  1. Thanks for the comments guys! My brother has been tinkering with that Smart car since I got it for him for Christmas. I introduced him to this site and he's already picked up a few ideas for it and modded it further, I'll snap a pic later. Luke, I'm really glad you like the Stallion. Normally I'm endlessly tinkering with cars, but these and the Interceptor I feel I pretty much got right the first time. Like you said, I think it could easily be an official car, but the mini-muscle car look makes it stand out. It's basically the same size as the Smart, the over hangs are a little longer because it's built like the Interceptor. I always viewed it as a sort of modular automotive construction and I can't imagine why TLG didn't use more of it. The Python is my halo car, my baby haha. Those white wheels I got from the City Garage really top it off. I may do a roadster version of it, maybe in a white and blue color combo. I did a classic Python, it's in the background of some of those pictures, I don't know why I didn't snap one of it. That one is like a targa top though. The Seagrave I've redone too, I'll take a new picture of that. The torso is from that same Spiderman set, 4850. That has to have been one of my favorite sets ever because of those two cars. I recently rebuilt the tan car from it as well. That one has a printed 2x1 tile with a Pontiac grille. I believe Uncle Ben drove a Grand Am in that movie, so that was a nice touch. I agree about the torso too, the dark blue looks really good.
  2. That was my first thought when seeing the new fire truck. I want to pick one up eventually this year. But as for fitting in FB, I'm sure it will be a tight squeeze, if it fits at all. I made my own to fit in the bay.
  3. Thanks for the comments everyone. @ Luke, yes I did change the chassis of the car from dark bley to white. The dark bley looks so utilitarian to me, like it belongs on work vehicles. They need to make that chassis in more colors as well, black in particular. The chassis is another thing I dislike about this line of vehicles, its too bulky and you need the specialized fenders, the SNOT piece for the lights, and that 1x6 piece with the first and last studs that have the reverse angle. Classic town cars are much simpler to build and there was a pretty wide variety of chassis sizes and colors. And the white car is my Bolt Interceptor, technically a MOD of the police car from 4850 Spiderman's First Chase. That set introduced that type of construction for classic town scale cars(as far as I am aware) and I've been using it since. I have a thread for my town vehicles, I believe its on page 2 of this forum now.
  4. The car in this set is one of the better of these new City cars with the truck tires, but those tires still ruin the look. What should be a nice sports car, almost reminiscent of an Audi GT and R8 imo. So I made a few changes to make it look like a sports car and less like the love child of a car and a Jeep.
  5. I haven't updated this in quite a while, but here's a few new ones. First, the updated 2013 Bolt Python Next, what started as me trying to update 6525 Blaze Commander morphed into something else, so here is a Octan Brush Commander. This next one I haven't named yet, but its a black GT car. This belongs in front of a movie theater And last a car my little brother modded, his Smart Car with flower cart.
  6. But I do like it. My biggest beefs are the potential stickers, though I think I saw someone say they were printed, and the car. I'm probably going to mod the car, but it sucks as is. And what's wrong with wanting to collect the full set? Eventually I'd like to build Cafe Corner and Green Grocer from more common pieces since they're the only two I don't have.
  7. Bomb fire?? Sounds pretty dangerous, but it explains the look on the kid with the M-Tron shirt's face. Nice touch btw, classic space torsos make good vintage shirts. I love the brick built split barn door and that's a great use of the gold LOTR ring. Good luck in the contest.
  8. I don't get it. Are you going to buy it as a parts pack? Are you going to leave it in the box and let it appreciate? I'm not exactly sure what you're trying to protest or who you're trying to spite. As AFOLs, the group TLG designs this series for, I think we have a right to complain when something doesn't match our expectations for what the company and its paid model makers are capable of. There are some questionable aspects of this set that have some people on the fence about it. The car is awful, they've had better in $20 creator sets. If it indeed uses stickers that is very disappointing. The windows don't bother me as I won't be watching movies in there and dealing with the sun glare, but I can see why people are upset about that. TLG should know by now what the AFOL community expects of this line and one would expect them to pander to us, since few parents are plopping down $150 for a single set for their young child. As I've said before, I think most of the disappointment comes from the fact that this isn't the Empire Theater. I would rather buy that than this, but this is what TLG gave us and as it's part of a collection I'll have to get it. That's not to say I don't like the set, but it's far from my favorite in the series.
  9. You really showed them!
  10. I don't think the hate for stickers had anything to do with wanting attention. Not liking stickers is different than not liking the design of the set. I don't like stickers on any set I buy. I can never seem to get them on straight, they don't last like printed bricks, and for something like a modular that is the highlight of my layout, I would rather not deal with that. This using stickers is a legitimate concern for many fans of the line. And as for people not liking the colors or overall design, not everyone is going to love it. I hate hate hate how big TLG makes minifig scale cars now, with them using what used to be truck tires on sports cars and coupes but that doesn't stop me from buying them. I'm sure that some people much prefer these new, bulky things to the more dainty and somewhat outdated looking classic town scale cars I prefer. Different strokes for different folks, that's one thing I learned from years on car forums. And again, the mini-modulars used a printed brick, I would be surprised if this didn't. It wouldn't stop me from getting it by any means, but I would be disappointed. @ Charlieboy, if you plan to start with this and collect them, I suggest getting Fire Brigade before they discontinue it and prices jump up on the secondary market.
