Fantastic, I like the simplicity using no electonics. Great work any plans on making instructions? I have a kid that would love to build this.

[WIP] Volvo EC350E (Cancelled)
Kio Liex replied to JLiu15's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Fantastic, I am really looking forward to seeing this. Mostly because I really like the Volvo machines but also because I am also planning on doing either a 250, 300 or 350. -
Personally I really like that they are making an adapter. Regarding you wish on a more generic connector I would like to share my though on why they are doing as they are (I'm an electronics engineer and struggle alot with connectors in my daily work). I can't see that it would be a good idea using an connector like the Micro-USB, it is way to fragile to be used in toys. Here are some of the requirements I see that a LEGO connector shall fulfill. Compatible with LEGO bricks. Can be staked. Have power (9V). Have stearing signal (I guess this started with IR PF). And maybe the most important, it shall have a durability like no other connector. High number of mating cycles. Withstand abuse from children. Good transition to wire (this could be better). Looking at the above and the history of powered LEGO I can see an evolution as the wish for more demanded a new connector. Does any one remember the old motor and long round motor that used the large batteries? I am happy that we have the IR PF now, those old connectors was not durable (but they where easy to fix ). Reasons for the new connector might be (this is only what I think): Now LEGO wants more of the Mindstorm functionality in the main Technic parts and that requires a new connector as the old PF connector can transfer the signals used by the sensors. Either the PF part or the new sensors might be damaged if connected to the wrong system. It might just cause confusion if you can connect a new sensor to e.g. the IR receiver and then it does do anything. LEGO has identified durability issues with the current design and want to improve this. I think the reason for the new connector is all of the above.

[MOC] Tow Truck MkII
Kio Liex replied to Lucio Switch's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
WOW that is impressive. Really cool how many functions you have in there, but I guess that it is a little easier to fit when going to that scale. Maybe I should do that one day. Do you know the scale? 1:12 maybe, based on the tires? -
Don't give up. Like the other say build with what you have. Belive that eventually it will be done, that is what keeps me going. It is not uncommon than it build a certain part of a MOC 10-20 times before I am happy. But again it is okay to have a long break, I stopped with LEGO when I was about your age but then I started 3 years ago (I am 38 now). LEGO can give such a good understanding for 3D understanding, drawing and instructions interpretation, mechnical functions and much more, all while it is fun and frustrating.

Lego Motorized vs Manual
Kio Liex replied to jorgeopesi's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I prefer the motorized model and I really like the extra weight, if the model is build to carry it properly. I try to teach my kids (6, 10 and 12) how to play with them in the right way. I do have plans to build some models that are manual but this is only because they are relatively small. -
Fantastic that you keep working on it. I have also experienced that some ideas seems impossible to implement, especially with my Volvo front loader, but after several redesigns and test it somehow turns out okay. My kids think that I am a little crasy rebuilding the same part/idears 10-20 times, they can't really see the small differences. At the moment I am struggling to get room for the motor and the shifting parts for a 4 speed gear box in my current MOC, a Volvo FH truck. One thing I do that helps me is to put the project a side if it seems that I am not having any progress, then after some weeks I take a look at it again and then it seems a lot easier to continue. Keep up the spirit.

Really great work. It is impressive how realistic it is, with all the levers and functions. Sorry for asking (I have not read all the posts), but are you planning on making instructions? What about using the big LEGO Star Wars models as driver? I belive that they can be modified to look like a worker.

Really amassing MOC and great that there is instructions, I'll be getting them in the future. Do the instuction include the Claas Quadrant 2200RC?
