That is partly the point, Hero Factory isn't as deep as Bionicle. I am not saying that Hero factory is shallow and has no substance, but Bionicle has many layers, while Hero Factory seems to be abot capturing foes, nothing else. I like the sets, but the storyline ultimately isn't anywhere near as complex, nor as full of hidden easter eggs and foreshadowng. I know that Hero Factory has only just started, and could grow to be complex, but Bionicle started off deep. For instance, in Maori Mata means face. And what was the isle of Mata-Nui? In 2008, eight years after the story had begun, we learn that that island was the face of a massive robot. Some fans even theorized early that the Matoran Universe was Mata-Nui(the robot), based off hints in the novels and other sources. Bionicle also figured recurring villians, most notably Terridax. Some probably got tired of him coming back after each defeat, from the Toa Mata's attack to Takanuva's weird duel(I blame the movie), then to the flashback with the Toa-Metru. But this was because he was a chessmaster, not a brutasl warlord. His defeats were calculated, his losses were planned for. In truth the heroes only ever won because he wanted them to do so. Compare this with hero villians, who only last six months. Bionicle reached tons of media, which admittedly Hero Factory has as well. But Bionicle has reached more with novels, comics, graphic novels, serials, four movies(ignore the first three though), quides, sets, online instructions, brickmaster sets, minifigure sets, and fan made contributions. There was a time when people could send in their Toa designs, or their unique Rahi, or even their Makuta creations, and possibly become canonized. We, the fans, could influence the storyline. Usually we only helped in small ways, a name suggestion here and there, but we were involved. Bionicle also featured something Hero Factory has not, death. I am not saying that death made the story better, but it made the story more plausible. With all the dangers heroes and villians faced, death was bound to happen. I know Von Nebula is "dead," but to me not recovered body means not dead. In Bionicle we lost heroes, Matoro especially comes to mind. The first Matoran we ever saw in the comics gave his life so that Mata-Nui could live. We also lost Lihkan, Botar, Hydraxon(original), Carapar, all the 2008 Makuta, 2003 Rahkshi, Jaller(he got better), and lets not forget the Bohrok. The revelation that the Bohrok, which the villagers had taken apart for robot suits, were originally Matoran was really disturbng. It took a few years to realize the horrors the Matoran had done on the island, but that was one big payload. The horror the Toa Nuva felt, knowing that they had ripped apart and canabolized their people, that was a good payoff. I doubt Hero Factory is going to feature body horror like that though. All in all Bionicle can't really be compared to Hero Factory, because it is not just to sell toys. If it was, why keep the story going after the sets stopped being made? Or why have a story about a set no longer being sold? (Toa Nuva in 2006 for instance, not to mention that in 2009/2010 the Chronicler's Company teamed up again) Bionicle, to me at least, was a movie, not one of those three minute ads in the theater.

I assume that if he doesn't, the team leader will decide his course of action?

Nice MOC, but the different themes seem to have uneven amounts of attention. The steam punk region seems to be the smallest, with only one(2?) small hallways. Butbmaybe the group here prefers cyberpunk and fantasy? Either way it is a great creation and you can easily see where the genres begin and end.

True enough, it could be like Elemental energy and Toa energy in Bionicle, both powers are in Toa but they have very different natures. One recharges by itself, and when the other runs out you become a Turaga. But you have to admit, the heroes are advancing at an outragous rate. We know that way back when Stormer was a Rookie, they were already using the 1.0 format, and the heroes had been around for a bit by then. But in a little over a year they have developed 2.0, 3.0, and soon there will be 4.0 technologies. I know the rate of advancement can accelerate, not too long ago the internet didn't exist. But still, it sems like they are updating heroes way too much. One could argue that the 3.0 upgrade is more like a specialized 2.0, like the jetback version of 1.0 Bulk, but then why name it 3.0, like it is the next generation? And even if we believe 3.0 to really be "2.5," then 4.0 is still different enough to be "3.0." It has a different chest piece, Agori style heads, and for three heroes a bigger body. So that still means that by the start of 2012 Hero Factory would have replaced their basic design twice in the last year. It just seems like the factory is updating their technology too quickly. Now I know that Bionicle also has made multiple toys of characters, some in the same year. But the natural metamorphisis from Matoran to Toa to Turaga explains away much of this. The Toa Nuva, Toa Mahri, Takanuva(2008), and Toa Hordika are a bit harder to excuse, although each happened because of mutations and wasn't really a technological leap. Gresh(star) just got new armor, Tahu(star) was demutated into his original form, and Takanuva(star) just cloaked his colors. The Makuta are shapeshifters, so they have an excuse for Teridax's many forms. The only two transformations I think of that resulted from technology was the upgrading of all Matoran of Mata-Nui(the island), and the Adaptive Armor of the 2008 Toa Nuva. So while we get four figures of Jaller/Jala, Takua/Takanuva, Tahu, Lewa, Pohatu, and five for Teridax(Turaga Dume, "Ultimate Dume," 2003, Maxilos; and the Antidermis in Zamor spherex technically), most of these changes are freak accidents, and are not the result of tech improving in an extremely short period of time. One the matter of the common theme of good goes bad, I hope that one day we see a planet that has seceded from Hero protection, after noticing how often the robots at the factory go evil. Perhaps for the plot, the inhabitants built their own guardians for their defense, which have a code of ethics firmly engraved in their minds to prevent corruption. The heroes head to that world while chasing a villian, only to have to face the planet's own distrusting protectors. Edit: wow this looks much longer posted. Sorry if this seems like a rant, it wasn't intended to be so.