  11. I recall a bit of complaining when TH was leaked too. People hated the color, said it was too big to look right with the rest of the line, etc. I don't know, I don't regret buying a single modular and I eagerly await the next as soon as I finish building one. I started with PS, but got GE, FB, and TH after and am dying to add this, Deco or not I would have been buying it. I only regret not starting with CC when they first started the line, but I was in my semi-Dark Ages, only buying the occasional Star Wars set and $150 was hard to swallow for a set back then. Now I'm like Fry, shut up and take my money. And seeing your model on display at Rockerfeller Center was great, it might as well be a real set. Did you have anything in the store the weekend before Christmas? I was there but it slipped my mind to look.
  12. I'm still surprised by all the negativity towards this set. I'm looking forward to having an LA style movie theater in my town. I really think a lot of the negativity comes from the fact that this isn't Sonicstarlight's theater. I know I wish I could buy that but this looks great to me too.
  13. I think we're all a little disappointed that it isn't sonicstarlight's Empire Cinema. He set certain expectations with that MOC that it is difficult for even TLG to meet. As for this possibly featuring the dreaded sticker sheet(seriously, can anyone put them on straight? I always find myself trying to push them into place on the brick after I put iy on crooked), even the mini-modulars featured a printed tile for the hotel sign, which I thought for sure was going to be a sticker. Given that, i believe TLG understands the AFOL community's expectation for this series and I would be a bit surprised if they used stickers. Oh and as for that reuse of the pet shop girl, GG had some decidedly common torsos. The blue overalls? I my little brother even has that from one of those creator brick buckets or whatever they are. A white torso? Not really common, but totally uninteresting. On a side note, I just built the mini-modulars I got for Christmas(lovely set, I'm so glad I got it, I would be kicking myself if I passed it up like CC and GG) but we will have to wait for two more modulars and a corner for the second edition to that set, correct?
  14. I always thought both Grand Emporium and Fire Brigade had a New York City look to them. GE always kinda reminded me of Macys department store and I believe someone had posted a picture of a real NYC fire house that looked a lot like FB. And as for that baseplate comment from eiker86, how would they stop using baseplates? They're basically a necessity for a town layout. I just wish they would sell more individual baseplates in various sizes and colors. I'm running low on baseplates for my layout and I would rather buy them from PAB than Bricklink. I'm very excited for this set, do we have any idea when the release date could be? I would like this for my birthday in March. If not, I'll have to get the Horizon Express. Not that I'm complaining haha.
  15. Honestly, looking at this I don't think "chinese" but rather "Los Angeles". I just watched LA Confidential and this gives me a very 1930's Hollywood vibe, clearly what they were going for. The car is the weak link, but I don't think the city style limo would mesh with the period look. You can always use TLG's white limo or build your own. I think something more along the lines of EROL's vintage cars would have been better than this. The front is fine, it has a late 30's early 40's look, but aft of the windscreen it all falls apart. The sides are comicaly short, whereas American cars of the era looked bulkier with a higher beltline.
  16. I think it goes without saying that those of us who collect all the modulars would have bought this regardless of how it looked, but I must say that is one very good looking model. Given the time period of the other modulars(Town Hall computer aside...), I'm not surprised by the Chinese style of it. The limo and spot lights are a nice touch, as is the red baseplate to simulate a red carpet I would assume. I'm a bit disappointed that its a corner building though, it doesn't really work with my current layout. After I posted I went back and looked at the limo. It is pretty awful looking. I really don't like modding the modulars aside from what's on yhe sidewalk, but I may have to make an exception here. I'll wait for a better pic, but from what I can see, that car is bad.
  17. If this was a real set I might be making my my first winter village purchase. I love this MOC, the building itself looks wonderful and I love the rest of the models as well, especially the Ape and the snow covered tree. I also love the way you used the rounded pieces at the corners of the statue base, it looks very natural.
  18. These cars are all gorgeous.
  19. Thanks for the comments everyone. The tree is essentially TLG's design from Fire Brigade, just differing in size and color. I got a PAB bag of tree parts today for Christmas. The brown house my girlfriend is building. I'm not allowed to work on it and she has been busy with school so it's been sitting unfinished. I worked on the sidewalk and front yard though.
  20. As LT said, you can always mod a set or just MOC. If you think the Green Grocer is lacking in playability then build it without the back. I personally love the modular series and I probably would have even loved it when I was younger and actually played with my Legos. I would have killed for the town I have now when I was little, even without the ease of play of the open back buildings I had back then. I do agree though, I would love to see more sets like City Corner, with more small shops to fill out my town. The modulars are great, but they're expensive and require more pieces to MOC than a classic town style building.
  21. Layout The new park area I've been waiting on my PAB order for a month, and it finally came yesterday and I could finally put together my new trees. On display in the Grand Emporium, a mannequin sporting a Carmelo Anthony Knicks jersey Batman fighting Catwoman and Man Bat Spiderman doing spidey things The yellow truck is a hint at the future of my layout
  22. All we know is he's called the Stig! Service/parts counter and manager's desk The inspection machine and special tools lockers.
  23. I'm thinking now that I might just leave it one floor. If i did do a second floor, it would only be a small office, the dealership I work at has the offices upstairs. I want to pick up more of these trans clear windows plus some dark red bricks and build a school in this style. After I put this together my first thought was "school". On a side note, I got my first ever Lego train yesterday after two decades of wanting one. Red Cargo Train wad on sale at TRU so I jumped at the chance to get it.
  24. I just started rebuilding it a few days ago, a second floor is to come. I got tired of the way the 3 floor one one looked. Like you said, it didn't look like a dealership anymore. I got all these trans clear windows from a PAB wall and decided to put them to good use. My goal was to let in a lot more light with this version.
