LEGO Ninjago 2024 Rumours and Discussion
RichardGoring replied to THELEGOBATMAN's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
Given the set number, and the subject matter, it's likely an upcoming GWP. I don't get many Ninjago sets, and got the City Markets last week, so there's nothing left on my wish list. Slight regret, especially if they make this into a series, but it doesn't look like there is anything exclusive in there. -

Ah, that's good to know. My notices are usually only when it's much closer to me, but I'll be in the lookout. Thanks. -
Marvel Superheroes 2023 - Rumors & Discussion
RichardGoring replied to Clone OPatra's topic in LEGO Licensed
It occurred to me, having seen the X-Jet for $80, that the X-Mansion we all thought was a very basic prototype, or even a simple placeholder, may end up being the final thing, and selling for the $300 that was rumored at the time. Which is pretty sad really. -

How do you know it's not in the country yet? I suspect my orders will arrive at the same time as yours, given the conversation last week. -
Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
RichardGoring replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
It was actually the set that got me into the modular buildings. It just looked so good, and I wish they made more 50s Americana buildings. Like the car wash one above, and the Bricklink Designer Program mobile diner. To me, there are already two distinct styles of modular. American downtown style (Detectives office, Palace Cinema, Corner Garage, Jazz Club, Police Station) and then more European style (Parisian Restaurant, Brick Bank, Bookshop, Boutique Hotel). I'd be very happy if they added another couple of styles to the line. -
Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
RichardGoring replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
Surprisingly common to have an American Diner dropped in a European town. But not when the modulars are set, in my mind. But you're right. It needs something else to go with it, and it does stand out a lot for that reason. I built a version of Bricky_Bricks excellent 50s Car Wash and music shop that was on Ideas, and I think they look great together. -
Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
RichardGoring replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
Good to know, and sounds about right. It doesn't grab me as something I really want to build with any urgency, but I think it's a solid model. I also think that I miss the play features that Detectives Office and Brick Bank especially do so well. P.S. You have Downtown Diner in the wrong place, and it should be way higher Now we potentially have a two baseplate modular to look forward to with the Ideas Botanical Garden set. Very curious choice. -
LEGO Ideas Discussion
RichardGoring replied to The Real Indiana Jones's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Says it all really. I really do like the Botanical Gardens. I built @Berthil's excellent one from Rebrickable, and now have the Friends one ready to be done, so not sure I need a third. I'm sure it will be lovely, but will they do a two baseplate modular for $300+ in Ideas? And why this modular compared to others that feel more varied? The nice thing is that both models chosen are really well executed by the original designer. I appreciate that a lot. Even if they get ripped apart by LEGO, knowing the original designer has creativity and technical skill is nice. -

It's such a shame that the Bricklink Designer program can't take on licensed projects. For obvious reasons, but it's still a shame. They are, as you say, gorgeous builds. -
71046 CMF series 26: Space themed!
RichardGoring replied to Megbricks's topic in Special LEGO Themes
'Leaked' images of unreleased products are unlikely to be illegal. Any wrongdoing would depend on how they were leaked in the first place. It's unlikely in this instance, but some manufacturers do this intentionally to generate buzz. LEGO themselves are fairly notorious from releasing images through official channels seemingly accidentally. Or giving them to partner retailers, who then release them, perhaps accidentally or in ignorance. This may breach an embargo or contract, but it's likely not illegal, and contracts often have terms to deal with breaches of contract. Truly illegal would be hacking LEGO's servers, but usually leakers say their sources are from retailers. I'm not saying the latter part of that paragraph makes it morally right, but I don't think there are laws against most of it, just commercial agreements. -

@Brick Clicker recently said it would be later in the year, and that the spring rumour is false. But nothing other than 'later in the year' stated so far. -
LEGO Ideas Discussion
RichardGoring replied to The Real Indiana Jones's topic in General LEGO Discussion
There are so many nice ones, and others that are great ideas, although only a small number will be considered. Ignoring the reality of whether they will get made or not, my favourites are: 3. The Botanical Garden - would be so lovely, although the recent Friends set, and the ability to combined two together very easily makes this a little less desirable. 9. Medieval Seaside Market - would be great to add to the civilian population of castle stuff, but it might make more sense as a pirates set? 10. Brick Boulevard - it's not going to happen, but Bricky_Bricks does such interesting and varied modulars. 14. Humpback Whale - this is such a lovely style, but it would be huge and expensive to get this level of detail. 22. Claus Toys - as before with Bricky_Bricks in #10. 25. V&TRR #12 Genoa - lovely looking train, and would be great to get a varied locomotive to go with Orient Express. Is this the locomotive used in Back to the Future too? Ripe for mods that would be fun. 59. The Addams Family - not a huge fan of the model presented, but LEGO would change it anyway, and the source material could make a great set. 67. Eda's Owl House - I don't know the source material, but it's such a lovely design. 68. Wizard's Hut - Another beautifully executed design. -
Wizarding World 2023 - Rumors & Discussion
RichardGoring replied to Clone OPatra's topic in LEGO Licensed
While it's irritating for most people here, I suspect it suits the majority of buyers for these sets perfectly, who are likely children and teens who are into it for a year or three before fading, or, at the very least, when they get into it, they want to get a complete collection as quickly as possible, and LEGO won't want to disappoint them with sets locked behind the retirement barrier. I think the 2018-2020 sets are still the best and I'm pleased to have most of them. I have 76389 to use as the base for the 2018 Great Hall (through the excellent MOC on Rebrickable) and I think one other more recent set. They just didn't interest me that much, but I have no doubt they were flying off the shelves in vulgar numbers. Seeing people put all of them together into a single Hogwarts is very impressive though. Selfishly (and only semi-jokingly) I hope the next batch aren't as good as the 2018-2020 versions, so I don't feel compelled to get more of them! -
That's fabulous!

Latest news about Lego animal moulds
RichardGoring replied to Roebuck's topic in Special LEGO Themes
That's just so embarrassing. I couldn't quite believe it when I saw it in that set. True, but it doesn't stop it being frustrating to have different styles between the animals in current sets. Although I'd forgive them for leaving the frog as is, given how versatile a piece it is.- 5,914 replies

Lego Icons 10332 Medieval Town Square Discussion Thread
RichardGoring replied to BrickJagger's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
When the released Lion Knights' castle, in one of the designer interview videos, they said that they'd originally designed a whole village to go with the castle, before realizing that it was too large to be included in the set. I wonder if this is simply what they designed at the same time as the castle, released as a standalone. I hope so, as it will have the same concept of taking inspiration from older sets, but not being tied too closely to them, which is something that the more recent Majisto's Tower and Eldorado Fortress seem to suffer from. -

I did this with a Jack Sparrow figure in the Palace Cinema, as I thought the lobby was far too sparse. Would still like to add more one day, but here he is, entertaining people on costume day: -
Latest news about Lego animal moulds
RichardGoring replied to Roebuck's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Parrot, fish, and crab are all in desperate need of an update, to my mind. They are all used frequently and look poor compared to the modern design aesthetic. Scorpion is similar, but not used as frequently. The parrot, to me, is the worst, because it used to be better when it was printed, compared to the dual molded swirls today.- 5,914 replies

My Black Friday order was also back ordered, but arrived earlier this week. Interestingly, it had the 'do not put in shelves before' dickey on it, suffering it was part of the very original production. I wonder why it was backordered then?- 2,976 replies

I could imagine then selling out of the Police station first as other retailers had it in a 25% off sale recently, but only LEGO discounted Assembly Square. They may have stocked accordingly?
