  1. Am I wrong in thinking that some of those small cargo holds on the top side (extra weapons, etc) on the Ghost look like they could be modified deep enough to place a few minifigures? Great looking sets and figures. Thanks for the terrific review and photos. When it rains cash... Also regarding the Phantom: what are those drop-down panels on the sides, does this ship have souped-up jammers or a cloak* or what? (* I know, no ship that small has a cloaking device.)
  2. Waitamainute... they are doing McQuarrie designs in both Episode VII and Rebels?? Um.... ... okay. I guess it's all the same universe anyway. Can't wait to see more of the Rebels Visual Dictionary so we can see all these new ships we are getting!
  3. What is up with the white spaces in that new angle? Shouldn't this hulk be completely solid? There appear to be three palettes: one with tools for the repair droid, one with weapons and a place for a droid to stand (and hang his head in shame!) The back part must have a removable roof. Otherwise, with a 5 studs-height clearance you couldn't place any figures inside with ease. Doesn't the previous MTT model split into two halves that swing open? I thought it did but I can't find an image of the inside. That's what I was hoping for in this one, because sometimes investing in a larger kit like this means you get a ship and a playset which is value. This one doesn't look to have a playset feature to it, just little compartments. Size wise, I think it's fine, I don't want it towering too high over my l'il 7155 AAT... they are meant to be displayed together, after all. Truly, the MTT 7662 is a beautiful kit... but shelf wise and wallet wise I'm going with this new one. But the two columns of battle droids 7662 deploys is so striking. Some genius modder will figure out a way to rig this new one to carry two columns of droids I'm sure.
  4. Bizarre that uncle Owen would be smiling... I don't mind the chiseled cheek bones on Luke that everyone is complaining about, but the smiling, happy-go-lucky uncle Owen makes no sense. He was gruff and irritable in every scene in A New Hope. It's a theme common among all of the licensed figures maybe. I recall thinking the same thing when I got Marvel's Natasha Romanoff for the first time, wondering why a savvy, no nonsense spy would be printed with a stupid goofy grin. Anyway, this set is a must buy for sure. Will have to sell some droids for scrap, first.
  5. Once I saw the engine assembly of the new ISD, I restructured and rebuilt mine from 6211 to look more like it, screen accurate. I was happy with the results and I'll post them once a review thread is up. So yeah, although the new ISD looks great, I don't like that it's smaller. The 6211 is a great scale with the rest of the System scale starfighters. I've done a lot of work on good old 6211 over the years to make it more sturdy, reinforcing the bottom with another layer of baseplates and strengthening the back wall with the engines, so that the heavy upper section can be supported by sitting on it. From what we've seen so far from the interiors, looks like they've engineered this one to be a lot more swooshable. Props to sdoffers' ISD friend for the snaps.
  6. Posted last night on the Star Wars Insider Facebook page, via Star Wars Rebels: The post has since been deleted. I'm guessing this qualifies as somewhat of a rumor(?) but from what I can guess, our hopes of seeing Cloud City in TLG form for the first time in over 10 years anytime soonish just went from "long overdue" / "not expected" to "very possibly more expected." Or something. There's little doubt introducing Lando 5 years before ANH may affect Rebels in that: Storylines may take place on Cloud City Storylines possibly involving Lando gaining Cloud City Storylines possibly involving Lando piloting the Falcon In any case, whether a one-off story or running theme (if this Lando business is true) then we are to be graced with Bespin Lego in the future for sure. Although the posting mentions Cloud City without committing to the idea of having a story there, I think it only must make sense. Is it known how long Lando was the administrator baron of Cloud City? In Episode V we learn that the operation is small and the empire hadn't taken notice of them yet.... meaning it was a safe haven for Rebels then? Wasn't Billy Dee recently quoted as saying he hasn't heard from anyone about appearing in Episode VII, making it seems as though they had overlooked him? I wonder now if he wasn't being coy, knowing he would feature in Rebels instead.
  7. Tell me about it. 10% off is laughable (I really did laugh out loud)... well I wasn't planning on dropping much dough on getting Revan, certainly I can live without him. ToyRUs had the better deal so they got what little of my money I was willing to part with. Fritzy's right about the embarrasing part, I guarantee ToysRUs Canada did better than Shop@home last weekend. I went Sunday and the Lego shelf was 50% empty.
  8. It's not impossible for scenes or storylines in Episode VII to feature Cloud City... a distant possibility. Much like Rebels may introduce the Rebel base on Dantooine. There is much to come. Still... it does seem like taunting us for TLG to be using that poster image if they have no intention of redoing Cloud City in our lifetimes.
  9. Oh marshall, really solid props to this exciting new approach to Cloud City. Awesome planning and execution. I've been admiring this thread for days since you posted it, unable until now to form my own response to the awesomeness. For right now, the only thing I can truly think to say is that in the immortal words of the 1990s hip hop group Salt-n-Pepa, your Cloud City makes me wanna shoop!
