sell it for 50% more than a battlepack and the consumers will still just buy them up because it would still be the cheapest way to get clones. It would take less design work (no need to try and come up with non-canon clone ranks and designs, just put 3 standards in a pack and throw in either a named clone or old faithful, a recoloured airborne clone and make a 100 piece build) and they'd make more money off the people who go out and buy 20+ of them either way. My money is on this being a test for lego putting a little more effort into the builds with more pieces (200ish) and sell them for $30. I'd be down with it personally. Army building IS more than just minifigs so if it means we get some nice minifig scale speeders, at-rts and more obscure vehicles along side 3 standard clones and a more unique one I'm fine with that. Think about it this way. Lego doesn't make clone battlepacks with more than 2 of the same clone PERIOD. From memory it happened once in 2009/10 with that legendary clone walker battlepack. So your average battlepack is giving you 1 of the troopers you actually want per $10(adjust for inflation throughout years of-course) + 2 fluff troopers. A $30 set with 3 standard clones would be the same value but it would mean we'd see less "padding" figures (looking at you ki-adi-mundi, barriss offee, clone commanders, droideka and bomb troopers) and better builds. -

I will never forgive them for showing us possibly the coolest looking star wars villain since Vader and he just get's BODIED by ahsoka in 1 hit. Pretty much the issue with all the inquisitors. They're just storm troopers with light sabers and cool hats. -

I wouldn't put much stock in it being good to be honest. Pretty much 3 or 4 of them a year are decent minifigs. -

Do you happen to know what 12 they are lol? I know germany, UK, denmark, poland and spain has them. I would assume France, Czech Republic, Belgium and Netherlands have them but not sure how to check that without a very expensive holiday. -

Nice little bit of news for everyone. The Lego Star wars magazines (europe only to my knowledge) this month are a double special. All of them have an X-wing(micro) but there are versions which give a bonus gift of: Rey + BB8, Millenium falcon, luke skywalker, tusken raider, tie bomber and (IMO) most significantly, the 2020 501st Trooper. (They did the 501st Trooper in a magazine last year, and this double special is featuring previously featured gifts) This edition of the magazine goes for £6 in the UK (not sure of EU price, but it's gonna be about 50% more than the normal magazine cost) So if you're out on your daily travels you could pick up some standard 501st Troopers if you missed the 501st Legion Set. The 501st Trooper isn't expensive on bricklink as it is but this is generally still slightly cheaper. Yet another recirculation of the figure is only going to drive those prices down that little bit more for everyone else. F for lego investors but eh screw em. That's issue 94 btw. -

"a little red plating" Comrade, it is 93% red what are you talking about? And sure, if someone is insane enough to buy 20 regular LAAT's maybe they would buy 2 of a coruscant guard gunship. But the fact that the bought 20 of one, and 2 of the other illustrates my point entirely, it's not as versatile. Also the amount of people who are going to be buying 3 gunships is already like 1% of Lego fans, the amount of people who own 20 gunships is probably like 30 (total, as in 30 seperate individuals out of 8 billion.) They're not of note and should not be used as an argument to to illustrate how good or bad a set is. One guy who eats 37 snickers a day is not representative of the quality of snickers, they're clearly just insane. And sure the coruscant gunship isn't unique. Considering that we only actually see this vehicle once, and it's never even on coruscant, that kinda tells me there's probably a couple hundred at most. A vehicle that is used for special forces, seemingly on extremely sensitive diplomatic missions may not be "one of a kind" but if you looked into every single battle that ever happened in the clone wars, what do you think the chance of seeing one of them is? If your answer is anything above 0.5% you're being very optimistic. Point being: good ship, great set but 0 army buildability unless you're willing to pay £60 per shock trooper. Which you shouldn't. Even the figures in the AT-TE dropped to like £11 before the magazine came out so you can expect to be able to bricklink all the coruscant guards you want without buying multiple gunships. I can only imagine the people saying "army builder sets with named characters are bad" aren't army builders themselves because if someone bought 10 Republic Fighter tanks I guarantee they don't mind having 10 mace windus. If nothing else you can hold onto them in nice bags and resell them and make a bit of your money back. That's what i'm going to be doing with my 13 extra captain vaughns after that swamp speeder retires lmao. (I'm not buying with the intent to do that btw, scalpers are yuck. But if I'm buying an army builder with a named characters i'm not just gonna hoard the named characters) -

Most army builders would only buy 1-3 plain gunships, what makes you think we'd want multiple of a ship which may as well be a named unique. -

I'll probably get 1, it's very cool and if we had recently had a playscale gunship i'd be SUUUUPER hyped for a coruscant gunship. If it were a normal one i'd have gotten like 3 though because i don't have any of the old ones and I really don't want to have any of the older ones. So slightly dissappointed purely by the timing of the coruscant gunship. Aside from battlepacks i don't buy many of full sets but i'm going to buy a second AT-TE for my army soon. They're about 20% off from a lot of UK stores right now so that's quite nice. (they're going for £93, which is about $116) -

I'm not sure how it impacts the price of the figures overall but after the 212th magazine most of the ones i saw on bricklink in the UK and EU went from about £10-12 down to like £6-7. ($12-$15 down to $8-7 in US speak, no idea if those were/are the US prices though, it's kinda it's own eco system to us Europeans cus the postage from the US is like $25) Either way the magazines are a very good for the european market (as a buyer anyway) because they absolutely flood the market. The 2020 501st trooper is still like £6 because 1. the 501st legion set was out for ages and 2. we got it in a magazine as well. Oh and as a little note for us europeans looking for the magazines w/ clone troopers Issue 93 was March 2023 and it had the 212th Trooper (I think it actually came out in late Feb in mainland europe) Issue 81 was March 2022 and it had the 501st Trooper (again, late feb in mainland europe) Also. those issue numbers will vary by country but basically, watch out for feb/march 2024 if you're looking for another clone trooper. I also suspect we might see another kind of army buildable figure in July/August 2023 (based off of me looking at past years) Patterns are never guaranteed with Lego though so stay vigilant. April 2023 will be an X-wing and May 2023 will be Episode 2 Obi-wan for anyone wondering. -

