[OL - A-MCRA] Travels to Terraversa
Corweena replied to Captain Genaro's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Excellent builds, and continuation of the story. Thinks are getting exciting (heated)! And should the Terraversans have need of a gallows, the Black Wolf Company would gladly ship them their once used setup -

Definitely an inspiring thread! I've begun work on small vignettes to showcase the soldiers of my own Black Wolf Company, as it expands and grows. Thanks again! -

[SR-FB] A Short Drop and a Sudden Stop
Corweena replied to Corweena's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Yeah, this is unfortunately all of my tan plates, as I don't have much in that color. I had considered switching to green, but ended up keeping it, as the gallows were the focus of the scene. Thank you though! Thanks! I had considered giving the Fox a more recognizable uniform, but not sure if I want to start a war......yet For the final design in the build, the lever does not work. I did build a working version, but it was a lot bulkier on the bottom of the platform, and kind of took away from looks of the gallows as a whole. So I decided to use this super simple version, which let me use the trap door piece, but is only 4 plates thick near the lever, and 2 plates elsewhere. The trap door holds itself up with the brown tiles attached on top. The extra layer on top is just enough to prevent the door from clearing the frame. Then all I have to do is press down on the door slightly for it to fall open. Overall, I felt the end result looked much better and "cleaner" than a fully working version for the purposes of the build. -
Well then.....maybe I will have to adjust course.

[SR-FB] A Short Drop and a Sudden Stop
Corweena replied to Corweena's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Thanks! That's the way it goes sometimes.....when there is no one in power, people perceive it as weakness. Just have to make a statement for any one plotting any further Mischief in the town. Thank you! I based the gallows on a variety or designs I've seen, and adapted them to fit minifigures better. Yeah, my family had that movie on recently, and that one inspired me to build this scene. Thanks! The trapdoor took a few version to get right, but I ended up using the Lego one, and it still functions great even with brown tiles on top. -
Presiding over an execution was not how Corwin Ragnarsson envisioned spending his first day as Mayor of New Nassau. But the events of the previous night required a swift action to be made, to reassure the citizens of New Nassau of their safety, and maintain order in the streets. A man had been caught breaking into the fort in the town, and on his person were found documents detailing the military strength and layout of the town, along with observations on possible weak points in the defenses. During aggressive "questioning", the man would give nothing but his alias "the fox". He would not divulge his employer or any other details about himself. Ragnarsson was summoned, along with a tribunal, and with the accused spy offering no legitimate defense to his name, he was convicted of being a foreign intelligence agent, and summarily sentenced to death, by hanging. As he walked up the the gallows, the grim realization of what was about to take place come over "the Fox". He tried to speak to his captors, but was met with stoic silence. His fate had been decided and sealed that morning. Nothing could be done now. As the realization crept in, he began crying and balling unintelligable things. Once on the gallows, with the noose placed around the spy's neck, the head executioner, a stern man dressed in a black robes and cloak, faced the crowd and addressed them. "Citizens of New Nassau! Before you today we have a weasel of a man, found guilty of espionage, committed to do harm to YOU and your families. The safety of this town, island, and its people is of the utmost importance to the government. Let today serve as a warning to any others who wish to commit any act harmful to this city or its residents. This settlement was started with the ideology that men could live free of tyranny and corrupt imperialist governments. Any actions that hinder this goal will be met with swift and hard justice, regardless of your flag or affiliation." With this words said, the crowd previously being quiet erupted with shouts of "down with the imperialists!" "for the free people of Terra Nova!" "death to the spy!" With that, the Executioner stepped back to the lever which operated the gallows. "Any last words?" He offered the man, who mumbled something incoherent, before sinking into silence. The next sound heard was of the lever being pulled, and the trap door on the gallows swinging down, followed by a gasp from the man, as the air was squeezed out of is writhing and twitching body. It took only a short time for him to completely still, and the executioner pronounced him dead. "Leave him up until sundown, then feed him to the crows" The crowd fell to silence, and slowly dispersed. Ragnarsson remarked to his companion "I don't particularly care for these sort of things, but in this case, it was an absolute necessity. I'd much rather meet a man face to face in battle, than to watch him die in a way such as this. But these are the times we are in, and the safety of our small settlement is of primary importance now. Lets hope today discourages any more agents of ill-will from preying on New Nassau." A few more photos of the scene:

A lovely Microbuild indeed! And there is no such thing as too many rum carts

A proper process build, great job showing all the steps needed to make saltpeter, as well as an in depth explanation of the chemistry behind the process.

