[MOC] Besançon Citadel (Vauban) Microscale
Louis of Nutwood replied to Pistash's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Wooow! Amazing work, man! It looks like it's floating! Wooow. And very accurate to the actual aerial photography. Very impressive build. Very impressive rounded slopes collection. -
That Minotaur looks goood! I like the angles of your castle. But I'm not so sure it would stand against that massive trebuchet. The trees are a nice addition as well, though they might need some reinforcing soon enough. Congrats on that huge army of Falcons, mate. Cheers!
-
Very Halloween-ish! Great build for a greater period of the year. Nice use of those flag pieces. Cheers!

Certainly not anymore! Hehe Nicely done.

Such an impressive work! I can see how much effort and care you've put into your village. And I can totally relate to the drive of expanding it to a point of no return. I love the fact that this is not a massive creation, but a village that grew over time, still preserving a rather small scale to the constructions. I find it to be much more charismatic and beautiful in this size, as it is much closer to what a LEGO set would be. The castle-keep has a very unique design to it. Very classical-fantasy. And the interior is beautifully decorated. The fact that you can access everything from anywhere is fantastic. The village is splendid, and i think it is perceivable that it was more well planned (considering the pieces used, mainly for stone texturing and the flooring) than the first bit. Which is natural, once you've been through the learning process of the first build. The fact that each house has a unique architecture is awesome. The rockwork is fantastic and the color choices are perfect. Love the chimneys and the well, by the way. Finally the chapel is terrific! The interior is outstanding! Such a small space, with such personality. The roofing designs are also marvelous. And finally, the pond with hanging clothes and the cart are absolutely great additions. Personally, I'm working on a village as well - that just like yours, it has been expanding naturally for quite some time, and I can understand how challenging (and rewarding) it can be to ADD a plate or two into a "finished" build. Really inspiring work. Congrats on the build. TRULY hope to see it expanding more. And finally: have you considered creating a story behind your village and townspeople? Maybe coming up with a name for the village and the background for one or two minifigs (a family dispute, or a love story?) can start another creative project for you and your kid(s). Keep it up, mate! Can't wait to see another plate next year.

Veeery intimidating! Great work with the head piece and the add-ons to the wings. I especially like all those spikes. Very threatening. I also always felt that the original head was too friendly. Great work!
-
This is gold! Both the dragon and its bed of gold, of course. Amazing work. Very fluid motions on the posing dragon. It is massive! I love the color choices using black, brown and shades of red. It adds a lot of texture and movement to the whole build. Plus, the scales (size and skin layers) on the beast are incredible! Outstanding job. One of the most impressive dragons I've seen. Cheers!

Excellent work is this smithy, Sir Grover! First of all, I love the fact that you do have a micro perspective of the whole village of Prenmôr. I encourage other builders to do the same (me included), as it adds more knowledge of the living environment in which we are building (maybe having a sole topic to add only micro-scales of all our villages and cities, as a glossary). The roof certainly stands out, as a lot of people mentioned. Great tile-work. Very impressive. But the stonework deserves mentioning too, as it is very well done. Adding the inverted slope prior to the bluish-grey slopes when starting the roof is a well thought solution to add more design and depth to this unusual architecture for a blacksmith shop. The hinges on top are awesome too. The chimney is great too, though I would have added another round of (maybe black to add some impact color) studs to show some soot and grime. The animals give a lot of life to the build. For some reason I feel that chickens always come along with forges. Don't ask me why. I do believe a larger bush of grass or some foliage would add even more life, though. The use of wood is great and balanced. Using the door as part of the roof is intelligent too. Congrats! I was hoping to see the interior, and I'm impressed. Sooo much stuff (built stuff!) in this tiny space! Outstanding job, mate. I love the forge, the arches, the materials. Also, the light from inside the forge - is so cool! The glowing hot iron bar is terrific, too. Ah! And nice minifig posing and head-choices. Finally, it makes me very happy to see how much effort you've put in the backstory. I felt it to be very informative and emotional, especially when adding Alis as an apprentice blacksmith. I do hope to see her grow and develop into a master blacksmith. Great work, overall, Sir Grover. Hope to see more of it. Cheers!

Book III Challenge IV: A Stop on the Road
Louis of Nutwood replied to Eoin Wallace's topic in Guilds of Historica
Nice build, Sir Wallace. Seems to me that this Inn is packed with nice ale. It amazes me how you managed to include so many minifigs in such a small space. And great bar furniture, man! Good to see the crown standing proudly in the top shelf. Cheers, mate! -
Very cool and intelligent mechanics. I like the color scheme, but I would recommend some bolder color to stand out. It's a great design for the coming holiday-Christmas time, and I'd love to see it with mixes of white, red and green. The roof is great! And I totally admire how you furnished the interior. Nice build, mate.

