[OL - FB] A necropolis for Acropolis
evancelt replied to Ross Fisher's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Me too! I use an Iphone 12 Mini. Been playing around with this app 'Manual' that lets not-top-of-the-line iPhones shoot pics in RAW digital negative format. Seems pretty cool and I'm able to reduce noise post-photo much better than with straight-to-jpg compression. My wife sneakily instagrammed my process for that Traffic Jam build. The ring light is mostly diffuse, but still causes some direct light reflections. Put my iPhone in a tripod on the Aurelia attack build, but I'm not sure that turned out any better than my handheld shots. -

Very cool - thanks for sharing. I feel like my ability to stop weird direct light reflections off tiles is hit or miss, so might explore something like this until I can justify a nice camera like in Ayrlego's setup -

Great idea for a build @Ross Fisher! I love the inclusion of the various gray "statues" inside, and the table has some interesting supports Little details like the gray stadiums on the outside wall add a lot What is the black material you have in the background of the photo? Is that garden burlap to keep out weeds? -
I was reading a review of the new Medieval Blacksmith set and see that the apple tree uses them as intermediate branches before some travis bricks: Gonna have to give that a try!

[Esl-FB] Ténotclaxcans are going to war
evancelt replied to Tezclatipoca's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
I agree with @Professor Thaum that the two affairs are simultaneous since they are decided at the same time. I think it is important to remember what @Bregir said about Montoya having the ability to call off all offensives underway. He has that ability until the next MRCA deadline... This attack on Aurelia is also a reminder that there is a state of war between Corrington and Oleon across the Brick Seas already, even if the matters in Terraversa are currently a point of focus. There are many other settlements in the Brick Seas -

I didn't comment on this one earlier - nice build! Some great up-close-and-personal interior shots -
Looking good, @Pdaitabird! I like the SNOT edge. Is that a tarp or IKEA bag underneath? It works well for water

[COR ETTC] Vanilla Sorting Plant, Jameston
evancelt replied to Ayrlego's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Lovely build! I really like the bright yellow mixed with the bright greens - really helps concrete the setting as a hot/tropical place. I like that same shutter technique from the last Jameston build. It looks good here too. The inverted round 1x1 plates under the roofline are fun. I have some non-TLG yellow masonry profile bricks that would fit right in here Excited to see the builds for the next parts of the vanilla process. -
I figured they didn't have any palisade walls to clean in a temporary camp Yes, a kitchen would be a good addition! I thought about reusing that tent from the divvying up orders build as a field kitchen in the background, but decided to keep this one smaller. Something to build in the future! Will have to try the trunks as roots, and also experiment with them as a gnarled mess of branches / thorns

Some fabulous headgear! Nice build. I like the plants growing out of the side of the base - will have to play around with that myself! -

No real reason other than I could because I added some white inverted slope walls to the back corners - this meant the supports were no longer structural. Probably would have been good to do them all leaning or none leaning for consistency, but was still experimenting! Yeah it's great in small doses! Back when I was a snow scientist I spent a winter in a cabin making daily snow measurements - the snow kept piling up and the windows needed to be dug out weekly following storms! -
Thanks @Captain Dee & @Kai NRG!

[OL-Troop] 3rd Cuirassiers Company in Eltina
evancelt replied to Bodi's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Yeah those sabres are rad! I ended up giving those BrickWarrior ones (left) to my bluecoats, and using the BrickArms ones (middle) for my redcoats. The BrickWarrior ones are more curved with a thicker blade -
Very nice! This looks lovely with so many great details. I love the little bell tower

Interesting minifig combo, Bodi! Those horses with the moving back legs are great. I love using them for action scenes Is it a hockey rink or something? Does look sleek and cool -

Nice minifig combos, Bodi! Also like the terrain and ruin of a building -
There are 4 musketeers here - so it loses its magical trinity? Thanks! As Ayrlego mentioned, it was pretty hard to research this island as a lot of the action there took place years ago (some images are no longer functioning!). Was helpful to have knowledgable CORs and ESLs to ask for help! Thanks guys Thanks! I saw the well recently on a castle build and thought it would fit well here. The muzzle blast was fun to put together. There is a trans-red 4L rod going into the fez piece of the field gun and then there octagonal web and ice cream pieces are on the rod Thanks! Excited to see this extra help...soon! Yes, lime is scary. It makes me immediately think of the Simpsons. So to make it more subtle (less Simpsons-esque), I added the other greens and reddish-brown. I tried to keep the ground to lime, reddish-brown, bright green, olive green, and dark tan. Normal green only entered in as vegetation to keep the ground bright. Fun to use little 1x1 reddish-brown and lime tiles in the ground. Excited to see your in-process MOC!

The PoTC officer torso is nice too, but it is very vibrant with the blue! I like that the classic admiral torso is a little more subtle. I opted to give Allcock some gloves. Does he normally go gloveless? Anyone have tips on how to make those elephant tails look more natural as branches? I have 8 or 9 of them. Maybe putting them all on a tree would make it look like a gnarly mess (in a good way?)
