Late to this but honestly these are so high quality and professionally done in both the MOCs and photography that you absolutely could pass it off as official. I love that properly classic vibe of the old catalogues and backs of instructions so this was a welcome surprise to stumble across. Also points for putting the Demolition Dummy in space, something everyone on this planet has needed yet all of us where too cowardly to try

Unpopular Opinions about LEGO
Renny The Spaceman replied to Lego David's topic in General LEGO Discussion
No other minifigure has the innate aura and Sauce of the Demolition Dummy, unbeatable figure, any counter arguments are wrong -
I rewatched BVS recently and it's impressive how bad a lot of the acting is, Esienberg (genuinely infuriating performance, he delivers most every line in the exact same cadence then after each line does the same weird little "hmm" sound, it becomes maddening when you notice it) and Gadot were expected. But the one that surprised me most was Cavil, I remembered him being fine in it but the entire time I felt he was just growling out lines, never really felt like he added any inflection or intention behind how he said anything leading to him being way flatter than I remembered. Also, a smaller thing, he plays there being no difference between Clark and Superman in that film, one of the most insane cases of making people look dumb for not noticing it. Though that might just come down to Zack wanting them to be more similar

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Future Series Rumours
Renny The Spaceman replied to r4-g9's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Okay, how about this idea for a themed CMF: Demolition Dummy series, just the Demolition Dummy 12 times over. I'd be all over that -
Well clearly you yourself are woke then. You see the reason LEGO does more marvel than DC is marvel is anti woke (iron-man is friends with Elon musk, the villains are always people who want to improve society) and DC is woke so Lego (because they have taken their brain force pill) loves anti woke and hates the woke mob. Why is DC woke? Well just look at their characters, (The Woker, Wokea-dot man) point proven. LEGO should make more sets based on based anti woke media like they did with their minions 2 sets

Idk, we had a tonne of those sets in 2022 and 2023 and I think this year it was nothing. I don't feel they're going to do regularly released straight remakes again

LEGO Sci-Fi Ongoing - Rumors, Speculation, and Discussion
Renny The Spaceman replied to Lyichir's topic in LEGO Sci-Fi
Honestly I think gold is Leagues uglier than lime but I've already made like 3 different cases for that. It's no question it won though, it appeals far more to the people who don't already care for CS than any other colour could because gold is the colour of faux value with toylines. Guarantee you the idea of a gold CS figure has those annoying people who treat Lego like a stock market salivating so much they could drown a toddler. I'm probably speaking nonsense here but I'm honestly sick of these new CS colours because they're no longer really made to be used with Space sets, they're designed to be a highly desirable figure that costs far too much to make a proper group of among you CS ranks so you get one and leave it on a display stand. There's not a modern colour you could get now other than pink or brown for lower than 20 quid a pop. I wish they'd stop doing new colours and just make the ones we have more readily available whenever they wanna include a CS fig -
Sorry for the double post but idk how to reply to two quotes from different pages in the same message, it wouldn't work every time I tried 1 - Yes 2 - Yes 3 - Depends, the Tardis in that one lifestyle image did seem pretty damming but IDK how likely such a big branding deal would be done when despite all the talk about this being a big new beginning for the show there's no big increase in merchandising form Chibnall's era (We don't even know if the 3 Character options figures will come out, there was a rumour the Ruby one was Shelved a while back I remember) and despite the disney deal I've not really seen any big upswing in international relevancy like there was Smith. I admit though that last bit is anecdotal. I feel a CMF wouldn't happen now, maybe in time once the show gets more momentum but I feel a more likely option would be a mid range icons set of the Tardis like the ideas one or, more realistically a large build of it akin to the Telephone booth they do with at most two figures. Which is a shame, obviously a CMF gives more opportunity for more characters, especially as I imagine one would be like TLBM CMFs where 4 or 5 of them would be different Doctors as there a few humanoid characters who actually hold broad enough international appeal for LEGO to put in a CMF. If you could choose one character to put in a CMF who'd you choose? Come to think of it a big brick build Dalek could be an icons set in the relatively near future. 4 - Smith or Capaldi (both have far and away the most engaging performances for me, their doctors more than anyone are walking contradictions and the way their era's examine that is so endlessly meaty I find the most to revisit there) And while I struggle nailing down a favourite episode the one that's always in the top 3 for me is 'A Christmas Carol' It's got one of the show's tightest scripts amd all timer casting, direction, set design, score, pacing in a way that makes it stand as a near perfect hour of TV that requires no previous watches to get in it's entirety. That is as long as you can handle the CG sharks which all though the effect isn't great it's not like it's the worst in the world (The Henry Cavil Lipped Space Babies came 14 years later and are far more distracting), which is why it's my go to to show non-fans. It plays with such a overdone story in such a new way that fully breathes new life into it while also perfectly balancing an incredibly emotionally powerful story and one of the most overtly comedic Doctor performances in the show. The Ghost of Christmas Future scene is so heartbreaking and poignant that I fully consider it the show's best twist. Banger, proper banger it is

