Agreed. They pulled off the stop-motion look very well and it's awesome how even the special effects are brick-built! And the level of detail is incredible, like how the light reflects off of certain pieces, right down to the little scratches and dust particles like on the Batphone! If it wasn't for some of the somewhat rubbery movements of the characters, I wouldn't be able to tell that this is CGI! By the way, does anyone know what song they're playing in those character videos?

The LEGO Movie Sets News and Discussion
Oky replied to Itaria No Shintaku's topic in Special LEGO Themes
While I have had enough of Batman sets, I actually wouldn't mind if that Batmobile from the movie became a set. All the space vehicles would be cool to have too!- 2,626 replies

Good ones, Mr Breden! I was thinking of doing those jokes too at one point, but never did for some reason. In fact, I made a funny once that compared Thor to Boromir too. Nicely done, although I wish you would have made the speech bubbles more legible.

Ugh, I hope this is not the final version. It resembles neither Ariel's grotto nor any part of her palace; it's just a big, pink gate. I am usually fairly tolerant towards pink and lavender pieces in themes like this, but in this case they just seem out of place. They should have used light blue or green or white. Oh well, at least it seems like a good parts pack with that purple starfish, golden binoculars, and printed music sheet tile. And is that a new seaweed piece behind the illustrated Ariel's head? Rapunzel's Tower is bigger than anything we have ever gotten in the modern Harry Potter theme, so I don't think there is any reason to complain that it is too small. As for the castle, I can see how it might seem small compared to other Lego castles, but I think it's still a decent enough size, and considering that this theme is aimed at younger children, I don't think we could expect much to begin with. At least these sets are much better in terms of juniorization than the Superheroes Juniors sets. However, I can't argue with the fact that these sets seem like dumbed-down, kid-friendly versions of the scenes from the movies they're supposed to represent, which is disappointing to see, especially after they seemed to be doing a good job at trying to break away from the stereotypical girls toys with the Friends theme. I'm hoping for that too, especially since it's the second most iconic Disney castle and they already have all the molds they need for it from the Orient Expedition and PoP themes, but even if we do only get a Carpet ride scene, I don't see why we wouldn't at least get Jasmine's tower from where Aladdin picks her up. After all, the set can't just be them on a brick-built carpet. I don't think it's about the look and more about making them easier to build. The fact that they end up looking poorly constructed to AFOLs as a result is just a side effect. That's my theory anyway. By the way, could Cornelius or one of the other mods please update the thread title?

So it looks like Abrams will be writing Episode VII as well, along with Lawrence Kasdan. Whether this bodes well or badly for the final product remains to be seen I think. http://www.technologytell.com/entertainment/30593/star-wars-episode-vii-writer-gets-the-boot-and-look-whos-replacing-him/

Wow, the Merida set looks great! It even includes cookies, wisps, a flag with her family crest, and all three Triplets! And is that a purple bow and arrow? It's still odd how it is a mash-up of completely different scenes from the movie, but I'm okay with that. The only thing that's still sorely missing is Elinor, but you can't have everything I guess. The other sets look very good too, but a bit too girly for my taste. I'll wait for final pics to make a decision on whether to get these. The new dress piece works surprisingly well for all these different princesses. I hope that crab in the Ariel set is just a stand-in for a new Sebastian mold though. Also, the carriage doesn't seem to be quite the right shape, and it seems like a terrible tease that they include a fairy wand, but no fairy. Looking forward to the other Ariel set!

Nice find! Looks like I was right about them being waves of 9 individually packaged characters. Did you find a listing for 41503 as well? I'm guessing it's the crazy-looking rock dude in the lower right corner of the background art. Sadly, these new Mixels aren't as interesting as the first three we've seen. They don't seem to have any new parts and look kinda like alternate models of the first three. Also, looks like they will cost more than $4. Seems fair, though, given the average piece count. Still, I like the design and concept of these.

