  1. Yeah, I think TLG might have tried to create HP sets that would appeal more to girls, but nobody knows for sure, unless there is an answer to this in the HP visual dictionary which I don't have. If anybody owns that book, can you shed some light on this?
  2. Well, I just watched the season finale of Korra on Nick.com and it was pretty epic! All these episodes since The Beginnings have been great and make the episodes before that seem rather weak. The first half of the season just seemed to be filler-ish setup for the second half and had a lot of what we had seen before, like love triangles and Korra being brash and apologizing afterwards. The fact that Unalaq was a pretty uninteresting villain and absent for most of the season didn't help. I agree with people who say that The Beginnings should have been shown first to give the viewers an idea of what the main plot was going to be about and give a reason for Korra to return to her pig-headed ways after the Book I finale. It seemed like she didn't learn anything from the last season. Aside from that, it was still a pretty good season. The finale, while awesome, wasn't without its flaws either though. Overall it was a good season and I look forward to the next. Only one more week until this thread gets flooded with MLP posts. Enjoy the quiet before the storm, folks.
  3. You're right, the inclusion of real-world elements like lollipops does disprove the idea of it taking place in the Lego universe even further and makes it seem like the whole movie is just something that a kid might imagine while playing with all these different Lego themes scattered across their bedroom floor. And it is possible that there might be a scene like that in the movie since the first rumors about this film did say that it would have live action elements in it. But in that case, where do the sets based on the movie fit into all this? I suppose one could just view them as a licensed theme that takes place in its own universe like every other licensed theme, even though it is made out of Lego City and Wild West elements.
  4. Hi everybody. Everyone is getting excited for The Lego Movie coming out next year and the tie-in sets have been getting generally positive responses too. However, there is one thing that has been bugging me about this movie: How does it fit into the Lego universe? The story of the film is still mostly shrouded in mystery, but what we do know is that it depicts a world almost entirely made of Lego, with a few real-world items mixed in such as lollipops, batteries, and glue, where all Lego themes co-exist in the same world, even licensed themes, with each theme being represented as a town in this world. My question is: Is this part of the Lego canon, i.e. how Lego views their fictional universe? The nature of the Lego universe has never been quite clear. In the beginning, the themes were all separate until Time Cruisers introduced the idea that they all exist in the same world, just in different time zones / locations. However, this concept was later challenged by the Clutch Powers movie which suggests that almost every Lego theme exists on a different planet in the Lego universe. The MMO "Lego Universe" and the Ninjago TV series (which references Clutch Powers) support this idea. Considering the time cruisers were capable of interplanetary travel, this concept doesn't really contradict that of Time Cruisers, even though it was usually implied that all the time zones the cruisers traveled to were set on Earth (except for the space themes). For more on planets in the Lego universe, check out this handy index. Now the Lego Movie comes around and suggests that all themes take place on the same planet at the same time. Is Lego retconing their previously established canon? Or is the Lego Movie taking place in its own universe, separate from all other Lego themes? There are several differences between things in the Lego themes and their counterparts in the Lego Movie that suggest that the latter might be the case. For example, Batman is portrayed as a parody of himself rather than the awesome brooding Dark Knight that he usually is. He is an egotistical jerk who is very bad at throwing Batarangs, and he is said to protect Bricksburg, not Gotham City, so this can't be the Batman that we see in the sets and videogames. Also, I don't think Octan was meant to be an evil mega-corporation that owns everything in the Lego world (including meat products) until now. So perhaps The Lego Movie is more of a parallel universe to the main Lego universe? If that's the case, how do you incorporate the Lego Movie sets into your collection? Do you integrate them into your Lego City layout or keep them in their own separate corner on your display shelf? Perhaps the movie will shed some light on this matter, or maybe it wont. But whatever the official canon is, everybody has their own "head canon" or idea of how the Lego Movie fits into the Lego universe, so I would like to hear your thoughts on this. So what do you think? Does the Lego Movie affect the Lego canon? If so, how? Or am I just being a total geek and completely over-thinking this?
