Aquazone builds
Renny The Spaceman replied to sander1992's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
These look great, the geometric, SNOT look of the terrain really makes it feel like 90s LEGO promo material -
That's the NWH interpretation, the original film does a Jekyll and Hyde thing where he genuinely wants what the Goblin does but is only held back by repression (which unlike in the literary classic he's won over by his alter ego and only kills himself by accident) you could make broader points about like even with him choosing to be this way it thematically perpetuates stereotypes but that's a different conversation. I feel like you don't get what I'm saying, I never said Two-face was in the DCEU, and I never said that if you're gonna make a murder Batman he only can kill the named villains, but if he only kills the goons (always in over the top, gratuitous ways) while never bothering with his marketable villains (Harley, and most notoriously Joker but worth noting many others are hinted at or appear depending on where you're cut off point for that continuity is) that unintentionally tells a story. Like he tried to kill a monster man but like that's pretty clearly a separate case to the years he spent as the Punisher in a silly hat before changing.

2025/26 Castle [wishlist/speculation]
Renny The Spaceman replied to GreenhouseBricker's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Well it's not any two months, it's November and December. The articles mention it's the holiday season in particular that it's being delayed to not interfere with. That's when big LEGO sets go the most so they don't wanna interfere with that. Right, having read the articles they don't even show the full CS figures, just the air tanks. The only ever broadly say the Vending Machine parts so I think either all the printed parts are excluded and it's just the new colour parts or they'll all be there. Castle specifically won't be excluded or there would have been more of a division created. That's plausible, I think PAB becoming more well known has lead to it being handicapped the past few years -
Is he? If memory serves: Kilmer murders Two-Face and no-one else, Bale kills Liam Nieson and Two-Face again, doesn't Keaton engineer the circumstances that kill Penguin and Joker? I think Batfleck is the only Murderman to keep it to the unnamed mooks. Which is a natural issue of "cinematic universe" storytelling. I think (though this is biased by me being more a film fan rather than a Superhero fan) the Raimi Spider-Man films get the balance the best, like he gives all the villains a chance at redemption, he tries talking all of them down or subduing them non-lethaly but like he's not gonna lose sleep that the evil billionaire who murders for fun or the weird Incel goo monster get themselves killed.

2025/26 Castle [wishlist/speculation]
Renny The Spaceman replied to GreenhouseBricker's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Sorry, what's the SFW? That's insane I'm really surprised they'd admit that as it shows the more PAB becomes recognised as a way to get around ridiculously paywalled figures the more LEGO would push it. CS torsos didn't stay for long when the orange ones went up if memory serves, they might just jack the prices of those torso because they know they're collectable. You're right, it could be the team fought but was only able to get them to budge on the spacefigs -

Haha, there's a whole thread for that

I've said this before but the big issue with a superhero who kills is 9 times out of 10 it makes them seem way more incompetent because the worst offenders they always non-lethaly detain but the generic goons get massacred. Like in what world does thief #3 die but Batman doesn't snap the Joker!s neck and free us all from further Leto performances? I wonder if subconsciously that's the issue, when your villains are one and dones like in the pre-DCEU films, sure have Batman kill them, but in a case where you're trying to do an endless cinematic universe where these villains stick around forever it makes the audience more aware of the artificiality of the world because, like when you do tons of fake out deaths it conditions the audience to know there's no stakes, when we know a billion sequels are planned and these characters are too profitable to go it makes us more aware the drama is forced. Making the no kill rule so prominent was to keep around villains but it winds up masking that because it's done by introducing unique drama. Also it unintentionally validates the "Batman just beats up poor people" schtick because all the prominent, well off mob boss villains get sent to Arkham but the goons get their brains splattered against the wall. So in short Batfleck should have killed more people

LEGO Sci-Fi Ongoing - Rumors, Speculation, and Discussion
Renny The Spaceman replied to Lyichir's topic in LEGO Sci-Fi
True, I did kinda expect the simplistic aesthetic and was happily proven right but CS is an outlier there as it's whole appeal is in that simple aesthetic. I think if they were gonna translate this one so loosely putting it more in line with Icons castle and letting the designers make their own Ship free from the past was the play -
LEGO Star Wars Set Discussion 2025 - READ FIRST POST!!!
Renny The Spaceman replied to MKJoshA's topic in LEGO Star Wars
I don't think it's production costs, Minifigures are cheap but I think it could be licencing costs. I could be wrong but I remember reading the way the Star Wars licence works is each figure is a different Licence, like if they have a Clone Trooper and a Clone Commander they need to licence both of those designs separately so every different figure bumbs up the cost more. LEGO doesn't like putting in four identical figs, probably because the variation grabs Kid's attention more so they bump the cost -