There's a difference in Non-fan on the street and non-fan though. The rando on the street likely won't be able to name much more than the Lasso of Truth and Invisible jet, the non-fan who is big into Comics or related media but doesn't care about Wonder Woman seems to VERY frequently finds themselves trying to defend an adaptation within some Justice League based media that's quite controversial with people who are specifically WW fans and when backed in a corner about it they post that panel. I mean the conversation we're having sorta reinforces that point, neither of us are Wonder woman fans yet when we discuss the idea of her being defined by being a Warrior this is what we both go to. From my personal experience when ever people get in debates over the characterisation of WW in Injustice, The JL cartoon or Snyderverse it's alwas that one panel and the one where she says "when I deal with my enemies I deal with them" being sent by haven't actually read her stories. TBC I'm not saying that not reading comics makes someone less of a DC fan or whatever, I haven't read any WW, I just wish people online stopped acting like they did to win pointless internet arguments. Not saying that's what your doing, we both seem to be on the same page as being Secondhandedly aware of this but not having experience with the specific stories ourselves. I think it's very clear though a lot of comics discussion online is people liking an adaptation and going backwards to try find comics or out of context panels to justify calling their preferred adaptation the definitive version of it, so when a character has a misconception like this that adaptations reinforce it does become an overpowering consensus in any fandom circles.

Unpopular Opinions about LEGO
Renny The Spaceman replied to Lego David's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Well yeah, ofc. Time's arrow neither reverse or holds still and all that, everything is temporary, we're all dust in the end we can never go back and all but I still don't really think that's a licensed V original theme thing, I mean every long running licensed theme has a significant percentage of it being recycled sets and the big ones are all based on nostalgic properties where a big, arguably the main, part of the appeal is that it'as a brand people grew up with. Star Wars, Harry Potter, Mario, Superheroes (this theme is 90% Batmobiles and Hulkbusters) Jurassic Park all share these qualities. Mario's not even through it's fifth year and we've had three King Boo Ghost houses, these are all based t varying degrees around going back to the old days, especially with Harry Potter, that's got no concurrent media to hide behind the did two sets for those awful prequel films and everything else is over a decade old nostalgia. Hell, Potter is also a prime example of fans begging for a theme to return because of their nostalgia for it. Not saying any of this is wrong inherently but it's very much the same. The difference of course being that an established brand is free marketing, which isn't really a "get with the times, this is what's in now" thing as it is more a tactical corporate decision. Not arguing it makes sense for LEGO to ignore that the funko pop route is more economical just saying that idea that one of these is any more driven by nostalgia or rehashing of the past than the other doesn't feel accurate. Once again though, the retreading old steps thing isn't what I want. New original ideas, the occasional throwback is fine, especially for anniversaries, but these themes shouldn't be the backbone of anything outside the some pieces of expanded media or merch (Classic Space is my favourite theme and even I want them to cool their jets with the new colours). I think all the recent Castle sets do show however that clearly both in quality and reception that the old type of sandbox themes can work in the modern day. It's not in the same way but neither is the way they approach Ninjago, or Harry Potter or anything the same as when they started. -
Yeah, I don't have a particular issue with that moment though some fans do, once again imagine if it happened to Batman we'd all understand the idea of him being put in that situation unnecessarily harming the character even if we may not all agree with that take. Especially if after that moment became the one thing non-fans knew about the character and influenced every version henceforth

