Sweet meciful batman, that post is finally over - the final battle is upon you, 48ers! You have 5,400+ Hp to hack through, get cracking. Eidolon's description was NOT meant to be that big: I tried to compact down his War Tactics special, but it ended up looking hard to read and ugly.

Heroica RPG - Quest #48: Death's Homecoming
Endgame replied to Endgame's topic in The Heroica Archive
"Before I waste a few minutes of my precious time acknowledging the asinine dribble you are currently spewing... Would you care to take a look downwards? Punii, who had been nestled on a battlement, hazards a glance downwards... and immediately staggers back, rolling into a trembling ball. The heroes approach the tower's edge, Eidolon silently chuckling as they look downwards into the castle's courtyards. Proggs. Hundreds of Proggs, all standing down there. This wasn't a completely foreign sight - they had braved both the rally and the coronation - but something was different this time. Before, they had been rowdy, cheering and roaring for whatever figurehead was currently in their presence. But this gathering was silent, their claws all wrapped around their weapons. All of them were taking aim, preparing arrows and mixing bombs. Hundreds of bows were pointed upwards, ready for their Emperor''s signal... Dozens of healer, their magic ready to mend their master. Entire legions of Aerial Proggs, ready to battle alongside their ruler. These Proggs were not celebrating. They were ready to fight. "I will not make the same mistakes as my two younger brothers - lone wolves may be formidable creatures, but they get devoured by sheer numbers eventually." Eidolon begins to sadistically chuckle, making a grand sweeping motion over the entire legions of Proggs beneath the Heroes. "I brought a little bit of help for this final clash." Eidolon claps slowly, in mock praise. His chuckle from before had became a sinister cackle, his claps accompanied by rumbles of thunder from the black sky above. "You get it! You finally get it! You say we have this conversation over and over and over, yet you still haven't gotten the damn point yet! You humans don't deserve peace! You humans don't deserve any of the freedom you cling on to, any of the hope that helps you through each day! You pathetic creatures don't even deserve life - only oppression and unrelenting death for the atrocities you have committed! It is because of your kind my species were slaves. Your kind forced me to line my beloved brothers with scars, beat them into submission. Your kind is rotten to the core, a disease spreading rapidly... growing more and more disgusting with each generation! It took you this long to truly comprehend what this invasion was all about - even though we said it since the beginning?! Death! The Era of Eidolon will bring nothing but death and suffering to humankind, just as the human's reign brought it to my people! It is time for your kind to pay its debts to Proggkind the rest of Olegaia!" Eidolon's voice grows louder and louder as he speaks, slowly descending into his madness and fury. By the end he is screaming, the storm gorwing more and more intense by the passing second. Thunder roared and lightning struck, illuminating the darkened sky that hung above the heroes and their adversary. Eidolon wasn't even attempting to hide his hatred, the party practically feeling the thousand years of hatred and anger bottled up inside the royal abomination. Lightning slithered its way around his every appendage, his eyes like tiny suns in the dead of the night. The wind howls as Eidolon continues. "You are the only things left standing between the Proggs and the Era of Eidolon. Any words at this juncture - meine, and even yours - are empty at this point. Meaningless. This battle was fated in the course of history, and as is my victory over you filthy creatures! This bloodstained night will end with your demise, heroes. You think there is hope?! You think there is hope for any of you?! GAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH! I shall blot it out, just as I will blot out your verminous species. None shall stop me - here or ever! Fear the wrath of Emperor Eidolon, executioner of mankind!" Eidolon was past the point of reason, the terrifying beast closing in on the party. Some of his words rang true, however, despite the emperor's madness. This genocide was to end, here and now, no matter the victor! -Prepare For The Final Battle!