The best part of the dragon is that it shows you can build awesome wings with bricks/plates and you don't need cloth or vinyl sheets for the wings.

LEGO Sci-Fi Ongoing - Rumors, Speculation, and Discussion
danth replied to Lyichir's topic in LEGO Sci-Fi
I just don't want any stickers. Give us some printed tiles a la 10497. The 2025 City Modular Spaceship has leaked. It has minifigs with the BAM Futuron-esque torsos but also in green. -
Medieval Dragon and Spider Surprise pics leaked. The Dragon looks awesome.

LEGO Sci-Fi Ongoing - Rumors, Speculation, and Discussion
danth replied to Lyichir's topic in LEGO Sci-Fi
Color-wise, the sets are City-coded IMO. The space ships are all "shuttle" colored; mainly white but with black wingtips and leading edges. Trans-black (old or new) is typically a City windscreen color as well. -
I've always loved Fabuland. I was hoping Animal Crossing would be similar enough to what Fabuland 2 might look like, but the AC minifig head sculpts are a bit too stylized for my liking.

Choosing only one is difficult. Today I choose Alien Moon Stalker.

Are we sure it's not that weird satin trans blue? -
Latest impact of other themes on historic themes
danth replied to Wardancer's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
I'm not taking it hard at all, I'm just calling it like it is. I had forgotten all about it already until I saw your reply. The problem is there are no sub $100 sets for fans of classic themes that aren't GWPs or otherwise non-retail sets. Heck, most classic Space sets regardless of price are GWP or employee exclusives. We have the Galaxy Explorer, then the Blacktron GWP, then the Cosmic Daydreams set, then the micro scale GWP. Only one set is retail and it's $100. It's not quite as bad for Castle, but still there are no sub $100 retail castle sets. Or am I forgetting some sets? Regardless, both the recent employee exclusive sets are really cool, and more exciting to me than the recent GWPs (the Blacktron and Majisto GWPs were fairly disappointing), and there's no way to get them. Bottom line: You just can't expect fans of these themes to be happy about cool sets they have no way to get. -
Latest impact of other themes on historic themes

Well, I'm taking the existence of these sets as a personal "F*** You" to fans of classic themes. This and the Space set from a while back are both amazing sets with awesome, exclusive minifigs that fans of classic themes would love, but they're not available to us. You can't even get these on eBay or Bricklink, unlike GWP sets, and GWP sets are already fairly exploitative. -
The Sci-Fi forum is so dead it doesn't matter. I know if someone is nice enough to comment on my MOCs, I try to think of something thoughtful to reply with besides just "thanks", and sometimes I have to think a while to come up with something.

For real! The modularity is just spectacular, and every part of it looks cool. I also really like the little vehicle on the landing pad with the black Technic panels for wings. Nice Job @Operacion Saturno!

[Poll] What is Your Favorite Space Faction (1978-1999)

That's basically how I felt. I didn't mind the colors themselves. If SP2 was just a different faction it would have been fine. -

[Poll] What is Your Favorite Space Faction (1978-1999)
danth replied to SpacePolice89's topic in LEGO Sci-Fi
I remember, when SP2 came out, being very upset that they changed the colors. I think because of the color changes, for both SP2 and Blacktron 2, I kinda checked out of Lego until Ice Planet. Same. -

Yep. The slopes on each side of the windscreen look like rock formations. The weird ramp thing behind the thruster makes no sense. Whatever the trans blue walls on the wings are supposed to be, I dunno, but they are super bulky on top. The whole thing is a mess. -
[Poll] What is Your Favorite Space Faction (1978-1999)
danth replied to SpacePolice89's topic in LEGO Sci-Fi
I think designs after Ice Planet just weren't as good. I consider the Star Hawk II to be possibly the worst Lego spaceship design. As for Spyrius windscreens, I think both robots had trans red, so maybe they were trying to be consistent with spaceship vs robot colors. But still, I also prefer more unified color schemes. -

Funny how the two most popular themes besides Classic Space can't be done right anymore because of the neon colors going away. I'd almost say that's a major part of the reason they went away. -
[Poll] What is Your Favorite Space Faction (1978-1999)
danth replied to SpacePolice89's topic in LEGO Sci-Fi
I'm somehow comforted that these results are almost exactly what I would have expected. Especially if you consider that the Blacktron vote is effectively split in half. Glad to see Ice Planet getting the votes it deserves. -
Lancia Stratos! Freaking awesome!

I know this location used to let you build your own. Now they have all the pre-builts (I want to say about 20 figures) numbered and behind glass. You tell the cashier which 3 you want and they get them from a drawer.
-
I finally made it to a Lego store and they were only doing "pre-built" build-a-minifigs. Which seems weird. Or is that just how they do it now? But I got 3 of the dark blue Classic Space torsos (on the old guy from Dreamzzz).
-
I don't get the point of using Classic Space torsos without the air tanks and without the proper helmets. Not many people want that.

LEGO is considering abandoning physical instructions
danth replied to danth's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Lego would absolutely get rid of paper instructions the instant they thought they could without hurting sales, but that probably won't happen for a long time. They'll still release trial sets without instructions, like some Mario sets and the "Mission" City sets, to keep testing the waters, and will probably never stop trying. But I think we're safe for now. How did you even see it? It was taken down super fast. I don't see how that would work. Wouldn't that require two different releases of each kind of set, one with and one without instructions? Logistical and cost nightmare. That leads me to believe the questions were meant to gauge how willing people were to give up paper instructions, and not seriously exploring the option as a real thing. You can't deny there is waste that can be trimmed without making anything harder. For instance, there are plenty of steps that have 3 pieces, thus proving 3-piece steps aren't too difficult, or Lego wouldn't include those steps. So we know we can combine steps with only one piece or two pieces. There might be exceptions for tricky steps but the vast majority of single-piece steps can be combined. We also know that you can have two steps on a single page. So why do so many pages have only a single step? It's just a waste of paper. If you combine single-piece steps and single-step pages, that cuts many instruction book page counts by half. Cynics or realists? 🙂 "Just kidding...unless?" Corporations literally do this all the time, it's standard procedure. Send up a trial balloon, then when you get the immediate backlash, pretend you never meant it. If it was anything less, they wouldn't have removed the survey so quickly. -
LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 27. Rumors and discussion
danth replied to Robert8's topic in Special LEGO Themes
The jetpack racer helmet looks awesome. Strong Space Police 1 vibes. I'd love to see that helmet in more colors. The Wolfpack guy is going to be hoarded. I don't think he looks nearly as cool as the original CMF Rogue. This new one is less than the sum of his parts. But people will want that shield and wolf. I like the harbormaster but I can't explain why.
