Action and Adventure Themes Discussion
Oky replied to Peppermint_M's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
There are said to be no more Indy sets next year and there is no other adventure theme rumored AFAIK. As you mentioned, LEGO is focusing on space subthemes next year. Maybe after that we might get a new adventure (sub)theme if Indy still doesn’t continue. How do you know that’s not what they did? What makes it “a dream for babies”? Like Murdoch said, it’s an action theme wether you like it or not, and a very creative one at that So basically Aquazone? :D Yes, I’d love an Aquazone reboot.- 230 replies

First they leave out the fig and now they replaced it with a minidoll? I think they’re actively trolling us at this point. -
LEGO Sci-Fi Ongoing - Rumors, Speculation, and Discussion
Oky replied to Lyichir's topic in LEGO Sci-Fi
SPACE ALL OVER THE PLACE! What a glorious year 2024 will be! I'm loving all of these Space-branded sets and I hope that this is TLG testing to see if people are interested in a new full-on Space theme and that they will be successful. I even love this Mars Base from Friends (Space Cat!!): I really like this idea actually since it lines up nicely with Rock Raiders lore where they also mined for crystals to fuel their space travel! Agreed! And yes, that's what it looks like. Not sure if it's just the Fifth Element vibes, but this design works a lot better for me than the Space Bus. -
Umm yes please! While the Easter eggs are much appreciated, we want more than that! Did you not see my post about this on the previous page? I reported on this based on @just2good’s video who was also at the LAN event where the designers revealed this info. Also, her hair always looked more dark orange to me,

It’s not meant to be modern. The set depicts the Orient Express at the height of its popularity (1930s) as you can tell by the outfits and technology like Pippin’s typewriter. I think she would look odd with the hairless old helmet (unless you use the old head as well), but maybe the CMF pith helmet could work. I agree too, that looked a lot more like her.

The Adventurers treats keep on coming! Apparently this girl from the Ideas Orient Express is supposed to be Pippin Reed. She is not as recognizable as the new Kilroy or Johnny in my opinion since all the colors are a bit off. I think if they had made the hat white it would look a lot more like her, but the reference is appreciated nonetheless.

The dragon mask in the new Family Reunion Celebration set could be used for an updated Golden Dragon or Dragon Fortress Guardian from Orient Expedition.

Hello history-heads (I assume that's what frequenters of this forum call themselves)! Last month was Mechtober, a monthly theme build challenge where sci-fi builders create a family of 4 mechs, one for every week of the month. This year, the challenge was to incorporate a castle theme into your builds, so I decided to build mechs for my favorite childhood castle faction which is also the most appropriate for the spooky season: Fright Knights! These might be more sci-fi than what you're used to seeing in this forum, but I think it makes sense to post these here. The Fright Knights were some of the most technologically advanced factions in the LEGO Castle realm. From flamethrowing carts to various flying machines, they terrorized the other kingdoms with their frightening contraptions (likely thanks to Willa the Witch's magic and the help of the dark dragons), so it's not a big stretch to imagine that they had mechs too. Week 1 - Soldiers & Outlaws: Fright Force Fighter Mech The latest addition to the Fright Force's arsenal is the Fighter Mech, a powerful, mechanized suit of armor armed with a flamethrower, a shoulder-mounted crossbow, and a sword fighting arm. While it's a formidable battle vehicle, it is also expendable and built out of repurposed horse carriage parts such as hitchings, wheels, horse masks, chests, barrels, and torches, along with the usual decorative elements of the Fright Knights. With an army of these mechs, the Bat Lord will take over the realm in no time! The hitching safety bars can be lifted to allow the Fright Knight pilot to enter the mech. Week 2 - Peasants & Royals: Bat Lord's Royal Mech In order to lead his Fright Knights into battle, Basil the Bat Lord had a giant mechanized suit of armor created for him by Willa the Witch. Designed in his own frightening image, this terrifying titan towered over the Fright Knights' foes and was even able to engage in battle when needed using its giant bat staff and razor-sharp claws. It was even equipped with magic dragon wings for some limited flight capabilities. Basil the Bat Lord safely pilots his mech from within its chest. Week 3 - Wizards & Monsters: Willa the Witch's Wicked Spider-Walker Willa the Witch has magically created a mech for herself: a mechanical monster spider! With this wicked walker, she can take her potion making on the go and support the Fright Knights in battle. It has a cauldron in the back and axe prongs in the front similar to those on her windship. Week 4 - Heroes & Villains: Fright Knight's Mecha Warhorse Leading the Fright Force into battle is the brave Elite Fright Knight on his mechanical warhorse! This steed of steel is a giant walking fortress armed with crossbows, axes, and a catapult. Nothing stands in its way as it stomps forward to victory! For this one, I took on the Mechtober 2023 bonus challenge of building a motorized walking mech, so check out this video showcasing the feature! I hope you enjoyed this look at what the Fright Knights theme would have looked like if it was released today by modern, mech-obsessed LEGO. Let me know which mech is your favorite! Happy belated Halloween!

