  1. I just realized. I think tiles on the edges with studs in the middle, like on the wings of 10497, look nice and polished. But studs on the edges with tiles in the middle, like on the new Renegade, look messy and ugly.
  2. Don't worry, you said the amount of visual studs originally. The responses are ignoring that. I think the studs on the new Galaxy Explorer look good. I think the studs on the new Renegade look bad. It's about distribution and balance.
  3. Pretty much how I feel. Glad I'm not the only one noticing.
  4. I'm of the opinion that all Lego Space was like that. The legs of Walking Astro Grappler, the wings on the Space Dart, the open catwalks of the Intergalactic Command Base. Et cetera. I guess my point is, I reject the argument that "The original Blacktron was the blockiest and most industrial theme to ever exist, so the remake has to look ugly". I know I know, nobody is saying that...except they kinda are. Implying it anyway. I would have preferred a sleeker, sexier take, but it's fine if others don't. Actually, that's a good way of putting it. I wanted sleeker and sexier. The way 10497 was sleek and sexy. I would even go so far to say that 18+ Icons sets should be sleek and sexy. This looks more like a 7+ set from an action theme. But hey. No stickers, great prints, and a new trans-yellow windscreen. Those are all major wins. I forget who it was, but I wonder if the guy who complained about the new Galaxy Explorer being too sleek and fightery likes this Renegade remake.
  5. Hey that's mine! Thanks! Comparing my MOC with the official remake, wow, they are just totally different takes. My left-side sensor is a fairly sleek, more gun-like design, while the official remake is just a chonky block. I think my forward protrusions are "industrial" enough but are not meant to look "heavy" or strong because the original structure was so spindly and fragile. But my landing gear suck and they're totally tacked on. I appreciate that the remake bulked up the protrusions to integrate landing gear.
  6. I do think it's interesting that everyone says this. And it's all based on exactly one thing, as far as I can tell: the Renegade's right-side extension that attaches to the cockpit was a somewhat flimsy build with gaps between the plates: The structure ends up being "girder like" I guess. And that fact has turned into "the entire original Blacktron theme had a very industrial aesthetic" -- which I honestly don't see anywhere else in the theme. It's literally just this one substructure, as far as I know. I never really thought about it before, but maybe the way the Renegade looks with the storage unit removed also contributes to the "empty/bare bones" look which translates into "industrial". Personally I think the Exploriens line looks way more industrial.
  7. Blocky and angular are opposites, aren't they? Also, I'm not sure we're looking at the same original Renegade. In the original, all the front bits are pointy. The cockpit has a pointy gun and a wedged slope to make it sleek and aerodynamic. Each wing had a pointy gun in the front, and wedge plates and slopes, again making it aerodynamic. Even the left sensor array was sloped, not blocky. The entire ship was pretty flat and sleek except for the rear area leading into the thrusters, which made the whole ship look fast. Even the storage unit is sloped, making it look less blocky. I would argue that the blockiness of the giant slabs housing the landing gear and front left sensor area in the remake are not present anywhere in the original. Not sure what you mean by "oddly shaped", other than it had asymmetry, but I agree that the remake is "oddly shaped."
  8. More thoughts after seeing more pics: There seem to be a ton of great console prints in this thing. But sadly the box design is missing the corner banner and the iconic laser grid. EDIT: Oh the laser grid is there, just very faint.
  9. I am pretty surprised at this. I was expecting a very polished/sleek looking design with disappointing use of stickers. But instead it's a disappointing, amateurish-looking design with perfect use of prints/grill pieces instead of stickers. All the functions are there. Glad to see retractable landing gear -- that explains why the main two structures of the build are big-@$$ honking SLABS of 8-stud wide brick. Replacing the small rover & central storage unit with a bigger rover is fine with me, especially since it means we're getting that helicopter windscreen in trans yellow. I'm kinda of shocked they printed the 1x2 slope console pieces; I was afraid they would regress to sticker usage (they way they did with the Medieval Town Square); glad they didn't! The use of a printed flag for the nose is sort of ingenious to get the correct 6-stud-wide shape, but I don't like that there is nothing underneath it to complete the sides of the "nosecone". I really don't like the wings. The yellow flags just floating above the wings looks like something you'd see in a bad MOC. I get that it's the Blacktron logo, but it just looks amateurish. I was expecting 10497-style wings. There's too much yellow -- another thing you see in bad Blacktron MOCs. Yellow lining the main cockpit is a choice...generally in Lego Space, the cockpit color contrasts with the windscreen color, so that the windscreen "pops". This is doing the opposite of that. And things that should be yellow, based on the original design, aren't, like the cones of the thrusters or the guns on the wingtips. I'm surprised there is yellow on the landing gear; it's visually distracting there IMO. I expected they might use the support girder piece where they did, but just slapping a single one on top of an 8-wide slab-o-studs doesn't really do it for me. The front left of the ship ending in a huge octagonal block looks bad. The thrusters are uninspired and look like afterthoughts and are too far apart. What is cool, based on what I see in the designer video, is that you can swap the thrusters with the cockpit & front sensor array, essentially flying the entire spaceship backwards. The alt build for the Alienator is hilariously bad.