I don't think it was impossible but I think it's notably less simple than the Galaxy Explorer. Not that I don't think the designers made some poor choices. The Cockpit is the main one for me as it feels like they chose that piece out of obligation or something as it's way to large for the kinda dinky build the set has. One like the Moc you sent would be better for the cockpit but the bigger issue is structurally the ship is weird and needs to be modular. It could have been done better but it wasn't as easy as the GE. Nah, it's fine, tone is hard to convey over text we've all accidentally phrased things in less than ideal ways before. I feel like I would have preferred (personally) if they were gonna use the cockpit they did that the set was upscale more and made the area where the buggy is installed in the original a more fleshed out interior. I think they're obviously locked into a budget but in that case the cockpit and the yellow underlighting is the big unforced error. But In terms of what makes the set harder is it doesn't have the same simple structure of the Galaxy Explorer. That set is just a big triangle with a sloping square. It's easy to upscale but the Renegade brings questions because it's build feels more shaped by the specific big wing pieces they used, as well as this you take things like how the cockpit is connected to the body with a plate deep and wide connection for the "neck" that's another thing to consider, do you keep it spindly or build it up to imply access to the rest of the ship, the additional flyers are admittedly quite awkwardly placed on the original in a way that works because of the CS simplistic aesthetic so translating that to modern day, even with the logo thing they tried looked off and so on. And the one most subjective, I admit, is the original Galaxy Explorer has an interior, I think most people like big vehicle sets to have space beyond the cockpit but I don't think you can really do that with the Renegade the body, to capture the shape at it's price point, has to be plate based and I feel that lends to it not feeling worth it's value to many people because the Galaxy Explorer is so fully featured and slick. It could have been done, but I wonder if it would have changed the ship too much in a way most fans weren't happy. But they're not happy now so maybe it's just me not having enough faith in the medium In a way the Galaxy Explorer was like the last Chopper out of 'Nam in terms of the 2020s issues with LEGO -

It might be, so dunno. Equally anecdotally I still see the Night Trooper and Mandolorian Battlepacks from this year and the last which have been discounted in the same way from shortly after they were released. Personally I think it's an issue with Battlepacks (designed to be impulse sets) no longer being in the impulse sets range. A kid can convince a parent to buy a 10 quid set, maybe a 15 while grocery shopping, they're not gonna manage the same with a 20-40 quid set, that's been the range Battlepacks lived in and I think the greed of pushing the price up is backfiring on LEGO long term. True, I remember the LEGO Catalogue description for the 2006 X-Wing made a big deal about him getting his first minifigure, LEGO does know ball Luthen needed Cass to get it to his best engineers on Naboo (Who ofc helped him rig up those explosives) the sets minifigure selection will be based on Boss Nass and friends trying to reverse engineer it (With Wedge on loan from a different Rebel Cell to test pilot it) Wuher actually used most of the money from the Landspeeder and selling the bar to make sure Jabba exclusively hired the biggest dipshits to be his security so the slaver would die horribly. The rest he used to falsify reports that the Ewoks were harmless Teddy Bears so the empire would pay no mind to them with they're man-eating nature being the Emperor's undoing putting an end to the Narkina prisons and their slavery. After this he met up with his long term best friend, Dexter Jettster and reminisced about the Jedi with him. The two opened a chain of combination 50s Diners/space bars and lived their lives in comfort -

This doesn't look anything like the set we're talking about? Like sure they could have made a symmetrical, completely differently shaped set that looks good but they also could have made a set based off The Nutshack. What is this meant to prove "there's a completely different MOC that captures broadly the same emotion as the ship, therefore there were no roadblocks relative to the Galaxy Explorer in terms of a modern re-release" Also, generally, I don't get why you're being so antagonistic with people who agree with you. We're having fun talking about a hobby here, no-one's "making excuses" some people just think differently to you. -

Definitely why it was controversial, no way you can do it and please everyone while making a structurally sound build out of modern parts. I never liked how bobbleheaded it looks, ever as it's going for 60 quid around here I just can't justify it, it takes up a lot of shelf space and doesn't look great from any angle IMO. I am biased though, I love ships with interiors, that are livable so the GE was always more up my speed than a 100 pound fighter craft -
I use them as doorstops, and throw pillows. think I'm at 13 Oh yeah, Jack's great at what he does, even if it's not my thing, okay is right, do you like that version of Superman? Detective J Corden Not prep time, he was thinking on the fly, which makes it even more realistic, he improved it and pulled through

