  1. Heck, I don't think these are that bad. Alright, extra Legolas, lack of orc helmets and so on, but at least we've got Dain with awesome helmet and recolored Dwalin beard (and a... ruby axe?), armored Thorin with Thror's crown, and a Galadriel to (likely) finish the Middle-Earth LEGO sets. The builds are not that bad neither, probably not at good as the first wave of LOTR or Bag End, but I mostly like them. Of course, licenced theme fans seem to care mostly about the minifigs, which is understandable because the sets would be way too expensive to be bought for the build or parts alone. I think I'll wait until clearance or something and get the Battle of Five armies. The price will be something like 80€ in Finland, but I got Weathertop for 36€, Moria for 45€ and Goblin King Battle for 57€ so I guess the price will drop somewhere sooner than later. Or then I'll just Bricklink Dain and Thorin. Actually, the saddest thing here is that we see Dain first time in minifig form in a blurry picture rather than in some cool official photo. Alright, he might have been on the trailer, but that wasn't very clear anyway.
  2. But Makuta was revealed in the end of the 2001 when Toa Mata fought him at the end of MNOG. You know, the tentacled entiny with spinning Bionicle pieces, always so much cooler than the titan guy. Didn't come as a set though.
  3. Thanks mate! Here's another one, Eastern European flavors this time: Aaaaand the bios here: http://cyclopicbricks.blogspot.fi/2014/08/steampunk-minifig-barf-flavours-from.html
  4. I find that piece of information very interesting. I would have thought that the Jagas has at least 30% more pieces. Another fact is that Nui-Jaga cost 35€ in Finland back in 2001 (checked in 2002 catalogue) whereas Queen Beast gets 10 more with her ugly 45€ pricetag here. That's the reason why I don't buy much constraction sets (got Brain Attack breez for 2€ so I guess no one buys them here neither). I'd like to get one cocoon though, the "petals" look like neat pieces for MOCing.
  5. Ahoy, steampunk figbarf in sight! Backstories here.
  6. Nice to hear that I have inspired you! Make sure to post some pictures when your MOC is finished.
  7. This is a bit older creation from March 2013. However, the color scheme was very hard to photograph, and I didn't post it here back then. Yesterday I was rearraging my display shelves and ended up modding this one a bit, building a stand for some dynamic posing and creating a black "studio" by taping couple of big black papers to a chair. I took the photos today and they ended up looking quite nice, giving an old creation a new life. The creation is Lady Liberty of the future - a giant mecha defending earth from invaders (teenage martians from outer space etc.) More photos here and some old babble here. Enjoy.
  8. Thanks! They are Belville doors. Bought them from a friend who got them on mixed parts bag given to LUGs by TLG.
  9. General Killjoy, a character on Klaanon universe, is the leader of war technology organization The Black Hand, which offered heavy Vahki support during the Great War of Metru Nui. He wears powerful battle armor which is equipped with twin ion catanas, a cannon arm and twelwe shoulder-mouted missile platforms. As most of my action figure MOCs, Killjoy uses SYSTEM, Bionicle and HF parts. I've build this character two times before - in 2010 and 2011. Hopefully the developement can be seen on them... See Cyclopic Brick for more info and Brickshelf (when moderated) for more pictures. Enjoy!
  10. Here's the newest - and the second to last - dwarf on my Company of Thorin Oakenshield project (which was formerly called Hobbit Dwarves project, but I am going to build Gandalf and Bilbo too, so...). Fili is brother of Kili (who made it into Eurobricks front page - yeah!) and nephew of Thorin Oakenshield. This young dwarf was a fun build as I had had 1 three-week break from MOCing bacause my summer job in nothern Finland. I's especially pleased with the face, boots and scabbard strap (which uses cord piece from CMF fishing rod). The hair was challenging: The only medium dark flesh pieces used are Persian arches, 1x2 bricks and 1x2 tiles, somehow held together via half-pins and other SNOT magic connections. The heirs of Durin: Thorin, Fili and Kili. There's more photos on Brickshelf, more information on Cyclopic Bricks and an overview of this project on Flickr set. This is also my 500th post on Eurobricks! Who's the knigh now! To the heroic deeds----->! EDIT: The heroic deed was to change my name into Pate-keetongu, the name I use in the most parts of LEGO community, without interrupting admins. But deep inside I'm still a pig. Better be a pig than a fascist pig, as Porco Rosso famously said.
  11. Love it. Very technically talented creation. It is built "horizontally", right? Would have been really painful to build (or assemble) it vertically.
  12. The head is great, having really "heartless robot" feel on it. The lower legs are neat too, I like how bulked up they are. Probably a splash of bright color as a model mark etc. would make the color scheme a bit more interesting?
