Post Mill, Puerto Desafio, Isla de Victoria
Jacob Nion replied to Capt Wolf's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
You could have left out the cheese slope on the opposite- you don't see her either from this angle. So what else to say? I call this a perfect micro build because there's absolutely nothing you could have done better. It's instantly recognizable. Even the colourscheme is excellent in this scale.- 6 replies

Nevermind, Maxim. It's not spoiling anything. I'll build a small response soon. But you need to update that hairpiece- it's so 2016.

Actually, only one island claim was available as a prize, which Ayrlego won in the name of Corrington. As soon as he decided "to keep his boots on" there was no open claim left. And about the legitimation of Tortuga: there is none because none is needed. It is a squatter colony on neutral, unclaimed land. Aye, as soon as the next challenge will earn some faction a legal island claim it is free to claim this very island. As long as it is prepared for months of exhausting military action about a ridiculous small spot of rock and sand. @Maxim I As always I appreciate your enthusiasm playing the inspector Javert to my Valjean, but I prefer being asked before like any other. And especially in settlements that state Sea Rats only. both for properties and free builds.

Fancy Pirate ship! The colour scheme works great. Everyone knows, I myself am not so bold when it comes to using bright colours, but I like that sleek blue line framed with yellow. And fantastic job on constructing such a relatively large vessel on only two hull pieces. If only Lego had done so much with the small ships back in the 90ies.

Jacob Nion replied to Professor Thaum's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
...in case of an attack on Tortuga you mean? Thank you very much for offering your support! At least this is what I'm reading in your post, since the range of a fort has practically no impact on surrounding settlements. Except of course the above mentioned case that you plan to defend our small peaceful colony against rude intruders -

Great touch with the skull pattern! Of course the first property of a new sea rat colony must be a tavern! Good job! -
The shipwreck bay is a small portion of rockier coastline on the nothern shore of Sea Turtle Island. Many an unfortunate ship ran aground, not seeingthe deadly riff by flow. The falling tide reveals what's left of the once proud vessels. Nonetheless the Sea Rats found good use for them, refitting some of the shipwrecks for hideouts. Colony Name: Tortuga Ownership: Sea Rats Location: Sea Turtle Island (Island #10, West Prio Sea ) Island Description: Much of the coast of this Island disappears completely below the waves at high tide, and the surrounding sea is very shallow, allowing only smaller ships to near the island, with exception to a small rocky portion to the northern side. The Island interior--that which stays above water at all times--is dominated by coconut palms and other salt-tollerant species. The small island is the hatching site for innumeral sea turtles, multiple times per year.

Previously: The Lady Arlene New Allegiance Welcome To The Crew The Death Of Captain Morgan Sea Turtles Part I "Faster! Unload the boats!" Hundreds of voices yelled over the beach, Captain Morgan marched forwad, holding the Jolly Roger in his hands. A Foot In The Door by Jacob Nion, auf Flickr It hadn't been hard to assemble this bunch of scallywags. As soon as word had spread of his return, people had followed his call to the sea turtle island. Six ships had come from Bastion, his very own Lady Arlene being one of them. And several more ships would join. From Rassilon and Charlatan Bay as well as from any other pirate nest west of Terraversa. Some hundred meters inwards of the isle he stopped and began to speak: "Brethren! You all know my name! You all followed my call! As one of your very own kind, I claim this island in the name of the brethren of the Sea Rats, and for every living soul in this world that starves for freedom. Shall this be a free colony for free men and women. Shall it not be harmed by the greed of kings and high lords! This Port shall henceforth be known as Tortuga! And now do your bloody work you disgraceful bunch of shivering sea slugs!" A Foot In The Door by Jacob Nion, auf Flickr

Previously: The Lady Arlene New Allegiance Welcome To The Crew The Death Of Captain Morgan The voice of the surge commanded Captain Morgan back to the living. Slowly he moved his hand, feeling the sand between his fingers. He rose his head and squinted around. It took him a moment to remember. His ship was gone. His crew dead. But he was alive. When the Queen Annetta's Revenge had vanished beneath the waves, the wake had pulled him underwater. In the dark abyss he had awaited Poseidon. But suddenlysomething rushed by in front of him. Something that felt like a rock, but it welled up. Or was up down and it was sinking? Unable to think he pulled his knife and stabbed it into this thing. He could not remember how long he had drifted on the ocean, partially on the surface, then again diving and swallowing the salt of the sea. Sea Turtles by Jacob Nion, auf Flickr Now he saw his floating rock; it was a sea turtle. The knife was still sticking in its shell. Sea Turtles by Jacob Nion, auf Flickr Morgan stood up. He was marooned on a small pieca of rock and sand. A forest of coconuts grew on the inner land. He recognized this island and its location. After founding a small pool of fresh water, he began collecting driftwood and lut up a signal fire. It was likely that sails would appear on the horizon regularly. The question was, which colours they would bear. After one day he finally noticed a ship. It took an hour until it was close enough to reveal its allegiance. The flag was blue and yellow. From now on, Benjamin Morgan knew he was saved. And more; he had a plan. Sea Turtles by Jacob Nion, auf Flickr