  5. Thanks. I wrote that pane with Bale's voice in mind. 6. Hoth Bricks has some out-of-box pics. Sadly there doesn't seem to be any crab in the Magical Kiss set. Oh well, maybe in the next wave.
  7. Wow, the final Ariel looks great! And Flynn's face is spot on! The rest looks good too. Merida definitely seems like the worst one out of the bunch now. Oh well. But no Sebastian in either of the Ariel sets? It seems odd that they would omit such a key character. Hopefully they will at least include a red crab in the Magical Kiss set like they did in the prelim, even though I was really hoping for a new mold like Flounder. The sets themselves look better too, especially the carriage, even though the shape of it is still off. Thanks! Now how about updating the thread title? Agreed, it's certainly not as interesting as it could have been, but there is at least one other character in each set. That's enough to have some interaction and do some role playing. These sets are actually better in that regard than the Friends sets, most of which only include one character and ironically none of their friends except maybe a pet. Odd indeed... Maybe the dress is just turned the wrong way on the Carriage box art? That would be hilarious if that was the case, but I doubt it. Either way, it's always nice to get variations.

  9. Wow, those heads are huge. If you don't count his hat, these are even bigger than Woody's head. That's just wrong. Yes, the Simpsons in the show do have big heads, but they're not almost twice the size of their torsos which is the case here. Woody had an excuse since his head is indeed big in proportion to his body in the movies, and so did Iron Man due to the flip-up mask. These on the other hand are proportionally wrong and there is no apparent reason for that. I'll try to stay optimistic, though, and hope that the final figs will look better. Thanks for the pics.
  10. I agree with Cloney on this. While the jokes have in-jokes about Lego in them, they are funny on their own. The coffee bit, for example, could be seen as social commentary as well since coffee in coffee chains like this do tend to be overpriced. The fact that he says $35 instead of $100 makes this evident. Also the part about Emmet being so upbeat all the time because he has the classic smiley head. You don't have to be a hardcore Lego fan to get that joke, and even if you don't, you can still laugh at Emmet's naive optimism in everyday life. And there are plenty of non-Lego related jokes too, like the parodies of the Justice League members, so I'm sure there will be something to like for everyone, hence the generally positive reaction to these trailers.
  11. A bit late for Halloween, but a good one!
  12. Nah, that's not always a reliable source. I guess there is always the possibility that TLG improves on their first designs if a theme runs long enough, but unless they retool the look of the entire minidoll range, I don't think it's gonna happen. Also, I don't think we will get another Brave set anytime soon, especially since this one is a compilation of like 5 different scenes from the movie. Well, you're quite the optimist, aren't you? I don't think anyone needs a reminder of how insultingly superficial the Disney Princess toys usually are. Does it mean we have to like it? No. While you may be right that TLG might not have had much choice in the matter, it's still disappointing to see them take such a step backwards after the Friends line which this theme is based on seemed to make such progress in the right direction. So why don't you let us dream and hope that TLG might correct this mistake somehow. After all, this is the brand that keeps telling us that "dreams can come true".
  13. Yes, that would indeed have made her look more accurate, but if I'm not mistaken, none of the Friends minidolls have had any eyebrow color other than black, so maybe they did this to make the Disney princesses fit in with the Friends style. Makes sense, but the result is nevertheless disappointing. Why would there be licensing issues regarding the characters' faces? I admire your optimism, but I'm pretty sure this design is final. The person who provided the picture of the box claims to have bought it, and the fig on eBay just seems to confirm the design. Of course none of this is official confirmation, but right now everything points to it being the final design in my opinion. Like I said above, the design of the face is probably a stylistic choice (much like how other princess dolls have basically the same type of face as Barbie), and the hair would be difficult to portrait accurately as Cornelius pointed out. There have been far worse representations of these characters in other Disney Princess toys and Disney let those slide too. Compared to those, these actually look quite decent. I do agree, however, that it is weird how all these princesses look like cosplaying Stephanie clones. Are you saying it is not Stephanie's head? I'm pretty sure it is. Perhaps it is you who needs to check the website.
