Marvel Superheroes 2024 - Rumors & Discussion
psqidexslizer replied to Clone OPatra's topic in LEGO Licensed
I agree 100%. I’d like comic based versions of all the Avengers we haven’t gotten yet. Black Widow. Vision. Scarlet Witch. Quicksilver. Dr. Strange. Antman. Wasp. And classic versions of Thor and Hawkeye would also be appreciated. Villains would be great too. Ultron. Kang. Baron Zemo. Enchantress. The Leader. The Mandarin. Classic Loki. Etc. -
Marvel Superheroes 2024 - Rumors & Discussion

Arm Fall Off Boy isn’t Marvel. -
1-3 is typical for super heroes sets coinciding with a film’s release with Avengers films and The Batman being the only ones to get more. DC typically has their releases skipped entirely, but, then again, this is Superman who is still (arguably) the third most recognizable superhero and the launch of a new universe. I think 1 is a safe bet but wouldn’t expect more than 3. And I wouldn’t count on any massive sets like the Sanctum Sanctorum.

If this happens, it would be the second or fourth year. 2015 had 5 JL sets to two Batman sets (granted, Batman had a large presence in 3 of those JL sets, but they were all technically centered around other heroes). 2018 had 3 JL sets, 1 Aquaman set, and 3 Batman sets (unless you count TLBM sets, then Batman technically has more, but that is arguably a separate theme.) 2017 similarly had only 3 JL sets and one Wonder Woman set (again, I’m counting TLBM sets as a separate thing).

Peacemaker is probably the one character Lego wouldn’t be willing to do just because everything he’s known for is rated R. But, at the same time, his chances of being in a set probably actually went up just because people actually know who he is now. If we got less Marvel sets, we’d just get less sets. The only way we see more DC sets is if DC gets more popular. Marvel isn’t holding DC back. DC’s failure to connect with audiences for the past 11 years, outside of R-rated content, is. If DC sold well, we’d get more DC sets. They don’t and so we’re stuck with the five we get.

I won’t deny it’s not iconic. But a big part of that is it’s one of the few movie scenes where the director was able to get the audience to root for an innocent man to be gunned down by a serial killer. It really isn’t the type of scene Lego would want to be associated with, even as an 18+ set (which are, without any exceptions that I am aware of, simply sets that are more difficult to build and not sets based on more controversial material).

The only two sets we’ve gotten from TDK were 18+ UCS Tumblers. Unless you’re talking about TDKT in general, in which case we also got a system scale Tumbler for Begins and The Bat vs Bane’s Tumbler for Rises back in 2013. But, anyways, I think you missed my point. The violence isn’t the problem per se so much as it is the lack of traditional comic book violence and big action set pieces. Begins has the Tumbler Chase. TDK has the Tumbler chase. Rises has… another Tumbler chase. And the fight with Bane in the sewers. All of those scenes are fun, will appeal to a 8-12 year old, and therefore Lego can produce a set based on them. What does Joker have that is similar to those? There’s also plenty of iconic vehicles such as The Bat, the Bat-Pod, and the Batmobile that all make for cool display pieces. And some cool locations like the Batcave, the sewers, Ra’s monastery, etc. Joker has none of those. It has no cool vehicles. No fun locations. Not even any cool gadgets or weapons for buildable models. I love Joker, but it’s not a film that Lego can produce sets for, even ignoring the 18+ rating.

Regardless of whether it was R or PG-13, Joker wasn’t a movie Lego could really make sets of. What scenes would translate well into Lego sets? Joker teaching the three Wall Street boys on a train how to carry a tune? Joker telling Murray Franklin another joke? Maybe a hospital bed where kids can play out Joker showing his mother the same loving care she showed him as a child? There’s no big action set pieces, no fun and wacky vehicles, not even any fun hero vs villain confrontations. Just Joker dancing down the stairs and shooting people.

There was a JL cartoon not that long ago. I want to say it came out in 2018. It doesn’t seem to have caught on. So it’s not as easy as just making a JL cartoon. They need to make a JL cartoon that will actually appeal to kids today, who seem more interested in watching YouTube and TikTok clips as opposed to an actual cartoon.

Marvel Superheroes 2024 - Rumors & Discussion

The trailer did technically show him. -
I think it will come down to word of mouth for this film. If the reviews are great and a lot of people like it, it could end up doing well. Superman has the benefit of being a household name who hasn’t had much exposure lately. So it’s got the benefit of being recognizable without feeling like it’s been done to death. I can’t tell if this is the lighting or not, but it looks like Batman’s cape might be dark blue on the inside.
