  1. I don't want a suspended railway set. Also, in terms of actual labels, they aren't even railwsys.
  2. I think this once again demonstrates the superiority of the preformed hull pieces as a base for successful commercial pirate ship designs. When you squander so many pieces unnecessarily in the lower hull - even in a creator set - the result must be compromises made elsewhere. If the scaling of those minifigures is correct, this thing is actually one of the smaller pirate ships they have ever done.
  3. I am going to be the odd man out on this one, but I think the spirit of the original has been completely lost here. If it's approved, I hope Lego makes enormous changes to the design.
  4. Wish I could see the picture. Facebook/Instascam are kind of a no-go for me. *Edit* Used my wife's account; I agree with the above posters - the poor thing looks like it is missing a desperately- needed center section. I'll still probably buy one, but the brick-built sails are a nonstarter for me.
  5. Jesus.
  6. Sheesh. Pirate on pirate crime is the worst. Can't we all be friends and sink the good guys?
  7. Because the Imperial flagship has an enclosed lower deck, and is clearly intended to represent a more modern warship, I think the presence of a huge stern castle is jarring. It just looks wrong.
  8. Anyone else think this is the best ship they've ever done? To my eyes, the proportions are just flat-out superior to the Imperial Flagship.
  9. Any chance you'd be willing to upload an LXF for the mechanism in the power car? This is a really ingenious solution to the common problem of how to power 4w narrow gauge.
  10. I miss the Islanders. Pity it seems a little too colorful for modern Lego to tackle (though there is a small nod to them in the Barracuda Bay set).
  11. Amazing. Such a smooth runner, too.
  12. This is awesome.
  13. Sadly, the one order Lego confirmed has been sitting there unshipped since Wednesday. They won't reply regarding the second one that I paid for, but which seems to be a "phantom purchase." I totally understand that this is a rough time for everyone, etc., etc. - delays are acceptable. But if you can't bring a product to market effectively at a time like this, maybe now wasn't an opportune moment to release the set at all? It's very difficult for me to sympathize with Lego's struggles when they could have just as easily sat on the thing for a few more months and nobody would have ever been the wiser.
  14. The build itself is amazing. I sort of feel like the sails overpower the very slender hull... like if you were using a material closer to that of the Lego-brand sails, it might dramatically improve the thing overall.
  15. Good. Freaking. Christ. I often find myself wishing these forums had a downvote option. Because that post? Needs a downvote. I didn't think this thread could sink any further; skew anymore into pointlessness after that flamewar as to whether or not people had a right to hold an opinion on Lego's practices regarding Ideas sets. But I was wrong - there was a bottom, and you've discovered it. Keep your agendas out of Lego, please.
  16. Yep. It's amazing, but not so amazing that I could justify that expenditure.
  17. I am happy that we got a ship. I think it's a great ship (it looks a bit too "clean" to my eyes, but it is nevertheless excellent). I look forward to seeing the mods that people make to it. The base is very different and, IMO, a slight disappointment compared to the original. But it is still the best Pirate-side base Lego has ever released.
  18. I ordered 2 separately - only one has shown up in my order history. I'm waiting on a response from their customer support.
  19. I'm also a bit miffed that it appears to only come with a couple of cannons.
  20. I have mixed feelings. I bought 2 of the things - one for the ship, one for the base. I anticipate they will look very cool together. On the other hand, I'm pretty disappointed that the original ideas submission was essentially obliterated. This isn't what the guy produced at all - it is pretty much 100 percent a new (and, IMO, less interesting) creation by Lego. And that sucks. I mean, what the hell is the point of submitting polished models just to have TLG pilfer the concept alone and run with it? Why ask us to put in any work at all?
  21. As an American, I have never liked European electric or diesel locomotives - they always looked "off" to me. However, in terms of modeling, this is first-rate stuff.
  22. I feel like the streets would be more brown than grey.
  23. The use of the chairs is an interesting technique, though I am not one hundred percent convinced that the result is any superior to the typical slopes (whatever is gained visually by the slightly more gentle angle is - IMO - lost in the non-prototypical flat 'band' created at the base of the seat pieces). It also looks like it sacrificed any chance of creating a substantial interior. I think the car itself is really cool, though. I'm very impressed with the double indentations on the left side.
