Unfortunately, I have never owned any Pirates sets. But if they return, I'd love to get some and have pirates take over Brandonsburg for a day!

Is LEGO making way too many vehicles?
Driver Brandon Grumman replied to Lego David's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I have to agree with you on that. That's why I said one time that it wouldn't surprise me if a theme like City took one year to only focus on vehicles since it seems like they don't really pay attention to the buildings. I personally wouldn't mind because that means, I'll have more work to do in building my own buildings to accommodate the vehicles. Then the "too many police stations" argument could stop. But other AFOLs all over the world (not just here), wouldn't want it to happen because if that proves to be an enormous success, City may not do buildings anymore. So in a way, I also DON'T see it happening. Btw, I think you meant to say "vroom" instead or "wroom" in that sentence. LOL -
Themes LEGO should discontinue
Driver Brandon Grumman replied to Lego David's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Well I do have to admit that Lego does that a lot of times. When they bring something new in, they have to kick something else out. Or....they just don't try anything new in favor of what's proven to be quote on quote "successful". Most of the time, that's the case. But in the case of space related sets, I can tell you for a fact that isn't the case. I can say that for a fact, because I grew up when space sets almost ruled TLG. That would be from the late 90s to 2011. Yes, I do agree! We may want Lego to do certain things. If we don't buy, we just want to see it on the shelves. But as my good buddy @Vindicare once said, sometimes Lego doesn't consider certain things even worth making. So its best to keep our wants within reason. -

Or people packs. I don't either. City Space, Mars Mission, Space Police and Alien Conquest were all around while Star Wars was there. Plus Star Wars is more for TFOLs than KFOLs so they'll need space sets for kids along with Star Wars. -

Lego does what they want. That's how they do things. Other times, we don't get awesome stuff because there are times when Lego only listens to KFOLs and what they want to see. Sometimes when someone on Eurobricks says "You don't know the limitations the designers are under", that's usually one of the things to consider: The fact that sometimes, they only have the time to listen to KFOLs. Not us AFOLs. -

Yeah! Not really a fan of Flesh toned minifigs. I personally couldn't care less if they discontinued those. -

Is LEGO making way too many vehicles?

LOL! That's kinda been the running gag amongst the City fandom. Though if they put as much effort into other vehicles just as much as they put into emergency vehicles, people wouldn't think of it as a police state. Don't get rid of the emergency vehicles because those are needed. But what about tow trucks? (I've only seen one this year). Buses? (they only come in mega sets and every once in a while in their own set). Food Vans (ice cream truck and pizza van are good starts). I'd also like to see more race cars like the race car duel we saw this year. The last towing subtheme City got was in 2009. Tow trucks have been here and there since then. I would be honored to see another subtheme centered around towing - though I doubt it would happen. -

I agree! Lego does enough vehicles to make an outstanding profit so leave that to City, Speed Champions, Creator Expert and Technic. Creator 3in1 should stick to infrastructure such as houses and modulars. I said on another thread that Creator should take a wave or two to focus on houses and infrastructure. Creator targets a much older audience than City so fans may like it. I loved Creatir back during the age of affordable Lego housing. I wish those days would come back. Right now, I own every house made by Creator. -

@icm Exactly! Dragons was Ninjago's thing. They should've kept it that way. When I say vehicles, I meant with wheels. That's City's thing. Let us City fans have vehicles on lock. Sometimes changing something is just stupid and pointless. Right now, I could compare most of what Lego does with its iconic themes to the horrible atrocities that Mattel has done to Thomas. -

But must it be done by going against the origin of what certain themes are about? Notice how when Ninjago first came.....it wasn't about vehicles. It's not like City, in which it was brought up as a theme in which vehicles is a thing. -

Imo, Ninjago stopped being awesome after 2017. Recently, they've started focusing more and more on vehicles than Japanese action and infrastructure. -
German Toy Fair – LEGO To Increase Focus On AFOLs

@Toastie Ah yes! Takes much longer by train. Unless the entrance to the subway is right in the malls where the Lego shops are. No buses needed. Then there is my house, which is right around the corner from the subway. Walking distance to be exact. Trains run every three to five minutes where I live. -

Don't mean to brag, but two of them takes only a subway ride to get to. LOL The other one, I have to drive to. -
@jonwil No need to be challenging in your words man. I mean for Pete's sake, I've never seen police with jet packs. But they've got those in Lego City. He said mansion city set, but he also listed some other sets too that centered around a life of luxury. So I thought since Mayor Freck hasn't gotten his own City minifigure yet, I'd stick him in there. He may not live there, but he'd fit right in there with other wealthy nobility.

Mayor Freck could be there too.

Yeah! I do have to admit that boats are boring when you don't live near any bodies of water or simply don't want to run up your water bill. I guess you can pretend like they're floating by placing them on blue baseplates. But I don't see the issue with the helicopters. I guess children just love them that much. As for residential and houses, perhaps Creator should go back to their old "three houses in a year" system. -

As for themes like City, I actually don't mind there being a lot of vehicles. These days, there are more vehicles than buildings around. Though I would appreciate if City paid more attention to ambulances, garbage trucks, tow trucks and buses than they do now. I say those since medical, sanitation, towing and transportation are essential city services. They've already granted my wish for more civilian automobiles as we've gotten a slew of those this year.
