PF Lights??
MxWinters replied to Isak's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I believe they are rated at 9 volt. I'v never taken a set apart but they will likely have a resistor in the plug to drop the voltage down from 9v to about 3v. If you run them at 12v, you will need to change the resistor to a higher value to compensate for the higher voltage or you will eventually burn out the LED's. They would be fine in the short term but not they won't be able to handle the higher voltage for that long. Its best to either change the resistor or just run them at 9v. Modern discrete electronics are very sensitive to voltage changes, LED's are no exception. If you just want brighter lights on your model, then you can buy 5mm through-hole LED's which can be pushed through a hole on a LEGO Technic brick or liftarm and wire up you own lighting circuit to your battery pack but you would need to read the data sheet on the LED and use a suitable resistor for said LED. Its a tight fit but a 5mm LED's will fit in a LEGO hole. -
Very impressive model, great details, love the baler too. The only downside is its too clean, needs to be covered in mud and dirt .

Great videos, thanks for sharing. I would suggest though putting a 24 tooth clutch gear on the steering if possible. I always say clicky gears are unhappy gears. Other than that an awesome model, that would look sweet on the back of my artic lorry .- 27 replies

Not LEGO related but today I picked up 4 T-shirts, a new coat, a skirt and a new handbag for my holiday to Kiev, Ukraine in a couple of weeks, my first holiday since 2005.

MxWinters replied to Zerobricks's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Wow very impressive, love the way you made the rotors spin in one direction regardless of which way the motor is spinning, simple but very clever. Great work @Zerobricks.- 16 replies

I went up to Exeter today as my mum had a meeting so I tagged along and while she was in the meeting I went into Toymaster and picked up a LEGO 1x1 Storage Brick for my Power Functions parts. Picked up a red one for my remotes, receivers, lights and battery boxes and next time I go up there I will pick up a blue one for my Power Functions motors. A little while ago I picked up 250 plastic food containers for my main LEGO parts but they aren't big enough for my Power Functions parts, these Storage Bricks will be a good safe place to store them.

I agree with @M_longer, asking us to email you to see any photos defeats the whole purpose of a forum, a place for people to ask questions and share their creations. You may ask us to email you for full building instuctions with part list, but asking us to email you just for images goes against what the LEGO community stands for. If you create a new thread on this site about your model, just like @M_longer said, it is your duty to show us pictures of your creation. If you not willing to share said images, please don't create a new topic.

Personally I don't buy LEGO sets due the cost and because I find them too easy. I like searching online for something I want to build then deciding on the specifications I want it to have and then attempting to build it. For example my current model, I decided to build a artic lorry (semi truck) able to pull multiple trailers, I then looked around online for LEGO models other people have built to draw inspiration from and then incorporated all the features I wanted into my model while leaving out the features I didn't want. E.g. the gearbox was designed by @Sariel, the cab shell was taken from Brickshelf user pipasseyoyo as well as the drive motor location and a similar 0° steering offset design. The result is a model that is by far the most complex and the most challenging model to get right I have ever built. It depends on what model you want to build and what type of things you like, be it cars, lorries, cranes, diggers, tractors, helicoptors, mechanical machines ect. The great thing with LEGO is that you can make almost anything and make it as simple or as complex as you want. Decide on what you want to build, look online for how that machine is built in the real world then look to see if anyone has built it with LEGO and then decide on how you can improve on it or make it in a unique way.

Hehe, party pooper :P The greater the number of pivot points, the greater the challenge and thus the more fun it is. I find easy things, like reversing single trailers, really boring. I like a challenge. When are you going to post a video of the heli flying??? Coz it sure looks like it could fly :D.

Reverse engineering of MOC's
MxWinters replied to robert's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I personally don't have a issue with reverse engineering other people's work for your own model, to understand how a MOC works or just for the enojyment of solving a puzzle. But I think it's right to credit the original creater when uploading photos/CAD images on the internet (e.g. Eurobricks, YouTube ect). However, as others have said, I would ask the original creater before releasing/publishing your instructions, either for free or for a fee. Its just a respect thing to others in the comminity. -

Couldn't agree more, this is not an English class and you ain't at school/college/uni. If I can understand you, your doing good. You've make the effort to speak a foreign language, that's what counts in my eyes. Anyways, a very nice little model indeed, very compact, you've done a great job fitting 4 M motors associated mechanics and battery pack in such a small footprint. -
Very cool, I always knew LEGO could do this kinda thing, great work. Fully loaded artic lorry? Boeing 747? Airbus A380?

