  1. This issue has been discussed quite extensively, yet I comment in every thread possible I definitely have a nostalgic feeling for the yellow with Crusaders and Black Falcons and the like, but for some reason the Licensed skin tone looks quite nice to me. I wouldn't go and replace all of my figures with the other skin tone, but I wouldn't dare mix them either. As far as POTC, a lot of people did have flesh on their torsos and I would agree that the coloring never matches. If you don't mind modding your figures, take a yellow permanent sharpie and color in the torso bit. It still is a slightly different color than the yellow head, but it never is a perfect match anyway (probably due to the colors printing onto a colored torso). I did a Jack Sparrow that way and sitting next to the Licensed version, it was night and day how different the two looked. If/when Haldir's hairpiece becomes abundant, I will start doing some of them in yellow to mix in the bunch.
  2. Nice one about the wand length. The shorter bar has been around in the CMF line for a few years. I've been using that shorter bar for wands since then. I never understood the need for that really long stick.
  3. Neat builds! Interesting concept for sure. Keep up the good work. I must say, lgorlando, seeing your stuff on Flickr a few years ago is what inspired me to get into MOCing Modular-esque buildings. That was before I officially get out of my Dark Ages since I was just using LDD at the time.
  4. I really like how you built the bike. It is rather fitting. I didn't mind the first movie, but didn't see the second one yet. Eventually we might get a figure from that series, but your version works until then.
  5. As detailed as the printing is and all of the new specialty pieces that are available, I would agree with Sid Sidious and say the Golden Age is when I was growing up with Lego in the late 80s/ early 90s. Those sets were top notch for me. Maybe it was because everything was new and big for my little eyes and hands. The new licenses are great, but I do miss the old original themes. Seeing pictures of the old advertisements makes me feel really nostalgic. It's great to see where Lego was and where it is now. But I will always consider that period the "Golden Age."
  6. I've had 6081 King's Mountain Fortress built since it came out in 1990. I did enter a Dark Ages from mid-90s to late 2010, but that set remained built in storage during that time. I haven't had anything on display for that long since I haven't been back into lego for very long.
  7. Nice little build. It will be good to see the final product. It is amazing sometimes how different the initial WIP and the final build can be. I considered doing a Japanese restaurant since getting some of the Ninjago buildings, but I didn't consider it for this contest. Keep up the good work.
  8. I think he just means the torsos not having yellow on them so they can be cross-compatible. I believe that really is the best way to go about most torsos so both "fleshies" and "yellows" can be represented by the fans that prefer one over the other. I can't wait to see what happens with this. I would be very excited for a return of the Wild West.
  9. These are great builds. I really like the idea of the story behind them. It reminds me of Thor a little with the different realms (only in Lego form so it's cooler). I really like the guardian of the Forsaken Spire. I may need to pick up some of those rock monster arms. What pants is he wearing? I also really like the Portal to the Skylands build. The overall scale is quite nice and the color scheme is brilliant. I like that guardian also. The colors work really well together without being too subdued. Keep up the great work. I may have to borrow this idea of my own storyline (for my own usage, not for a contest).
  10. Lovely build. I really like the color usage. I may have to borrow that idea. The street scene looks spot on to what I would imagine. Keep up the great work! It inspires me to start up my own Historic MOCs.
  11. That build is very impressive! All those red coats and blue coats The ships looks spectacular and the buildings exactly like I would picture it. I almost want to create something similar for my lego room (only a much smaller scale of course). On to buy red coats and MOCing pieces! Thanks for sharing.
  12. Thanks for the review. My mom bought this for me the other day. I have yet to open it because I'm not sure if I want to keep it. The Mandalorians look neat, but I don't know if I need 4 of the same figure. I'm still deciding. It isn't a lot for the price, but I guess it being a Battle Pack, it will be designed to sell for figures only. At least with the Endor BP you get some tree pieces which are useful to me.
  13. That is a very good question. I got back into Lego late 2010 because of Harry Potter. Since then I have spent thousands of dollars (I think close to $4,500) on sets and CMF. Within the last 6 months, I have noticed a huge decline in quality with the company. I've had multiple pieces missing or cracked and have contacted customer service multiple times regarding it. They have great customer service, but that isn't the point. The point is having to contact them on almost every single set I purchase to get replacement parts. I have contacted them so often, they require multiple safety steps before they will send out the parts. I understand they don't want to get ripped off, but am I really going to rip off TLG for a 1x2 dark blue gray inverted slope? It is to the point where I don't even want to contact them anymore because they make it such a hassle to get replacement parts. And that is only regarding missing or broken pieces. That isn't the many pieces that are different shades of the same color or more matte finishes instead of smoother texture. I agree that as long as the piece is good quality, I don't care where it comes from. But something needs to change at the company. The more I read topics like this and I actually think about the problems I have, I guess I (and others) am (are) willing to put up with less quality because we obviously keep buying. Although, I do know I have purchased significantly less this year than I did last year. So maybe it is the beginning of the end for me. Who knows. I hope TLG will figure out their QC problem. I will be interested to see other people's responses.
