  1. Fingers crossed it’s released before the 16th. This would make an awesome Fathers Day gift.
  2. Wow! I really hope the LM rumor is true. My dad is a huge space fan and I know he’d love to have a Lunar Module to go next to the Saturn V Ideas set. If it’s minifigure scale I wonder how they’ll handle that. Generic minifigs or will they actually model them after specific astronauts?
  3. Which is weird, because even if they were going to be released August 1st (still no confirmation on that), there’s a bunch of sets that just got listed that are released that day. Kind of weird, and means we still don’t have an official US release date from Lego.
  4. You’re right, the chocolates were filled with love potion from one of Harry’s admirers (and allowed to ferment way too long) the mead Slughorn poured out after he neutralized it was what was poisoned.
  5. It’s definitely not just you, I’d love a DH wedding version version of the Burrow as well. Partially for the minifigure variations and partially because since the Burrow was only ever done in the 2010 wave (and done fairly well) I’m not sure how much they could properly update a remake without basing it off a different movie. I’ve heard it sold very well. And didn’t it win an award? I remember seeing an announcement that the Hogwarts D2C, the Great Hall, Wizarding World cmf and the Creator Rollercoaster all won different categories in some Toy Awards thing.
  6. If I may throw my hat into the ring of speculation/wishlists: - Grimmauld Place: with a new cleaned up version of Sirius, Harry, Ron, Hermione, Kreacher (with custom head) and TONKS! (Maybe with Remus as well, depending on the price point). At least two floors, with a the Black family tree featured on the upper level. - Grawp in the Forbidden Forest: the main build would be a brick built Grawp, with Minifigures of Harry, Hermione, and Umbridge (her outfit from this scene is notably different from the bricktober pack) and if we’re really lucky a centaur or two. - The Astronomy Tower: the Clocktower set shows that Lego isn’t afraid to shake things up a bit, and since this is technically a wishlist I’m going to go with a Order of the Phoenix them on this set. Minifigures would be uniform versions of Harry, Ron, Hermione, Neville, Ginny, Luna and Draco (because we’re notably lacking in uniforms with the 2019 wave) as well as Dumbledore and Umbridge (and perhaps some others, depending on price point). The build itself would be 3 or 4 levels, with the observation platform part at the top, the DA configuration of the room of requirements at the bottom, and an office (Umbridge’s probably) in between. Perhaps it’s just because I’ve been spoiled by the pictures of the new expecto patronum set, but I’m really hoping for some more patronuses to go with Harry’s stag. New sparkly trans blue versions of the rabbit and terrier molds for Luna and Ron, as well as a new otter mold for Hermione seem within the realm of possibility, and while the horse mold getting the sparkle treatment for Ginny seems less likely, I won’t discount anything after the 2019 wave reveal. - Borgin and Burke’s: part of the 2011 Diagon Alley set, despite being on a different street. If the micro scale gwp is anything to go by, this dark little Knockaturn Alley Ship had no place in future Diagon plans (good, I prefer Weasleys’ Wizarding Wheezes anyway). It made a nice spooky stand alone set back in 2002 though, and definitely could again, with Draco (in his black suit), Borgin, Fenrir Greyback and Bellatrix Lestrange as minifigures. - Horocrux Cave: Harry, Dumbledore and some flesh toned skeletons. Lots of trans clear pieces and flames. - D2C: Diagon Alley: based off the format of the micro scale gwp. Spanning multiple movies it would include the Twins in thier shop, Lockhart in the bookstore, Harry, Ron, Hermione, Ginny, Molly and Maybe Ollivander and Hagrid. If Gringott’s is included then goblins would be necessary, but I can also see Lego saving that for a stand-alone based off Deathly Hallows (even if they don’t they’d better still make a Dragon escape set). I’ve left out Privet Drive and the Burrow, mainly because I’d prefer Deathly Hallows part 1 versions of those for the better minifigure options. And since this has become so long, I’ll save my thoughts on the CMF for later.
  7. That’s basically the reason Wormtail doesn’t have his own wand, yes. In the Deathly Hallows book it’s stated by Olivander that he was forced to make Wormtail a new wand after being kidnapped by the Death Eaters, so Wormtail definitely doesn’t have his own at Voldemort’s resurrection (hence using his master’s wand to kill Cedric). I’m not going to complain about more wands though, I might be planning something with all the spares I’m getting. In certain cases, we’re getting more of the books here than we do in the movies. I’m thinking specifically of the stag patronus, which only gets an outline in the first run through of the time travel shenanigans of PoA. When we actually see Harry cast the spell later it’s just waves of light with no animal form present. That cuts out Harry’s realization of what Prongs stood for, and Lupin’s confirmation is similarly cut from the movie. And yes, I’m still salty about all of that. I guess that’s one of the reasons I’m so excited to get a proper stag patronus in LEGO form (plus it’s shiny).