I was about to say this too. Would be fun to make a ghost adventurer or Baron Von Baron ghost with this. 👻

[MOC] Harry Cane's Hangar - 25 Years of Adventure Cat. B entry
Oky replied to Oky's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
Indeed. The builds were fairly basic by today’s standards, but they really captured the imagination. Thanks. Yeah, I was surprised when I looked for some inspiration that not many seem to have been built before. There are some modern hangars, but none in this classic style. Glad you like it!- 14 replies

Thanks for the great feedback everyone! Let me address some of the f the criticisms. Yes, I noticed this as well while putting this fig together. Odd how they designed it so that the patch is just kinda drooping down from the top of her head, but it’s one of the few female pirate heads. I did think about adding an animal of some kind, but couldn’t find a good way to add one in a way that looks good. Besides, I doubt anything could survive on an island with nothing but a single palm tree. As for the paddle, I was never a fan of the red ones. I was going for the more realistic color scheme in modern sets like in 70411 Treasure Island. Fair point. I just really liked how these legs match the rest of the figure as you said and thought they were piratey enough. The tree is actually a lot more stable than you might think and doing this would interfere with the play feature. While I don’t disagree, I wanted to use some modern parts for it, and this is how LEGO does palm trees in recent mini sets like the Friends polybags. If you do that, not only are the leaves offset, but also point upward too much. interesting suggestions, but I don’t think they would fit the story of the set. As you said, I was going for that typical island with palm tree look.

Thank ye kindly! Good playability along with pleasing visuals is what I was going for. Making the statue’s mouth move is indeed addictively fun! I hope I can count on your vote then.

[ENTRY] 6242 Soldiers' Fort (with bonus / value pack!)
Oky replied to Bfin9691's topic in Pirate MOCs
Nice fort and ship, although I don’t see much resemblance to 6242. If this is meant to be a remake, I would have stuck closer to the layout of that set. Also, I believe value pack bundles like this are against the contest rules, so you might want to submit the ship as a separate entry. Is there any interior you could show us? -
Thanks again mateys! i have uploaded it for you. I also added it to the first post. Thanks! Yes, I feel the same about the subtheme. To me, the Islanders were always a peaceful faction that mostly kept to themselves and only defended themselves when pirates tried to steal from them.

Thanks everyone! Yes, @The Reader guessed it correctly. The mechanism is quite simple, as you would expect from the Islanders. The face is connected to the coin container which slides up and down on the slope pillars on the sides. When you push down on the dish, the tongue simply pushes it up, creating an opening and a ramp for the coin to slide down. You can see the play feature in action in this video: Well, in-universe I imagine that it is a pressure plate that does require a satisfying amount of offerings to get the reward, but IRL the idea is that kids (or adults ) just press down on the tongue. It would require quite a lot of LEGO fruit to balance out the weight of the statue. I think that would compromise the structural integrity of the play feature. You could use the 2x4 equivalent of those tiles, but sadly it doesn't exist in gray (yet). As you can see in the video above, the friction keeps the coin from sliding too far. Also, I think it wouldn't be too clear that you're meant to place an offering there if there was no plate. Not sure how this could be done without going over the part limit. A surf board would be too thin for the coin to slide down on and doesn't have any way of attaching the dish at the front. I appreciate the suggestion though! And here I thought that would make it less offensive. I'm just trying to be respectful towards real-life islanders since the Islanders subtheme is considered a bit controversial.

On King Kahuka's island there is a statue known as the Idol of Fortune. The Islanders come here when they need gold. When they place an offering such as fruit on the plate in front of it, the idol opens its mouth and a gold coin comes out. Load the coins in the back of the statue! Press down the offering plate to lift up the idol's face and release the coin! You can see the play feature in action in this video: This 49-piece set includes an Islander woman minifigure with banana accessory. I hope you like this entry for the Mini Set Category. Please leave your thoughts in the comments below, especially if you find anything offensive about the portrayal of islanders in this entry.

I think it’s a pretty good design. The head is more detailed and the body more posable than the previously seen design. -
Disney Properties 2023 - Rumors & Discussion
Oky replied to Huigberts Builds's topic in LEGO Licensed
There is a new animated special on Disney+ titled “LEGO Disney Princesses: The Castle Quest”. It’s pretty fun and finally explains that odd Ultimate Adventure Castle from last year (sort of), but more importantly it features a brick-built Maleficent dragon! Given that there is one rumored to be released soon, this could be the design we’re getting, even though it looks quite different from the preliminary picture we’ve seen before. And yes, that is a Gaston minidoll riding her who serves as the main villain of the special, so we might get him soon too. Maybe the upcoming castle is indeed from B&tB, but has minidolls including him (which would be disappointing). Then again, the special also features a minidoll Smee on a giant pirate ship which I don’t see them ever doing, so who knows, maybe these are all just designs created for the special. -
[MOC] - 25 Years of Adventure Cat. C - Harry Cane plane
Oky replied to Zapalski's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
Nice Cane-plane! Got any pics of the front? -
Ahoy there! This is an entry for the Mini Set Category. In the middle of the Caribbean, there is a tiny island with a palm tree where the fearless pirate Cutlass Jane hides here treasure. A skull marks the spot! Use the shovel to remove the sand and reveal the shiny doubloons! This 30-piece set also includes a small tub and paddle that she can use to get to the island. This would be the first mini set to feature a female pirate! I hope ye fancy me entry. Comment away, mateys!

Very nice! Good to see another Kilroy entry. I wish there was more going on here than a big wall of plates books, a desk, and some maps, but I guess that’s fitting for a library.
