  1. Agreed. "Favorite" is also very different from "iconic". Just because you like something doesn't make it iconic, so let's try keeping it to truly iconic covers. Speaking of which, I agree with def that Batman #404 is indeed quite iconic, perhaps even one of the most iconic, so here it is:
  2. That's not a Sith Trooper, it's a Super Trooper! Seriously though, the Republic trooper's head is obviously wrong, and I'm pretty sure the Sith trooper wont have a Superman head either. I mean, why would a minifig that usually has a fully closed helmet on need double-sided head printing? As others have pointed out, there have been mistakes on the other ebay minifigs too, so it's entirely possible. I have to agree with the others, this is obviously a new smirking face and it's much more accurate to her face from the show than her previous minifig incarnation. You might be right about that last part though, and I also hope that the mouth on the 501st will be printed lower in the final sets. Hopefully we'll get a review of him soon too so that we can better tell if it's a misprint or not, and to see if there are holes for accessories on the side of the helmet, although my hope for that being the case are dwindling with every new picture I see of them.
  3. Thanks. Here's some more fun with Aang, Amidala, and the B'Omarr monk! Monkey-Lemur by Oky - Space Ranger, on Flickr B'Omarr Ninja by Oky - Space Ranger, on Flickr Geishamidala by Oky - Space Ranger, on Flickr
  4. The episode was OK. I liked the droid more than I thought I would and it was nice to see Hondo act more like a pirate in this one. Yeah, I wouldn't be surprised if that happens. If a Gungan can beat him, I'm sure an egoistical youngling can do it too. Yes, it is. What makes you say that? Just because he's in an episode with Maul? Hondo survived an encounter with him just fine, so why not Embo?
  5. Very nice topic, def. It's indeed very fitting (and useful) for Superhero Month. And I agree, a Fantastic Four #1 cover in Lego would be awesome. As for other iconic covers, I think the A Death in the Family one is pretty iconic. It features the first death of Robin and gets homaged quite often as well. It's very simple, but that's what makes it so powerful. It might be hard to do it justice with minifigs, but I'm sure some of the expert Lego photographers out there could do it. Another such cover is The Killing Joke. Released shortly before A Death in the Family, this comic marks the end of Batgirl and gives the Joker a sympathetic backstory. It has had a lot of influence on the DC Universe and other Batman-related media. Both of these issues show the Joker at his worst and make Batman's conflict with him more personal. There's also this comic where Lex Luthor gets elected president of the US (which incidentally has already been recreated in Lego by yours truly). It's one of the most iconic images of the character and this event is referenced relatively often. Also, if you're going to mention the introduction of the DC Multiverse, you might as well mention its destruction: I don't know much about comics, but these are the ones I could think of. Would be great to see any of these legofied for the contest.
  6. Thanks everyone, and nice ones, Hammerstein. I also got the Gungan Sub, so here's one using the figs from that set: Pretzel Hair by Oky - Space Ranger, on Flickr The Last Air B'Omarr by Oky - Space Ranger, on Flickr Transvestite Viceroy by Oky - Space Ranger, on Flickr
  7. Yeah, I see what you were going for, but it doesn't really work in my opinion. I suggest using a different head, one with an angry expression, such as Hawkeye's. This will give you an angry mouth, and the eyebrows which will show through the eye holes will look like closed eyes. I've tried it and it works pretty well. By the way, I think you have to change the order of your images. The rules state that your recreation of the cover should be the first picture in your post.
  8. Very nice, Penguin! Very close to the original. If there's anything I would improve about it, it would be to give Batman his jetpack wings in order to closer resemble the dynamic shape from the cover, and maybe add a white 4x4 dish behind him to represent the moon. Good luck!
  9. Not bad. Simple, but accurate. However, I'd turn up the contrast and push up Batman's cowl so that you can see his mouth and not the line in his eyes.
  10. The Rebel Bloggers' review of The Gathering is up. Seriously? A droid is teaching them how to assemble a lightsaber? Not to mention that he seems like a ripoff of Olivander from Harry Potter. This story is getting worse and worse. I don't think even Hondo can save it. I wouldn't call that a success. Who cares if the base is destroyed? We already know that Grievous can break stuff. In fact, he's really good at it. What we do want to see is him killing some Jedi, something he is supposed to be known for but is never shown doing. And I agree that in such a kid-oriented story it's unlikely that they'll kill off one of the main characters. Not really. "The end" could be anything since we don't know when the series will end. It could be the end of season 6, but I doubt it.
