Harry Potter 2020 - Rumors & Discussion
sammy_zammy replied to Captain Nemo's topic in LEGO Licensed
Yeah I agree. Anything bigger than the newer Winter Village sets (and certainly the size of the Modulare) would be too out of proportion with the rest of the HP line for me... and I feel we wouldn’t gain much out of it. There’s only so much they can fill a shop with, and I feel we’d just have loads of empty space. They would also be very hard to display (I’m already struggling to find a home just for the Great Hall lol). Also hello and welcome @Nina I know diddly squat about the inner workings of Lego too so you’re not alone ? -

They probably just haven’t updated the listing to show the correct info. I think I’ve had that message a couple of times when ordering games but can’t say for sure. Pretty sure it’s fine, and the preorder price guarantee is nice to have. -

Thank you very much! That’s very insightful. That makes sense. Yeah I’d like to get the book with it. There’s another store that’s selling it for £13; it looks legit so may get it. -

Yes that would be amazing! Lol no problem. That would be exciting if they did that. ——— By the way, the Magical Treasury is up for preorder at Hive for £14.85, RRP £18.99. Does anyone have any experience on how quickly something like this sells out/how low priced they go? As I don’t want to miss out, but also don’t want it to end up costing £5 (although those books have much lower RRPs) or less in a few months time like most of the other HP books with (non-exclusive) minifigures, and me feeling ripped off. -

It won’t be. That would only increase it by around 25%. This is an increase of about 175%, so we can reasonably hope for something at least twice as big. -

Lol it better me a bit more than 250 pieces larger. It’s 250 dollars more, not pieces more. (That’s pretty much all we know. So there’s your quick round up) -

*opens thread* Two new pages of comments in t he last couple of hours?! Could it be DA news?! *reads comments* Oh, just discussing what shops we want in DA again? Pfft come on guys don’t get my hopes up like that ? Personally I would rather B&B be included in DA than not be included in any set at all. But given the option of either in DA or separate, I would prefer it to be separate. The shops I would most like represented, regardless of whether they’re included in DA or separate, are: Most want - Gringotts, Ollivanders, Borgin & Burke’s, Weasley’s Wizard Wheezes Quite want - Flourish & Blotts, The Leaky Cauldron Would be a nice bonus - Madam Malkin’s Robes, Quality Quidditch Supplies, Eyelops Owl Emporium Don’t want - why would I not want more Lego? (Although if it’s micro scale I’d still prefer Tesco Express to Sainsbury’s Local personally) -

What?! You have spare wands lying around? Well I never! ? A Cartoonish, over exaggerated skeleton has always been fine, just like fantasy/historical weapons have always been fine. Meanwhile, in that specific scene they’re referencing, the unicorn is absolutely deceased. Also, that would be a 9+ set, not an 18+ like the Haunted House lol That’s my opinion though. -

Something I’m excited for though (which would be the case regardless of whether DA is an old-branding 16+ set or a new-branding 18+ set) is that this is gonna be our first minifig scale Harry Potter set with the sort of advanced building techniques and level of detail You get in D2Cs. As much as I love the HP range, there are some parts that I feel could have benefitted from being more challenging - be it more interior detail or just more elaborate, uniquely shaped builds and fewer big pieces. -

I’m not so sure it will. For a start it’s a Harry Potter set and never would have been under Creator Expert (although then there is the Star Wars one). And also, I don’t believe they’re gonna do that with everything. Take the Winter Village sets - firstly they’re not even 16+ let alone gonna be 18+. And secondly surely there’s no way they’d give a Christmas set a black background? And yet they’re still Creator Expert. I feel people may be (through entirely Lego’s miscommunication) Reading too much into them saying that they’re rebranding all of Creator Expert. -

Yeah I’ve been wanting The Leaky Cauldron as well, although I’ve kinda been convinced otherwise by people on here. The reason I want it is because it provides the connection to the outside world. But I understand that it’s less interesting than some of the others. I would love if they at least included the brick wall and it opens up using some mechanism, as it’d at least provide an entrance (and is a really significant part of it imo!) -

Lol I thought it was a room for the party too until I read the Lego.com description It’s $400 not £400, so would be about £350, like the Hogwarts Castle. We could get lucky and it’s less, but let’s go with £350. It will be a Lego.com exclusive for at least several months, then will be a John Lewis and maybe Smyths exclusive too. Probably will never be sold elsewhere. Hogwarts Castle dropped down to £300 for by the looks of it the first time in March 2019, roughly 6 months after release. It did this a couple of times with JL and Smyths price matching each other, several months apart. They’d both have been “be in the right place at the right time, and ready with your card details” type deals - blink and it’s gone. Cheapest it ever went was £280 on Black Friday and then £263 (using a generic £10 off voucher) a few weeks later. These were even more “get it quick” deals. It’s gone for £300 about once since. In total it’s gone to £300 and below only about five times. Basically - there’s an off-chance of a £300 sale sometime in the first half of 2021 if you’re lucky enough to grab one. It’ll maybe get a little more discounted on Black Friday 2021. That’ll be pretty much it. Youll be waiting a while and not even guaranteed to get it - it may be better to wait for a 10% VIP points offer, as it’s then around £15 more than the £300 and maybe even get a free gift with it. That’s my take anyway :) -