Unpopular Opinions about LEGO
Renny The Spaceman replied to Lego David's topic in General LEGO Discussion
No-one is saying that here though, they're saying they'd prefer more original themes not bringing back old ones. You can disagree but this is the unpopular opinions thread, idk what's even the point of using a disingenuous argument like this. By posting here people are admitting they are in the minority on whatever argument they're making. My unpopular opinion here is I think it's weird how obsessed LEGO fans (and fans of all media now ngl) get with how brands are doing. Like obviously I get wanting them to do well enough to keep the lights on but aside from that I think people become too producer brained with this stuff. I don't need LEGO to be the most popular thing in the world and I think it's healthier to not become emotionally invested in the growth of corporations -
Well there's the issue. I've not read Wonder Woman myself but I have had many conversations with fans about it and the biggest issue they keep mentioning is how the character gets warped for the sake of contrasting Batman and Superman. The moment where she Kills Maxwell lord is very controversial for this reason and l can get why. According to longtime fans it sorta set her down this path she's in know with the Tom King run where every other line of dialogue is going "this is how you are different to Batman and Superman" and ignoring her actual character. The trinity is argued to be suffocating the character because it strips her of her traits to play better off Batman and Superman. Which I get not liking, imagine if DC officially decided to make Harley the fourth member, and then decided that she and Batman had too a few too many things shared so Batman was booted from Gotham and the Joker no longer gave a shit about him and fully became Harley's rival.

It doesn't? It's just what we're talking about here. LEGO did a weird thing and we are speculating on where it'll go, whatever happens to the set most people here won't care, it's just a fun thing to talk about

Unpopular Opinions about LEGO
Renny The Spaceman replied to Lego David's topic in General LEGO Discussion
See I don't think LEGO HAS to do all the licenses they do to adapt. Even ignoring broader examples like Ninjago or the LEGO Movie just look at how well the Castle sets they do now sell. They can still appeal to the adults they are mainly gunning for now without licenses BUT it takes more to do that because obviously when it's a LEGO original you can't coast off the popularity of a brand. LEGO's clearly adapted to the funko pop model of trying to appeal people already attached to brands. I think it's pretty apparent if you talk to or see anyone who has gotten into LEGO through the modern "Adults welcome" stuff that what matters most to them is that it's a LEGO version of they recognise from somewhere else, LEGO for Redditors and people with a 'pop culture podcast' essentially. Obviously there's nothing wrong with the sets or the people who like them inheritly but we've got to understand that the LEGO landscape has fundamentally changed here. For decades there were two demographics for LEGO the kids it was designed for and the AFoLs who would be thrown a bone with a UCS and the like. With the modulars and architecture and so on the AFoL centered products became a core of the LEGO brand and I think many of us still think with the mindset of this era, where every LEGO decision was for kids or us LEGO obsessives. That's not the way it is anymore. the main demographic for most all these new licenses isn't kids anymore. Kids are pretty open to original themes and always have been, it's for adults who have only a passing interest in LEGO but love various other brands. The sorta people who'd love a set for The Boys or Ready Player One or would generate those disgusting AI "guess which movie is made in LEGO here" videos youtube won't stop recommending to me. Sorry I feel I'm getting sidetracked a lot here, pretty much LEGO now trades a lot on being a vehicle for pop culture crossovers people can get behind and while many of us don't like it it won't change because it's what brings in a new audience, I think it has minimal impact on the spending habits on the two demographics that have always been here. So I guess be ready for the upcoming Ruthkanda forever or Free Guy sets -
I know all of that, but it's not really what I asked. Everyone knows 'who let the dogs' out, no-one is buying a 'Ba-ha men' spaceship set. Of course Pharrell is much bigger than that band ever was but the principal stands, how many of the people who like Pharrell are dedicated enough to buy an over a hundred dollar display piece is the question. Especially as the set isn't really related to any of his music
-
How dedicated is the Pharrell fanbase? I doubt this is gonna appeal to anyone else given the price.

