Heroica RPG - Quest #48: Death's Homecoming

QM Note: And you still want me to drop the imbuing price?! Eidolon speaks bitterly to Galen. "Of course I have experienced fear. What do you think the early years of my life were? Even though I was royally, most of the time it meant naught - the prince of slaves is still a slave. If anything, my position and the Progg's situation mostly just damned me to a more difficult life those 1,000 or so years ago. Though I was but a child, the responsibility of my people's welfare still fell on my shoulders... and it was absolutely crushing. Proggs were dying every day, either at their slavemaster's hands or their own. And who do you think some of this fell on? It was a burden that plagued the royal line until the day we finally wiped those wretched tyrants out. Fear has made me the Emperor I am today... but unlike you humans, I took my fear and bettered myself from it. I went from the receiver of fear to the one who spreads it. All your species can do is stalemate when afraid, collapse under pressure and hope it all goes away. Ha! Cling on to your petty hope all you like, heroes - but know that I will take great pleasure in beating it out of you!" Round Fourteen of the Final Battle! >Sylph Frails Gauntlet R (back): Success! >Sylph Frails Wing R (back): Failure! >Elgar seals Gauntlet R (back): Failure! >Galen VS Wing R (back): Special Damage Miss >Alex VS Eidolon's Tail (back): Damage (No confusion, 29/2=15-13=2 damage) >Johon VS Emperor Eidolon (back): Damage Hit (8+22=30/2=15-20=0 damage) >Johon VS Gauntlet R (back): Hit Critical Hit (8x3=24+22=46x2=92/2=46-6=40 damage, 10 damage decay placed.) >Punii makes jellies: No jellies made! >Galen VS Gauntlet R (back): Hit Critical Hit (10x2=20+17=37x2=74-6=68 damage) >Hal VS Gauntlet L (back): Damage (27/2=14-3=11 damage) >Romulus VS Wing L (back): Miss >Medic! All parts of Eidolon's body are healed for 120 HP! With Galen now standing at their side, the party launches into another assault on Eidolon. This time they focus on his Gauntlets, made fragile and clammy by Sylph's scrolls. Galen, resolute after his previous brainwashing, chucks his wrench at Eidolon's right hand. The Gauntlet already had cracks running up and down it, but Galen's projectile proves too much for the already damaged claw. The Gauntlet fizzles with electricity as pieces of it crumble off from the wrench's impact, until it finally explodes off of Eidolon's hand in a burst of electricity. What was now exposed was far from a pleasant sight: it seems the Gauntlet was not mere armor, it was welded directly into the Emperor's hand. The arm-cannon's explosion had taken off a fair portion of the shell with it, the loose plates of shell and armor being thrown away by the winds of the massive storm. Underneath where the Gauntlet once was was black pulsating flesh, crackling with a few jolts of red static. A crack opens up all odwn Eidolon's forearm, revealing more of the fleshy interior underneath the shell. Eidolon's mocking tirades become foul vitriol, the Emperor pulling his arm back to prevent further damage to it. The Progg spellspinners below finally muster up the resources to heal their emperor, but unfortunately is was too late for Eidolon's right hand to be repaired. He was down one hand but still kicking... "Nnnrgh! You dare to defy an emperor?!" Galen stands rigid, a dense fog cloduing his mind. Sylph's druidic magic manages to clear his mind, all notions of serving Eidolon vanishing. In disgust he rejoins the party, ready to deal some damage to the massive Progg before them. With status ailments flowing through the veins of Eidolon's every limb, the forces, man and Progg, clash once more. Eidolon nearly gets in a few good hits, throwing out devestating haymakers, but the party's death-defying luck saves them from the Emperor's wrath. His body beginning to enter a state of disrepair, Eidolon shouts down some orders to the mages below. The sepllcasting Proggs, their ether spent after their enthralling mist, frantically chug tonics and glance over spellbooks. A synchronized sound of pages turning can be heard faintly over the monstrous storm, the mages getting ready to mend their master... Eidolon mocks the party, still confident he would best them. And at this rate... "Ohh, poor Galen. Soaked, bruised, battered, and had his mind hijacked. I wonder how being so utterly helpless feels... Then again, I doubt fear is a foreign emotion to among your species of weak-hearted insects. And I suppose like all insects, your only purpose in life is to be crushed!" "Give in!" Emperor Eidolon, Level 39 Ancient *Badly Poisoned!* *Crumbling!* HP: 1422/1850 SP: 14 20 Ether: 30/70 Specials: Emperor's Wrath: Attacks the hero who rolled Special Damage for damage equal to the combined level of every single hero on the field. EMP: At the cost of 10 ether Eidolon sends out a burst of static, nullifying the hero who rolled special damage's postive effects and dealing 24 damage to all heroes in the row of the hero who triggered the special, that hero included. All heroes have a 1/6 chances of becoming Confused from the white noise. (Can be remedied or removed for 5 ether each.) Charge Up: Eidolon builds up electric energy. At the end of the next round he releases it in a devestating bolt of energy, dealing 29 damage to the entire party and spending 20 ether. Specials decided by die roll. If there isn't enough ether for Eidolon and all of his appendages to perform a special, nothing happens. Immune to all scroll effects! Yes. Never thought the old hermit was so short though, but that makes it that much better...
-
Gah, plot points being withheld from everybody! Utter Chaos!
-
Wren Win = Total chaos and pretty much destruction of everything, Heroica isn't even a blip on the radar.
-
Zoot is actually just a floor. That's what Wren meant by pulling the rug out from under over him!
-
Hmm... Could've sworn it allowed me and Flare to go back and add tags on our Quests. Was that only for existing topics after the board switch?
-
Pit you against a god? No, silly, my enemies in 48 have had an ungodly amount of HP thus far. It disqualifies them from godhood.
-
Bah! Wren is by no means a pushover... but she is an indicator of how powerful a god is, the divine pantheon of Heroica is screwed. Also, calling it: Master of Regret comes and eats Wren's soul as she is defeated. Cue true final boss battle.
-
Perhaps I'm just misinterpreting Zepher's writing, but it seems that even Wren broke her own philosophy in her desire to become Goddess of Chaos. She believed that people should earn her fates, but she has been messing with souls, manipulating people since day one, and now causing "collateral damage." She has gotten to the point now where all that is left is her own insanity. This entire quest I've seen her degrade into a raving lunatic, and it has been rather awesome to see. Whether or not it is intentional, well...

