LEGO Sci-Fi Ongoing - Rumors, Speculation, and Discussion
danth replied to Lyichir's topic in LEGO Sci-Fi
Good god people. We have no evidence of this. Retirement dates change, sets get discounted, it has nothing (necessarily) to do with whether a set sells well. Walmart discounted the Galaxy Explorer almost immediately, before they could have possibly known whether it was selling well. It was just a promotion. The even lower prices we did see on the set were from Walmart only on f@$%ing Black Friday. Walmart was clearly using the set as a loss leader/promotional item. I missed some of those sales, and the prices went back up after, which wouldn't be the case if they weren't selling. -
2025/26 Castle [wishlist/speculation]

You know what might make them sell better? A f@&%ing CLASSIC SPACE MAN. Come on Lego. Make a CLASSIC. SPACE. CREATOR. SET. 👏👏👏👏 Oops sorry, truly forgot I was in the Castle forum. I do think the minifigs in the new Creator 3in1 Castle are great and are definitely going to sell it. -
[Poll] What is Your Favorite Castle Faction/Subtheme?

Black Falcons. Second would be Forestmen. Polls like this always reveal that my opinions are mainstream. Maybe I'm boring, or maybe great minds think alike? -
LEGO Sci-Fi Ongoing - Rumors, Speculation, and Discussion

It's not shipping though, it's a service fee. There's still shipping on top. Personally I don't care why there are two different thresholds. And I don't believe parts magically space warp to another factory when they become best sellers. It's Lego's problem, shouldn't be a customer concern. A service fee for less than $20 is reasonable I guess. But not when they split things into two groups that both have to hit $20 each. Anyway the point is, sometimes it's nice to get the minifig you want in a small set rather than paying $20 in fees and shipping from PAB. -

I just went to order some Blacktron figs. I tried to search by set, the Renegade, and got an error showing no results. I know I did the same search a couple days ago so I tried again and again, and kept getting the error. Then on the FIFTH try it finally worked. So indeed, the Lego website does suck. It sucks in many ways, but this is just one. Anyway, I added the pieces for 4 Blacktron minfigs, but it split it into "bestsellers" and "standard". The torso was "standard" and everything else was not, which is impossible. Simply cannot be true. Anyway, shipping + fees was $20. For only $8 or so worth of parts. Apparently you can click the "i" next to the service charge and it will tell you how much you need to spend to get rid of the charges. It's separate for "bestseller" and "standard". Kinda stupid if you ask me. So anyway, I had to buy 11 minifigs, plus some random parts, to get rid of both charges. Ended up being the same price as paying the service charges. So you can't just buy a non-scalper amount of minifigs. You HAVE to buy a bunch to get rid of the charges. So "just get parts on PAB" isn't really a reasonable solution. You get charged pretty ridiculous fees unless you are willing to buy about $40 worth of parts minimum. Unless all the parts you want just happen to be "bestseller", or all are "standard", then you only need to spend around $20. -

Is there any guarantee this part will be in PAB? Or that bricklink scalpers won't buy them all up? Honestly asking because I don't know. Are there limits on how many of one piece someone can buy on PAB? How do people find out that a part is on PAB before they get sold out? -
I dunno about this. Not sure how you can make an interesting Lego set out of One Piece... ... 😆

Yes! That's a good way to put it. They have that "je ne sais quoi". Same. If that set had, say, trans-blue windscreens, it would have been 10 times cooler.

Sometimes some good Creator 3-in-1 sets are revealed and I remember why I like Lego so much. The castle and haunted house look so good. Clean, classy designs, themed without any movie baggage, alt builds, (hopefully) no stickers. And the minifigs are spectacular. Creator is basically now a place to make sets from any past in-house theme. We have Castle, Vikings, Pirates, and now Monster Fighters. Still need Space though... What's cool is the castle "feels" like Castle even though it has all new factions in new colors. I'd KILL to get a Creator Space set like that...say something with trans purple windscreens and a new but "classic" feeling space minifig design.

Welp. There goes $25. Not bad for multiples of all the prints and windscreens. Didn't get the minfigs though. -

That's what I get for trying to post news past midnight. Having a big Classic Space print in red is going to drive some crazy MOCing. New factions will be invented. -
Epic! Much more exciting than the official build.

Viper by BlindFire321: I love how clean this looks! Yeah yeah, no studs, boo hoo. No studs looks awesome. I would LOVE to see new Lego Space sets in this style. Clean, classy designs, no stickers needed. There aren't even that many pieces.

Didn't Futuron use trans-blue? -
What's weird is the new Creator Horse Knight Castle leaked pics show surprisingly nice-looking brick-built horses, while the Creator Unicorn Castle leaked pics show a surprisingly not-brick-built, molded foal.

How funny is it that we're all resigned to Creator horses being brick built, but the Creator Unicorn Castle was just revealed to have a molded horse? -
Are there too many licensed LEGO themes?

I made a point on this that was completely ignored by everyone on the "there's no difference" side: Personally I don't care as much about "creativity" as freedom. A generic minifigure is whoever I want it to be. A Spiderman figure just isn't. Not to say licensed minifigs are bad. It's just not always what I want. -

Well. I finally built my Renegade a couple weekends ago. It's easily the worst Icons set ever made. I'm not sure there's any point explaining. Just...look at it. Look at the original Renegade, and then look at the new Renegade. Now look at the original Galaxy Explorer, and then the new Galaxy Explorer. If you don't see the obvious shortcomings, and just how far off the mark is compared to the Galaxy Explorer remake, nothing I can say will sway you. It just looks terrible. Especially the messy, misshapen, wings and the blocky front left sensor array. This is the only Icons set that one first sight I thought didn't look really nice. It looks like a mediocre MOC at best. The kind you don't comment on because you can't think of much nice to say. I do like the printed parts and the new yellow windscreen. -
Are there too many licensed LEGO themes?
danth replied to imposter's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Yep. Sorry for saying it in a way that was easy to interpret the way you did. On re-reading it, I see why...more my fault than yours. I guess I was trying to say, unlicensed fans aren't eating good right now, and license fans are, so it feels like punching up to say "I hope your dumb license get canceled." Star Wars fans can laugh at me all the way to the Lego store, no matter what I say. I would love to be in a situation where Lego was making awesome unlicensed Space sets that SW fans savaged online. -
Are there too many licensed LEGO themes?
danth replied to imposter's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I really didn't mean that at all. It's a hypothetical, like you said, about what I would do, not about you. You were saying that I want other people's beloved themes to be canceled, and that I would gloat about it if it happened. That, to me, would be an a-holey thing to do. So I was saying, no, I would not be the a-hole that you said I would be. -

No, not again. I did that pages ago! 😁 And by attack surely you meant "explained the perceived shortcomings of Star Wars sets from a Space fan's perspective so as to justify his preference".