Would make sense for the clone centric way the theme is run "there's a cloneless wave for this movie? Throw in a Clone pack in the wave" Once again, clearly they sell better than other packs, maybe not always but definitely as of now. Not saying she's the best bar keeper, though clearly Wuher's heart wasn't in the game, they sell him the speeder and boom, a year later the bars in Bea Arthur's hands. His calling is elsewhere. REAL. No-one hates Wedge, a unique privilege for a character, he 'll show up in something and get an involuntary hell yeah from everyone. Mad that he's not the go to secondary pilot in most X-wings. In a way Darth Vader's greatest contribution to the Rebellion may be letting him go on the first Death Star, no matter if it's Legends, Canon or an Ardman short that one decision is pivotal. I heard someone say in a way he's the ultimate Glup Shitto, insted of being an extra who's super pivotal to the universe through expanded media he's an extra who does important shit in the films but just far enough from the focus most forget. Most pilots did, like Dutch Vander or Dak, as did Dengar but Wedge is the most notable. Okay, the real answer is Carrie Fisher at the end of the holiday special but spiritually it's the shitty CG Jabba dance number that played 24/7 in the classic Battlefront (2?) menu -

Yeah, we can't know the specifics, LEGO definitely has better data than any of us the question is how they read it and implement it. I don't think the buildable, humanoid figures they do in licenses ever sell too well, I feel like it's the designers just being passionate on keeping constraction alive so they're constantly pitched with some slight change to make them work this time. You have no whimsy and joy in your heart, she's a powerful character with a musical number that can only be considered the second worst in the saga somehow I feel that'd be a bad decision by them, yeah, parents and kids will be confused and the kids will be disappointed when not all the figures included speak The first ever minifigure faceprints. used most famously on the classic space figures. Rebels, imperial officers and other more minor characters always had them in the theme's early days. Obviously there's no concrete data, all speculation, and obviously I'm not saying this was always true, if it is it's a recent trend. Maybe the Tie Bomber did well, I'm sure some less prominent OT ones do but I don't think that's the trend, or at the very least the sorta people who do pick those up would be just as or more likely to pick up a Adults Welcome display piece for double the cost where as kids gravitate to clones and Mandos. There are way too many 501st packs but, yes, I absolutely think clones out perform imperial battlepacks. Like, even discounting the elephant in the room there, we've discussed: Kids prefer good guy sets, they prefer customisability, the clones are more colourful which grabs eyes, even amongst all the 501st packs half of them have also have a loud orange colour complimenting them. I do not doubt clones sell notably better these days at all. As for the falcon, our last one was last year. I know not a normal one but I think LEGO considers it the place of one given that the 2019 one retired just before it released and this one is retiring this year when we're seemingly gonna get a new one next year. The falcon is an oddity because unlike the usual way these things used to go they kept the 2019 one on shelves for 5 years. It has had a shelf presence for half a decade. Entirely conjecture here but I wonder if the rapid release of the ones in 2012, 2015, 2018 then 2019 made them rest the ship for a bit, like it stayed on shelves so it didn't tank or anything but I wonder if maybe they decided to rest the model either until they could make some more substantial difference to it or if there was a small downward trend with later releases so they decided to keep it on shelves but wait long enough for a new one would get more people interested. Excluding UCS sets that Falcon had an insane lifespan for this theme, maybe it just sold exponentially better than usual too but that seems less plausible. -

See, I wonder if it is the best sellers are always the core OT vehicles (X-Wing, TIE, Falcon, Snowspeeder, etc) but the other downstream OT sets like A-wings, the 68 different pointy TIEs, the Rebel and Stormy battlepacks don't do as well as Mando/Clone shit. So when LEGO does something risky they start with the safest bets but in a regular wave there's always an X-Wing/Falcon, TIE, etc already on shelves so when doing the sets that fill up most a wave this decade they lean into the stuff that skews younger because, while a kid will always want an X-Wing, they'd rather have a Gunship or a Mando Army than like an Imperial Shuttle or Endor Rebel army John.L.Ego's plan to kill children in action yet again -

You don't? That's a massive one people always complain about in licensed theme, people complain a lot about "Star Wars figures don't get arm/side of leg printing while Dreamzzz does" too but dual molded legs I'm surprised by because they always are asked for on almost any figure. Just comes down to what sorta online spaces you go to I guess Their charm is unmatched, What was the last Star Wars figure to use the classic smiley, was it the Hoth Rebels in 2009? That marks the end of that era well Half of them are
