I wanted this set as soon as I heard the name, and once I found out it had a New 52 Wonder Woman and invisible jet I was in full-on shut-up-and-take-my-money mode. So while I didn't really need further convincing, I do appreciate the in-depth look. Thanks, j2g!

I'm almost certain there will be a second wave featuring the portal. Note that only three of the four keys seem to be available in this wave.

Speculation is fun!

Marvel Superheroes 2015 Rumors & Discussion
tafkatb replied to CorneliusMurdock's topic in LEGO Licensed
Ah, good point - the official reveal was probably held back until the movie was out. In that case, the Helicarrier will probably be revealed earlier, maybe early to mid-January. -
No, it's definitely releasing in May; I have no idea why that site is listing it for August.

Last year's March exclusive was the Sea Cow, which was officially revealed at NYTF, though box pictures leaked a few days before. I expect roughly the same for the Helicarrier. -

The only prelims are those blank box pictures that surfaced the same time as all the other prelims. Pretty sure there won't even be prelims for these, we'll just have to wait for official pictures in an early catalogue or something. -
It doesn't mention Friends either, even though those are definitely coming as well. They're not going to list every single theme that will be getting new sets.

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
tafkatb replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
My opinion is that it's fine to dislike something, but maybe not such a good idea to be a petulant, condescending misogynist about it. Besides, you have to admit that's probably an accurate prediction. -

And OTW will hate it. -
LEGO Collectable Minifigures Future Series Rumours

Well, we already know the black paint roller will be in 10246... I'm most intrigued by the green maraca, mostly wondering whether it will be used as an actual maraca or something else. -

I showed pictures of the Detective's Office to my fiancée and her response was "You need to get it!" -

You're probably going to like January's giveaway then. -
Lego Expertise ... way beyond Plastic Molding
tafkatb replied to DrJB's topic in General LEGO Discussion
A few other techniques they use for QA: new molds will often get a test run in Bright Red or Transparent, as any flaws in the mold show up more readily in those colors. (And that's where weird parts like the red Vader helmet you occasionally see on Bricklink come from.) Designers also "cook" sets to see how well connections hold up - pieces lose some of their clutch power above a certain temperature, so deliberately heating them up helps pinpoint weaker connections that would otherwise seem stable. Oh, and Apple surely has just as much color variance in their plastics - but no one notices because no one's trying to stack a thousand iPods into a castle wall. -
PR and DO both have new prints, and existing parts in new colors, but not wholly new molds made just for those sets. Any of these new molds would have to be in a CMF line, or Friends, or any of the other themes that are allowed to requisition new molds, in order to be permitted in a D2C, just like the scooter from PR or the scissors from DO.

Well, he pretty much has to be in the minifigure series in order to be in the set. As a D2C, the set couldn't contain any new molds that aren't also in production elsewhere.

Marvel Superheroes 2015 Rumors & Discussion
tafkatb replied to CorneliusMurdock's topic in LEGO Licensed
If it's big enough and detailed enough, I'll probably get it. As someone whose main focus was the Architecture line before branching out more, I'm clearly nowhere near as hung up on consistent scale or unique minifigures as most others. I'd certainly be pleased to get some of the figs people are suggesting, but their presence or absence wouldn't make or break the set for me. -
So now that we know Snake is one of the minifigures, it's probably a safe bet he'll be in the Kwik-E-Mart. Maybe even with Li'l Bandit! Really hoping Jasper makes it into the lineup so we can have Frostillicus too.

No news on polybags yet - we typically don't know about them until they start to pop up in LEGO.com's replacement parts database. If I recall correctly this year's polybags didn't turn up until January.

Again: there were never any clues. -
February 17, jackson05 on the Brickset forums reported a new fairground ride "of a similar concept to the #10196 Carousel" would be coming out in the summer. Clearly we're a little ahead of schedule to be hearing about the next installment so soon.
-
Yeah, I'm thinking any GWP figure would be a tie-in with Age of Ultron. Any DC poly bags will more likely be on the impulse rack at Target.

Although police sets don't interest me, I'm glad we're getting printed 1x2 cheese slopes. Something about that part seems to actively resist the application of properly aligned stickers in my experience.

I'm guessing that the big robo-shark that turned up on Taobao is for this new theme, then?

I was wondering that myself. Maybe we'll get a mini Javelin?