  10. legozebra, I also vote not to ask for it back. Nothing good will come of it. Although horribly overpriced and highly prized, if you just want Cloud City to play/display, try rebuilding it from spare parts. If you still have some of them, it's a great start. Minus the huge landing platforms I built Cloud City 10123 last year out of spare parts and it was a very rewarding experience to use the official instructions and change bits here and there. It's not that many pieces, so Bricklink if you can! If you just want to resell it for value, those figures you mentioned may still have great value. Look them up on eBay to get some ideas.
  11. I don't get it. I thought Lego did a reasonably good job of tamper-proofing the packs with that tape. I guess we all should be vigilante and check the boxes carefully before checkout to ensure no funny business. I would be raving angry if this happened to me. There must be some clues to indicate if hot glue was used. The bicycle headlight too... what a rotten day! Sorry to hear it.
  12. I've studied the Ghost's close ups very carefully. There are a few play spaces on the ship, a couple of small forward-facing (what appears to be) cargo bays and there is an awesome little play space in upper rear when the Phantom isn't docked. I haven't seen any video but I've tried to scrutinize the box art closely.... especially the back views show all the moving bits and play features. So no big bays but some areas to tuck things away I'm guessing. If it's meant to be a smuggling freighter it will need some cargo areas.
  13. I was trying to figure out the background for the Revan polybag - looks like the Ray Shields scene on board the Invisible Hand at the beginning of Revenge of the Sith. Specifically - an empty frame before R2 comes crashing into the wall? Anakin: "See? No problem." Some had suggested that the image of this polybag was a fake - I don't know if it is or isn't but I think it's interesting they would use that particular background for said packaging. Can anyone else confirm that background image as from the scene I mentioned?
  14. The Falcon makes sense, this year it doesn't. It makes much more sense next year when episode VII is released.
  15. I think maybe some posters here are in denial of the TCW cancelation affecting future Lego releases. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but... it is highly unlikely that we will ever see TCW content in Lego form again. Why no more TCW Lego? > The Disney acquisition of last year. What difference does that make? > Disney wants to push the OT and the upcoming sequel films. Can you prove this? > No, but they did immediately cancel The Clone Wars and announce a sequel trilogy and suggest a film more spin off films once having purchased Star Wars - none of which are supposed to feature any TCW era characters in any fashion. We can reasonably deduce that Disney aimed to capitalize on both hardcore fans (who love Star Wars no matter what form it takes) as well as those who didn't enjoy the prequel trilogy by continuing the saga. [shrug] for all we know, TCW may have continued into season 6 but the Lego line may have stopped at season 5 regardless. The Jedi Temple... there's a chance it (or something similar) could figure into the new films.
  16. Maybe there is a small-ish Lars homestead in the works but sold completely separate. For another future wave. There would be very little to it, after all. A small dome with an arched doorway... maybe a kitchenette with blue milk. Owen/Beru and 2 Stormtroopers. "Hey kids - re-enact the most grisly scene in all of the PG original trilogy!" - Tagline for the Lego Lars homestead.
  17. It could be a lingering part of this infamy the set was receiving at this time last year: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2302312/Muslim-victory-fight-anti-Islamic-lego-Denmark-axes-Jabbas-Palace-toy.html#comments Which was promptly denied by TLG: http://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/2013/04/04/lego-jabbas-palace-muslim-turkish-austria-racism-star-wars_n_3012827.html But we all know these kits sit on shelves for around two years or so, and then are gone. So maybe it was all a misunderstanding, TLG saying that it would only be on the shelves for a short time. True "from a certain point of view." I bet it'll be on shelves well into this summer, if you're saving up or waiting for a sale.
  18. You know I actually liked the new guns, not as replacements outright but a few here and there as heavy weapons, rocket launchers, etc is a nice variety. However, my problem with them is that the projectile is so small it bounces away and gets lost very easily. So I put them in a box and keep it under guard in the Star Destroyer as the Empire's experimental weapons. Planet Series 4: Never sighted in Canada (at least where I am) and I have the feeling despite what Lego said, they will never be released here. :/
  19. The UCS Falcon re-release sounds dubious. Not that I don't want to see it happen (it would be awesome) but TLG has shown their favoritism for releasing the same few sets every 2-3 years. X Wings, Y Wings, Falcons, etc. Agreed on the points that Episode 7 will renew interest in the vehicle, however the original trilogy never really goes out of style. It's the core of the franchise. Has there been a single winter or summer wave in history that ignored the OT outright? This is true of the current wave hitting stores in which the Death Star battlepack keeps the torch burning for the OT.... and sticking out in the sea of episode 3 rehashes. I now the reason why, but it speaks volumes from TLG that they include something, anything from the OT for each wave. Maybe we'll have our cake and eat it too: a re-issue of the UCS Falcon and then a (comparatively) more affordable System scale Falcon somewhere in 2015.