I like the game, although right now I feel like the gameplay is a step down from Lego Batman 2. Iron Man's flight controls are pretty bad and there seem to be much fewer minikits and golden bricks to collect than before. Maybe this will change once I am farther along in the game though. There are other minor things that bug me, but overall it's still a pretty good game. Why not? Why can't we expect the same amount of logic from a Lego game as we can from any other Marvel/DC/whatever game? Because Lego is for kids and kids are stupid? Give me a break. Sure, kids wont mind such logic errors as much, but even kids who know anything about the source material for these games will know that, say, Hulk and Iron Man could easily jump/fly over a bus. It just seems lazy that they didn't make some of these scenarios a bit more believable. You know, you are contradicting yourself here. First you say DC and Marvel don't have iconic music, but you go on to list themes from both Marvel and DC among iconic ones. And you are right, some themes are less recognizable to non-fans than they are to the fans, so saying that the Harry Potter theme is iconic, but themes from Marve/DC are not, just because you are really into HP and not so much DC/Marvel is pretty hypocritical since people who have been avoiding HP as much as you have been avoiding DC likely wont recognize the HP soundtrack either. The 60's Batman and Spider-Man themes are only so well-known by everyone because they have been parodied to death and have catchy lyrics. The Superman theme, however, has often been counted among the most iconic themes of all time, hence its use in Lego Batman 2, so no matter what your opinion of something is, it wont make it any less iconic. That said, I do agree that none of the modern DC/Marvel soundtracks are very iconic, at least not as much as the old Batman and Superman themes, so I don't mind them not being in the game. Quite frankly, it got annoying after a while to hear the Superman theme every time you took off, so I'm kinda glad to have more generic music in this game.

I agree with this completely. Putting armor on Man-Bat and having his wings stick out of his back instead of be on his arms as they should would be just wrong. The Bat-jetpack wings would still be acceptable, so if he does have something on his back, I hope it's that piece, although the Manbat arms would be ideal. I understand, and I agree with you.

I don't think this is the place to discuss the TV show, so I wont comment on that in here. Regarding the Riddler dragster, I'm pretty sure it's something that TLG made up, just like the steamroller, since major villains like the Riddler were never planned to appear in BTB. And even if Riddler was going to appear in the show, I doubt that he would be driving a dragster and wearing a racing jumpsuit. By the way, there is going to be a Bat Tribe in Chima next year. Could it be that Man-Bat will use the same new head and wing molds? It would explain the "flying device" that Man-Bat is rumored to have on his back, and the head shape would be more accurate for Man-Bat too. I wouldn't be surprised if this is the case, but personally I'm not a fan of the look of these Chima Bats, so I'm kinda hoping I'm wrong on this.

I don't get the hate for this trailer. It looks pretty intriguing to me and I'm much more excited for this film than I am for Thor 2. Although comparing Cap 2 to Thor 2 isn't really fair in my opinion. Making a movie that is better than the first Thor is not exactly a hard feat, whereas First Avenger is a tough act to follow, so saying that Dark World seems to be a better sequel than Winter Soldier is not saying much. I like that this film is taking a more serious tone (with the visuals complimenting this new tone) than the slightly campy previous movie (which wasn't bad, mind you, but it just seems like a logical step forward). It's like how the Harry Potter movies started to look less and less colorful as the tone of the story became more serious. And while I don't like seeing Fury being made to look like a bad guy, I do like that S.H.I.E.L.D. is getting some more flak as they should. I also like how this movie is a lot more connected to the MCU and more based in reality than Thor 2. I think it will show Cap confronting the 21st century plentifully in that he will try to deal with blurred lines between good and evil. And I'm sure he will have a personal fight with the Winter Soldier as well. Oh, and I am happy that we are finally going to see the iconic scene of a crashing Helicarrier. Also, the fact SHIELD seems to be using repulsor tech, along with the whole theme of this movie, seems to confirm the speculations that Phase 2 of the MCU is playing into the Civil War storyline. It would make sense for Tony to start working with SHIELD in this case.

Thanks. While he will return as Iron Man in Avengers 2, I think he is done being a superhero for now. I mean, if he wasn't serious about it, why would he have destroyed all his armors and stuff?

