LEGO Star Wars 2018 Set Discussion - READ FIRST POST!

My theory on this is that as years go by, we get smaller and smaller sets and the overall number of large, expensive sets dwindles. It's a response to consumers having less money to spend on luxuries over time, etc. But that's just a feeling I have and I don't have any proof, numbers or anything demographic to back it up. There was a time you could never get a rare, sought-after figure in a small set - only the $100+ sets. But now - with Microfighters and especially the little Super Hero car things, TLG is making in-demand figures even more available. I'm relieved that the TLJ new walker kit is a pass. The only desirable figures are Finn/Roe undercover. Honestly, with all the walkers we have who needs an unfinished one. However, I do believe that the scene is taking place on -
Brilliant, mate. Jango's hardwood floor is gorgeous and the light coming from that fireplace is fantastic!! I see that Boba got a nice Slave 1 - and Jango got... Death Star Plans? That's excellent. Merry Christmas, Happy New Year to all you builders, reviewers, lurkers and moc'ers.

The bar shape looks different. In addition to the previously used 4x4 white macaroni bricks, it looks like there is also a couple of 2x2 rounded bricks in the middle of the bar curve. The landskimmer/speeder looks a little wonky. Still, it will be interesting to see how they did the build inside. Are those trans-blank dishes? For anyone who has the previous cantina from a couple of years ago, this is likely an easy pass, save for Wuher. I gotta hand it to TLG though, this set is brilliant for all budgets because you could get 4 of these and build a decent sized cantina. It's mostly all arches and booths in there. -

Evazan wouldn't require a new mould, right? Both Evazan and Ponda would look fine with printed faces - as evidenced with the custom fig Jedi-Bendu posted. Does anyone think that Ponda *has* to have a new mould? I guess Evazan's hair piece might be tricky... not sure what existing hairpiece would work. Just looking back at the previous Cantina, 75052, that was a really great set. Worth the price, almost. Great figs and the dewback was sweet. Build was inclusive. Will be really interesting to see how they follow up to it. -

Yeah I was wondering about that, too. If TRU does go belly up - what would happen to all those Lego kits that are store exclusives? Although... since you can also buy said kits at the official Lego store they don't really meet the definition of exclusive, do they? ex·clu·sive ikˈsklo͞osiv/ noun an item or story published or broadcast by only one source. Maybe the new small piece count cantina set offers the missing half of what we got in 2014!! Although if we don't get Doctor Cornelius Evazan and Ponda Baba this time... I'm not sure when? In what set would they be more appropriate to be released? -

That's... half the size of the previous one (616 pieces)! It must be pared down... or does not include a landspeeder. Hope we get a nice surprise in that one. -

Wow, I didn't even see that fifth leak. The microfighter Crait speeder is actually going to be my System scale size!! It's a good kit. A cheap way to access ST walker drivers for sure. -

Ahch-To: The smooth plate Rey is standing on suggests she has a turning action feature? Maybe makes the rock explode. Wish there were stairs but easy enough to MOC them in. Very satisfied with the green grass colors. Lots of great grey slopes for Imperial capital ship MOCers in this set. I don't know how many Lego porgs a grown man should own but I am thinking of getting at least three of these kits. Just a fantastic sized kit for this scene! Crait speeder: Speeder is way bigger than I'd hoped... oh, it's not gonna be an $80 set is it? I think this set would be way cooler with two smaller speeders... The tower/building is not what I expected but looks very cool. I wonder what's inside... Executioner "specialist" troopers look awesome. Love the staffs... with those blue electro staff thing pieces they'll be easy enough to MOC. The Scarlet Witch minifig (Marvel) comes with two. Kylo flying his ship with his lightsaber ignited made me lol. An excellent wave overall! Lego is doing locations/playsets right for 2018. Very encouraging. -

Damn. R/lego spot hit by a DCMA three days ago. Interesting that they were in danger of 'being shut down completely' over this kind of infraction. I used to really enjoy that sub, a daily check for sure, hope this isn't the beginning of the end of it. I adore playsets (especially not-Hoth ones), so it's thrilling to know that this wave will apparently have two of them. A bunch of City sets just got the official reveal. Maybe we'll get lucky and see some Star Wars ones next. -

Okay now we are talking. I hope the set really ends up being this, because a cave, some rocks to cut up and a campfire couldn't be priced more than a $25-40 set. You could buy a few of them and build a more substantial build of the island - and have a flock of porgs to boot. The opening tree makes sense. The 2x2 tiles are the The only image I can find is the "fake set" from YouTube. I am happy with the amount of green in that one - but it's a $15-ish price point of a build - and no porgs!! -

^ not only that, those TIEs are not First Order or First Order Special Forces... they are OT TIEs! Kylo's TIE clearly has time travel abilities. Does anyone want to discuss the tan fins (1x8 rudder) on the side of the sandspeeder? This new set is great - I love the idea of whitesnakes poppin' out of moisture vaporators. Obviously, this is a brilliant set and I can see from the posts around here today that most of us are very pleased that at last they have managed to include exploding snakes into the play features of a set. On the front of the box it appears that the rock area might provide space for the snake to hide. On the back, the Resistance/Rebel pilot is shooting at the snake. -

