  1. I could not find any threads here, nor pics on Google, of wooden roof trusses so I came up with this design. Many homes have exposed roof trusses, along with commercial and industrial buildings. These particular trusses go in my train engine shed used to service train engines. Although they are not needed for strength they do add a nice architectural design element to the building. Feel free to copy or comment, hope you like!
  2. Thanks everyone for the additional ideas! The addition of engine parts, rusty bits and grass on the dead end track will help finish out the look on that side for sure. Brilliant! I was in the fixture making mode and that easy and obvious solution escaped me! Thank you.
  3. Thank you for the kind words, and my original inspiration! I agree that there is always some trade offs in designing these containers, or almost anything for that matter. I doubt I'll do stickers on the containers. It's not possible to transition from angled to flat in just one brick. Instead it requires slowly putting in less and less angle until its flat, probably 4-5-6 bricks, so the texture gradually washes out and probably wouldn't look good. I am considering some stickers for the cars if you are willing to print some for me. I'll send you a message. No rush, I'm on holiday too!
  4. Be sure to add her face! Check out JKBrickworks on YouTube for a how to.
  5. Gentlemen, thank you for the ideas. I've added a pseudo-inspection pit, several hanging light fixtures (not pictured) and a TON of additional interior details. Work benches, shelves, a sink, a desk, a compressor, welding stuff, tools, etc, etc. Basically everything along the outside walls has just been added. I'm attaching pics below and have updated my .lxf on Bricksafe. I welcome anyone to borrow, copy, modify any of it for their own use. I had lots of fun creating the interior details, many of which I took inspiration from other designs I found online. If you're the original creator of one of them, thanks! I welcome any additional suggestions you may have... Edit to add: I really found it fun and challenging to place some pieces where LDD didn't want them to go. For example the 3L bars in the wooden crate, I needed to create a fixture to hold the bars in place, move the crate in place then delete the fixture and save them as a group. Even placing the red dolly required a simple fixture because it has no studs on bottom and cannot be placed on anything within LDD. Weird...
  6. This was posted in another thread. Hispabrick Magazine has a video on their FB page showing the pairing process. Looks like we can pair one controller to at least 2, possibly 4 different receivers. https://m.facebook.com/hispabrickmagazine/videos/?ref=page_internal&mt_nav=1
  7. Awesome! Looks like we can control at least 4 different motors from on PU controller. This is great news!
  8. Thank you. They build very easily. Once you get the first one at the angle you want all the rest just line up and fall into place. They went together faster and easier than if I'd tried to make them straight!
  9. Yes, let's hope he replies.
  10. You're very welcome. I'm undecided on stickers. @zephyr1934 does offer them for sale. I did consider that brick, not enough color selection and ultimately not as good looking as the 1x1x5. I did my own tanker MOC you might be interested in.
  11. Thanks for the compliment! Feel free to use or modify my design. Parts for the cars and containers ran $140 plus shipping from 5 sellers, three U.S. two international. The three cars can be made for about $65 by themselves. Shipping containers are expensive to make!
  12. Here's a quick video, they navigate curves and switches quite well. And here's some pics that served as inspiration for this build. I also want to give a shout out to @zephyr1934 for his great well car thread from which I took some inspiration also.
  13. Thanks! No doors, not a fan, too difficult to implement. Plus TLG moved away from doors on their newest trains so I figure I can too! Thank you. Unsure, I literally finished just minutes before my initial post. 20 minutes of additional play last night revealed no problems though. I suspect they will hold up just fine. Edit to add: your question intrigued my so I just took this pic. You can see the sides grip the ends very well. Those containers are heavy and the two stacked together act like a lever trying to pry the sides apart but the still stay in place!
  14. This ones been a long time coming. I started the design months ago and while the well cars themselves came together quickly I really struggled with the shipping containers. A flight of three well cars typically carry 53 foot containers while 40 footers are carried on a flight of five wellcars. However since I didn't want cars that long nor containers that long my three cars carry my version of the 40 footers. The spacing between the cars is just enough to allow them to navigate standard R40 curve track without binding. A nice feature about the cars is the base can be adjusted up or down 4 studs. I can lower them for layouts with clearance restrictions or maybe raise them up if I run a single container and don't want it to look too buried in the wellcar. In the pictures below you can see what I mean, I have the base set to second from bottom, it could got up two or down one stud from it's current position. My containers are 24 studs long, 6 studs wide and 6 bricks high. I felt those measurements gave good proportions without being to long. My real challenge with them was what to make the sides from. I considered the 1x2 brick with grove prevalent in the Maserk containers but they are hard to find or expensive or not available in enough colors. I really wanted something to simulate the texture of a shipping container and finally found the 1x1x5 brick. I gave each one a slight turn and voila, instant texture that very closely simulates a real container. The fractional added length and width caused by rotating the bricks make them a snug fit in the wellcars but they do fit fine. Here's some pics and my .lxf file is linked below for anyone who wants to copy, modify or build their own. Hope you like! https://bricksafe.com/pages/sed6/well-car
  15. Try Kragle! JK. I recently put some pieces in boiling water, left them in too long and they are ruined. I suspect the same for your bricks. Lesson learned but at least it wasn't a $300 dollar set. If you want to try to save them you can use a fine tip flat screwdriver to slightly deform the bumps on top. The displaced material will increase their holding power.
  16. All lego trains fly off the track at full speed, nothing new there (it's a feature not a flaw). Three suggestions; longer (heavier) trains, half drained batteries (or a dummy battery) or...adult supervision.
  17. Can we control to separate trains with a single controller?
  18. Thanks for the compliment, and for the excellent ideas!
  19. That's the one, thanks!
  20. Great idea! Does the S-brick do this already?
  21. Thank you for the offer. Is it your design or Valerie's? I have Valerie's LDD already. Besides being too expensive, half the parts don't exist in the correct color or are uavailable in the quantities needed.
  22. Me too. And I like that! The rank wasted a large amount of space, and who cares! I also don't care about post count or badges either. If I want info I can click on their name and review their profile. Best of all the mobile device formatting isn't messed up. And by that I mean there is no longer an overlap between the header and the body covering part of the body text with the PM link. That always drove me nuts!
  23. Excellent! TLG should have done that for us!
  24. Anyone can download the app. No train needed. And you can play the train sounds, again with no train paired, neat!
  25. Thank you! I agree that a small office or storage poking off a side or corner would look good. In fact I initially had one planned. However because of the size limitations of My small layout there's not room to expand, but anyone who downloads my .lxf is welcome to mod it themselves. I'll look for other details that can be added inside and welcome any suggestions. As to the brick, the 1x2's will be quite pronounced! In fact the reason I left the brick lines visible in my pics was to highlight them. If anyone cares to click on maciej's link above, his shed appears in many of his pictures and the brick lines are very visible. Unlike other builds where we struggle to get bricks to line up or be flush with their neighbors, sloppy connections with these 1x2's will lead to even more depth and character for the bricks. Speaking of bricks, I'm struggling with what colors to build this with. In the above pics I have a 60/40 split of dark red/reddish brown. It's a good simple combo, but not as colorful as I like. I'm also considering a 60/30/10 split of dark red/reddish brown/dark tan and a 25/25/25/25 split of dark red/reddish brown/dark orange/dark tan. If anyone has pics and suggestions of other 1x2 brick patterns I'd love to see them. Edit to add: I also need some ideas for roof trusses for the interior. While its physical strong enough now, if I make it removable it will have a tendency to fold down the middle.
