  1. The discussion of the upcoming DC web-show is veering too of topic; at least when we know next to nothing about the supposed sets that will accompany it. Let's focus more on the confirmed sets for now.
  2. By the sounds of it, those are fakes. Most likely custom digital printed figures, often times passed off as the valuable real thing (I've been tricked by that too, it happens rather often). All you can do now is work with Bricklink to get refunded and/or dispense the deserved feedback to the sellers. Best of luck--from here on out! As this has been rather a straight-forward answer by myself and Robianco, I'm going to go ahead and close this topic.
  3. All this talk about blog drafts and counting down days is off base for this topic. There's lots of excitement for this set, but patience is indeed a virtue. Let's please focus conversation on Lego Dr. Who, not conversation about what day it is.
  4. Seriously sweet wolf! I love the sharpness and angles he has. The headpiece also transitions well into the system body because of this. I do think he could actually be a bit more extreme, with longer sharper fur and claws, but this is great nonetheless!
  5. I've been unable to find a Banshee, which is rather annoying because she may be my favorite one. I keep mistaking her for the Specter; and I've got three of those now. So I just decided to buy one online for $5 with free shipping. Should be worth the extra two bucks. Yesterday I also accidentally snagged a second witch. As well as a second Fly-man. I'm surprised to hear the witch is hard to find or distinguish considering the size of her hat. Anyways, now I'll only need the cheerleader and I've have a full set!
  6. Hah! So awesome--great job!
  7. He's most often referred to as the first vampire, even officially by Lego. Plus he doesn't show any implications of being a non-vampire other than being in a studios set (which were just designed that way to facilitate the Lego Camera theme anyways) The only studios monster that can appear "human" is the werewolf--he's the only one with a human face (well and the scientist). Does anyone consider the first Frankenstein or the studios Mummy non-monsters because they were in studios sets? The first Spider-Man minifigure came from a studios set--does that make him not Spider-Man but an actor minifigure? The argument that the Studios Vampire as not an actual vampire is just as ambiguous/weak as claiming Basil is one. The latter is implied, but the former is confirmed by Lego (through books and whatnot).
  8. I'm a bit iffy on the new supposed Dalek design. I don't think the Dimensions one is perfect granted, but I might like it more than this new one. I'm not super set on either color (although I wish we could get gunmetal ones, but Lego rarely uses that color for system pieces), but what I really don't like about it is the lack of a complete black band around the bottom. I think it looks strange the there is only black on the sides, and there's a huge noticeable gap right in the center. Still, I won't pass up any Dalek, or Cybermen, or Weeping Angel (are we getting those? Can't remember. I really hope so).
  9. Very interesting--thanks for bringing this up! I'm biased towards this being not true, because the 2002 Studios Vampire is my favorite minifigure. And I always have and continue to feel that he's the first Lego Vampire; the king, the master vampire above all others. That being said, your argument, while relying largely on implication is rather good. It's not hard for one to assume Basil is an actual vampire--Lego seemed to go a long way to imply that without saying it (for whatever reason). And although I don't really consider Lego Racers to be a strong source--it is undeniable that the alternative face implies his vampire status. That and the whole motif makes the suggestion clear. Still though, the good thing with Lego canon is that it can be really whatever you want it to be. So although Basil is a lot like Vlad, and both have connections to vampires, I'll be keeping the Studios version as the tip top of vampires in my mind.
  10. They also seem to confirm that the figures use short legs... Suddenly way less interested in these...
  11. I've finished the Story Campaign, and it was very good overall. I did feel there was an excess of Boss Battles (You fought Vortech some five or six times), but the meshing of dimensions/properties was very good. I think the best/most fun level was perhaps the Dr. Who one, which sits in the middle of the story. It was very heart-pounding, and the Weeping Angels added a game feature not seen before (lights going out, time limit etc.). Worst Level for me was the Midway Arcade. I was born in the 90's, so none of that old computer stuff was doing anything for me, especially the Dungeon Maze level which was so terrible I basically cheated and used the spectacular power of the Witch of the West to fly over the maze, skip the ghosts and Minotaurs (which you seriously needed to hit like 30 times to kill, and there was literally hundreds of them--other shadow creatures I think were impossible to kill), and jump to the end. It was so awful. Granted, if you are just using the Starter Pack (As I was, with the exception of the Oz Pack), it can get monotonous towards the end. You use the same characters for everything, and at the end the same puzzle types, while always seeing things you cannot do without some other character you don't have. One of the very noticeable downsides of a Toys to Life game, for Lego, is the fact that there's no character collecting. You have to buy the individual characters to add them in game, and even then the roster is nothing like the 100+ characters we are normally accustomed to. In the 'old' games, you would always see a character and then assume you could later play as them. Not here--although you see Sauron, and Riddler, and Two-Face a lot, don't expect to play as them anytime soon. This I think is an unfortunate downside that contrasts with the standard Lego game formula. So with just the Starter Pack, the Campaign plays out more like extended Cameos. You see Dr. Who, he talks to you, and then dumps you off on an Adventure that he doesn't take part in. Same with Ghostbusters, Back to the Future, etc. Chell doesn't even appear in a cameo. It's like your just piggy-backing on their worlds but they're not included unless you show some cash to play as them. Not that the cameos are unwelcome--there are across the board very good ones--but they really make you want to play as that character immediately. That being said, after the Campaign there is still the individual worlds, which are very hit or miss. Oz is just spectacular, it's so amazing--the music, the colors, the everything including Kansas. Middle Earth too is very nice, but it starts to come off as more of the same, even though it's a vastly condensed map than the one from the other Middle Earth games/maps (and geographically, it's seriously screwed up). On the absolute miss is Gotham...or Metropolis...or supposed Atlantis (I couldn't find that, but apparently you can get to it somehow). They meshed together what appears to be almost direct copy and paste areas from LB2 and made some horrible hybrid city that is utterly ugly (not in the good Gotham way) and utterly boring. The Lego Movie location too is incredibly boring. An issue with some of the 'mini' open worlds are that they are simply boring, with nothing going on (this was a big problem with LB3). Bricksberg was ghost town. All of those negatives however don't take away from the fact that I absolutely love the game as a whole. Now I just need to go out and get more packs!
