If you're planning on getting them all eventually anyway, the Hogwarts Express is probably the one to get first. I think that's the one that works best as a standalone.
-
I know you prrrobably intend to be taken seriously, but I can't help laughing because this reads like a parody of entitled fan complaints.

One of these days I'm going to fully flesh out my idea for a modular Research Institute, and that fossil set will probably be essential for it.
-
This is amazing! It really nails the tricky balance of maintaining a consistent level of detail with the official modulars. The bookcase passageway is easily my favorite bit, but I also really like the rooftop greenhouse.
-
I got 19, because I couldn't remember how many sets featured the Mirror of Erised. Pretty impressed with myself, since the original run of sets coincided almost exactly with my dark ages.

I think Fluffy absolutely needs to be brick-built (though probably with molded heads) to have enough articulation - I'd like to be able to pose him both in aggressive attack mode and sleeping.
-
And people also have a right to be annoyed at the people who are annoyed. And then the first group of people can get annoyed at the people who are annoyed that they're annoyed. And then this goes on for a dozen pages, and suddenly we're no better than the Star Wars thread.

Any specific MOC ideas for how you would use these?
-
You do raise a good point, but I suspect it's going beneath the notice of most folks in this topic because the ride itself only accounts for a quarter or so of the set. Undoubtedly, though, plenty of people will be selling it on Bricklink sans minifigs and dinosaur at a substantial markdown, in which case it might be worth picking up for a fairground layout!

Like... people unnecessarily pluralizing LEGO?!?! (I kid.) Anyway, the forum has an "Ignore" feature, which I find enormously handy. And on the subject of most wanted new characters? My vote's gotta go to Tonks, followed closely by Moaning Myrtle.

LEGO Creator 2019 - Rumors, Discussion, and Speculation
tafkatb replied to Digger of Bricks's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Nope. But we're not exactly lacking for fairground sets this year as it is, what with the 3-in-1, several Friends sets, a City people pack, and maybe even that rocket ride Ideas GWP depending on how loosely one defines the theme.- 280 replies

So, this is something that has been bouncing around in my head for a bit, and I thought it might be fun to see others' ideas: If you could pick any LEGO piece to be produced in a color it hasn't been, what would it be and why? Doesn't matter if either the part or the color (or both) is long discontinued, but you can only choose one specific combination, and you have to tell us why. For me, it's a rather selfish if simple pick: I would want the bicycle frame in 145 Metallic Sand Blue, since that's a dead ringer for my actual bike. How about you?

What is your favorite LEGO-related song?
tafkatb replied to Lego David's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Aaaand now it's stuck in my head. Thanks a lot. The whole score from The LEGO Movie is pretty fantastic, but "Cloud Cuckooland and Ben the Spaceman" is a particular standout for me. And I also quite like "LEGO House" by Ed Sheeran; I recently put that on a tenth-anniversary mix CD I made for my wife, and she really likes it too. -
LEGO set itself up for inconsistent minifigure quality.

Let's not kid ourselves - they'll complain no matter what. They will always, always find something to complain about. Why doesn't every Malibu Stacy have a new hat? -
The Simpsons didn't get a second D2C because the first one sold well, it got a second D2C because they planned on two from the start. So... I guess it's more like "Let's hope there's another one in the works"?

The Lego Movie 2 - The Second Part 2019 Set Discussion
tafkatb replied to Fenghuang0296's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I'd really like Benny and Balthazar's ship as a set, but I wouldn't want all three sets to be from the final battle. I'd also like to see one based on the wedding - hopefully including Musical Makeover MetalBeard! -
I don't think I could do a definitive ranking, but I can at least group them into broad categories: Definitely buying: The Knight Bus, Hogwarts Clock Tower, Advent Calendar On the fence about buying myself, but would probably put on my birthday and/or Christmas list: Hungarian Horntail, Hagrid's Hut, Beauxbatons' Carriage Won't bother with, but also wouldn't turn down if someone got for me as a gift: The Rise of Voldemort, Expecto Patronum

I'd say it's guaranteed another series is in the works, it's just a matter of if and when they will go into production and hit shelves. I mean, I want this theme to become evergreen as much as anyone else here, but I also try to take the realities of the production process into account.
-
I figure at the very least, we'll see sets based on Order of the Phoenix and Half-Blood Prince next year, then Deathly Hallows and Fantastic Beasts 3 in 2021. If it's still doing well at that point, then yeah, they could easily cycle back to revisit the earlier movies, and if it's still doing really well, perhaps another D2C and/or Minifigure series.

Where should the next People at the ____ take place?
tafkatb replied to legoman19892's topic in LEGO Town
I agree! I like that it opens up the possibility of other people packs based more on professions than locations. In that vein, a People Pack focusing on the arts could be awesome! Musicians, painters, sculptors, actors - a lot of possibilities there. -
Mature Themes We'd Like to See (discussion, rumour, wishful thinking)
tafkatb replied to legoSDR's topic in LEGO Licensed
What mature themes would I like to see? Well, that depends on your definition of "mature." My pop-culture tastes skew decidedly kid-friendly, so LEGO pretty much already has those bases covered. (Stranger Things and Jurassic Park are probably the upper limit on the violence and gore I can handle.) The only other license I might like to see would be Universal Monsters, which I guess is more "adult" - not necessarily due to being inappropriate for children, just not as likely to interest them, especially when LEGO can take essentially the same public-domain characters and give them a wacky spin like they did for Monster Fighters and Series 14 Minifigures. Architecture and (some of) Ideas are arguably "mature" themes already. In the former, I'd like to see some more... intellectually mature subject matter, I guess? More stuff that's significant to the field of architecture and design even if it's not as well-known among the general public, like the Eames House, Barcelona Pavilion, or Piazza d'Italia. (OK, that last one might be debatable, but I have a soft spot for it.) As for Ideas, I've really enjoyed the "1:1" type sets like the Maze, Ship in a Bottle, and Pop-Up Book. I've seen several submissions for things like typewriters and life-size musical instruments, and I think those would be really fun to build as well. Again, they're mature in the sense that the subject matter would likely just bore most kids rather than offend or traumatize them. -
Lego City 2019 - Rumours, Speculation and Discussion
tafkatb replied to TheArturro's topic in LEGO Town
Ooh, I might want to get that. I've been itching to try my hand at some neo-Paradisa MOCs. -
Probably not. Initial shipments of high-demand items can be shockingly small. If you can't be there when they open on launch day, you're probably going to need to wait a while for supply to stabilize.
-
I don't think it's a matter of rebuilding or converting so much as just folding open - look at the inset picture on the box art; I think that's the dormitory they're referring to.

Having finally just seen The LEGO Movie 2, I have to say I would be super into this.
