It didn't come with a speed reg in Holland, and yeah, that black/yellow 'cargo railway' was hilariously bad looking. - Sok.

And here I thought I had checked all the train sets on peeron for it :) Nice find. I have both this one and 7819, and I want to sell one and use the other with my 7740, but I don't know which one to keep! - Sok.

I bought a large lot of 12v trains last month and among them was this peculiar train car: It looks just like the 7819 mail van from LEGO but as far as I know it is not an original LEGO model. Any ideas? Or is it a really nice MOC that I happened to stumble upon? - Sok.

Someone just posted the loc from this set for sale here, and the complete set here.

Go to a model store and buy some 'SR24' cleaning oil. I use it to clean all electric parts and even the plastic on the switchpoints and crossings. Grab an old cloth, put a few drops on it and rub thoroughly, and be amazed at howmuch stuff comes off. - Sok.

There's a difference between electric and electrified. The ones in your picture are manual, and not electrified (4.5v or push train series). The ones with 12v midrail came in two varieties, manual and with remote control. ('electrified') - Sok.

Wow, that's more than twice as much as the (even older) 12v tracks

Studless vs. Studful

I like both, but the B model also has good playability. Same for the Shovel, both models were fun to build and play with and they weren't that expensive. -
I might also have some of the other parts you're looking for as well as a good working 12v motor but I'll have to check tomorrow. - Sok.

Oh yeah it's a frontloader, close enough -
40€ for a 12v motor is cheap, but most of the ones you get 'cheap' run terrible, eg they will run slow, noisy, their sleepers will be dirty and worn down and their internal axles will be clogged with hairs, or any combination of these. Most of the other parts can be bought off of bricklink reliably, but for a motor I would try to find one nearby so you can inspect it before purchase, or shelf out more and get a good one. - Sok.

I've never owned any of the 9v sets but this one looks sweet, though 12v still owns my heart :)

Or it could just be because the 8460 crane and 8459 bulldozer were extremely popular? Just sayin' -
Nothing yet for today, but I'm waiting on a few replies for offers I made on older train series sets. - Sok.

I'm wondering this too. What's the cost of a LEGO piece, broken down by R&D, making the mold, the actual material and losses through inaccuracies in the mold? - Sok. -
It wouldn't be too hard to incorporate a 9v polarity switch into the train so that it would automatically turn back when it reaches the end, using a brick next to the track :) - Sok.

You could measure it between two axleholes so the distance is at least the same. Other than that, they will be difficult to compare because of the inherent differences in structure. My gut feeling however tells me that the old beams will be stiffer and the new ones will be more flexible, and that the old ones will have a higher break load for the same distance. - Sok.
