LEGO Star Wars 2021 Set Discussion - READ FIRST POST!!!
ARC2149Nova replied to MKJoshA's topic in LEGO Star Wars
I added the different weapons just to accentuate how different each member is. I for one don't exactly care about the reused helmets on Hunter/Echo, but for those who do, it's a tad tiring to hear about "Lego did the best they could!" or "Lego's knocked them out of the park" or my favorite: "It's Lego not Hasbro" (not throwing shade, I've seen it said many times about multiple figures in the past). Crosshair is the absolute biggest offender. I'm sure they could've squeezed out a couple of extra cents to make a proper helmet for him. Maybe if we get him in his OG outfit, I dunno. Also, I was a tad bit irritated at issues outside of the forum, so I admit I was a bit salty in my prior post. Echo's got far worse problems than the helmet of course, which, barring a new arm, will be difficult to rectify (even the current purist solution gives him an arm that's way too long). If you like them, fine. But I feel like making excuses for Lego (in general) isn't in anyone's best interests. They do what they do, and if it's not their best work, it just isn't. No ifs, ands, or buts. Personally I'm over the moon at the exceptional work done on the Mandalorian figures (still pissed about that Mortar Trooper helmet ), so the Bad Batch being "meh" doesn't move me either way. -

You people will take anything Lego throws at you... This is so...where to begin? Yes, I think we are all aware that Lego has it's own style, but for kriff's sake, they still make a concerted effort to get the looks as right as possible. This is uninspired at best. Some of these make bootlegs look better by comparison.. Crosshair looks nothing like Crosshair. Full stop. Hunter looks slightly like Hunter. Echo is weird because while I get it, it's just so off-putting that he and Hunter have the same helmet. The Bad Batch is supposed to be unique. Different weapons, different gear. They don't share the same helmets, because each one is fitted to their specific specialty. Yes, Tech looks great, so does Wrecker, and I'm not too bothered by Hunter, but come on guys. I would say its okay to be fine with mediocrity, but trying to say that "just good" is "good enough"? No. And had they scrapped those pointless speeders, they could've done better. I'm a minifigure collector first and foremost, so I'm gonna call Bantha bricks. Now granted, I tend to be bothered less by certain choices regarding minifigs (I love TCW designs, and the Rebels' Stormtrooper. Sacrilege I know), but I think these guys deserve all the hits they've been getting. I mean, would it have killed them to at the very least attempt to give Crosshair a new helmet? One with a hole, preferably. His rangefinder is critical to his character design. -

Using the same helmet for three out of the five Bad Batchers is quite ludicrous. Hunter's helmet is a "Phase II" variant of the Clone Commando Helmet, Crosshair's helmet is a modified Phase 1.5 ARC Trooper helmet, minus the fin, and Echo's helmet is essentially a glorified faceplate that covers around his cybernetics... Lego dropped the ball... Hard. Hunter isn't too bad, imo, but that helmet is extremely off. The entire shape is off. And Crosshair is just terrible... Imperial suit or no. -

I think @JLR was just joking, guys. I wanted to point out about what was said earlier about repainted species, technically, there is president for it: 2015's "Gallimimus" was notoriously nothing more than a repainted Coelophysis. And count me among those that prefer the 2015 I-Rex to the newer one. I think its ability to grab figures was a defining feature. -

I've only seen the figures (don't know if the whole set leaked), and they look brilliant! Sure, the Armorer's horns should be gold, but I like the contrast. And printing them would've looked a lot worse. This is more visually appealing. Paz is excellent, hoping the set comes with his rangefinder, but if not, I've got plenty spares. -

Lego does a pre-authorization charge on your card at the time of ordering. After a day or so the charge will fall off. Then when the order's ready to ship, they'll make the actual charge. -

Dude, you can just ignore people's opinions. Besides, I've heard way more positive than negative things about the show, which is impressive. Most loved is definitely Empire, though As to Beskar Mando, I think the only thing wrong with him in so many sets is that none of them come with a Jetpack! I kid, of course. I'm personally just amazed that he warranted enough attention to get a whole wave (which he definitely deserves). Plus, like @BrickBob Studpants said, this issue is way worse in other licenses (though I will grant you that the main characters often have variants). I mean for God's sake, Owen's in a wave of sets about a show he's not even in! -

