  1. I mean, if you take out the Riddle headstone and cauldron from the 2005 set, there’s pretty much nothing to indicate that you’ve got a Harry Potter set. It’s just a fairly nice generic graveyard. None of the other builds from that set resembled anything from the movie, they just added them to pad the size. This time around it’s a small set instead of a medium one, so they limited it to just the headstone and immediate area as shown in the movie.
  2. I mean the fabric reflects bluish grey tones in the right light, and if you mess around with the light balance of the movie stills you can emphasis it? But watching the clips the robes in them pretty much look black. It’s enough of a difference that you can tell they’re supposed to be made out of a different fabric (with with stripes of black velveteen or something else with less reflective quality on the cuffs like graduate robes) but I doubt most people who watched the movie would say it’s anything but black (because it’s supposed to look like the fabric and detailing is different, but the overall uniform is the same)
  3. The thing is though, as important as he is, he’s only in a limited number of the major action scenes. For all the prancing around he did, he only got included in 2 of the original 2002 sets. The big one of course, was the Chamber of Secrets, which is one of the locations that got passed over last year. Basically, there are plenty of characters that are getting sidelined because they didn’t appear in the scenes being depicted - so it’s a really good thing we’ve got the hope of another CMF. And always keep in mind that if the theme continues to do well they’re likely to come back and do those scenes like the Chamber. (In retrospect, we might have been a little spoiled the first time around, when the generic castle sets just went ‘shove all the most important characters in there - who cares if they were ever in scenes together’) Honestly, I can’t see them mixing up the two movies in one set like this, since they seem to be leaning into depicting very specific scenes. I’d guess the HBP characters you mentioned might have a good chance of appearing elsewhere (like a Borgin and Burke’s set). Meanwhile, a full fledged OotP castle set would include Draco in uniform, possibly with some Inquisitorial Squad friends (we’ve only gotten one Slytherin torso in the reboot so far, easy to forget we’ve been deprived of those too when they were the only non-Gryffindor uniform we got the first time). Also, while we shouldn’t get our hopes too far up, the Great Hall has 10 minifigures, and the repeated uniform torsos and plain legs on the student characters would facilitate a higher minifigure count. (Not including Ron and Hermione is an interesting idea - if they went with that and the set was the patronus lesson it would be great to get those two in uniform with their patronuses for their cmf variations)
  4. Honestly, this is one of the reasons I want a DA based set, great opportunity for uniformed Luna. Given that we only got the Gryffindor house robes for the first CMF, I highly doubt we’ll get the other house robes in another way. Young Newt from CoG would be a fun way to get Hufflepuff, and Draco is the obvious option for Slytherin (although young Leta could work too). The only issue is that since Luna is the main Ravenclaw student character from the movies (and I can’t see them doing Cho again), that means that we basically are limited to either Ravenclaw robes or Luna’s fabulous lion headdress in the next CMF (whichever isn’t included shall be a true loss).
  5. Also worth pointing out that Moody really doesn’t change his appearance much, while Umbridge has about half a dozen outfits in OotP alone. Also, Umbridge gets herself mixed up in some actual action (busting up the DA and the iconic forbidden forest scene) while Moody (well, Crouch Jr) is notably taking a back seat from the truly high action parts of GoF (although now that I think about it we were totally robbed of kilt and spoorn wearing Moody in the Yule Ball set)
  6. Yeah, there are some OotP sets that wouldn’t have her (fingers crossed for Grimmauld Place) but there are several sets that would. In particular, I’m pretty sure she has outfits different from the bricktober pack one both when she’s taking down the DA and during the Forbidden Forest scene (fingers crossed for centaurs )
  7. As far as an Astronomy Tower set goes I think there’s a high chance we’ll get it next year, but I also think there’s a high chance that they’ll do the same thing they did this year, and make its minifigures and settings themed after the other movie in the wave. Doing a DA themed Room of Requirements in the bottom of the Astronomy Tower lets them 1) get out of making play features for/depicting a death scene on the box art (following the trend of the graveyard, you can recreate the death scene if you want, but only if you get the characters in a different way), and 2) take advantage of their last chance (for a while) to give us lots of uniform torsos in a set. Plus, while the room of hidden things was an important part of HBP, I doubt anyone really wants to tackle the piles of junk in there at minifigure scale (they certainly didn’t in 2010 despite giving us the vanishing cabinet and, ostensibly, the room it was in).
  8. Hard to say, on one hand, the later movies are more complex, on the other, the single summer wave has been working well for them and an increase in plot complexity and characters doesn’t necessarily mean an increase in locations for sets. As for the CMF, I think there’s a good chance we’ll get another one next year. The first one did really well and with no Lego movies schedule for imminent release that means there’s theoretically two slots for licensed series. Although I do wonder if it will be another August release like the first series, or if they do split up the 5th and 6th movies into two waves whether they’ll make it the 1st/2nd cmf of the year to coincide with a winter/spring wave - the single wave/August cmf format is more likely but it’s fun speculate.
  9. Yeah, the advent calendar is coming out in September because that’s when all the advent calendars come out - no reason to try and coordinate any set releases from those themes with their advent calendars.
