  1. Thanks :) I was tempted to order extra fences on bricklink to complete the bridge but I think I'll wait untill I've gotten a bit further with the build and then place one order to get all the missing parts I might need.
  2. Some coherence in style between the trains, related vehicles and trackside structures would be nice too. (like in the 12v era :D)
  3. I kind of dislike the railway stations posted by Olivier, it looks like he just slaps normal LEGO sets together without much MOCcing. There are some nice suggestions in the 7777 book but they are rather small and look a bit clumsy, never looking as sleek as 7824 IMO. - Sok.
  4. http://www.peeron.com/inv/sets/7760-1 is an awesome shunter :)
  5. 8460 space shuttle I'm looking to build a 4-speed linear gearbox in such a way that one LA can go through all four gears sequentially. Just need to find time to build it :D
  6. I found LEGO pneumatic parts easy to clean and open (though it will leave some scratches on the outside), usually there is either not enough grease or its all piled up in one place.
  7. I would use ebay for auctions, but before you post it, try to get a lot of exposure using various LEGO fan sites or even real life fan sites related to the item you are selling.
  8. As you can probably tell I'm hesitant to start on the main building because it is, well, the main building Good call. I could also use more ground plating but they are expensive on bricklink so I'm going to try and find a way to work around that. (or maybe just buy another 7824 station as a whole, they're cheap). No updates any more for a few days now, it's thesis time. - Sok.
  9. Second attempt at control booth and waiting room: The thing on the bottom is a wall-clock. I just realised the hinges for the roof should be black also.
  10. From wikipedia: Buck is a colloquialism for a dollar or similar currency in Australia, Canada, Malaysia, New Zealand, Philippines, Sri Lanka, South Africa and the United States
  11. If you're looking to buy PF parts, get the 8043 excavator or the 8275 bulldozer. Both have a lot of PF parts and a load of useful technic parts which in total will be much cheaper than buying them separately. Excavator: 2x PF remote 2x PF receiver 4x PF m motor 1x batterybox Total in LEGO S@H = 90 bucks for these parts alone while the set can be had for just over a hundred and has 4 LA to boot.
  12. I now have: 7745 with an extra car 7725 with two extra cars 7727 7730 but missing the red motor 7740 with two mail cars (am selling one) 7735 7760 7755 And a load of random cars and locomotives, some MOCs and some from non-motorized sets or trackside structures such as 7823. - Sok.
  13. The space you see on the pictures is literally all the space I have. I cannot extend it further left or right without either removing my bed or my desk chair. Maybe I can clear up some space downstairs later on but this will have to do for awhile To give you an idea: This picture is taken from the far corner, sitting on the bed. To the right is my desk and lots of boxes with Technic LEGO, and if I close the door I can just sit on the floor patch to the left, building stuff. I only have 12v trains but I might try to add PF later, they all have the same gauge and the dimensions of the track parts are similar too. I greatly prefer the style of the old trains to the new ones though. First attempt at a walkway: I ran out of fences, so it isn't quite up to modern safety standards yet I also changed the track layout a little because I found a different way to make them run parallel after and before the station without introducing offset between the lanes. I'll probably remodel the control booth later today because I'm not satisfied with how it looks yet. Please note that none of this is set in stone so if you have ideas or comments feel free to reply! - Sok.
  14. For detailed pics of the near-finished product see this post. I also created a MOCpage for the station, see sig. Oi! I finally got enough stuff together to start building something that I've wanted to create for some time now, a large 12v-era train station. I want to use as many parts from sets from that era as possible to give it a suitable '12v' look, and collecting the sets I thought I'd need took a lot of time. I now have in my possession 3x 7824, 1x 7822, 1x 7839, 1x 7866 and misc other parts, which should be enough for a good start! The idea: To have 2 tracks in each direction, 3 platforms (one center), a large 'control booth', and misc. other things you'll find at a railway station such as a parking lot, waiting rooms, luggage drop-off, ticket booths, a café and a crossing to get to the other side. All in all it'll probably turn into a larger version of 7824, and in roughly the same style. I'm not quite sure about the track layout yet, but this is what the first version looks like: I'll probably aim for a non-symmetrical look later on but this'll do for starters. The middle platform is there for reference, its current size is 3 32*16 plates. A platform of similar size will be added at the bottom and include the main hall, and a smaller platform will be added at the top. To the far right I will add the electric crossing from 7866, and I've already constructed a larger version of the control booth that will overlook both the railway station and the crossing: More to be added soon™! - Sok
  15. I doubt many AFOL's are susceptible to that kind of tomfoolery. LEGO's regular target audience might be, but usually when something is good, people will come regardless of what label they've put on it :) - Sok.
  16. Good, because I wanted to make sure that it had not been put there simply because it sounds awesome. - Sok.
  17. Why does it have to be a challenge? Why can't a community build just consist of people submitting MOC's to a pre-set theme without the competition element? Everytime people throw terms like 'challenge' into something just to make it seem more interesting or to appeal to an audience that doesn't fully understand the implications of it, it reminds me of this brilliant South Park episode: - Sok.
  18. My vote goes to a remake of 8868 with all pneumatic valves controlled by PF :D
  19. I wish LEGO had foreseen this and used RF instead >.<
  20. I don't own any of those train bases but I would like to see a solution that powers both bogies, of course this will lose the ability to place any normal loads on it because of the axle you'll need.. - Sok.
  21. Yeah, can't see the images either :(
  22. I see your crane truck and raise you a space shuttle :)
  23. I wouldn't mind a 'community build' thread for the old 12v era :D
  24. Not quite, it has a niche that nothing else can fill (see gearbox in sig :))
