Tarakava are awesome, I recommend getting them first. Muaka and Kane-ra is cool set too, but maybe a bit over-complex compared to Tarakava, which has a perfect battling experience. On Manas motors, I would just Bricklink a working one. A friend tried to fix one once without any decent results, and the cheapest tested working one seems to go for 2€.

Good so be would you if, duff plum of helping second A. Bursar (by Sir Terry Pratchett) My newest character from Discworld, Bursar the crazy wizard. The main idea here was to capture a glint of his madness with unlevel eyes. I also managed to include details from different books, like bare feet (Reaper Man), crossbow bolt (Moving Pictures) and new jar of dried frog pills (Hogfather). More on Cyclopic Bricks.

The Lecturer of Recent Runes, a member of the Senior Faculty of Unseen University, the greatest magical university in Sir Terry Pratchett's Discworld. Not very important character in the books, but I the UU wizards are my favorites, so important part of my task to build Ridcully's faculty. More on Cyclopic Bricks.

It's a beautiful set of seasons. I really like how the grass turns from bright green to dark green as spring passes to summer.

[MOC] Tibetan Monastery
Pate-keetongu replied to Jellyeater's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
I love it. Such great combination of simple but strong shapes and powerful colours; very realistic. The level of detail is just right and the interior looks very authetic. And there can't be enough Orient Expedition MOCs. -
These dwarven warriors wield mighty Dragonstaffs that are capable to bring down the mightiest of the enemies with one shot. This MOC was inspired by unit in open-source fantasy strategy game Battle for Wesnoth. It was also based on fiddling with this year's LUGBULK parts which included some golden sprout pieces and cheese slopes. More on Cyclopic Bricks.

[MOC] These Romans are crazy..!!

Excellent work. Great combos on the figs, I recognized all of the main characters. -
I've built Samus Aran of Metroid game series couple of times before, in Power Suit and Zero Suit, but never in correct orangeshade. Now I felt I had hoarded enough of it and gave a try. Samus is cool as she has so brightly coloured armor compared to many grippy game heroes. More on Cyclopic Bricks.

Is there anything from the OT that has not been built?
Pate-keetongu replied to PaddyBricksplitter's topic in LEGO Star Wars
There's still plenty of characters that haven't been built on larger scale. Leaving minifig scale behind should give you lot of opportunities. -
Was he greedy for power, or guided by higher though, or simply out of his mind? What made the old man, elder of the village, to leave behind the warmth of his house and climb up the mountains, to the moor cold and bare, which the cults of old had inhabited with ancient shrines, causes long forgotten? But there he went, and at the springs of the black stream he awoke what should not been disturbed. His fate remains forgotten; but since then has rain not ceased, nor have we had peace from the thunder and the lightning. The crops rot; The fields are flooded. Nothing will save us from the wrath of the Gale Serpent. Built for Palikkatakomo Ry's Monster contest. More on Cyclopic Bricks.

Is it only me, or does Sarge Enso look more like Rey than actual Rey? The new armor shell looks interesting. -
Discussion: LEGO Bionicle Makuta Contest
Pate-keetongu replied to Toa Palpo's topic in LEGO Action Figures
Alright, the rules. I think it's amusing that we have to build the baddest bad guy of all time, slaughterer of millions, bringer of war and plague and starvation and wossname without defarmatory or degrading elements or violent military themes. Actually they even forbade military themes twice. It seems that even evil had its standards. Or probably we should build Friendly Neighborhood Makuta. I'm a bit upset that only 10% of build may be SYSTEM bricks. I don't remember when I've been using that few SYSTEM pieces in a MOC. Well, challenges are never a bad thing, and at least I haven't even began building yet. Or have any concepts. We'll see. Also interesting that builders must be at least 13 years old. I wonder why that is. -
This is great. I really like the patterns and colour blocking; Can't go wrong with pearl gold and dark red, it looks always regal. The crown is fantastic, chest and hip areas well shaped and I like what you did with the feet. Asymmetrical shoulder pad is nice too. However, I think that the arms feel somewhat weak around the elbow joints, but that might be due to angle. I'd also bulk up the middle torso, as the hips are rather wide, but the cape (with works perfectly) mostly hides this issue. I don't really like the the weapon, it seems a bit impractical. And honestly I've seen enough bordakh staves fro a lifetime. Good luck for the contest!