I'm thinking something along the lines of MOCs, where the ball turrets are usually brick-built. Throw in a wide range of translucent pieces for the "bubble" effect and that would most likely work. The wing turrets are less of an issue, probably the usual setup, or a new method to match the bubble turrets. -

Don't get me wrong, I did most certainly enjoy Rebels overall, just like I enjoy TCW overall, and I respect many of the points you make here, but keeping the tone is important. It's not the be all, end all, and just like in real life, lighter stories can often serve a purpose, but when the stakes are so meaningless nobody really dies, it kind of defeats the purpose of the show. This is Star Wars, and TCW imho did a much better overall job of putting the War in "Clone Wars". I understand why Rebels wasn't as complex as far as battles and such, but I think a rotating perspective could've helped immensely. Not to mention I was very disappointed in some of the choices they made with Sabine (they make it seem like the Empire destroyed her family, but they're all alive, despite a weapon she made to wipe out the Mandalorians) that wasn't very compelling in my opinion. I still enjoyed the Mandalore arc (and Sabine as a character), though. I can understand your viewpoint on the deep topics. But I think that's where the larger universe comes in. TCW set the seeds for some important developments in later canon (the Onderon rebels being the most overt example). The slavery arc might've been handled better, but I think that's a deep topic best suited for either a different media (i.e. comics or novels) or a different show. I appreciate that you said most. As new characters, Ezra and Kanan did come a long way, and I appreciate the acknowledgement of TCW's uphill battle to make Anakin of all people actually likable. But I also loved the deep dives into Obi-Wan, I've sometimes joked that he's assembled a bit of a "Rogues Gallery" because of TCW. I can always appreciate individual taste. It's really about the types of stories you prefer, and the specific storytelling tactics you enjoy. I'll always prefer spectacular battles and political intrigue over a family on the run, but that's not to say I won't enjoy it. Now that we're all friends again, I fear straying further off-track. -

Heroes and villains. Minor characters and civilians. When last did Rebels have terrorist attacks? Mass civilian massacres? Aside from the one camp on Lothal, and the attack by the Fifth Brother and Seventh Sister I have trouble remembering. Maybe The Duchess counts? And I agree, darker is not always better: except that Star Wars is an inherently dark universe. And a show like Rebels has trouble keeping up with the tone of the movies. Of the top of my head, TCW killed senators (actual assassinations), tons of clones, other biological military personnel, multiple Jedi (Adi Gallia, Evan Piell, etc.), multiple civilians, slaves, gangsters and bounty hunters, CIS officers, and the list goes on. Rebels killed one politician, some Imperials, the useless Inquisitorius, and a few faceless Rebels. Oh and Sato, RIP. Star Wars is a very mature series, and yes, there are lighter elements, nothing is ever purely dark, but still, the tone is important. If a character (in Star Wars) survives something that would kill them in any other media because "kids show" then that's just poor writing. -

You've answered your own question. If Rebels hadn't pulled its punches because Mistah Mouse said so, it would've been a way better show. But the childish-aspect of some of the plots and scenes makes for some tonally inconsistent material. Rebels was at its best when it had actual stakes, when characters could actually die. Unfortunately, no one people cared about could bite the dust (until Kanan) because "kids show", whereas, with a few obvious examples, any character could die in the Clone Wars. Sure, we knew Anakin, Obi-Wan, and Padme would be safe, but the others? TCW doled out death in spades, and it was on cartoon network! Absolutely unheard of. Not to mention, I think Star Wars suffers from having to share everything (movies, books, cartoons) in the same Universe, because then there's so much tone-shifting and "dumbing down". Characters who'd be ripped to pieces in another media survive by the grace of "kids show". But then again, Clone Wars doesn't have this issue. Compare to comic books, which have the luxury of multiple "Earths" to work in. You can prefer whichever you'd like, but ultimately TCW was executed better than Rebels, especially when it hit its stride in the later seasons. But imo, there are gems all the way back to the beginning. And "well thought out and professionally written" characters often left me underwhelmed with how their plots where ultimately handled *coughSabinecough*. If anyone cares to question why, you can always PM me. Hopefully. Especially with how secret the announcement seems to be. It'll be pretty hard to spoil a UCS set, unlike, say a $30 retail set. -