  13. Seems quite medicore. Smaug's wings look neat and I like the throne part, but the mine is rather boring (I feel like we have seen similar things dozen times in the past) and five minifigs is not tempting enough. Probably still getting Balin and Dwalin from Bricklink.
  14. The styles have some things in common, including random SYSTEM bits and minifig bags as utility pouches, greebly outlook and so on.
  15. Good work. Reminds me of this. The filled eyes are nice, and I like the use of tubes on the torso. I don't think more tan is needed, except probably on the head behind the mask. Tan Bionicle heads don't exist, but as the head isn't visible and It's supposed to be a human, a SYSTEM-based tan head could work. The middle torso is probably a bit too thin if there's even an armor around the torso.
  16. Meanwhile in Bio-Klaani's "Natalie Breznikova" meeting in rather northern Finnish town...
  17. These are definitely adorable and show great skill of building. Jheemarsun and his guard Sir Donmike are my favourites.
  18. Brilliant, love the shaping on the tent and the top of the tower. Very nice work with tail pieces and various wedges. The color scheme is neat and refreshing, dark red and olive green being some of my favorite LEGO colors, and the trans-green pond adds great extra detail.
  19. Dolan Shakar, you said everything about the bionicle set problems perfectly. Proportions especially - Heck, with HF sets I had forgotten how terrible they were, especially on Glatorian sets. I'd love to get a skakdi set, probably even a hero skakdi set, but I doubt they'd make such a extreme move. And yes, complete reboot please, I really don't care what happened to the new characters on the stories after the theme's end; I never bothered to read them. The big question is wheter the theme locates inside the Matoran universe or not. If it does, it'll be a complete reboot, but it would give a chance to visit those iconic locations again. But as we now know it was giant Great Spirit robot (excellent concept, by the way), the location could feel less mysterious. My dream scenario would be something like: Game/videos by Templar (unlikely) Story not written by GregF (The older books and stories were alright, but the last years... I don't like story full of plot holes, overexplanation plus everything spoiled on Ask Greg Discussion) Titans instead of vehicles (likely according the picture) Mask packs (unlikely, but I'd love it) CCBS (definitely) Complete lack of clone sets, Bordahk staves, Takanuva Staffs, Air catanas... you know!
  20. Excellent! The tentacle pieces as vines add sort of a creepy feel to it, the conical rock is technically impressive and the supports being waterfalls is a great idea.
  21. That was purely a marketing gimmick to make it possible to release Tahu in his original form as a fanservice in the last wave (COLLECT THE GOLDEN BIONICLE... oh boy). I think they will change him back to nuva or completely reboot the theme. I think -or hope- that the oddness of the last waves won't affect this new (possibly fake) theme that much. Toa Mata leading group of Toa Nuva would not make much sense.
  22. I hardly ever break down MOCs instantly after photographing. It matters on few things: How much I like the MOC? Are there LUG exhibits coming where I could display them? Do I have enough shelf space? Usually I keep my MOCs built from few months to few years, nowadays longer than before as I have more parts. Usually the MOCs end up "rotting" on the shelfs with time whenI take parts from them to new creations, and when they start looking too terrible I break them down completely.
  23. I've got a bit mixed feelings on this one. Firstly, I'm surprised to see that there is lot of people saying "Whee, it's my dream came true!". Was Bionicle really that great, or were we just on the right age? I have hundreds of good memories with Bionicle, but honestly. Most of the media was quite average "to sell toys" stuff, especially the last years. No, I'm not saying there would be anything wrong with being fan of bionicle (or anything else), and I still love things like MNOG and all the other Templar stuff and Faber's work and Advance's animations, but that doesn't mean that calling a theme with particular name makes it awesome. Time will tell how much money and work they will but in this - if these are real. I can see them being photoshopped, black and white and the lack of stamp makes me suspicious. But it looks quite well done hoax if it is one. If they are rebooting Bionicle, I would have hoped they would have done it ten or five years later. 4 or 5 years are not enough to fill my nostalgia-o-meter nor make me feel seeing Bionicle logo on a shop breathtaking. It's just okay, well, same stuff again. When it comes to sets, HF system with more machine-like looking parts could be good; there are a few HF parts suitable for this, including "Captain America leg guards", "Fire-theme machine shell" and the others - you know what I'm talking about. But if they end up making sets with Piraka torsos and twelwe Bordakh staves... GET OUT.
  24. Here's another barf - Backstories on Cyclopic bricks as before!
  25. Definitely an improvement! I don't usually buy sets or left them built, but when I do I almost always make my own mods. Symmetrical design looks great there, and the back has some good shaping. Now if any of the real sets would have two printed armors as this one, but no...