  10. I won't believe this is real until I see it on Lego's website. Lego just...doesn't release sets this poorly designed.
  11. That has to be a fake right? It's so bad.
  12. This is the main question I have. It's Space, it's Blacktron, and I assume the design will be awesome for the most part. So I don't expect any problems other than stickers. If they use stickers for the main logo or the control console, that'll just ruin it. Maybe then can figure out how to use tiles for that stuff à la 10497.
  13. I'm always down for another Creator Castle set!
  14. You're missing the point. It's the specific color blocking. NASA shuttles are basically all white, with the nose and leading wing edges being black. The 2024 sets have a little bit more black on the wings than a space shuttle, but overall it's pretty close.
  15. I get it. The Interstellar Spaceship, and the ships from 60434 and 60429, all have (proportionally) larger wing surface areas with black edges, evoking NASA space shuttle colors. The Interstellar Spaceship might be the least shuttle-shaped, but instead shares the shape of modern stealth fighters. All three look pretty aerodynamic. The Galactic Spaceship is just different. It has two tiny wings in the back, and no real wedge shape like the others. I can't imagine it flying in atmosphere. It's definitely more "spacey". I think some people just need to be contrarians.
  16. I know right? I can't wait to see it.
  17. Anyone know what this is? https://www.jb-spielwaren.de/en/space-minifigures-series-26-as-a-whole-box-with-special/a-648662223/ I'm guessing custom printed figure with real Lego pieces? High res pics of the 2025 Galactic Spaceship have leaked on reddit.
  18. Is that because the new Classic Space helmet is thicker/wider than the standard motorcycle helmet (at least where the visor attaches)? Wait, I have both helmets right here by my desk. I just looked at both and yeah, I think the new CS helmet is a little bit thicker. If I put a visor on the CS helmet, the sides of the visor aren't parallel like they are on the motorcycle helmet. They're splayed out a bit. Wait, what about clone trooper visors? I don't want to dig mine out right now, but after looking at pics I think the clone trooper helmet is wider at the visor attachment point than the motorcycle helmet. Does this mean there are at least two different visor widths instead of a single standard?
  19. It'd be cool if they finally made a visor that truly fit classic space helmets! Or at least the new version of the helmet. I wonder if they could make a "reversible" visor where the bottom curve fits the classic helmet, and if turned upside down fits the motorcycle helmet.
  20. That black car looks a bit Countach-y.
  21. My guess is no minifig, unless it's some sort of realistic NASA concept robot.
  22. Yay! Three honest, critical takes instead of the typical sanewashing of terrible decisions by Lego. A breath of fresh air!
  23. Not really. Using this visor with the classic helmet means they really don't care at all about getting things right. This visor does NOT FIT this helmet correctly. There is always a gap. The bottom curve of the visor matches the curve of the motorcycle helmet chinstrap and many other helmets. But not the classic helmet. The visor looks terrible on the classic helmet. And this is now the second release of the Classic Space minifig without the air tank. There was also 40715 where the air tank was the wrong color. Each time this happens, it normalizes it and makes it more likely we won't get air tanks (or the right air tanks) with Classic Space minifigs in the future. The smiley I don't really care about as much, but on top of the other stuff, it's really diluting what it means to be a Classic Space minifigure. I mean, you're already accepting it, acting like it's worth it to get this and buy air tanks separately. It's not.
  24. The Tic Tac Toe set with orange and white space men leaked. It's horrific. No air tanks, modern visors that DO NOT FIT the classic helmets, and non-classic smileys.
  25. IMO, it's funny that the weakest part of the Jet Pack guy is his jet pack. It's such a simple and unexciting build. You'd think they'd make an awesome new non-Star Wars jetpack piece for him. His helmet is awesome though.