I'm not a fan of American trucks but this is a very impressive model. Great work on getting both the truck/trailer and the helicopter to look so real, the curves on the heli look awesome, far better than anything I could do. Sorry for going a little off topic here: Just for those who didn't know, the Sikorsky H-19 Chickasaw was also built in the UK under licence by Westland and was called the Whirlwind which was also bought by a number of other countries. Personally I prefer Westland versions of the H-19. Westland also build licenced versions of the H-34 (Westland Wessex) and S-61 (Westland Sea King). The Westland Sea King is by far my favorite. British International used to run a passenger services between Penzance and the Isles of Scilly (small group of islands about 28 miles off the Cornish coast) using 2 Sikorsky S-61 helicopters. RNAS Culdrose in Helston used to fly the Westland Sea Kings. I think the Westland Sea King was/is better looking and quieter than the S-61. The tory government scapped the Royal Navy and RAF search and rescue services a few years ago and the Coast Guard now use the deafening and ugly S-92 things. The noise those thing make is horrible, you can hear it from miles away. Guess that's what happens when you don't bother to design a rotor disk properly....*Hint hint Sikorsky* Anywho... I found your Brickshelf album on this truck ealier in the year and is what inspired me to build my own version. Although my version is based on a European style lorry, with a different trailer configuration and fully remote controlled (except fifth wheel couplings). The cab unit is almost done but I've not started the trailers yet, they are still in the design stage. What is/was this road train like to reverse? I'm starting to get the hang of reversing 2 trailer on Euro Truck Sim but 3 trailers must be really tricky. Still...awesome work on the Mack/lowboy with H-19 and on your road train.

Sorry for bumping this topic but I thought some of you might like to know that I have created a second YouTube channel where I will be posting updates on the .Ux and other content such as cage camera videos, DIY hamster toys ect. I have uploaded an introduction video for the .Ux showing its construction in a little more detail than I did here and I will be posting a video about the electrical system in the next video next week. As Eurobricks is a LEGO forum and not a hamster forum, I will no longer post any more updates to this topic. If you wish to follow the progress of this project or to get your fix of fluff-ball cuteness then feel free to subscribe to my channel. I aim to upload a new video at least once a week. Link to video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WLDUK8MQZL8 Link to channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCf7ns5HG_6FYACx8zKewDDw Again sorry for bumping this topic, feel free to throw LEGO bricks at me .

Haha, I'm glad someone uses halogen lamps, much safer than those toxic fluorescent lamps. Providing that one doesn't keep them burning for hours on end, they are kinder the environment than LED's too with their transformers/drivers and complex circuitry that some of them have. At least with halogens you are guaranteed a CRI of 100% unlike fluorescents and LED's. They also save you from keeping the heating on for so long as well .

[MOC] AMAZONE Pantera 4502
MxWinters replied to eric trax's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Fair enough. I have never played with that type of friction drive, but if you've got it working and it does what you need it to do then good job, its a design that I've not seen anyone using before, at least with LEGO anyway, so its definitely unique. There isn't much that is "impossible" with LEGO, I believe it is why LEGO is still such an popular toy, even after 70+ years. -