  12. Hoth Bricks over on Flickr has provided the first image of our upcoming Angry Birds Sets/Figures: As a forward...this may be a good time for us all to remember the wise words of Thumper...if you can't say something nice, don't say nothing at all. So I will promptly stop talking then.
  13. Ooooh! This game is awesome! Today I picked up the Starter Pack and the Oz fun pack--so far well worth it. I did have to wait some two hours for my PS3 to get all the games downloads/setup process to be completed though, granted it's a huge game. I've been playing for a few levels now, and the hilarious meta references may be worth the price of the game itself. There does seem to be an excess of boss battles--I fought three (or four, it was a lot), in one level alone--and that being said you don't seem to spend much time in an individual location very long (at least level wise). But right now, I just had to take a short break (hence this post). Dr. Who fans (like myself) are in for a huge treat--I swear the Weaping Angels will give everyone heartattacks! The tense music! The lights go out! I'm just yelling at the screen for Batman to jump out of the way! Drop dead scary and satisfying. There's never been that terrifying feeling from a Lego game, so it's really notable. There's always been an effort to tone down situations like this--but instead it feels like your one of those unfortunate red shirts from a Dr. Who episode; and your end is not pretty. On a side note, if you do get time killed by an Angel, it shows an even scarier kill shot from first person point of view--for some reason. Crazy! Try it!
  14. Must have been a Christo! His figures are great; but his shipping speed, not so much. I tend to avoid buying or Bricklinking from out of country for this reason (well that and conversion rates). Although I've never really had anything go terribly wrong. Granted I might start buying from across the pond...those Germans and their unlimited supply of olive green flower stems are making me super jelly!
  15. Wow, those Alexandre Boudon Designs are just so amazing. I'd kill for that Journeyman Shepard figure. I absolutely love seeing Lego design sketches, because they really show "what if" designs; some being way out there and others shockingly close to the finalized product.
  16. Being the focal point of one episode (out of 574) doesn't mean it's iconic... --- Regardless, debating the iconic status of the Simpsons family sedan vs. Echo-whatever doesn't belong in this thread. Let's steer the conversation towards strictly Ghostbusters shall we?
  17. Dropping my two cents, I'd be utterly shocked if a 4600+ piece set of a garage doesn't include a car. I honestly do have trouble believing why this set would require so many pieces in the first place, considering the interior is largely an open space for a vehicle and the exterior is fairly plain. So if it doesn't include a vehicle--what are all of the parts being used for? 4600 is seriously a huge number of pieces after all. It also doesn't make sense for Lego to ask someone to spend $350 on the Ghostbusters HQ--expecting them to then spend $50 on their car (assuming that set is still in production).
  18. Short but fun game. Thanks for hosting Danny and JJP!
  19. I wouldn't be surprised by that. Granted I'm getting the feeling that a lot of the negativity steams from people who don't even own the sets... Regardless, I think that the Mansion is arguably the best set of the wave. The Mystery Machine conceivably edges it out due to it's superb design and nostalgic value, but as a whole I think the Mansion is nearly perfect. It has play value too--which I don't really think warrants it's negative views because they don't at all dampen it's exterior appearance. That being said, I'm really happy that Lego actually went the route of a full fledged theme (even if it ends up being just one wave), rather than settling for one set. Let's be honest, Scooby-Doo could have been completed with one set, the Mystery Machine (had it included the whole gang) ala Ghostbusters or Back to the Future. The fact that we even got more sets, plus monsters, is simply awesome.
  20. Looks cool. The torso/body is great--but like others have said, the cowl doesn't work so much. I was hoping they would spring for a new cowl like the one from LB3, but I'm not surprised they went this route. I don't think it looks bad nessissarly; we'll just have to wait and see what it looks like on an actual minifigure. The Batmobile looks great--I would have been shocked if we didn't get that too.
  21. Nice build. It's great to see the daily lives of Superheroes; as there is not an opportunity to save the day everyday after all! Although I'm not sure if antagonizing those villains with chicken-legs is a good idea!
  22. That shouldn't be necessary. We have a whole dungeon full of wizards that we force to create only the bestest of tags--it just takes some time and occasionally the right motivation.
  23. 'Badges' which are formerly called Tags, are given out by the staff to accomplished members at their own discretion much (like member titles). They are occasionally given out as contest prizes, or simply awarded based on merit (or for any number of reasonings). You can read more about Tags here.
  24. If it's that imperative, you better make the case on Bock now. Since that seems to be who you are suggesting is faking a role. Why else would you state there's false claims and then suddenly change votes to Bock?