  8. I don’t think it’s hate so much as so that so many of the other sets are really spectacular. Yes this is clearly the best version of the Knight Bus yet, but we’ve never gotten a patronus or a Yule Ball scene before and Hagrid’s Hut is so much better too. The Knight Bus just so happens to be a set with limited scope in a wave where the designers really cut loose with all the others.
  9. I think it’s possible that there are 2 days worth of food (that turkey is pretty huge). And while we do know all the minifigures by name, there are 3 we haven’t seen yet (I’m looking forward to Flitwick). I’m definitely looking forward to adding to my micro scale set up as well (a tiny Gringott’s dragon? Yes please) and given how the husky dog makes regular appearances in the City calendar, I think there’s a decent chance of getting Hedwig as well, even if she isn’t on the box art (she is a snowy owl after all).
  10. True enough, and I definitely looked over the contents of the City calendar before I bought it last year. I’d also consider checking beforehand essential before buying one for a kid. But since I know that a Harry Potter calendar is a must buy for me no matter what, I figure it will be fun to go into this year relatively blind just for the thrills.
  11. Well since we’re doing our personal set rankings... 1) The Clocktower - the unique minifigures are more than I could ever imagine us getting in a set, and more importantly the build looks fun. All the Harry Potter sets are day one buys for me (whenever day one might happen in the US) but when I’m finally sitting down to start building this will definitely be the box I open first. 2) Hagrid’s Hut - I have 2 out of 3 of the old versions, and both 2004 sets that included the old Buckbeak, so believe me when I say this blows them out of the water. Plus a solid minifigure lineup to round out the set. 3) Beuxbatons Carriage - I think I’ve already said that I’ve been wanting this set ever since they didn’t make it the last time around. The great minifigure selection is just icing on the cake. Comes in just behind Hagrid’s Hut because the build looks simpler and even 2 Abraxans < Buckbeak. 4) Expecto Patronum - That stag patronus, need I say more? Also comparing the new Sirius to the old 2004 version makes me weep with joy - we are truly blessed. 5) First Task - Really wish I could put this higher, because I love dragons as much as Charlie Weasley, but the disproportionate legs just look off. That being said, it still looks like a fun build and I like the fact that they include all four champions. 6) Knight Bus - This could go either way with the Horntail honestly. There’s not much new to do with a set so simple that’s been done twice before, but I ended up impressed that Lego did manage to improve on previous offerings. The side opening access is really great and vastly increases playability compared to previous models. 7) Rise of Voldemort (aka the Graveyard) - the subject matter is just meh for me. The build does look like it has some interesting secrets, but ultimately just feels like an excuse to give us certain minifigures. My interest might be piqued if we get visual confirmation that Babymort is included. I’m not going to try and rank the advent calendar compared to the sets, because we pretty much know all we’re getting with each set, but we only know a fraction of the calendar. Not to mention a fully formed set is different from a series of mini builds anyway. Lego should be putting up a very spoiler-y image of all the advent calendars’ complete contents when they put them up on thier website, but I’m going to try and be good and only let myself be spoiled by what I already know from the description and box art. I want to enjoy the surprises every day in December :). It’s a fantastic year for Harry Potter Lego all around!
  12. Yeah, it’s a lot like the Hogwarts Express last year, we knew the sets existed but no one heard even a whisper that one was the carriage, and while there were rumors that one set would be the graveyard most people thought it would be the higher priced one. But also like the Express last year, it’s definitely a really great surprise.
  13. No offense but Lego hardly needs to ‘attempt’ to get more girls into Harry Potter - it’s always had a really strong female fan base. If Lego thinks they need to give us ‘girly’ sets to get us interested they’re barking up the wrong tree. Although speaking as a woman who’s been collecting the line since they first came out, there’d definitely be some excitement if Lego actually started giving us more of our favorite characters - finally getting Fleur and Maxime is amazing, and I can only hope they follow it up by giving us Tonks next year.