Hello! Definitely prioritise Aragog’s Lair (and the two Fantastic Beasts sets if you want them) as they’ve been retired. I’m already seeing Aragog going for Well above the RRP on eBay. From then on I’d prioritise the rest of 2018 as they’ll retire soon too. I’d worry about Great Hall the least though - we’ve discussed many times here that it’s the flagship and may last longer than the others. Definitely not disappointed by Astronomy Tower interior. In fact I think they’ve done a super good job of it. I don’t think it’s fair to compare to the Great Hall hall - as that’s obviously going to have a great interior, it’s precisely what the point of that huge space. A better comparison is the puny little rooms in the tower with the Great Hall - which are all much worse Than the Astronomy Tower rooms. As said before we’ve already had a DADA room - and you say “something more recognisable” but at least in HBP, Theres nothing recognisable about the DADA room or say the Transfiguration classroom in any of the films really. Transfiguration meanwhile needs to go at the top of a tower - reserves for Astronmy here. Library’s a good idea though. But the interiors are really great - I admit we’ve gotten a lot of potions rooms but it’s still a fantastic interior, and there’s not a lot else that’s recognisable like you describe especially in HBP. I have good experience with it from the UK but don’t know about importing. But they are a very good retailer. I definitely wish we got Dumbledore’s office as a set like in the original 2001 wave. Also, poetry classrooms? Relatable -

Thought so. I got it for £10 plus postage from someone with a BrickLink sale, although could’ve got it for just £10 from a UK shop that was entering administration and had 50% off all Lego (and annoyingly I skipped on on Christmas Day last year - they had Newt’s Case, Thestral carriage, Beauxbatons carriage, Expecto Patronum and Hungarian Horntail online - because I wasn’t sure lol) -

Yes it’s a lovely looking set and is very unique. But you exactly answered your own question about the issue many people have with it - it’s too expensive. Just because people have an issue with the price doesn’t mean they don’t like the set - but price is one of the most (if not the most) important factor when choosing something to buy. That is very true. But I don’t feel having e.g. large creatures makes me able to justify the price when considering what you actually get. Sure, it makes it justifiable on Lego’s end as to why they priced it like that, but as a consumer, I don’t buy based on the number of creatures, I buy based on whether what I see overall is worth the cost! I don’t know why I’m complaining tbh lol, I never buy HP Lego at full price anyway and it’s well worth £30 when it next comes down to that. I guess it’s just I feel the other sets are More worth the full price - the only thing stopping me buying them at full price is just the knowledge that it’ll be cheaper if I wait it out. -

Lack of space has been a great cost saving measure for me lol. I barely have space for minifig scale Hogwarts sets let alone the micro one! It’s been £30 a couple of times here and I’ve been tempted but haven’t gone for it as wanted to wait to build my others. I feel the 2019 wave in general was a bit overpriced, even if it was cheaper in total than 2018/20 due to fewer large sets (especially as this wave has two £90 ones). £50 for Hagrid’s Hut, £45 for Beauxbatons Carriage, £30 for Hungarian Horntail... Clock Tower was reasonable and Rise of Voldemort was great price though. -

I haven’t bought any of this year’s HP either, more to catch up on 2018/19 stuff first while I wait for 2020 stuff to be more heavily discounted (although it’s already getting some good 10-15% sales), but also so I can maybe save up for Diagon Alley. I feel I can justify it if I save it up doing some extra stuff online (paid surveys, etc). I’ll see how it goes, I may end up waiting for it to go on offer at other retailers like Hogwarts sometimes does, but then again that doesn’t happen for a long while and is always a wild goose chase. I’ve never really followed Star Wars sets. As a non-Star Wars mega fan, to me they’re mostly just... spaceships (and other vehicles). I know that’s absolutely not the case, and there’s a lot of other models and locations, and even the spaceships all look very different, but a significant Number Of the sets are still spaceships which I feel doesn’t provide so much variety. I’ll prepare to be torn to shreds by saying that lol, I know there’s many opposing arguments but they are still ships. Meanwhile Harry Potter has a huge range of stuff but a smaller number of sets. It kinda shows that less is more, sometimes. -

The only 2018 one I’ve got left is still Whomping Willow. I remember you were struggling to get the Great Hall - have you managed to get that yet? It’s coming in stock soon on several Amazons. I built it the other day and it’s a beautiful set. So I recommend at least prioritising the ones you feel are important for your display And you like the most. That way if you can’t afford them all and miss out on one or two you won’t be so disappointed. But also if you want to get all of them then definitely get all of them - if one day you think you would regret not getting a set then it’s worth getting them all, as although it may result in an expensive year, you’ll then have a cheaper year when this theme retires/repeats. Also you’ve got plenty of time for the 2020 sets, so there’s really no rush to get everything - it probably feels overwhelming like it does for me, catching up on so many sets at once. And then you’ll have all the 2018/19 ones and realise there’s not that many left and you have loads of time to spread out the purchases :) Lol every time I think to myself “collecting all this Harry Potter stuff is expensive” I then look at the Star Wars theme and realise how they have three times the number of $100 sets a year and three times the overall cost per year and feel glad i didn’t start collecting Star Wars! -

I really like the Lego Harry Potter game Crookshanks. Is that based on a real piece or did they make it up for the games?