  20. Ingenious. Minifig-scale interior bits and large enough to dwarf system scale starfighters. I'd buy it. Hats off to your work, L-DI-EGO. I've tried to build one of these several times and I always end up junking them.
  21. Or maybe even on the J-type Nubian cruiser where she really, really belongs? ;) Hey, I'm still thrilled we got that perfect Queen Amidala. And I do believe that the Sandcrawler set will feature the Lars homestead and some Stormtroopers. Why? Because TLG never fails to make an "action" or "attack" from every one of their kits. It will be impossible to avoid doing the same with this big set. By itself, the only attack the Sandcrawler implies is the capture of the droids by Jawas. As for the Tusken raiders, sure they could be included but I'd prefer a small battlepack because it would be amazing to have an army of Tuskens!
  22. The in-focus images of the back of the boxes are very revealing in all the little details of the larger sets. For example, we can see that in The Ghost there appear to be two cargo hatches/rooms on the front on either side of the cockpit that the Twi'lek sits in. Probably not room for a minifig but certainly enough to smuggle something... this is a freighter after all! Plus, when The Phantom is not docked, there is a sweet little docking area that could fit some figures to stand (although the space is not enclosed) and two swing doors that lead to the top gun turret where Jeb sits. It's difficult to describe... but it looks like an empty cargo bay with a circular logo on the floor. Jeb's gun turret slides upward for easy access to place/remove Jeb. As for The Phantom, it appears that Chopper sits in the back piece which itself separates from the cockpit. This may be common knowledge from what has already been revealed about the show, but I believe that The Phantom may carry experimental weaponry... hence it needs to separate from The Ghost to attack? Take a peek at the folded up version of the Mos Eisley cantina as well... very cool. The only disappointing thing I can see is that the ISD has relocated the bridge to the lower level, eliminating the shuttlebay! I loved the shuttlebay from the older set 6211 and I wouldn't live without one. Even the little bridge is adorable. Anyway, this new version - it certainly looks more sturdy/swooshable so that's good.
  23. The Jedi Scout Fighter 75051 is completely new to me, haven't seen pics of it, heard the name, etc. I assume it's from SW: Rebels? Not a must buy but I do like it. Outstanding to see some new stuff from the fair. I'm sure there are more details to soak in. There will be a lot of incentive to get more than one 75052 Cantina, I think. It seems obvious to buy two and make an enclosed-space version... with a few spare bits it could really rock. And you'd have a full Bith band with a spare. These pics (thanks for the link) confirm my suspicions that TLG may have nailed this one! The Cantina will be the set to get for me this summer. The Rebels stuff can wait. Hey, look at the pictures of that Jedi Scout Fighter... in some you can see the beauty of the exterior/facade of the rear of the Cantina. The details are spectacular! We have got to see views of the reserve side of this kit.
  24. I would have expected a few more to be announced as well: Mustafar and especially Yavin Prime which I think was so much more recognizable than Yavin 4. They should have been more ambitious and sold an entire galaxy all at once; just the planets and connections or spacelanes. I feel the planets were mishandled as a sub theme - the only way they could have succeeded would have been a giant set. Like maybe a board game or something, Lego even has a board game toy line for Jeebers Beibers. All 12 planets on a table together would look awesome. Has anyone seen an image of this? I'm certainly not confident enough in my painting abilities to try and make a custom planet by painting it, but I guess Lego has the mold now, and it can appear in newer sets. Does the new Mos Eisley Cantina have a dome?
  25. I've been thinking hard about these new sets and the price points... maybe there are more observant fans on this thread that can school me... is this latest wave indicative of some sort sort of price-shifting going on, namely the lack of higher price point sets as well? Every wave we generally get a couple of $10 sets, then a $20 or two and so on... culminating in an $80 set, a $100 set and maybe it'll go as high as $150. Recently, Jabba's Palace, Grevious' ship the Manevolence, etc. There were plenty of big kits in 2013. I'm still looking for funding for a number of them! There's no way I can get the new Gunship, AT-TE and Sail Barge unless I knock over a bank first. This 2014 winter wave... well, there's no real high price point kits at all. This may also be part of TLG's "brilliance" at doing microfighters. As an adult fan I agree with the anti-microfighter sentiment, however I do have a fairly decent Lego allowance each month... generally kids do not. Yes, you can get Han Solo in a cheap $20 set but the Falcon? No, families with lower disposable income and kids with a little allowance to spend are going to eat these kits whole. There is a considerable spending power being offered to younger kids with this kind of wave. I still think it's a win-win for adult collectors and kids. They get kits within their budget... we get a chance to build more armies. EDIT: That new red canopy piece for the gunship is beautiful.