- "This is the end, heroes - are you ready?" Eidolon had been eying the party expectantly, as if waiting for their course of action. The wind bellowed, quite nearly sweeping the party off of their feet. Rain pounded down on the heroes, tiny daggers barraging the entire party. In the center of this calamity was Emperor Eidolon himself, red strands of voltaic energy coiling up and down his arms, cracking and surging with immense power. He hovered in the storm, practically a hurricane this point, unfazed by the weather; enjoying it, in fact. The Emperor speaks: "Do you truly think it is? Do you truly think that this battle is over, before it even began? You're so confident. Do you truly think every soul you have encountered thus far is a liar? You have been told so many times, by both ally and enemy, of my might... they are not to be doubted. You know... When my brother dragged himself back from here, he was in the most sorry state I had ever seen him. Rhodus was bleeding from every orifice, one of his hands sliced clean off. He practically dragged himself to the shores of the isle, bloody and beaten. I had knew that humans had once again been the cause of the Proggkind's misery, and had to be destroyed. For just squatting in an abandoned cave, Rhodus barely escaped with his life. Funny, how this entire genocide... all this bloodshed and death... started with a simple real estate disagreement. And yet, you humans felt it appropriate to simply mindlessly murder and maim the dozen of Proggs that were originally in Luosh. It seems mankind is hellbent on destroying every single being their influence reaches, thoughtlessly slaughtering anyone who remotely presents a challenge... Solving their every problem with violence and killing, war and genocide. Fortunately, mankind's time of retribution is nigh. Rhodus came back to our island bearing a sword, a blade of great power: Combrys. I believe that the wererat wields the blade now, correct? Nonetheless, the incident made it clear... Heroica was to be the bane of all Progg activity. All other humans could be easily crushed, swept aside and destroyed in a mere instant. Fragile, so easy to simply crush and move on. And yet... you heroes still walked Olegia. Champions among your pathetic kind, the only ones capable of standing up to us. We knew you were going to come, we knew you were going to be an issue since day one of just planning this invasion. And yet, I chose to toy with you; a guilty pleasure, I suppose. It would've been so easy to just murder you the second you stepped past the border into Luosh, end your lives before this even all started... It was my mistake, and soon enough you began to think of yourself as my equals. Fools! Pathetic fools! You think you lowly creatures are a match for an emperor? Perhaps defeating all of those Gladius Unit members was a given... maybe even Rhodus and Aquos. But to make it all the way here, struggling and toiling at every step... all for naught! All for the honor to die at the hands of an Emperor! Death I will gladly dole out, in the honor of all Proggs who were lost today! Have you any last words, before I wipe you off of the face of Olegia, heroes?! Savor the few moments you have left - for they will be your last!" QM Note: I will kick off the final battle this afternoon. Last minute prep time! -
I do all of my calculations mentally - probably why I've messed up Galen's gold too many times!

Rain pours down the shaft as they ascend, the climb to their final battle seemingly taking hours, perhaps even days, to the heroes. Anticipation and fear plagued their minds, knowing that Emperor Eidolon himself awaited them at the top. This night had been one of the longest yet for the heroes... in a few short hours, a complete genocide had occurred. People had been saved, many had met their demise. They had faced trial after trial, challenge after challenge, but now everything was finally coming to a climax. All of the activity they had encountered on this night had faded into a blur, though they remembered each face and their words as if they just occurred moments ago. Every place they had visited resurfaces... The words of all of the people they had met yet - friend and foe - echo in their mind... "Eidolon cannot be stopped!" "Eidolon is a terror to behold." "Eidolon will reduce you to ashes, and scatter you to the four winds!" "We will die for Emperor Eidolon!" "Eidolon is a force to be reckoned with." "Clip Eidolon's wings and bring that tyrant down!" These thoughts swirling around their subconscious, the party reaches the top of the ladder, and step out... Eidolon. -

QM Note: Gah! Fugazi, your gold total has caused me more math errors in this quest then all my others combined. -
"Gnnrgh! That frog has a mean set of fangs on him... and I didn't even know frogs had them. To think, I went from striking down dictators and dark generals to... this. I should be fine without a potion, if I attack from the backrow once I can't possibly be KOed this round." I chug a Mead and attack Bad Rat E, both from the back row."
-
Isn't that most of them? Though if I am thinking the same thing you are thinking, then... Also, whoops! I meant to put a in my previous post, not a Fixed.
-
Fun fact, the Dini Manor had a belltower meant for the fight with Eidolon since the beginning: Although, Dini has definitely remodeled it since then. Also, the 48 and 53 final battles are about to begin... side by side. Can't wait to see what lies behind those doors, Zepher.