  11. Not sure what to think about this. I can't see much good nor bad coming from this. It's just whatever to me. Who knows, maybe Disney will be able to find somebody who can make an actually good movie based on a Hasbro property such as Transformers. It's just rumor right now anyway. Are you kidding me? They'd have to be some of the biggest morons in the world to let LSW end! It's a gold mine, especially with new movies coming up, and they know that. Ditching that in favor of Krappy-O Star Wars sets would be a really bad move. Besides, as others have said, we still have ten more years on the current license. If anything, I think this could mean good things for Lego. I think they have a fairly good relationship with Disney, so perhaps Disney will give some of Hasbro's licenses into more capable hands.
  12. I'm actually thinking of a different superhero's logo. That was just an example. Thanks.
  13. Things like a Batman logo on a Batmobile.
  14. Wait, so we can only customize minifigs? I thought the decals rule applied to any kind of decals. At least that's what it sounds like. If not, it would be good if that rule would be amended for clarification.

  16. I thought we weren't allowed to photoshop anything into the picture? Anyway, nice recreation. It doesn't quite capture the epicness of the original cover, but I know it's impossible to pose Superman that way and his grinning face is the closest we have to an angry face for him, and it's hard to create lightning with Lego, so I think you did your best. Good luck.
  17. Very good point, I agree, although the books category will also include comics, so builders will have lots of stuff to recreate there as well. Also, dividing it into videogames and books allows entrants to build things from both before and during/after the OT in both categories. We were thinking about dividing it even further, but we decided that that would create an unnecessarily large amount of EU builds, so it will be two CBs either way.
  18. So the movie themed CBs are over. Next, Masked Builder will host one about the Clone Wars, and after that, we'll be left with the EU. The EU spans a lot of material, ranging from videogames to books and comics, all telling stories from all over the Star Wars timeline, so it only makes sense to break it up into categories. We've been thinking about how we could divide it best and we have come down to two options. Brickdoctor suggested that we should have one CB set before the OT and one CB set during/after it, whereas I suggested that we should have one that covers the videogames and one that covers the books/comics. So what do you think, fellow EBers? Which of these two options would you prefer?
  19. To justice and beyond!

  20. Thanks for entering everybody! This community build turned out very well again. There were 29 entries this time, which is less than the previous two builds had, but still an impressive number. All the entries were great! EBSWCB EpIII Entries by EB Star Wars Forum, on Flickr If this is the first Star Wars community build you have participated in, please choose one of the tags at the bottom of this post and tell us here which one you would like to receive as a token of appreciation. Well, this concludes the prequel trilogy community builds. I hope you enjoyed them as much as I did. But don't fret, there are more fun community builds on the way. I will probably step down as the host to give someone else a chance to do it. See you next time, and may the force be with you.
  21. My sigfig is technically already a superhero, but even a space ranger has to follow the law which tends to get in the way when trying to bring evil doers to justice. Therefore, after being exposed to some cosmic radiation on one of his missions and gaining incredible superpowers, Oky decided to become a vigilante. Simply known as the Green Ranger (no relation to the Power Rangers character) he flies throughout the galaxy fighting criminals and the evil emperor Zurg by his own rules! To justice and beyond!
  22. Nice ones, kyphur! I recently got Jabba's Palace, so I have some new material to work with. Here are some more from me. The first one is a belated Halloween themed funny: Never Trick Or Treat At Jabba's by Oky - Space Ranger, on Flickr Also, I have always wanted to make a mouse droid joke, and the recent events regarding Star Wars have given me an idea for one: Mickey Mouse Droid by Oky - Space Ranger, on Flickr And last but not least: UFO Roof by Oky - Space Ranger, on Flickr
  23. Yes, the community build is closed. I will post the conclusion later today.
  24. That's silly. Just because it has one extra line doesn't mean it's fake. They probably just forgot to include it on the CGI pic or decided to include it on the final figure after releasing that pic. And the areas that have gradients are supposed to indicate metallic/shiny printing. You can see it in the Brickshow review of the fig: EDIT: Besides, the minifig at NYCC looked exactly like it: It's probably just a misprint that will be fixed in the final sets. 76001_prod by fbtb, on Flickr
  25. Neat contest! But how much picture editing are we allowed? Can we add the publisher's logo, titles, etc.? What about things like special effects? Also, can we apply decals digitally? Thanks in advance.