CHALLENGE IV: Category B: Autumn Garden
Louis of Nutwood replied to Aurore's topic in Guilds of Historica
Lady Aurore, I'm always excited to see your gardens flourish. I can see you are keeping them well. Congrats! I'm sure that in no time, you will become the most famous herbalist in all Avalonia. I might have heard some garden-keeping requests over a marketsquare on the way to the southern plains. Make sure to drop some business cards. Very clever use of parts, here. The diversity of flowers, plants, herbs you bring to your builds is impressive. And way to go using those crown pieces! Great work, fellow wanderer. Cheers!- 13 replies

Book III Challenge IV Category A: An Axe Throwing Agreement
Louis of Nutwood replied to mrcp6d's topic in Guilds of Historica
Great entry, fellow Mitgardian! I like the rockwall background, as it is all angled, fitting well in the picture. The columns are beautiful too. I also like the throne and the additions of barrels and built-targets for the competition. As for the story, I must say that the art of axe throwing is in the northern blood, thought from generation to generation over centuries beyond count. It is a great manner of getting people to get along and the practice tends to make them stronger for the eventuality of a battle. Good to see that sports are playing an important role in this reign. Good luck! Cheers. -
(MOC) The Elvan Seaport of Elvadion
Louis of Nutwood replied to Bricksnaps's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Oh, wow! This is incredible. It’s not everyday that you see an Elven depiction of a village. And that makes this gem more rare and outstanding. I love the color scheme, and you excelled of the fortress architectural design. The angles are incredible and the round towers amazing! Mind-blowing build. Cheers! -
Ooh, my! That’s a cool looking horse! I’d definitely open my gates to such an incredible construction-gift. Nice color scheme. I like to detailed on that massive wall. And that gate is sweet! Cheers for the build.
-
Man, what a cool looking mill. I love the color scheme. The green roof being my favorite part. The round shape is amazing and the torn black canvas adds a nice touch. Great build, fellow builder. Keep it up!

What a nice example of storytelling. I admire your effort in sharing such detailed and well-thought piece of your story. I love the fact that everything started when lady Gisela decided to go to a concert abroad (I imagine noctys would play something close to metal-melodic-bard-tunes?). It’s nice to see the city expanding. The building depicting the fortress foundation is amazing! And even greater to see your party growing by example, rather than by force and mere recruiting. I imagine that’s how small nations (should) become great civilizations. Honorable mention to the straw roof in the house, that looks impressive. I love the pig-pond of dirt and the different shades of brown. The concrete used on the fortress foundation and the shades of blue in that clear sky. Awesome story, excellent vignettes. Keep up the great work!

Prelude: The Winter of Despair
Louis of Nutwood replied to soccerkid6's topic in Guilds of Historica
Nice prelude! It certainly puts me in the mood. Tensions are rising, and we must cope with our despair. By building. Awesome use of the long-past builds, you’ve made, Isaac. Even though I’ve seen them before, they never cease to amaze me. Can’t wait for the next Challenge. Cheers! -
Impressive harvest, Zilmrud. I keep my comment that as you keep sharing other angles of Zamorah, I grow more and more fond of the city. The use of snot in the base is spectacular, yet the shape has something unique to it. The shade between the cropped and uncropped parts of the field and beautiful too. The bits of wood are also super cool! Keep them coming, mate. Awesome additions, here. Cheers!
-
Fellow traveler Eoin, I can see you are improving. Each build shows more of your skills than the one before. Lovely little chateau, with great exterior texture. The uneven base might be your best so far. The natural elements are fantastic too. I love the path, the rockwork and the trees, including the chunks of snow spreader all around with precision. Though I must agree with the upper comments as the grilled tile might not be that suitable for the snow. Minifigs are great and the interior is fantastic. Keep up the great work. Skol!

Felllow builder, What a great build, with an inviting and interesting story. The factions are very well created - unique colors, faces and accessories. I'm looking forward to hear more about how Ulfgang's story, and to see its progress conflicting the power of Valholl. The fort (or gatehouse?) is very well done. Seems accurate in your description of using prisoners to quickly put these defenses up. I love how the logs are unevenly positioned. And they fit well with the wolfpack shields. Beautiful work with the landscape and those trees. I only hope that whenever I find these gangs on my travels, I'll be well received with ale and bread instead of pikes and arrows. Perhaps an agreement with the council of Valnötsträd could be in order to protect the roads in the southwest of Mitgardia. Great MOC, mate!

Ah, sir Grover. Your comment is always so very warming and welcome. I surely appreciate how you carefully analyse one's MOC and extracts little thoughtful details out of it. I tilted the plate under the chandelier and felt good about doing so - but thought "is anyone going to notice this?", and then you did. Thanks, Sir Grover, for your always analytical and caring evaluation. As a phenomenal storyteller that you are, it's great to hear your thoughts. It cheers me that you liked the structure of this little chapter. It also makes me happy to understand the photography is somewhat improving, as well as the story composition. Sir Grover, thank you for the kind words, mate! Hope to see your next MOC sometime soon. Cheers!
-
Super cool build! I love the color scheme you’ve been using. The white dots of snow are perfect and very well found in Mitgardia. Great to see more animals (or flying beasts) around and that beautiful yellow and green banner flapping with the wind. Finally, very inspiring backstory. It is really an inspiration to see so much thought into a considerably small construction. Keep up the good work, Lady Aurore. Cheers.

Great build, man! I love the color scheme. Great use of different colors and textures. The natural elements such as the terrain, the vegetation and the rockwork are very well done! And the orc hut seems accurate for an orcish clan. I find it cool that you used those big white teeth (mammoths?) in the entrance. Great work!
-
Very cool, mate! I love the feeling you’ve put into this scene. The scenery is great! Very dry. And the addition of the boned carcasses makes me wonder what came before them. I like the watchtower, and the colors you chose certainly match the terrain and location. My only suggestion would be to vary a bit more with the brown slopes. I normally try to mix both round slopes and regular slopes of different sizes for a more natural look. Also dark brown and reddish brown can add more shade. Awesome work, man. Looking forward to see more from you.

Thank you, good sir Kai. Your comments are always welcome! The melting frost in the northlands near the Bay of Storms and the burning of candles and fires must be responsible for such muddiness. Plus, the Summer Joust makes us think outside the box, and I’m pretty happy with this muddy dungeon as well. It will be part of a larger build, so let’s see how it goes. Cheers!