[ESL] The Execution of Zublius von Wreck
Corweena replied to Umbra-Manis's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Hearing the report of the execution of Zublius von Wreck, Corwin Ragnarsson paused in his reading, and muttered to himself "A true scoundrel if there ever was one. He lived his life fast, loose, and dangerous. May the Eternal Wind fill your sails in the next life." He then picked up his bottle of brandy, and poured some out in remembrance of ZvW (but not all of it it, that would be a waste ). Love the scene, and that is quite a unique style of gallows you have constructed. Seems like it would be a bit slower death than a traditional hanging.... -
Settlement: New Nassau, Blonde Beach, Sea Rats
Corweena replied to Roadmonkeytj's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Announcement! Since its founding last year, New Nassau has been under the stewardship of @Roadmonkeytj until a suitable mayor could be found. Beginning his mission to build up New Nassau to a bustling and protected stronghold for the Sea Rats, Corwin Ragnarrson of the Black Wolf Company has been appointed mayor of New Nassau on this day, 16 July 620AE. His commitment to the peoples of Isla de Barro extends to the natives of the island as well, with whom the Sea Rats share a peaceful and prosperous existence. All relevant information regarding updates to the stats, properties, and trade value of New Nassau will be in the THIRD post on this thread. Please continue to link any EGS properties or Freebuilds related to New Nassau, so I can update the information as needed. Thanks! -
It would appear maybe they have been a bit too busy catering to the whims and fantasies of their red-clad masters friends?

A Tale of Revenge - Part 2: Heretic!
Corweena replied to Corweena's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Like Keymonus said (and which I mentioned in Part 1), this did occur 20+ years ago, under a King obsessed with the Occult. So its not so far fetched, considering it is historical fact of how much power the Order had under the monarch at the time. And to give credit, the current King is a much more fair and moral ruler. I doubt these things would have occurred with the frequency they used to, in current times. And yes, planks should be coming in future builds. slowly adding to my collection with every bricklink order. We will see.....but I do suspect something is afoot. Exactly what I going for....I read all the background and history threads, and based on the information on the previous King Stephan and his obsession with the occult, I found it was reasonable that something this terrible could have happened under his rule. I'm working on my brown tile collection....every Bricklink order i'm adding on and buying up all that available shades of brown tiles....pretty soon I should have enough to make a decent size floor. Most of my Brick collection is pre-2005, so I lack a lot of the pieces used to make some of the more realistic bits. Slowly expanding my collection with bricklink orders though, for the parts I find I want. That seems to be case -
A Tale of Revenge: Part 1: The Day the World Stood Still Part 2: Heretic! <--- You are here Part 3: Baptism of Fire Part 4: Casting a Wide Net Part 5: Ghosts of Days Past Part 6: A Blood Soaked Symphony _______________________________________________________________________________ "Hear ye, the honorable Magistrate Dumond presiding over the court" loudly stated the clerk, as the town magistrate Charles Dumond slowly walked up to his bench. The small courtroom was filled with only necessary people....the judge, clerk, three soldiers, two clerics of the Order, along with a shackled Ragnar and his family. "Concerning the charges of kidnapping brought against you" said Dumond, looking at Ragnar, "based on the testimony provided by your wife, as well as other statements, the court sees no evidence of foul play, and hereby drops the charges against you". Hearing this, Patricia heaved an audible sigh of relief. Gerard Bertrand gave the magistrate a menacing scowl, to which Dumond continued....."however, concerning the charges of paganism and heresy against the Order, Cleric Bertrand has jurisdiction, and full authority under Royal decree. Cleric Bertrand walked to the front of the courtroom, turned and faced everyone, "based on the testimony given, and from the sworn statements of upstanding citizens of Oleon, I Gerard Bertrand, a faithful servant of the Order, do hereby find you Ragnar Halfdan, guilty of worshiping false gods, along with sharing your poisonous beliefs to others." "Furthermore" As he said this, a malicious sneer came across his face, and he raised an envelope in his hand. "....based on your wife Patricia's testimony, The Order charges and finds her guilty of heresy as well. You have been found to be practicing pagan religion, and of forsaking the Order." As he said this, Ragnar uttered a cry, and attempted to leap over the rail to get to Bertrand "I'll kill you! You hear me?!?!?! You're a dead man!" The other Cleric and a soldier moved to restrain Ragnar against the wall. The other soldier held back young Corwin, as the Sergeant pulled another set of shackles, and placed them on Patricia. Bertrand continued almost visibly smiling, "having been found guilty of these crimes, The Order of the Faith hereby sentences both of you to death, to be carried out by Baptism of Fire. Your execution will come in two days time. Your child, as he is still a young boy, will become a ward of the Order, and lend his life in service as penance for your crimes." Having finished the sentencing, Bertrand and the Soldier exited the courtroom, with the prisoners in tow. As he was being forced from the courtroom, Ragnar turned to Corwin and said "remember all that I have taught you son....be brave. You are stronger than you know.....and your mother and I will be with you always." As everyone left, the Magistrate stood up, and muttered to himself "the damned Order has no integrity. I remember the days when they actually stood for something, now they just endlessly pursue this witch hunt.....that poor boy, he is going to lose his family because of this. I wish I had the power to do something....but with Order's actions supported by the King himself, my hands are tied...." This concludes Part 2 of the series. Stay on the lookout for the next chapter, dropping soon!

Beautiful. I'd love to see more detail photos of the bridge and landscape from different angles. And Terraversa seems to be moving closer and closer to outright revolt. Which I can speak for every Sea Rat in hoping it happens!

