  1. Thanks for the review! I would've preferred a regular infantry soldier to make army building with this set easier, but otherwise it's perfect. The decorated cannons were created exclusively for US releases of sets, because of some toy safety laws. I don't know why they changed their mind between then and 2009 though.
  2. Like this. I wasn't saying there shouldn't be any topmast shrouds, just that they shouldn't be continuous all the way from the hull. If you look closely at the Unicorn, you'll see the futtocks are there as well. But custom rigging sounds even better.
  3. That looks amazing! I really like your technique for widening the hull, it's much more seamless than the other techniques I've seen. The stern ornaments are really pretty too. I don't however like how the main shrouds go all the way up (even more how they're offset to connect in the middle). I think it would look better if instead of the second large ladder you added a small one going outwards to represent the futtock shrouds, and then continued from there.
  4. Looks great! I love your choice of inspiration, and judging by your last ship this one will turn out amazing. I would only change the deck color (tan on tan doesn't look good in my opinion), and maybe give her the curved quarterdeck seen on many East Indiamen; it doesn't seem to be present on your model of the PoW, but I think it would look quite good, and help set her apart from the multitudes of warships on this forum.
  5. You need to deeplink them, there's a tutorial here. The tutorial's for Brickshelf but the general mechanics are the same for Flickr, if you have any other questions just ask. Shame about the sidewheeler, there aren't many MOCs of those around. Why don't you just Bricklink the pieces?
  6. Welcome to EB! You aren't missing any sets, aside from UK polybags and the like. I don't personally own anything from this theme (that should tell you my opinion on them ), but you could check out the great review index.
  7. Classy. You've got my vote, once I get around to registering. Though to be honest I can't see this being made into a set, with 100 printed pieces, all those rare-colored jumper plates, not to mention licensing . . . But it's a lovely idea, and I'd definitely buy it. Good luck!
  8. I've been planning my next ship and I have a question: is it accurate for a sloop-of-war to have cannons exposed on the quarterdeck, or to be enclosed on the main gun deck? Having cannons on the quarterdeck seems more prevalent in real life, but most of the LEGO ships I've seen have another deck built on top of the guns. Thanks in advance!
  9. Awesome ship! It reminds me a bit of the Caribbean Clipper. I like the checkered stripe as well as the unique figurehead. I do agree with Blackar on the prow however, and I find it strange that the gunports open down, but other than that it's great. Looking forward to new pictures.
  10. Way to make an entrance, this ship is MegaBlocking fantastic! From the pic I thought you were building an American super-frigate, but no, it's going to be a two decker - even more impressive in scale. Can't wait for updates!
  11. Middle mast, bottom closest to camera. Sorry for the blurriness, I'm having camera problems. As you can see the bottom has the "nub" while the top just has a squarish hole.
  12. Nice fort! The height and monochrome of the walls are very intimidating, and there's plenty of cannon. But I don't like the inside, the platforms look too thin to support such heavy cannons or accomodate the recoil, and in any case it just looks too square and compartmentalized to me. Still, it's a great fort. Redcoats are back in business!
  13. Yes, the hull pieces have all 9 holes. I'm a little confused about what you're trying to ask on the masts though- what do you mean by "nubs" and "bottom connector prongs?" The parts that vertically overlap to connect the mast pieces to each other, or the horizontal parts to which the spars connect? In any case, the bottom mast piece has no spar connectors, the middle has two (on opposite ends), and the top has two, both near the top. Hope that helps, and here's a picture. My string is long gone, so I can't help you there. Good luck with the project.
  14. Woohoo! A Balrog set, I'm really disappointed TLG didn't include it in their Mines of Moria set. Your version of this scene, I think, takes the largest divergence from TLG's aesthic, simply because you couldn't mold your own Balrog. Nevertheless, it's my favorite of the five installments so far. It has a much more complete coverage of the movie scenes than the official, and I like the play features in the staircase and bridge. The decal for the door is really pretty. The others look great as well, but I don't have the time to look at them properly right now. So you're done with the Fellowship now, eh, looking forward to the Two Towers. Can't wait!
  15. SirSven, some of your prices seem a little high to me. I've been thinking about getting an Eldorado Fortress () recently, and if I remember the average was around 90 USD, 100 tops - around 60 pounds. And I got my ITP around a year ago for 76 pounds, again on the lower side of your estimate.
  16. The problem with bulk buying on Ebay is that you can't really choose what you get - after doing a quick search, there doesn't seem to be any specific (ie, 1000 grey 1 by 4 bricks) lots, and the majority are just scattered primary colors. I think the best solution for bulk is (if you live near a LEGO store) to order a so-called "K box". From LEGO's website, they only have stores in five countries: United States, Canada, Germany, United Kingdom, and Denmark.
  17. Looks great! I think it'd be nice if you added a nameplate "Diomedes" under the windows. I don't like the lantern, it's too simple and unrealistic IMO in comparison to the rest of the ship. I think either this or this could look good. But overall she's one of the best ships I've seen, as I've said in my previous post.
  18. I find myself in need of a translator. Thankfully I have Google translate. LEGO does have an "outlet store," here at Pick a Brick (PaB). While I've never used PaB or Bricklink, from what I gather for huge bulk buys PaB can be cheaper, but Bricklink has a much larger selection. Not sure on that though.
  19. The fort's looking good, we're nearing the end!
  20. Unrealistic as it is this is looking quite cool, unique design and great playability. Your furniture looks good, simplistic as the rest of the design but very TLG. The mini-model looks promising, I didn't know you were expanding it beyond the cross.
  21. Yeah, because instead of slotting in they only have four studs. It's weak even with a central axle like as in the IFS. I definitely prefer the old masts, for stability and aesthetics.
  22. I've lost about ten level 20's since the upgrade. + 1336 Guild fame. You can do solo Forbidden Jungle? I still can't figure out the boss, the radiating attacks scare me and I teleport out in seconds. I'd thought this guild was dead, I haven't seen anyone besides Doc for a week and then him not at all yesterday or today. Unexpectedly saw Harkshire today though, so I'm glad we're back up and running.
  23. Fantastic project! LIke the others I'm excited to see where this goes. I love all the oblique angles in even apparently straight walls, it really feels like a real castle. Keep it up!
  24. I hope so. I would've preferred the Orc Forge set to be the Siege of Isengard, with it's scaffolding changed to the "raft" that floated into the canyon during the Siege of Isengard, and of course the Ents. As it stands the set is a bit pointless (except for Orcs) in my opinion. Is it against EB policy to put Toy Fair pics on the site? If not I think it'd be helpful if a couple were deeplinked in the first post, so I won't have to dig through the thread to find the link every time.
  25. Tia Dalma of course! Nice find, Dreamweb. The locker is quite clever by itself, I do agree with the comments that it lacks personality though.
