[COR - ChIVA] An easterly wind in King's Port
Ross Fisher replied to Ayrlego's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Even a small-looking build from you is five storeys tall! Outstanding. Lovely details all over. Some nice parts usage, and a great build. I get slight MC Escher vibes... -
[OL - CH IV - CAT B] Silhouette's Umbran Cameos
Ross Fisher replied to Ross Fisher's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
@Maxim I @blackdeathgr @Kai NRG Thanks guys. Glad you like it. That would've been really cute if my build had inspired you to do that. These days we don't really need them because we have all the photos we could need on phones. Still, doesn't mean it isn't romantic. -
[OL - CH IV - CAT B] Silhouette's Umbran Cameos

@Bregir @Khorne Not sure thats the solution, but it did make me think. Maybe a pantograph? That way you don't even have to cut out the original silhouette. You can just erase it and reuse the page. -

It's a really lovely, realistic build. Appropriate for the islands. -
[OL - CH IV - CAT B] Silhouette's Umbran Cameos

@Capt Wolf @Bregir Thanks! Honestly, I have no idea. With a bigger light source and lenses you could probably project light onto it to reduce the size, but I can't see how you'd get it small enough. -

@Wellesley @caiman0637 @evancelt @Khorne Thanks guys! I'm glad it came together so well. Gonna have to rush my Cat D before all these bricks go into storage. -
"What does this have to do with the Order?" Canon François asked. "Not a damn thing," replied his secretary. "But it is popular." "And you think popularity should be our goal?" the priest challenged. "Not at all," Monsieur Gallo responded. "But a degree of diversification might help to support the Knights Treasurer somewhat. And this outlet seems blessedly innocent." "Hmmm," came the reply. "Tell me again what it is." "Monsieur Silhouette holds a patent for what he calls 'Umbran Cameos'; portraits of profiles in shadow. The setup is simple enough, and requires no more artistic skill than the ability to trace a line." The notary paused, to appreciate the interest on his master's face. "Because of this, they are relatively quick and cheap to produce, putting them within the reach of the common man. Suddenly sweethearts have something to put in lockets besides hair; imagine it!" "And you want to export them out here to fleece the commoners of Nola Mar?" the Canon asked. "For the good of the mission, yes?" Gallo responded, hoping that he had chosen his investment opportunity well. "Very well," came the response. "Take the money from our petty cash. I will be expecting to see returns before the year is out."

@JintaiZ Thanks for the highlight! -
A really nice idea for a build. I'd love to see more abstract designs like this.

[OL - FB] Nola Mar Knights Treasurer Chapter House
Ross Fisher replied to Ross Fisher's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Thanks guys! The roof actually wasn't too hard. I put the long ridges in place first, and then figured which wedge plate would mesh well with it. It did involve a bit of back-and-forth, but nothing too frustrating. I probably could've mathed it all out beforehand, but I honestly prefer trial and error. -
Very nicely done. A great example of studs being used proactively.

Oleon: Sign-up and Discussion, Era II
Ross Fisher replied to blackdeathgr's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Congrats @CapOnBOBS on a well deserved promotion. I'm gonna keep very quiet on this front myself, lest people assume I'm being rewarded for my imperious conduct... -
It's very flattering that you think so. In truth, it started with the barrack building. When it became clear that my plan for my storyline was going to clash with the way the war was going I had to develop a new storyline. And then when I didn't go through the proper channels with that, I had to do this build as my penance. I'm going to have to be more careful not to write my stories too far in advance in future!

I guess it might be like modern diasporas, where the minorities tend to be from groups that were marginalised in their homeland, and don't have a lot of love for their own country.

[OL - FB] Nola Mar Knights Treasurer Chapter House
Ross Fisher replied to Ross Fisher's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
I know! Maybe if the upper floor had been a single space instead of 4 wings? -
"Well," said the Canon, "it'll do." High praise, coming from him. The barracks were sturdy but comfortable, and large enough to serve the needs of a small chapter of the Knights of Hades. This building had originally been commissioned by a Mardieran shipping company as a storage depot and local office. When the rebellion had come, the Terraversans had belatedly noted its existence, and used it as a base for the local guard. And, when they were run out of town by Loyalists, the place stood empty. As to where the Quiver of Artemis ended up, only a handful of souls know for sure, and they decline to share that information.
-
Cast your minds back, if you will, to the aftermath of the war in Terraversa. Things were bleak. Kingsport had been hit hard by the worst of the fighting. Street-to-street skirmishes had decimated the population. But it was the bombardment that had really messed up the city. Life and limb, brick and beam had all been lost. Entire streets had been levelled - first by the Oleonaise conquest, and then by the Terraversan resistance. Of course, both sides claimed they were only aiming for military targets. But accuracy at those distances is far from perfect. And when your enemy hides among the civilian population, what can you do? Plenty of buildings were hit. Not least the Temple of Artemis, where Her holy Quiver had been stored. It was under these circumstances that the Knights Treasurer took up their defence of the sanctuary. But it was obvious that this wasn't a long-term solution. When peace was declared, Canon François watched with great interest to see what Oldis and Eslandola's first move would be. With so many pressing demands across the territory, his priority would be a telling indication of what would happen next. And, when work teams were quickly dispatched to tackle the gaping holes in the temple roof, the Canon's doubts were raised. There seemed to be only one solution to any rational man of the cloth; the Quiver must be relocated. Oleon might've signed a treaty that said otherwise - he honestly wasn't sure - but the Quiver rightly belonged to the Order of the Faith. And, as the most senior member of the Order in the region, he needed to make a decision. The relic needed to be relocated. And so, with a heavy heart, he tasked a member of the Sisterhood of Artemis to sneak a replica into the temple and remove the relic. If she could get it to the Knights Treasurer, they would do the rest.