Very cool machine and nice colour scheme. I only question the reliability of the friction drive on rough terrain...but I guess with 4 wheel drive, there should be at least one wheel that will still be driven if others slip. Regrardless, a sweet model, very nice work indeed . -
Lego is a great resource for us autistic people, its not just a toy but a great tool for learning mechanics and physics, with for those of us with learning difficulties, it's much better, safer and cheaper to break Lego then to damage real world equipment. Technic is my theme of choice due to these reasons. Other themes like space, town and pirates ect are frankly boring to me, especially as I don't build my Lego models just sit on a shelf collecting dust, I build them to work hard (my last off roader 4x4 truck did like 50 miles (real miles, not scale miles)). As for recommending a set, I'm not the best person to ask as I almost never buy sets, I just buy the parts I need to make the models I want to build. However I would suggest starting with a small, cheap set to start with and see how he reacts to Technic, how much enjoyment he gets from it and to find out how easily he can understand the instructions. If he enjoys it and is able to build it according to the instructions, buy him a biggest set, once done, buy a bigger set and so on. Personally I wouldn't see the point in buying him the a big expensive set like the Bugatti Chiron (42083) right away if he stuggles with something like the Stunt Truck (42059), which might be a good place to start and it comes with a little ramp that he can do jumps with, it is also blue and kinda pickup truck like. If you print off a little Mitsubishi logo and stick it to the front. He can do some huge crazy stunts that his Dad wouldn't dream of doing in his full size pickup . Lego's website currently has them for £17.99, it comes with a pull back motor which could be a neat way to teach him how coiled springs work as well as a couple of other useful parts. Somewhat a little off topic but I believe my first ever Lego set was the 8815 Lego Speedway Bandit about 1991, That was about the only set my parents could afford at the time and the most complex set I was able to build, but you gotta start somewhere and that was a good little set for me to learn how to build with Technic so it was a wise choice by my parents....I've been hooked ever since.

First of all, I have to admit that I received and built this just over a week ago, but I've been setting it up, downloading all my games/apps and benchmarking ect, so its not something I got today but I thought you'd like to see it anyway. Since my old computer was starting to have major issues just doing the basics, I finally upgraded my 10 year old computer with some shiny new parts. This is my old computer just before I ripped out all the old hardware. The old computer used the following: Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 processor (4 core, 4 thread, 2.4GHz clock) EVGA 750i FTW motherboard Gainward Geforce 8800GT graphics card (originally had twin GPU's in SLI, one started having issues so it was removed) Hiper 580w power supply (originally had a Coolermaster M620 which was blown by a external HDD failing (which also damaged one memory stick, the memory controller on the CPU and the northbridge on the motherboard))(never trust USB external HDD's) OCZ DDR2 2GB SLI edition memory (originally 4GB). Can't remember who made the CPU cooler, nor does it have any markings on it. This is with all the new hardware installed, wired up and ready for first use. AMD Ryzen 7 2700 processor (8 core, 16 thread, 3.2GHz base clock, 4.1GHz turbo) MSI X470 Gaming Plus motherboard Gigabyte GTX1070TI graphics card EVGA Supernova 750W G2 80 gold power supply Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 3000MHz 16GB memory Coolermaster Hyper 212 LED Turbo CPU cooler Four 120mm high airflow dual ball bearing case fans (one at the front and one in the side door panel as inlets - one at the back and one at the top as outlets) Having the ball bearing cooling fans in the computer does make it quite loud (around 54dBa at 1 meter) but the system does stay nice and cool, as I'm typing this, the temperatures are the following (all at stock speed and no overclock): CPU: 25°C GPU: 27°C MOS: 29°C System: 22°C PCH: 27°C HDD 1 (OS drive): 27°C HDD 2 (Data drive): 23°C In a living room that is around 18-19°C, with these kind of temperatures, I don't really care about the noise level. Both HDD's, the DVD/blu-ray drive and the system case were reused from the old system as there is nothing wrong with them and they still work fine. I should point out that the HDD's are not the original HDD's I installed when I first built this system. The 500GB OS drive is around 3 years old (soon to be replaced with a M2 NVMe SSD drive) and the 1TB data drive is around 18 months old. This new computer is able to run all my games at max detail at way over 60FPS and is SOOO much faster then my old computer (ignoring the fact that I'm using the worst OS M$ has ever released (win 10 which is a total nightmare and just outright evil) and I'm still running SATA HDD's). I am able to do so much more with this system than I ever could on my old system. Everything from browsing the internet to hardcore gaming is now so much better and smoother. Once my ISP gets my copper phoneline swapped over to half-a**ed fiber, Ill finally be able to start streaming my gaming session on youtube. Anyways, sorry for the long post but I hope you like it.