It's not crazy to want that, although for the price it will surely end up being, I'm sure many folks would expect a smattering of playset scenes with it. And I'm really starting to get the feeling that Han Solo (formerly known as the Untitled Han Solo film) will take us back to Cloud City.... making the case for a new CC set release next year much stronger. Don't see much difference in the new Phasma fig. They say the mouth lines are thinner and the eyes are shorter... I am happy to stick with TFA's Phasma. -
2018 is the same year as the Untitled Han Solo film. It's been widely publicized as a Han Solo backstory film and Ron Howard showed us an image of Donald Glover as Lando in the Falcon, are you suggesting that the long drought of Bespin themed system scale playsets (and cloud cars) is because Lego was holding out for Cloud City to be featured as a location in the Untitled Han Solo film?? "A mining colony?" "Yeah, a tibanna gas mine. Lando conned somebody out of it." ―Leia Organa and Han Solo Han knows that Lando took administrative control of Cloud City prior to the events of Empire Strikes Back. Perhaps this occurred some years before ESB and Han was there to witness it. Can you imagine if we get a Lady Luck Lego set out of this, too? *dies* "What have you done to my ship?" "Your ship? Hey, remember, you lost her to me fair and square." ―Lando Calrissian and Han Solo, regarding the Millennium Falcon

Thought I'd share with you guys some of my Rebels Imperials today. This board could always use a bit more Rebels love. First, we have Commandant Cumberlayne Aresko and Taskmaster Myles Grint. I think Grint's face may be from a Lone Ranger set. In the middle, a stand in for the Seventh Sister until TLG decides to finish up the Inquisitor collection. Close enough for now. A pointy helmet from Castle series might do better - if only for that little nub that comes down between the eyes. On the right, Admiral Kassius Konstantine (I know - wrong rank!) and Governor Arihnda Pryce - luckily she wears the exact same rank as Tarkin, and the hair is an easy enough find. Her head was a stand-in generic rebel face but I think it matches her well enough, given the character has such a masculine face. Any ideas for a custom Eighth Brother and Minister Maketh Tua? Stumped on how to approach those.

LEGO Star Wars 2017 Pictures and Rumors

My bad, you are right. http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Millennium_Falcon Which means that this is fake news!! Wow, maybe those two are closer to scale than I thought. Well I take back my disagreement with ds760, then. I'm displaying a 4504 Falcon (2005) and a Slave 1 6209-1 (2006) together and I've always thought they were in great scale with each other... ... EDIT: closely checking out the cockpits of both ships in that picture - the minifig scale makes a lot more sense now. -

Agree to disagree on the scaling match of the two. Slave 1 is 21.5m in length, the Falcon is 26.7m - from the image in Duke_da_Nuke--3D's link. In Star Wars Battlefront... the two ships appear to be scaled appropriately. Those two ships in the display case and the blue lighting that like looks totally fantastic!!! But the Slave-1 should be twice as large, I think, to reach the approximate relative scale. -
This is a great scale for this very under-represented (as an official Lego kit) ship. Nicely done!

There seems to be a general overestimation in here that the disposable income, even for AFOLs, is capable of absorbing a thousand dollar price tag shock. These Falcons are going to be on the shelves for years, folks. Take your time. -

It's music to my eye holes, what a gorgeous build!! How much does it weigh to hold that thing?? It's gonna take all weekend to look at this thing. Man!! Mah porgs! Mah mynocks!! OMFG, doodes. I don't know what's making me laugh harder... those porgs or the price of that Falcon! "Mah porgs!! I must have mah porgs! Porgs #1. Et cetera..." It borders on criminal negligence that there are only two porgs. Should we begin to petition TLG now for an all porg playset?? I want a hillside of twenty porgs on Ahch-to at Lego's earliest convenience. This must happen. -

SW: TLJ set reviews taken down from YouTube
darththeling replied to Arigomi's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Jangbricks addresses the reason why in his recent video explaining the situation. He can't call Disney's bluff without losing his entire channel, even though he is sure the 3rd party claim isn't legit (I agree). The stakes are just too high for someone like him who has put a lot of resources into his channel and YouTube will capitulate with a copyright takedown automatically. "Buddy Smith" who does reviews on the side and racks up a few hundred views each time isn't losing anything if The Mouse destroys his channel. That's what the stakes are for Jang. -

Y'know I'm no legal expert by any means but usually a strong reaction like this (Jangbricks in this case) is in response to a complaint by someone to the IP holder. Once that happens, IP holders are obligated to protect their IP. Just one poster's speculation but it will interesting to see what happens to the rest of the online reviews (and there are many now) of the TLJ Lego in the next few days. If no one's made a claim... they should remain in place no problem. This article claims TIE Strikers and Krennic's Shuttle is soon to retire, although I guess technically those are 2016 sets. https://bricksareawesome.com/2017/08/28/lego-retiring-star-wars-rogue-one-sets-2018/ -

I wonder if Cloud City is the correct guess? By now it's a running joke wondering when Lego System scale returns to Bespin/delivers an actual great playset. The years have turned to decades (and yes, I am not including 2015's nice but-too-small carbon freezing chamber!) But with the Han Solo film coming up quickly, it may be time to get excited, because there's a great chance that by exploring Han/Lando's past, they will take us back to Cloud City. For anyone saving $$$ for the UCS Falcon re-release, get ready to add a second (or third) job to your waking hours. -

They all look fine, and are a little drab color-wise, although looking back on the first wave of TFA sets in 2015 they were drained of color, too. Mostly light grey all around. Starting to get worried that they are messing up the location of Snoke's throne, though. Snoke's command room should not be on a regular Resurgent class destroyer. I think including Snoke in 75190 might be TLG's way of saying, "this is the largest FO ship were are ever making, so get your wallets out now." It's the one ship I'm most excited about, though. TLG can't produce enough system scale capital ships for my liking.