In my opinion, this would actually be a reason to include more since they wouldn't need any new molds or even prints to include them. Unlike with the Ring Wraiths, all they would have to do is include two more. I mean, what would anyone do with just one of the brothers? After all, what made them so interesting in the movie is the way they worked together. And I doubt that many are going to buy three of this set just for the bear. I think Merida as a mini-doll could work. She's about as skinny as the other Disney princesses. And yes, maybe Lego is banking on the fact that not many people have seen or remember the movie to notice any inaccuracies with the set. But then why make a set based on it at all? I see what you're saying and I wholeheartedly agree, but I'm afraid this is going to be a fairly typical Disney Princess theme in that it will be mostly void of conflict. At least that's what the first wave appears to be. As you said, let's hope for some more "atypical" sets down the line.
-
Ah, thanks! Can you tell us more about the dresses and Rapunzel's hair, what they looked like and what material they seemed to be made out of? As Cornelius said, the inclusion of one of her brothers as a bear doesn't make much sense for this scene. And why is it only one of them? Maybe they just really wanted to include a cute animal in the set. I would have much rather gotten her mother in the set instead, but it's better than nothing I suppose. Me too! I'm confused. How does this relate to me hoping that the sets wont have many girly colors? Regardless, I think these sets are very iconic and have plenty of story going on in them. The Ariel sets represent the iconic "Part of their World" and "Kiss the Girl" scenes. And what's more iconic than Cinderella's Carriage and Castle or Rapunzel being stuck in her tower and being visited by her rescuer? Not so sure about the Brave set as I am very unclear about what it is supposed to represent yet, but I'm sure it ties into the story of the movie somehow too.

So, according to this, there will be a Phineas and Ferb Star Wars Special in the second half of 2014. Any thoughts? I think this was inevitable after Mission Marvel, and I liked Mission Marvel, so I'm looking forward to this. I just hope it will be a crossover with the characters from the OT, not the Clone Wars or the upcoming Rebels series. Also, the Korra two-parter "Beginnings" was fantastic! It finally had that fantasy epic feel that I remember from A:TLA and that I've been missing in this show, and now we finally know what the heck is going on this season! It revealed some important plot points and gave us some nice info on the history of the world of Avatar, all told through a beautiful fairytale-like story! The visuals were great as well. All the colors and stylized backgrounds were a breath of fresh air after all the muted, realistic imagery in the rest of this series. The only thing that bugged me a little were the Fire Sages who seemed to have known about the harmonic convergence this whole time, but apparently didn't think it was necessary to tell the Avatar about it until now, but that's just a minor nitpick. Overall, I felt like I was watching a Miyasaki film and it made up for some of the mediocre storytelling that we have seen until now. While I realize that we probably wont get another episode with this kind of feel again in this series, I hope it's still a sign of higher quality stories to come!

Isn't his USM costume pretty much his comic costume? I could be wrong since I don't know what he currently looks like in the comics. Hm... Well, there is his (a spider-themed Iron Man armor). He also wore Samurai armor at one point and a diving/space suit. None of which are likely to be in these sets, I'm afraid.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2014 Rumors & Discussion
Oky replied to just2good's topic in LEGO Licensed
Interesting. It's good to see that Karai will be released. I'm not surprised that the T-rocket and sub will be released, although I can't say I'm excited for them until I see what minifigs they come with. The mutation chamber could be anything, but I hope it involves fly-Stockman. It's also good to know that we were right about the first three sets being based on the movie. -
As I said in the CMF S12 thread, I wouldn't be surprised if this is the case and it would make me very happy. And yes, I still think Nightwing will be in the Man-Bat set too. Agreed. The show itself even made fun of that look. It would have been much better and would have made more sense if he was based on his Ultimate look.

LEGO Collectable Minifigures - The LEGO Movie Series Discussion
Oky replied to Klaus-Dieter's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Ooh, that would be awesome! That would make buying multiple GLs to make a whole custom Green Lantern Core very cheap! It would make sense, too, since we do have rumors of a Green Lantern fig coming out, but none of the rumored Superheroes sets seem to include him.