"Even sand is better!" Pesky people with their varied opinions. That's actually a really cool idea. I think it'll be cool to set up the Throne, Din, Grogu, Cara, Bo-Katan, Greef, Boba, and Fennec. The perfect figure display. I don't usually buy sets day one, but Trouble on Tatooine was a special exception, and I think some of these will be too. I'm thinking the Gauntlet, Light Cruiser, and Slave I. Hopefully there's a good promo going then. -

I think the ESB armor has the helmet in a lighter (sand) green color, whilst the standard pads are in fact a darker green. I could be wrong. I happen to like the current Jetpack, it's one of those few pieces Lego gets right first try. That being said, the jetpack molded into the original figure is more accurate. But Lego hates giving Star Wars characters unique molds. Because then the clones, Mandalorians, and the Fetts would all have different jetpacks. -

I think TCW's anthology nature is what makes it so great, focusing on various aspects of the war throughout. Rebels does have a nice central plotline, but wastes a lot of its potential. There are some gems in Rebels, and overall I enjoyed it quite thoroughly, but to me, TCW will always be the better show. For one, George's involvement meant that often times it was his creative vision that was being outlined (alongside Dave Filoni's), and it failed to pull its punches when given the opportunity (War is hell), while Rebels had to often "dumb down" its violence despite its target audience being the same as TCW. It felt very tonally out of place at times, with the best characters often being the more mature and/or having experienced the most growth (Ezra's journey is like that of Ahsoka's in a way). I understand liking one long story as opposed to smaller chunks, but those smaller chunks provided amazing glances into the overall lore of Star Wars. Bad Batch is in its infancy, so I think it's too early to dole out judgement. I like it a lot so far, but I want clones on the run, not A-Team in Space. I like Omega, I like Cyd, and I like the potential, but only time will tell whether they will waste it, or fulfill it. Last reason why (imo) TCW far outweighs the others in its class is because of this: out of TCW's core cast (Obi-Wan, Anakin, Ahsoka, Rex, & Padme), all of them had significant growth and character develop by the end. So many lessons learned, so much pain to endure, it turns one of the arguably worst things of the prequels (Anakin) into one of its best. You got to feel the true tragedy of the war itself, that it's not just a pointless war fought by clones who didn't matter. But that the Republic had bred men (not clones, men) destined to fight and die for a cause which they did not choose. And that these men joked, had friends amongst each other, forged bonds with their Jedi overseers, had hobbies and had fears. It makes the ultimate outcome that much more tragic. Compared to Rebels? I think Kanan, Ezra, and Sabine are the only ones with real development. Hera is one of the best characters, but she seems to have her head screwed on from the start, and gets less development than the rest. Zeb has... history, but that's really it. 1 episode & some dialogue a character arc does not make. Not to mention, the war is not very nuanced, they even go out of their way to dehumanize the soldiers on both sides. They're just red shirts, people who exist to serve up a death count and nothing more. But neither is perfect, and both are flawed. Overall though, I feel more TCW is more Star Wars than Rebels, both from an objective meta (that being George's involvement) and simply in the way it's executed. Rebels has its moments, and is by no means a bad show, but I have to give TCW the edge in overall quality. After so many years, I still recall Trespass, The Hidden Enemy, Rookies, Cat & Mouse, Hostage Crisis, The Citadel, Supply Lines, and those are just from the first three seasons. 2nd Battle of Geonosis to the Death Watch plot, these were memorable episodes. I can't recall that much of Rebels on the other hand, and I know that's very subjective. So the smear ends here! TCW > Rebels all the way (though they're both pretty good ) With that off my chest: I really am starting to warm up more to the Mandalore Throne. It's a cool little display piece. I think I'll have Bo-Katan sit in it though (or perhaps even Mando ) Better pics truly do the sets justice. -