QM Note: 1/4=0.25, not enough to round up. -
I'm right here - the time has come and so have I! The Stealer knocked out the party and left them in front of the Hall - only the Stealer knows where the Apprentice's body is. Hex is possibly one of the greatest tools in a QM's arsenal! it can be devastating (if the rolls turn out that way), but no matter what it is a good roleplay device and creates party friction. Delicious. That, and I needed to fill a slot in Eidolon's War Actions. Be glad I didn't switch the two encounters.
-
Eidolon's Skull (SP: 24. Can be used as a small fortress.)
-
Also, congrats, Flipz. You now pretty much having a waiting list of people who want your character dead. Even I'm on there, in a weird way! I may have to make an Endgame doodle or two to portray all that is going on in Heroica at the moment...

With the thrum of magic rumbling below them as they face the Emperor, the heroes and Progg rush eachother once more. Sylph fails to heal galen at first, his concentration ruined by the flashes of lightning, but he succeeds on his second try. Elgar confuses the Emperor's tail once more, the limb now prone to appendages. It almost seems to have a seizure from the constant spells that were being layered on it. The party runs at Eidolon's thrashing limbs, dealing miniscule amounts of damage. Even in his weakened state Eidolon seemed to not care about most of the hits being landed on him, even giving Hal another round of shock therapy in his arrogance. Fortunately, his ether supply was beginning to dwindle, and as was his tail's medical integrety... The mages down below finish weaving their fiendish spell, the purple cloud of magic once again assaulting the heroes' senses. This time Galen's mind collapses under spell, his eyes fading to a dull black as he walks towards Eidolon.