  10. I love how this thread was just plodding along, waiting for more people to get thier hands on the sets, and the pics of babymort finally dropped and we all collectively lose our minds.
  11. To be fair, from what I know the July release and bricktober pack were handled poorly last year because Toys R Us went bankrupt and Lego was apparently scrambling to redistribute the various retailer exclusives they would normally have gotten. That being said the current silence on the US release isn’t making me feel much better about this year.
  12. Hmmm... I presume the Lego store will have the sets at the same time as the retailer exclusive release. Nonetheless, I’d still prefer to hear these things through official sources as opposed to Lego just stringing us along.
  13. So the City summer space sets have returned to the US S@H website (Coming Soon - June 23rd), but still no sign of the Harry Potter sets. Honestly, at this point I don’t even care that much if they come out in 2 days or 2 months, I just want Lego to actually give us a confirmed date like they have with all the other summer sets. It’s the lack of official information that’s grating at this point.
  14. Aw yeah look at that ugly little bastard - all I ever really wanted from a recreation of this scene
  15. Yes, but those are smaller than their movie counterparts (and even when you scale them larger round, fluffy or squishy things fare pretty well). The problem with the bowtruckle would be that scaling it larger than the size it is in the movie kind of nerfs it’s cute factor and makes it less recognizable.
  16. The bowtruckle doesn’t have quite the same cuteness/recognizability factor as the niffler though. Plus, the scale for the porg/Bb-8/other usc style characters would make it considerably larger than it actually is ‘in real life’ (Noble Collection tried that with bowtruckle plushes, my local barnes and nobles never restocked them like they did the nifflers). A to scale buildable bowtruckle would make a fun little gift with purchase set though.
  17. I think we can all agree that even if they never come back to fill in those gaps there’s still at least another two years worth of sets, and you’re right, the sales figures that we’v heard of would suggest that we should be optimistic about the theme continuing even further. The thing is I think most of us were around for the first version of the Harry Potter theme, or at least those who weren’t can look back and see what happened. The first three films had plenty of tie in sets, loads of characters and locations at all different sizes and price points. Then Goblet of Fire came along, and we got only four sets, and several fan favorite characters weren’t featured despite having major roles (that’s why we were so excited to see Cedric in the cmf last year and Fleur in the sets this year). All we got for Order of the Phoenix was a single castle set, with Umbridge as the only new character (despite how much of a fan favorite Luna is). Then the theme just went dead for several years, with no new sets coming out for the 6th or 7th movies. The 2010-11 waves were exciting for those of us who’d almost given up on any more Harry Potter Lego, and it felt a lot like a reboot given the number of remakes there were. Then the theme was canceled after just a wave and a half of sets, with them only barely touching on Half Blood Prince and only two sets from Deathly Hallows part 2. There were never any sets made based off the first Deathly Hallows movie. So if anyone’s pessimistic, it’s probably because the history of the theme has given them reason to be afraid that Lego might throw away a perfectly good theme again. We probably don’t have anything to worry about, but the Internet does seem to breed cynics.
  18. Ah yes, the age old debate, and one of the reasons why I largely confine myself to the Harry Potter threads. Now that you mention it I do remember being a little surprised by the porg, since most of the large brick built character sets they do are robots/droids. The porg kind of stands out as a brick built animal that’s fairly large and detailed. For that matter, if the Stitch figure wins the current Lego Ideas vote it might make them consider the popularity of the brick built creature format.
  19. Promobricks on Instagram posted a picture of the sets on shelves at the German Legoland that put them out early. The box on the lower shelf is angled so you can see part of the parts list on top, but it’s cut off before any part of a minifigure is visible. And it’s possible it’ll be shown with visor down like they are everywhere else on the box.
  20. Considering he remains hidden in blankets for most of the scene it does make sense (and kinda lets them get around the fact that he’s naked)
  21. I think at this point we just have to wait until someone who’s bought and built the set posts pictures. That might mean some who got it early from the German legoland, but we might still be waiting until June 1st.
  22. I mean, hopefully they wait that long. The Fantastic Beasts movies should give them some mileage, and hopefully when it comes to tv series they’ll go for a Marauders prequel before remaking the originals (not that I wouldn’t be interested in a remake of the originals in a format that would allow them to tackle things like SPEW and such, but at least wait until special effects technology has advanced enough so that the movie will have a different feel).
  23. Isn’t the Porg part of the UCS? Harry Potter doesn’t currently have any regular sets like that, but I can see it bringing in more people to the Fantastic Beasts side of the Wizarding World line on cuteness factor alone. That being said Fantastic Beasts will sadly always have a smaller fan base for various reasons, so it’s difficult to guess where that part of the theme is going.
  24. Fun idea, but I have a sneaking suspicion that just like Ginny was notably absent in the first series, Neville will take a back seat in series 2. On a separate note, the City summer space sets have vanished off the Lego s@h website. Still no sign of the Harry Potter sets. The ask I sent in over a week ago asking about the release date was never answered. Who knows what’s going on with all of that (I suspect not any of the Lego s@h employees).