The "why did they not put this out earlier?"
Corweena replied to Captain Braunsfeld's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Hmmmm.....maybe if I do a mod of the the set, I'll call it the "They Should Have Put This Out Earlier" Coloration of the set looks great, its a nice neutral color and different from most ship liveries. -

A Tale of Revenge - Part 1: The Day the World Stood Still
Corweena replied to Corweena's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Thank you! Thanks. Hoping to make a nice series out of it. Still unsure how long it will be, but hoping at least 6-8 parts. ....unless you wanted the picnic for yourselves? Yeah, I didn't want to use the Obi-wan head....so Luke it is. You might see some other familiar faces in the future too.... -
Agreed that the junk is fantastic (as are all your ships). Nice use of creating a hull portion of the Oleonaise ship to serve as the background to activity on the junk.

This build marks the start of a multi-part story, which will dive into the past of Corwin Ragnarsson, and uncover some of his motivations for his arrival in Terra Nova. A Tale of Revenge: Part 1: The Day the World Stood Still <--- You are here Part 2: Heretic! Part 3: Baptism of Fire Part 4: Casting a Wide Net Part 5: Ghosts of Days Past Part 6: A Blood Soaked Symphony _______________________________________________________________________________ Not much is known about the history and origin of Corwin Ragnarrson, other than this. His father, Ragnar, was a Vikendi trader of the Amarok clan from the great white North, who made his way across the continent to trade with the peoples of Halos. On one such trip into Oleon, he met Patricia, the daughter of a prominent Naval Captain. Their friendship soon grew to love, yet societal constraints meant they could never be together. So they devised a plan to elope, were married in secret, and escaped into the countryside away from prying eyes and anyone that would know Patricia or her family. A year later, they welcomed a son into the world, who they named Corwin. They lived a modest life in the country, and were happy. During the reign of King Stéphan II, the Order of the Faith enjoyed great power and influence in Oleon. While most clerics enjoyed the wealth and respect the Order offered them during this time, the more fanatical among them found power by a different means....fear. They traveled the country, seeking out those suspected of sorcery, witchcraft, paganism, and another other grievance they could justify. More often than not, the accused were given a sham trial, and when found guilty were summarily executed. Among these fanatics was Gerard Bertrand, a cold evil man, who found pleasure in his work or finding and executing those who would not submit to the Order. Year 599AE, Somewhere in the countryside of Oleon It is a beautiful summer day in Oleon. The family has traveled to the local lake to spend the day together. Ragnar and Patricia stand together watching young Corwin frolic in the water, catching frogs. While he plays, they lay out a blanket, and enjoy a meal on the shore. Suddenly, out of the brush step a group of men, heading directly for the family. Leading the group are two men in robes, showing them as clerics of the Order of the Faith. Following behind are three soldiers. Patricia, seeing the group first, turns pale, and stammers "o-o-oh no" Ragnar stands up, and turning to the group of men, sternly states "what is the meaning of this? Who are you, and why have you come here?" The cleric leading the group, a sneer on his face, says to Ragnar "you are Ragnar the foreigner are you not?", to which Ragnar replies "I am Ragnar Halfdan, of the Amarok Tribe from the land of Vikendia." The cleric turns to the Sergeant, who says "Ragnar Halfdan, you are wanted for the kidnapping of a citizen of Oleon" Shocked, Patricia looks at the Sergeant "if it is me he kidnapped, I assure you tha-" "Furthermore..." cut in the cleric "I Gerard Bertrand, as a sworn servant of the Order, and protector of the Faith, do hereby accuse you of paganism, for worshiping your false gods, and for attempting to force your beliefs on citizens of the empire. You are hereby under arrest, and will be tried for these crimes" The Sergeant pulled out a pair of shackles, and looking at Ragnar said "for the sake of the woman and the boy, make this easy". Ragnar looked at his family, and held out his hands for the irons. The Sergeant turned to the other soldiers, and said "grab the woman and the boy". With that, the group turned and began to make their way away from the lake, towards whatever unknown events that may lie ahead. Looking back, Corwin would think of this as the day his life as he knew it began to change, as the Day the World Stood Still. To be continued.....

[SR - Challenge III - Cat D] No Survivors
Corweena replied to Corweena's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Thank you! I was really happy with how it turned out. While I can see how it could be seen as an Oleonaise uniform, upon closer inspection you can find it is but a simple blue jacket over a striped red and white shirt. But, any conclusions that may be drawn concerning said uniforms cannot be helped, especially when such barbaric actions have been taken Thank you! Took me a good while to considered some sort of naval encounter that didn't involve larger ships. Thanks! And I just got in a Bricklink order with some clear studs. I was limited on time to finish the build, but now with the deadline extended to July, I may go back and retouch some parts and edit with new pictures. Any conclusions that have been arrived at concerning the uniforms are solely placed on the persons drawing the conclusions...... That being said....such rumors will not be denied Precisely what I am going for....while not Pirates per say, these men prefer the freedoms offered them by the Sea Rat faction, while still maintaining a sense of order and heirarchy. Many of them were indeed citizens of other nations, who grew tired of the laws (and tyranny) imposed by their governments. With the deadline extended, I'll probably re-shoot the scene with a few improvements in a few days. I can neither confirm nor deny that was the intention....but by all means, spread the word!