That is remarkable. It clearly resembles the Episode II Jefi Starfighters, I especially enjoy the nice sloping of the wing. And to think this is made solely from a V-Wing. It is a little narrow though.

Green Army Men requisitioned with Minifig Cat Gear

No longer are they cute toys, now they mean business. A ton of detail is present in each of these, I can imagine that without their bases they would be quite top heavy. -
Understandable, Elf heads are awesome. By the way, are there any plans to feature Link in the dark realm, before he acquires the Moon Pearl? I am curious to see how a pink Lego rabbit can be made to resemble Link.

If the Heroes' weapons recharged on their own, wouldn't it be a good idea for the Heroes' Cores to do so as well? I know they need Quaza, but you think by now they would have found a way to get around that, since the entire factory gets updates every six months. Heroes are the protectors, the ones fighting against evil. And although the plot makes this hard to believe, I assume they usually have great uncorruptble agents(except for Von Ness, Witch, and Stormer when he is sick). But a gun can be used by pretty much anyone and thus could be used against the factory. Sure, one could argue that their weapons have some sortt of "genetic" lock with hero "DNA", but at that point it gets silly. I don't believe Bionicle used nature magic, it was pseudoscience at best.

Heroica RPG - Quest #4: Taming the Lions

OOC: I know, but if De'kra gets hit he would be totally useless in both fights. De'kra's hand twitched as he looked at the glowing dark humanoids, their eyes piercing the darkness. There was a memory of something like them, or many things like them. One memory featured such creatures who were pure evil, while another had a group bathed in blood, but still granted redemption. Glowing eyes in general struck a cord, perhaps it involved his race? His eyes also gleamed, though not as sinisterly. -
Well until you figure that the energy has to come from somewhere. And we know a Hero doesn't have an infinite power source, since refueling has been more than mentioned. So there are points in a fight where the hero will run out of power. Even the elemental Toa had to recharge their energies, though they did so automatically.

Heroica RPG - Quest #4: Taming the Lions

De'kra realized that his physical attacks won't be much use against the swordsman, and instead moved to attack the Mopag Mutant Spearman from the Front row. -
Should the Library be updated with the two new quests that have started? I only ask since quest five was added, though it has not ended yet. Also; I was laughing at this, until I remembered I am in his quest...

De'kra drew his blade, and headed to attack the swordsmaN from the front row. The figures reminded him of something, something familiar. It was not really a memory, it didn't taste the same in his mouth. It was something...terrifying, that memory. -

De'kra nods, the path would be a lot more dangerous than the prior one. "Perhaps heroes and I first go to Emporium to collect Potions, in case heroes and I suffer damage in raids? Six nights of danger, best heroes and I prepare." -

De'kra nodded, the Mopag forest could hold vital clues. "Path in forest there?" he clicked, "Map not show path, because path not good travel nor safe? Heroes and I need guide for forest?" -
Great keep, the contrast between the bulk of the building's smooth sides and the tower's brick build is a little jarring though. Still it has a ton of details, but why is an archer on the front line?
-
Very vibrant design, the colors really make the scene cheerful. The landscap is full of detail, but what is the battle droid head? It's on top of a tree by the mine's entrance, but I can't tell for sure if it is a bird or not.

Really, I saw his design as six feathers, making a pair of wings. But since he is built like a heavy hitter(his promotional 2.0 nickname was Steamroller), stone makes much more sense. For some reason Evo reminds me of Edward from Fullmetal Alchemist. Maybe it's the yellow armor or the gunmetal arm, or the fact that Evois now "short", but something about it makes me think of the older Elric brother.

De'kra thinks that it could be a good idea to head over to the tavern as well, though he only motions this with a nod. As he looks around the shade considers buying a Venom, a Potion, or a Smoke Bomb. As a Rogue he can flee if need be, though hopefully the quest won't require that. And he already has a Venom, without which he still has a decent weapon power. But at the same time he has a Bedroll, and can recover from his wounds there. Still, other times he might not have as much time to rest. -
And now I have been immortalized with two questions on the FAQ. Still, good to know that even if I mess-up big time I still kget to keep the objects I did earn.

When you lose a quest, do you keep the experience and items you earned in battles? Or do you lose them like any reward you were given to complete the quest? In short, if you lose the quest is it like you never went on one at all?

Heroica RPG - Quest #4: Taming the Lions
Tanma replied to Brickdoctor's topic in The Heroica Archive
De'kra nodded, as they could at least search the store. And who knows, they might find something cheap. After the barbarian spoke, the shade stepped back. He had a good point, if they had sold their loot hints of it could be at the store. But would the merchants reveal the names of their customers? OOC: I believe that when you level up your total health increases, is this correct? -
Great Link vignettes, have you considered using the Elf's head for Link without his hat? Or perhaps it could be used for Zelda, some of her incarnations have blond hair. Are you covering all the games, or just the 2d ones? Either way, these have great details and I am excited to see more of these.
-
Agreed, I have nothing against his shape at all. Personally I find his lack of extra weapons cool. He not only is short, but has only a gun arm for protection, yet he is fighting a villain all by himself. Maybe he doesn't have extra weapons because he doesn't need them. Yeah I also noticed the chest designs, but what is Evo's supposed to be? Or Breez's for that matter?

Heroica RPG - Quest #4: Taming the Lions

De'kra stretches his limbs, releasing some tension. He was glad that the group had won the first battle, but this had been a low level fight, other duels won't be as safe. Looking over the region, the shade clicks, "I doubt heroes and I have money for big store, two of heroes and I have no gold. I suggest store only might heroes and I have extra time. It not night yet, so perhaps Pale Mher maid best choice. What you think?
