Book II - Nocturnus: Guild sign-up and Discussion
Jacob Nion replied to ZCerberus's topic in Guilds of Historica
Also it is mentioned in the guild description that the Drow have their domains in the Rakath. Would make sense since most of the Darklands are swamps and marshes, no ideal ground for underworld races. -

I Sacrifice myself by attacking your nerves again: are we still up to get civil war tags? You know the modern internet saying:" tags or it didn't happen." -

Wow, that was like unfreezing Captain America after 50 years and explain him half of recent history. But that's the way it is: we aren't even the Lords of our own guild for years now. There are like five members who have openly formed resistance, and only three of them are permanently active (counting myself as one of them). Then there are a handful of others active at the moment and it is not clear to whom they've pledged allegiance. Although we love to make fun of Avalonians it seems that at the moment only a handful of those tight wearer lords has shown the will to support us in our cause to defeat the Black Spire. Oh, not to forget that this Desert King is in fact the ancient resurrected rightful divine pharao of Kaliphlin who once also ruled Nocturnus and most of Avalonia. And he has strong relations to the Darklands, so I would not want to mess with that guy. And I'm saying that as his highness' warlord and high guardian of his armies. One who wishes to conquer should at least have a settlement and an army. Perhaps you should start with a settlement. What our guild really needs are more locations. -

Varlyrio is the fifth guild. It is an island in the sea roughly between Avalonia and Kaliphlin. It is a bit of medieval Venice and Braavos in Asoiaf but also a light spanish touch. They are a nation of traders and mariners but can also be very aggressive. Back in book I they where an ally of Victor Revolword and now some Varlyrians are still in allegiance with the Black Spire. There was a contest back in 2011 or 2012, I don't remember, about designing a fifth guild. I don't know anymore who won with Varlyrio, but since then it's a np faction used for main story purposes. I know that because I participated in this contest. Back in these days I did sign up for Mitgardia, but was only active for about a month or two and only a few very crappy builds. And therefore I also remember Angeli and his tremendous Drow cities. Welcome back, shadow of the past ;-) -
Book II - Mitgardia: Guild sign-up and Discussion

Haha, seems that one sentence would have been enough. But I think there's still enough room for highly skilled dwarven engineering. Thinking of water powered mining machines and forges, large siegeweapons and anything that runs on gears. -

Since we haven't found warpstones in Historica yet, the only source of energy for the things you probably have on mind would be magic. So if you say something can fly because it's enchanted nobody would complain about I guess. Let us not forget that TLC's pretty first true fantasy line was fright knights and featured those infamous flying machines. And about cannons, I tried on this myself during the Kaliphlin civil war but tried to make clear that it was no usual weapon you see on every battlefield. In general, fantasy worlds need the status quo in matters of technology. There is usually no progress for thousands of years. If we now had en masse gunpowder and flying machines that would change the whole style of Historica. Think about The Lord Of The Rings. There's the running gag that you just could have shortened the story by using the eagle to get to Mordor. Tolkien himself knew that. He once wrote that he was very careful not to over use the eagles. To get things together, having such advanced machines would make things less complicated and therefore a bit boring for most people. -
[TheFrozen Beyond, Cat C] Skaven Incinerator

I had to finish the base in one night, photograph and edit it. But I find it was worth it. Thank you all very much! Thanks, that bellows was the first part I built. And then another month of having it laying around before I slowly continued. Thanks. We shall see. There is a bunch of good entries. I'm not sure that thing would work for other foes than the Algus. But when it comes to war machines and siege engines I always have an ace in my sleeve. Thank you all very much for your appreciation good sirs. Ha, maybe it's the irony to have human sized rats who handle an ridiculous oversized machine which puts them back into the right proportion. I must say that is a thing I love to play with. Maybe the next thing will be a giant mouse trap.- 28 replies

It's great that you saved some time to return to Gorr. I loved your depiction of the isle during the civil war. Those mocs had bee some of your strongest entries to the civil war. Egde of the worlds fits. It's exotic and gives me this feel of distant shores in the far southern ocean that most Nocturnians never have heard of. The architecture has a Gondorian touch to me. I really like that. Now I'm excited what you will show us for Avalonia.