  14. I don't think the minidoll looks that bad either. The face and hair certainly could have been more accurate, but they are close enough for me and the dress makes up for them. The rest of the set keep looking better and better. I'm so glad they included all of the triplets! This is a definite must-buy for me! Let's see if the final versions of the other sets will turn out as good as this.
  15. Wonder Woman is an old fig from a couple pages ago. GL on the other hand is new... I think.
  16. Nice batch as usual, Penguin, they all look great. My favorite would have to be Pamela since she is the only one based on BTAS. I saw those Amazon warriors coming. And I like how you made a Catanas minifig too! But why no spotlight for GL? He looks pretty good too. So Prof. Pyg went from one of your least favorite Bat-villains to one of your favorites? Interesting. I'm guessing you're still glad that they cancelled the show?
  17. Thanks everyone! Hehe, nice posing. Is it supposed to be another Nude Gunray joke?
  18. 19. That set does look pretty good, with lots of nice minifigures and parts, but yeah, $90 seems a bit much. I hope Unikitty isn't actually evil, even though that would be a pretty good twist. I hope she has merely been "businessified" by Lord Business and will be back to normal by the end of the film. After all, she doesn't really look evil in the set, she just has business attire and symbols drawn onto her. Yup, Lego has already announced a Ninjago movie with possible other movies in the future. I would love that actually! Each episode could take place in a different Lego theme where Emmet and Wildstyle go on various adventures! There is lots of potential there, and they could do crossovers with Ninjago, Chima, and other Lego TV shows! But I'm getting off topic...
  20. Hm, that's a good point, I hadn't thought about that... That does seem quite disappointing and odd, especially since the HP theme was a lot more successful as a Lego theme as well. Maybe it's because HP isn't as easy to make fun of as DC? Or more likely, it's because DC is simply more popular currently whereas Harry Potter is mostly forgotten by the general public. Oh well, let's hope Harry at least gets a cameo somewhere.
  21. No Green Lantern!? So the rumor that there would be licensed figs in this series was bogus? Perhaps he will be in one of the sets, but I was really hoping he'd be in this series... Anyway, I agree that this series is a bit of a disappointment as a whole. There are too many variations of figs we have already had in previous series, and too many of the same type of fig, namely the Western robots and construction workers. That doesn't mean it's a bad wave, though, since all of these figs at least have some desirable pieces. I don't mind the main characters from the movie either since they seem to be exclusive variations of them and provide a cheap way to get those characters. So while I wish we would have gotten some more less generic characters, I will probably end up buying most of these.
  22. I think I have procrastinated on voting long enough, so here are my votes, based on creativity, execution, and how much you can tell that it is supposed to be a variation of the camper: 54. 23. I think I just got diabetes just by looking at that set. Wow, what a bizarre set. It's so cute and weird that you just have to love it! A nice parts pack for sure. I will probably skip this one since I don't know what I'd do with it, but maybe the movie will change my mind. It reminds me of Agent Coulson from LEGO Marvel Superheroes. I will call him Robo-Coulson from now on. I think this set is too surreal to be compared to any Lego theme. Sure, it uses the same colors as Friends, but a palace made out of candy on a cloud and guarded by a unicorn kitten and a snail isn't exactly something you would see in either of those themes. By the way, seeing as there are so many Wild West themed figs in the CMF series, is it safe to assume that there wont be many Western themed sets? Would probably be a disappointment for many people, even though we just got the Lone Ranger sets.
  24. Is anyone else getting a Pacific Rim vibe from the 2014 wave? Also, does anyone else find it funny that the heroes seem to be using mechs to fight the little bugs, but try to take on the larger monsters on their own? The sets are obviously meant to be combined, but the fights on the bag arts seem ridiculously unfair. It's interesting that they are giving HF the minifigure treatment like they did with Bionicle. I liked the Bionicle System sets as they were great parts packs. These don't seem quite as useful for System MOCs, but I still like what they're doing.
  25. Very good work! It's nice to see some Halloween spirit in the Star Wars forum! I think you did a great job recreating Doyle's technique for the facade, and the way you created the texture for the ground is great as well! I also like Luke and Han's costumes, and 3PO as Boba is hilarious! Happy Halloween!