  14. I honestly don’t get people saying that Harry Potter doesn’t have any staying power beyond the 5-6 and 7-8 waves. I mean, Lego has been skimming over certain things on purpose you know. Just think - last wave we were noticeably missing: - Troll attack - Forbidden Corridor - Chamber of Secrets - anything to do with the polyjuice scene This wave we’re missing: - Shrieking Shack - Werewolf Lupin - Drumstrang Ship - the Second Task And that’s not even counting the Burrow, Privet Drive, Diagon Alley and Hogsmeade, all of which feature in the later movies and could appear in the next two waves, but also might be skimmed over as well. It’s hard to say what we’ll see next year, but movies 5 and 6 each included thier own configuration of the Room of Requirement, and since we’ve only been seeing one large castle set per wave it’s likely either the Room of Hidden things or DA HQ will be skimmed over as well. My point is, Lego has given themselves plenty to work with if Harry Potter continues to sell well beyond the first four years, and if it continues to sell well beyond filling in those gaps - well by then the Great Hall and Hogwarts Express will have been off shelves more than long enough for people to want new versions. Bold of you to assume that another CMF isn’t already in the works. I suspect we might see one as early as next year. After all, with the notable exception of Luna, all the Harry Potter figures in the first series were based off movies 1-4. It wouldn’t surprise me in the least if a series based mostly off movies 5-8 came out with the 5-6 sets, just like the first series came out with the 1-2 sets.
  15. I’m not really surprised we didn’t, since trying to attach things to the ends of the new wands would be tricky. It sounds like there are some play features that make Voldemort ‘rise from the dead’ though, which might explain why the set is called ‘The Rise of Voldemort’ as opposed to the 2005 ‘Graveyard Duel’.
  16. You can see the dormitory set up in the bottom right hand corner of the box art. It looks a little like the Newt’s Suitcase set, in that instead of a completely different alternate build it’s an alternate configuration to show a magically expanded interior. It looks like it has two levels, and the lower one has a small eating area which includes a tea set. Because most of the budget for the Marvel sets was eaten by Disney’s licensing fees But seriously Endgame is kind of the end of an era, and Harry Potter is actually the perfect example of a theme where Lego strangely got cold feet when budgeting sets for the final installment.
  17. Yeah, I honestly thought the two versions of Hermione and Sirius were going to be my favorites from this wave, but the uniformed Fleur really blows them out of the water. I love that new hat mold so much, and I thought we’d have to wait for another CMF to get it.
  18. Oh this is amazing. Definitely glad I woke up to this! I’ve wanted a Beuxbatons carriage since the first GoF sets came out all those years ago. I even tried to make my own (all middle schooler me had access to was a box of basic bricks, it didn’t turn out well). I’m so excited we’re finally getting one, AND those glorious uniform hats to boot! I’m also relieved that the graveyard set turned out to be the smaller of the two. The higher price point works better elsewhere, and clearly the graveyard is still amazing even at the lower price (plus it will have a smaller footprint compared to the old version’s sprawl) Just loving these additions to the wave.
  19. I agree. I still haven’t seen any official word from Lego on which areas might be getting the later release, which is poor form on thier part in my opinion.
  20. Officially the only release date we have is June 1st. We don’t know exactly which countries are getting an August release because technically we haven’t been told by Lego that anywhere is getting an August release.
  21. Not saying that the staggered release dates don’t make sense, but I’m still going to remain skeptical until there’s some sort of official announcement from Lego, since the press releases haven’t mentioned anything but the June 1st release so far.
  22. Here’s also hoping that they’ll eventually give us something a little more official in the Halloween theme - it was a major factor in the books after all, and several of the Halloween events made it into the movies. However, we might have to wait a while, since the best scene I can think of to really go to town on with the Halloween spirit is the troll attack from Sorcerer’s Stone, and it could take a couple of years for Lego to loop back to sets based off the first films.
  23. Yeah, especially since it looks like the alternate build is the Griffindor entrance. But it’s cool that we’re getting a new sorting scene, the 2001 version is a nice little set and it will be fun to do a side by side comparison.
  24. That’s looking pretty good! And I’ve got to agree with you, the biggest issue with the Horntail from the new set is either that the head is too small or the legs are too big. The proportions are all wonky. Yours is already looking more balanced.
  25. Just saw a picture of the minifigure and build for the Star Wars Build Your Own Adventure Book on Instagram. Fingers crossed that means the Harry Potter one will be revealed soon too.