LEGO Sci-Fi Ongoing - Rumors, Speculation, and Discussion
Renny The Spaceman replied to Lyichir's topic in LEGO Sci-Fi
The gold on works as contrast to the suits imo, gold logo on a gold suit would make it look really bland. Yeah 100%, even with the cand colours they're at the very least flat ones. Gold being a metallic shade just doesn't wor with the others -

I agree with this. I don't mind then doing colours like orange or purple as while they are modern shades they fit in with the aesthetic by being bright, distinct colours from the rest. The gold feels so tacky to me. -
LEGO Sci-Fi Ongoing - Rumors, Speculation, and Discussion
Renny The Spaceman replied to Lyichir's topic in LEGO Sci-Fi
TBF they already did a CS statue before. Interesting perspective, I personally don't see that myself. I think it would overpower the gold on the logo which works on all the other figures due to how it stands out from the rest of the uniform and thus make it look much blander. Plus I think metallic colours just sorta take away the simplistic charm of the CS Aesthetic. I couldn't imagine seeing the gold one siting in any of the sets and looking right while all the others would work (especially Teal) That's,of course, just my two cents though -
Latest impact of other themes on historic themes
Renny The Spaceman replied to Wardancer's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Probably the weakest out of all options, doesn't really fit with the themes aesthetic, the most inconsistent plastic colour and even if it doesn't win we'll inevitably get one later for CS's 50th or LEGO's 100th. I think any of the others is a better use of people's votes as they're less likely to be made of they lose. I'm personally on team Teal due to how it's both the most unique and would help Rock raiders fans make a Chief figure without breaking the bank. As for Castle I'm went with the ravens as I both love the bird and I think they have such a beautiful colour pallet. Though TBF 2 of them being never seen before factions make them hard to judge -
LEGO Sci-Fi Ongoing - Rumors, Speculation, and Discussion
Renny The Spaceman replied to Lyichir's topic in LEGO Sci-Fi
I think it's Teal or bust for me, gold really doesn't fit the CS aesthetic (also it's gonna happen inevitably for an anniversary if it loses) and the rest are just shades of astronauts that already exist. Also worth considering if Teal is chosen it may help the price of Chief come down just a little bit -
I like this headcanon, the Blacktron CMFs take a lot from both versions of the faction so I don't think one could've of neatly transitioned into the other. A separate headcanon I have is, while the original CS sets aesthetic slowly evolving into Futuron makes it pretty clear CS became Futuron, I like the idea that the more modern CS stuff from the 21st century come from more remote planets where the LEGOLAND Space fleet set up. They're all evolving and adapting to their individual environments leading to the differing aesthetics of the exo-suit to any other space set. I imagine these splinter groups all eventually make their way back to the galaxy at large and fold into the shifted status quo of post Futuron LEGO Space (Hence the Exo-suit crews potential meet cute with blacktron) bar one small group by a black hole or something experiencing major time dilation. They've made a new class of Astronaut called a dreamer (the purple one according to LEGO), who's job is to innovate new ideas. They innovated all sorts of new roles (hence the ever expanding roster of CS colours) the a reinforced Galaxy Explorer and stronger space helmets. They're all so proud of all they've done, thinking no-one else in space is as advanced as they are with their flying engines and pink suits, completely unaware that outside of their bubble space is now full of more extravagant ships, more humanoid robots and less nonexistent visors

What do you mean by that?