  14. If it is a fur trader, then I will buy multiples. If it is a modern businessman, I might get one if it looks decent. I really hope the fairy is more mythical also. But I will take a fairy at any rate, depending on the wing structure. I would assume they will use something similar to the new Geonosian wings as far as material goes. It looks okay, but I'm sure there are other ways to do it. It's funny how people say this is the worst series, when just looking at the list, I think it is one of the best! Very peculiar.. But I will wait until pictures because I may end up wanting very few in the long run. I only first heard of CMF at the end of series 4, so I've missed out on A LOT!
  15. Great customs! Those torsos look great. I may have to look into doing something similar myself. I wouldn't want to face that army in battle. Keep up the great work. I can't wait to see more!
  16. Thanks for the review. I would definitely want to pick some of these up if I ever come across them. It won't be my usual army building polybag, but I wouldn't mind a few extra ghosts to spook the locals.
  17. When I first read this topic I checked all of my figures. They were all (fortunately) fine. Now I am going to have to recheck them all to see if enough time has gone by that has caused problems. I haven't noticed anything with the figures directly, but I've been noticing a lot of my bricks have cracks in them. As in, new out of the box cracks. I've had so many complaints with TLG over the last 6 months that it is getting incredibly difficult to have anything replaced. I'm sure they want to make sure I'm not ripping them off. Which is understandable, but good for them, I'm an honest individual that is having a lot of frustration with their product. Hopefully everyone can get their pieces without breaking.
  18. That's great news about the Iron Man sets. People have talked about TLC taking inspiration from comics, but it sounds like they will probably pull as much inspiration from the upcoming movies Marvel is doing. Which is smart to tap into that existing fan-base and feed off of an already successful franchise, but with the way they are pumping out movies, we may never see any actual comic derived sets. Don't get me wrong, I have no problem with building a scene with Lego. Just an observation. I would imagine we will get Thor 2 sets also (as others have mentioned). It would be neat to get some other figures in their universe than just the main hero. Hopefully they will make the figures a little different, otherwise it would be silly of me to have gone Super Hero crazy this wave if we will get rehashes of the same people next year.
  19. Nice little build. I agree that it is bland compared to Modulars, but when you place this building by itself, it is superb. The overall design and feel screams Lego. The interior is really well done as well. I can't wait to see your official entry!
  20. Great build. Not surprising though. Your work usually speaks for itself. Highly detailed inside and out. This contest will definitely need my A game to compete. As beautiful as I think your building is, my only complaint is the height. I realize going much shorter would not give the same appeal, but since it is that much taller than the Green Grocer which was already taller than the other modulars (save the Town Hall), it might stand out a bit more. But on the other hand, not all buildings are the same height in real life. I realize this. I have had some similar ideas for my own entry, but different enough and in different colors. Your builds always have some nice areas of detail and good color usage. I especially like the gable work and the window details. The color scheme is really smart. I was trying to use a slightly less common color (that I don't have a lot of) while still maintaining the same basic feel of the Modular line. I wanted to use nougat originally, but I couldn't justify ordering a bunch of pieces, so I am going with something I have more of without breaking the bank on orders. Good thing I decided against nougat since I wouldn't be able to do it justice like you did. It stands out among the crowd. Keep up the great work.
  21. A male red cheerleader with a giant S. Go Spartans! The more I think about this list, the more I get excited. I really want to see pictures of course, but I missed out on a lot of the earlier versions of the repeated titles, so we'll see how the newer ones stack up.
  22. I thought about doing something very similar with Ollivander's. The color scheme is very whimsical and could blend in with the colorful Modular line. The interior is really well done also. It is a welcomed addition to the busy downtown area. Keep up the good work. I'll have to step up my game to compete for this contest.
  23. The color usage is well done. I like the scattering of bricks to add in some change from the solid blank wall syndrome. The front tan with dark tan plates in random areas looks superb. The use of the dumpsters and creating an alley is brilliant. I like how the dumpsters maintain the technic piece to connect modulars. Very clever thinking there. The interior really steals the show. Very clever built bikes. Keep up the good work. Good luck in the contest. I see I need to step up my game to compete.
  24. Thanks for the review. I really miss these old sets. The printing and detail on the new sets are fantastic, but I love the simplistic design and color usage back in the late 80s/early 90s. I really miss those days of Lego. Probably because I was young enough everything was so amazing and new. But even looking back I still miss those sets even without all of the details. Keep up the great reviews. I want to buy more of the classic castle and forget about the new stuff.
  25. I should be smarter about it. Usually when I buy a set, if I originally bought it to be built, I will then open it and build it, even if I don't have enough room. If I bought it for a parts pack, then I don't worry about it as much until I need it. It is a magical moment when you first open something you really want and then build it. MMV was a fun one, although my builds kept getting disrupted with a toddler walking around. I typically build them and then put them in the basement and forget all about them, unfortunately. I have 4 or 5 giant pirate ships on a few tiny shelves without room to properly display them. The IFS being one of them. One of the most beautiful sets ever. I'm glad I got it this past Christmas. I currently have a few LOTR sets still in the box, but I am going to save those for Christmas. Talk about willpower.