Previously: The Lady Arlene New Allegiance Welcome To The Crew When the smoke of a thousand cannons began to thin out and the painful voices of a thousand souls fell silent, the Queen Annetta’s Revenge was no more. What events did lead to her end was commonly known; a ricochet from an unknown vessel destroyed the ship’s rudder, spelling doom for her crew. Unable to elude getting clasped by the Purple Reign’s and the Miger’ys broadside, she soon began to sink to the ground with the rear ahead. The Death Of Captain Morgan by Jacob Nion, auf Flickr The end of her captain however arose to an unfailing source of spectacular tales. A surviving sailor of the Migery swore he had seen Morgan getting hit by a loose gun, pushing him over board. How did Captain Morgan die? by Jacob Nion, auf Flickr A Mardieran fisherman instead was profoundly convinced he had seen the dreaded pirate in the foremast’s shrouds, when an unbearable reek of pestilence and rotten corpses filled the bay, and the Kraken itself reached out to pull the captain into the deep. How did Captain Morgan die? by Jacob Nion, auf Flickr A popular tale in the taverns of Isla de Victoria stated Poseidon himself(or optional Hades, depending on the story teller) stretched his hand out of the ocean and pulled the whole ship down into his realm, where he would imprison this reckless sailor, who composed himself to rule over the seas. Others again claimed that the water god would marry off one of his daughters to this bold mortal, and mermaids would come and adorn his ship with gems and golden shells and they would live in it as their palace until the end of all days. How did Captain Morgan die? by Jacob Nion, auf Flickr Many, many more tales were told in the brick seas. More sceptical fellows assumed the captain had simply died during the battle, while others, with a penchant for superstition opposed that if this mischievous man in fact had died, his restless soul surely would roam the waters in a ghost ship, scarring any crew unfortunate enough to cross his way. And some even claimed to have seen Morgan up and about in a variety of Mardieran ports, where he attained honours and was most likely plotting his revenge. Or optionally he was suspected to join with King Fernando, attempting to re-establish his reign. Dead or alive, it remained a mystery. Whatever stories where told, nobody could answer the question: what happened to Captain Benjamin Morgan?

I enjoyed the read, the story is well thought and your dialogues show a fine sense of humor. I also like the way you took the pictures, with the structures reaching to the frame so it appears like a section of a greater layout. But seriously, did you sacrifice a finerib vest for those sails?

Keep in mind she's more than 50 years old. Although there aren't real anachronisms in a fantasy world, I assume her design to be a bit outdated nowadays. I really enjoy the colour scheme! It works very well and looks realistic, and it's always good to see ways to avoid solid brown vessels.

Neat vignette. The ruined house is very believeable. And it's great to see how much effort you all put into depicting the aftermath of this terrible war Eslandola caused with its imprudent behaviour.

Another great microbuild. I'm happy to see that all winners try their best to show elaborated builds for their won licenses instead of rushed builds. But I didn't really expect something different. The small black windows are a clever detail, also the 1 plate high gaps under the roof. -
Citrus Plantation near Puerto Desafio, Isla de Victoria
Jacob Nion replied to Legostone's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
The background works excellent- especially the inclusion of the volcano as all-dominating festure of the island. It is hard enough to create a proper micro scale build, but to include forced perspective is on an even higher level.- 6 replies

The use of the microfigs is a wonderful move. It adds so much for the viewer to understand the scale, although even without the figs I'm sure it would work excellent aswell.- 12 replies

For Time the Bells Doth Toll...
Jacob Nion replied to Captain Dee's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Tremendous! It often happens that one starts with a single build and slowly a giant structure grows around it, with many more great ideas and techniques. The one thing that I would suggest is that the tower lacks any sort of strut between the four walls. I guess as a real building it would collaps under its own weight. But of course I'm no expert in Corlandish architecture. Perhaps a smart engineer found a solution I'm not capable to see at first sight.- 21 replies