There is most definitely room for this! You can come up with pretty much every architectuural style amd culture you want. When you have doubts that something could not fit a good background story can justify nearly everything. Despite northern snowy regions Kaliphlin has pretty much every landscape to offer and is inhabited by a large number of different cultures. There are more medieval european styled areas in the north at the border to Avalonia and far east asian influenced cities in the east of the Rakath. While the main part of Kaliphlin is of course a mash up of near and middle asia, tthre is also a strong ancient egypt influence ( but after the civil war the majority of the Kaliphlinites seem to have developed a strong aversion against that). And ancient greek roman influences can be found pretty much everywhere. Eapecially Ulandus should be interesting for you. This ancient realm was reunited with Kaliphlin last year. And while present in countless battles, we still haven't seen very much of this mystic island. But you should inform yourself about the Kaliphlin civil war to understand Ulandus and prevent conflict with the main story line. Speaking of this: there is no such thing like time difference. Feel free to use every historical influence you like. As long as it fits as a whole nobody will complain. You can use LDD. But you will soon realise that it's not very satisfying compared to real bricks. And of course you need a personal character. And LDD doean't offer many parts to have an imdividual figure. also, LDD is often not allowed for contests and challenges. So you would be limited to free builds only. The community will sure give you advise how to start a collection. There are already guides in the official eurobricks indexes. -

My Cat C Entry -
When the Algus beset their home, the Rats of Skavenport faced the menace like they always face black magic; with their engineering and a good portion of insanity. The war wagon rumbled and clattered down the hill, its heavy weight pressing the wheels into the ground. And with formidable speed the whole construct crashed into the enemy. The rats handling the bellows clung to the rope and pulled. And the dragon shaped potbelly stove did his work. I'm glad I could finish my entry in time. Instead of the Algus, idleness and inappetence where my true enemy. So I had the Incinerator lying around for a good month before I eventually started the diorama. But I hope it was worthwhile and you enjoy it. Thanks for having a look!

Any plans about that? Maybe a goblin sub species? I thought about discussing that in the guild thread, to clarify how to classify these new inhabitants. -

The only prize that seems worthy for this challenge would be Stephanie's little bakery or any other pie related lego friends set. I also think it should be open to all Historicans. Giving a prize to one of six or seven Nocty participants kind of feels odd. -

Your entry is both very creative and perfectly executed. I'm amazed how well the trans plates work as fog here, especially how it's crawling on ghe ground. The white ice cream adds something like tentacles to it. Nothing physical, but it gives the mist something that looks like it would grab for you. And cheers to the use of that nexo monsteer. It seems that we Nocturnians are the only ones who can find use in that series. -
Guilds of Historica New Member Guide

You are right about the location. The fallen angel is that giant pit in front of the Kelra Labyrinth. As far as I know there was never any larger story settled in that area. All I found was one vignette from 2013. So be brave and enter the dark dale. Like every region in Historica the Fallen Angel is large enough to have several different landscapes and tribes. So do not worry about telling your own tales. As long as you do not claim that the whole crater is filled with pink marshmallow trees and declare yourself high king of the chocolate dale you can come up with whatever you want. Please get this right: it's not the problem what you do with this place, just keep the door open for others to enter. There's enough space that everyone can imagine a new story. It's by no doubt a very rough and mysterious place to be. It's probably covered in dim twilight by the high walls of the crater. But there could also be light places in the middle, where the sunlight is not oppressed by the shadow of the deep rocks. Will there be swamps? Forests? Lakes? What creatures are lurking in the dark? Are there ancient races who found a save home in the solitude of the dale? Ruins of lost civilizations who found their doom in the impact of the meteor? It's all upon you. Be brave amd enter the twilight. Go with good hope and come back to tell us your adventures! -

I really like how you depicted Port Wrath. Those stone buildings give it a unique architecture, at least in Nocturnus. Also cheers for the idea with the blood water. I'm not worried too much about our beloved half vampire lord. Luckily most skulls in Guilds of Historica look one like the other.

Again you came up with a totally different style of swamp. I really like that. And this one in particular has some kind of beauty and harmony in it. I'm not sure if I saw that technique of the hut before but nevermindn it's great and fits perfectly in this setting. And great to see that little boat again.

I like the it. Especially the use of droid arms fits well. While it's mainly made of basic bricks it doesn't look too blocky. Only flaw for me are the eyes. From that angles in the firsst pics it looks like an innocent female beasty. -