I would have preffered another clone type in the swamp speeder but i really like it in theory to be honest. We originally saw 1x 332nd Trooper in the AAT in 2020 and the figure and set have been pretty pricy since their retirement. So seeing Lego re-use the clone in a cheap army builder set for those that missed the original is really nice. I have to imagine it's good for business too. You make a new clone trooper, you put it in one set where people can only get a couple at a time. Then once that set's off the market, you get more value out of the work you did to design it and any extra work or money that had to be spent to accomodate for that figure by re-releasing the figure in a battlepack/battlepack-like set. Everbody wins really, we get a second shot to get clones, much cheaper than originally, and lego doesn't have to design anything new for these price points and in the long run we see less clone sets hogging the market each year as lego paces themselves with releases. The RFT, AT-TE and Clone accessory pack all coming out the same year is just overwhelming army builders and taking slots away from non-clone sets. I'd love to see a similar thing happen with the 212th once the AT-TE retires, and the Coruscant Guard when the Gunship retires. As well as basically any possibly army buildable clones in future. I could see them making new 41st Elite for a turbo tank and giving us a 332nd Swamp Speeder style set with them after it retires a couple years later. They could do a AT-OT or AT-AP with 327th and then do it with them. They could do the Wolffepack with some kinda vehicle and then do the battlepack thing. They could do for example, assuming an average of 2.5 years of a bigger sets being on shelves: 2023: Reused 332nd, New Shock troopers 2024: (July, AT-TE retires) then in august we get a 212th battlepack style set. 2025: Introduce 41st Elite in a turbo tank (just an example i don't need to hear about which legion or vehicle would be better) 2026: (July, Gunship retires) august, we get a shock trooper battlepack style set. 2027: Just let the clone sets currently available breath a bit, leaving room for non-clone prequel sets 2028: (July, Turbo tank retires) august we get an AT-AP with new 327th Troopers. 2029: 41st Elite battlepack 2030: (July, AT-AP retires) they introduce wolffepack clones in a set. 2031: 327th Battlepack 2032: ETC you get it. Big clone set, it retires, the army builder clones are re-used in a much cheaper price point. I'm sure some TCW fans would still complain about not getting enough new clone legions but hey, not everything is about them. There's plenty of CIS sets, TPM sets, AOTC non-clone and ROTS non-clone sets that need some love too. But an average of 1 BIG clone set every couple of years, with small clone set every couple of years is perfectly fair. We get an average of 1 clone set a year, with a new clone legion every 2.5 years, and a re-used legion for army builders every couple of years. Plenty of room for people to get as many clone as they want, they get all the big vehicles covered in the big sets with all the small vehicles covered by the small sets. Your wallet isn't overwhelmed as an army builder with that system. Importantly, people who want stuff like Jango Fett's starfighter or any other iconic, non-clone prequel set aren't having their limited prequel era sets every year absolutely choked out by clones. 1 clone set a year (on average) leaves a good few slots open compared to the 3 last year and the 3 this year (4 if you count the venator which is technically true, it DOES have a clone) The system would also let lego pace themselves, assuming they're only really going to hit the major clone legions (501st, 212th, 41st, 104th, Shock Troopers, 327th) they wouldn't really need to remake any of the legions for like a decade (aside from that cheaper army builder sets they'd all be used in) It's not gonna happen because it's too predictable and lego doesn't like that because then you can plan your purchases better, meaning they get less FOMO money but still. I'd like that timeline. My money would be on Wolffe in 2024 in an ARC-170 (WE NEEEEED A NEW ONE PLS LEGO) and then a Turbo Tank or AT-AP with Gree in 2025 since TLG seems a little more receptive to the idea of anniversary stuff. (it'd be the ROTS 20th anniversary, the movie with gree and a turbo tank in it.) -

None of the battlefront 501st have a plain 501st chest. Or do you mean you're gonna put 501st helmets on the 332nd/plain 501st bodies? -

@united.bricks.official on instagram just posted a P2 Rex on their story. Captioned with "I got sent this P2 Rex, take with a grain of salt though as it's not confirmed from my source" I'm looking at it and it's definitely not just a fan build one cobbled with 501st specialist parts. It has a distinct chest piece with an armor piece we haven't seen on other figs (not the one from the 501st Heavy) and it has a printed waist cape similar to the 501st officer but with different knee markings. It also has a cloth pauldron and the helmet looks different from the old helmet as it has a black line above the visor which was absent in the original old figure. It does NOT have arm printing though, instead using full blue arms. It's actually very similar to the one we see in the skywalker saga game but with no arm printing and with a much better looking helmet. (Skywalker saga actually uses the 2014 style of clone helmets and made a very ugly big chinned Rex helmet out of it) It could be a photoshop or a decal job for sure. Could be a look at what we're getting though. -

My money is on the wing turrets being made out of something like the AT-TEs small turrets, the thing with the 2 half spheres. I have seen depictions of the LAAT with white non-transparent turrets on the wings. So maybe that? -

One thing that is of note here, our source references the death of Fox. But Fox does not die in the clone wars. THORN DOES. Could our intrepid leaker be mistaking Thorn for Fox? Perhaps? Is it much more likely that they just aren't that much of a fan of star wars to even notice the difference on screen? probably. Is it probably still fox? yes BUT THERE'S HOPE