Does damage to the target equal to all conscious party member's WP added together. The special effects in the weapon (such as decay) are not transmitted. 5: Critical Hit: WPx3+Level Everyone in the room looks at Sylph, bewildered. "What is this, I don't even..." "I didn't know *wheeze* twisting the human tongue like that *cough* was possible..." "Might impressive, lad! No, unfortunately, I have nothing else to give you. Best of luck - bring that tyrant down for Luosh! Lest that beast's wrath consumes all of Olegaia..." With Howard's parting words behind them, the party presses on to the only other door in the room. It was practically trembling on its hinges, rattling and rumbling. As soon as the party swings the door open, they immediately see why... The storm that had bombarded them in the Mystrinitri woods had only intensified during their battle with the manor's defenses. The winds howl and roar, unrelenting gusts sweeping across the entire walkway. Frigid rain hamers down at an incredible rate, drenching the heroes as soon as they open the door. Thunder clapped over and over, lightning striking in the distance. *achoo!* "Absolutely brilliant." The long run through the rain the party had ahead of them only seemed to grow longer and longer and the party looked at it, the distance practically stretching before their very eyes.. Knowing what they must do, the party steps out into the heavy rain... And make a mad dash for the other door. Their every footstep is followed by a massive splash as they sprint to the other end of the battlements, none too eager to be out in the open longer then they had to. The party looks upwards as the run, marveling at the massive belltower towering over them. A massive black shadow seemed to be circling it, as if waiting for his prey... Suddenly, a bolt of red lightning burts from the lingering shadow, landing on the bridge. Part of the walkway crumbles from the massive jolt in an explosion of pebbles and debris, the heroes going too fast to hit the brakes. A gaping hole was left in the bridge, but the party, gaining momentum from the slick surface, decides to take a chance and tries to leap over the pit. They knew that a misstep could possibly be fatal at this height, but it was too late now... Eidolon had to be stopped. The party, in a dangerous leap of fate, clear the pit. Punii clings to Sylph's leg after the gigantic hop, unable to keep up at the pace the party needed to be going at. It seemed that the rest of their dash would be obstacle free, but they are clearly proven wrong when two giant harpoons bathed in electricity erupt from the overhead shadow. They plant themselves on the bridge, electrifying the nearby rain waters. In a split second decision the sprinting party evades, narrow dodging the electrified weapons of destruction. Having dodged all of the hazards in the path, the party doesn't other stopping when they reach the door, the seven men (and one progg runt) practically go tumbling through the doorway, landing in a pile. There you go, parkour. Panting and gasping for air after their frantic dash, the party gets to their feet, untangling themselves from the mess of a pile they had created. The room was a relatively simple one - hardly large enough to holde the eight warriors of Luosh, but plenty high enough to do cotnain them. The room ceemed to spiral upwards as far as the eye can see, the actual ceiling extending out of sight. It was a windowless room, and yet the party can still hear the poudning of the strom outside. The only thing in the room was a ladder, extendning all they way up to the top of the tower. It was there where all accounts were to be settled in this genocide, once and for all... Hal seems a little melancholic, knwoing what foe they were about to face. He speaks pensively. "You know.." he sighs. "I grew up in this town - one of my ancestors was the first to establish Luosh. He was the one who establish the Luoshian Guard. Over the generations, my family eventually deviated from the role of leading the guard, pursuing other careers... and after nearly a half-century, I was the first Bohrd to ever take up the mantle again. I swore to protect this city, and all who dwelt within. And yet, under my jurisdiction, this place has gotten as close to hell itself as a town possibly can. I am then guardian of this city... and yet, more then a thousand of those beats still run rampant in Luosh, terrorizing every single man, woman, and child. I cannot bear to even think of the deathcount this genocide has churned out..." Hal grips his halberd a bit tighter, turning his gaze up the ladder. "I am the sworn guardian of my city. I swear, I will do my damndest to save Luosh, even if it means my death. But... I would've never even handled the first wave of manor enemies without you heroes. We'd all still be cowering in the town hall, trying not to win this war but simply prolong our lives for an hour or two more. So for that, I want to thank you before this final battle. You've done everything within your power to end these bloodstained few weeks, heroes... and now, we finally have the chance. You've killed Rhodus and Aquos... now, only one more head of this virulent snake needs to be chopped off. Eidolon is going to die tonight - for Luosh!" Hal raises his halberd into the air, practically shouting his last words. He loved this city more then practically everything, and it was clear he was willing to die for it. The heroes, invigorated by Hal's speech, ready themsleve sfor the impending onslaught of a battle that was just up this ladder... The final battle was upon the group. It was time to end this, once and for all! QM Note: I'll give you a few hours to roleplay/B&P to decide what he is doing, and then I'll shove you up the ladder. -

Dini's chains are sliced clean in half by Alexandre's armor-piercing sword; any other blade would've never sufficed, just harmlessly pinging off of the bonds. Dini stretches and pinwheels his arms, trying to get the blood flowing in them. "Just a few cuts and bruises. No permanent injuries to speak of - though, I am positively famished. Here is hoping they didn't raid my pantry, the shelled beasts... As far as I am aware, the big one - Eidolon, I believe his name was - awaits you on the Bell Tower. The Bell Tower is the highest point in the manor, and the second highest in Luosh... considering the massive storm that is brewing, it is a rotten place for a battle. I'm willing to bet that winged cad is behind it, though. Heroes, Eidolon is no laughing matter. He imbued himself with the most magical power, being the eldest of the three brothers. The other two were basically stuck with Eidolon's table scraps. I'm sure he was a potent fighter, if he managed to do that to me even before he got his powers. Eidolon wields power like none other I have met. He is no laughing matter, heroes, for even he outmatched my greatness on the battle field! The Bell Tower is quite easy to get to... just head straight. Eidolon is waiting for you, heroes... Strike him down and clip his wings, for Luosh!" -
"Gentlemen, if you don't mind, I am going to take a Smelling Salts and then a Nostrum. I realize it creates more free hits, but if I roll a single Gold Reaper, I can gut some of these vermin instantly."