I think the difference - the big difference - between G2 and G1 marketing and the attractiveness of the sets was the catalogue marketing. At least until 2006. Remember those spreads in the catalogues, with no set information at all, just sheer Faber graphic design genius, impressive CGI for the time, true feel of legends unfolding. Those catalogues were like sacred artifacts back then, I remebered the new bits of Bionicle story by heart. We got internet in 2007. I remember seeing some set online before the catalogue - fist must have been 2003 Makuta - But I'll always remember the feel of the new catalogue being finally found in a toy store. I always cheked the Bionicle story page first to see what adventures our heroes would face this time. I stopped taking those instructions few years back, so I can't say if there's cool promotional spreads about G2 sets in them, but I suppose not. And I neither have any sense if "kids today" find them as exciting as me back in the early years of this millenia. But after they ceased to do those spreads without actual set information - I think it was with Piraka - the theme began to feel somewhat... Ordinary? Commonplace? Something like that. There wasn't much G2 promoting overall in Finland. Most stores didn't have all the sets, and couple of creatures of this year weren't even released, or that's what I heard. At least they dubbed the netflix show or at least some animations: A couple of months back I was sitting in a bus, travelling to Helsinki to take part in entrance exam to some university, and took of my earphones and listened a bit; kid on the seat front of me was watching something that, deriving by the lines, couldn't be anything else that the new bionicle (skull spiders were mentioned). I think it was silly and I slumped back to my odd Finnish music. Of course the main reason I found G1 more attractive than G2 was that I was 7 at the time and now I'm on my early twenties and not that interested in plastic warriors; Or, I'm very interested in plastic warriors given than they are designed by meself and not anyone can get them by walking into a store. It just isn't the same thing any more, getting a new set. I'm getting boring, probably. Federation of Fear was great, by the way.

Well said, that man! I can't but feel that people tend to forget that TLG is a company. Fans = money. They actually owe nothing to us - We pay them to get some plastic warriors, not for promises of long, impressive theme and story. If TLG invests in themes like Ninjago or Elves or City or Star Wars, which are vital and well-selling themes, they are likely to get more fans and therefore more money. LEGO didn't become as strong as it is today - the biggest or second-biggest toy manufacturer - by investing in themes that don't sell very well*, despite there being some loyal fans. I'm not very upset about the ending of Bionicle. I feel I can't complaim because I only ever bought five sets and three of them were second hand... My invest of 50€ to Kopaka and Onua, both from 2015, isn't enough to keep the theme profitable... And I still feel those were overprized. G2 always felt rather expensive to me. Protectors felt just smaller than G1 sets with similar prize tag; Piraka, for example. Of course every Protector set was a lot better than any piraka, by having different builds, smaller pieces and, well, more dynamic posing and aesthetics. But that wasn't enough for me to buy them, which means that the theme wasn't succesfull on me. I like parts though, and I'm slightly dissapointed that we'll never get the printed dish and cloth parts from overlord Makuta. And I hope we get another un-licenced constraction theme - SW sets are good but expensive. But I'm not sure. Was the problem of Bionicle poor sales of Bionicle sets, or poor sales of action figures in general? Despite smart phones and pads and other magical contraptions of children of our time, SYSTEM building sets seem to sell better than before. But is it so with action figures, or is the era of buildable characters over? I hope not. There are lot of CCBS (or CBBS, I never remember that one) pieces I want recoloured. Bionicle or not. *At least not very much. Expect in Chima, maybe, and LEGO universe. And the odd non-buildable stuff of early 2000s.

I love the colours and the usage of dark red masonary bricks as the wall.

Those "Technic, Brick Modified 2 x 2 with Ball Receptacle and Axle Hole"-style parts have some differences, too. You seem to have used the original mold (2007-2008, I think), but there are two newer ones, 62712 and 92013. They have more friction, and whereas 62712, a child of unlucky ball socket overhaul, might be prone to breaking, 92013 is perfect in very way. Of course the friction extension piece mentioned above is the tighest, but unfortunately only available in dark bley.

Discussion: LEGO Bionicle Makuta Contest
Pate-keetongu replied to Toa Palpo's topic in LEGO Action Figures
Oh no, boring titans! I wish Makuta would have been, like, a protector with corrupted masks, and then turn into a blob of spinning pieces and tentacles. No? Oh well. Anyway, I really like the new printed dish piece and the purple cloth pieces (There generally are never enough cloth pieces). Actually, the golden-purple titan doesn't look bad at all. I might even enter the contest. Art of Bionicle book sounds good, even if it's only about the reboot. I'd love to have an art book of Faber's and Templar's work on the old theme, but this reboot seems to have lot of cool concept art too. On another topic, all 2016 Bionicle pieces are available via Bricks&Pieces. Bought Mask of Corruption (1,97€) and trans. medium blue Mask of Creation (~1€). -
Lu-Tze, or The Sweeper, is an old, wrinkly, bald smiling man, master of martial arts and sort of a policeman of time. But mostly just a sweeper. Based on a Discworld character by Sir Terry Pratchett. More on Cyclopic Bricks.

Lieutenant 955 is skilled and powerful and wears high-tech armor suit, but his weakness is arrogance: He tends to underestimate his enemies. This was rather spontaneous build of old Klaanon villain. Everything started with the head piece of Black Phantom's insect friend. More on Cyclopic Bricks.

Kirika Towa Alma, a character from video game Shining Resonance. Never played it (I usually play Worms Armaggedon and Super Smash bros) but found some cool concept art on internet and was inspired. The large sleeves were very challeging and made the balancing rather hard. Cloth is never easy! More photos and talk on Cyclopic Bricks.