-
I just copy+paste the entire round, paste the new battle order over the old one, and roll from there. DLL's tendency to describe the entire party's course of action in the order helps me cut down the time and pain needed to run a round signifigantly, and I can't thank him enough for it.
-
Have you guys thought about how much Dini's manor has been trashed - some thanks to you? He has had his front lawn ruined by tunneling, his foyer's pillars collapsed, at least 2 door busted and the staircase out of his basement shattered, his ether lab was set on fire and his grand hall has been ruined by all the fighting! Poor Howard, at least Ayla talked him into getting home insurance.

Does damage to the target equal to all conscious party member's WP added together. The special effects in the weapon (such as decay) are not transmitted. 5: Critical Hit: WPx3+Level The party all chug consumables, knowing that their showdown with the maniacal monarch was nigh. Their weapons were drenched in venom and various enhancing substances coursing through their veins, they felt that they would atleast be able to last against Eidolon for a little bit... Though his power was undoubtedly huge. Sylph still felt the twinge of pain left by Eidolon's burns, the emperor reducing the druid into a smoldering heap in mere seconds. Sylph plunges an arrow into The Suffering, the arrow prvoing to be the fatal blow. The winged Progg was a solider, and didn't mince words... he deid content, knowing his master would surely tear the party to shreds. Another member of the Gladius Unit was slain, stripped of his hide and possessions. Now, only The Regret remained; though the heroes were unsure of the magnitude of poer the Progg weilded. The heroes take one last look at the giant room around them, the gargantuan room basically becoming a colloseum. Stepping over The Suffering and the dead bodies of his troops scattered about, the party forges into the next room. There, they find a face familiar to Alexandre... Howard Dini The Great. The usually mighty ether-user's face lights up immediately at the sight of the heroes. Alexandre, in particular. He seemed to be stripped of all of his magical equipment, his trademark dual wands gone from his personage. His hands were bound behind him by chains, the bond attache to the pillar. "Ah, Hal, Punii, heroes! And Alexandre, too! It is good to see you, my lad... though I'm afraid I and my manor is in a bit bigger of a pickle then last time." "Mr. Dini, you're *wheeze* okay!" "Dini, how long have you been there?' ""Okay" isn't the term I would use, yonug Punii, but I am alive, and thankful for it too! Get this: I, the great Howard Dini... have been bound to this pole for 24 hours stragiht! My stomach is quaking at this point! First, these detestable things rob me of my magic wands and tie me to this pole... Then, that giant flying one and his 2 brothers have the nerve to use my Ether Lab to imbue themselves with magical powers! What a mess this is..." -
Is Barty viewable to the the entire party? if not, disregard this. Years of training have allowed my ears to pick up the phrase "undead abomination" in even the loudest of locations... Hearing Boomingham's fluttering companion was easy. It was a phrase I unfortunately heard every day of my life... or lack thereof. "Here I was 400 years ago, thinking that religion was meant to teach acceptance and prosperity. Pfft. It is little more then a tool - no more, no less."
-
"I'm uneducated in animal communication... for all I know, they may just understand it and not be able to respond. Not to mention he is a frog made from magic, who knows what he can and can't speak. If he proves uncooperative, we can have Alexander have a word with the critter.
-
"Well, it appears we've got our frog, gentlemen - or a frog, at any rate." I go down to my knees and talk into the hole, my voice echoing around the thine little passage way. "Excuse me, kind frog! We are looking for a Ziegfried boy who turned himself into one of your kind - croak twice if you know of him, or croak three times if you are him. Don't worry, we mean him no harm - just want to reunite him with his sister."
-
Explanation 1: I believe in (Quest 2?) the party got a reward of 1,200 gold to split amongst 6 heroes - here, it was 350 among 5. Not to mention, a lot of the loot i gave out was immediately consumed in the coming battles... I feel as if they should've just gotten a little more gold. Explanation 2: They've got enough loot on 48 already on this battle , and they also got a handful of smelling slats/nostrums/meads... not to mention some mini-boss items (one that is good, and one that will become really good down the road.) Also, double EXPs.
