  1. I've always been a fan of VW's and I'm not a hippy. I love the older VW's like the van here and can't wait to get my hands on this. I actually own a VW now and have been driving them for the past 15 years. So maybe that's why I'm so attracted to this model but really it's just such a great design. Lego really outdid themselves on this one. I would prefer a lower price tag but I can understand with this level of detail.
  2. Ok, ok so I decided I really like Andyc's idea much better. Pick a theme, non- train and build a related car. Examples- A Hogwarts Castle car based on the Harry Potter set 4842. Or a Camper car based on the city camper set 7639. You could use parts from the actual set or just base it on the set. I think this would definitely be the best way to go. The possibilities are endless.
  3. I have to agree with The Brickster on the modular idea being a little too complicated. That could certainly be something that may be possible further down the road if others are interested but for now we should keep it simple. We don't want to keep it so simple it would be boring but building modular sections require many rules and specific features. I'm really liking the idea of basing train cars on past themes. A police jail train car? A wild west saloon car? I can see it now...
  4. What an outstanding build! The details on both the inside and out are fantastic! I can always appreciate a MOC far from the norm. This would be a great addition to any Lego city. Well done!!
  5. That's a great idea too.
  6. I also like the idea of a fire train and so on. There are many ways we could do this. We would need front page advertising too, just to get members interested. We could advertise the contest for a week before it actually begins. Again, I would be fine with running the event and I can keep track of the participants. Please suggest additional ideas as I would really like to get this going. I think we could bring some needed attention to the Train Tech forum. Seriously, Lego trains are the best part of Lego, right? :)
  7. So this is what I have come up with. I welcome any thoughts or opinions etc. The main purpose will be to build a freight train. Each member will design and build a freight car to be added into the train. All entries will be built to fit on current Lego track and should be able to roll freely with current trains and rolling stock- meaning a 10 stud wide model will not be appropriate. Actual width will be stated in the rules if this becomes official. Each participant will have a variety of loads to choose from and will design their rolling stock around the load. The car does not need to be prototypical as I would like to encourage some free thinking on this. Loads will consist of traditional goods to fictional goods. Here are some ideas- coal, wood, minifigure heads, money tiles, oil, deceased pirates, mail, push brooms, Darth Vaders soul, guns, steel, gravel, mini tie fighters, auto mobiles, ships or boats etc etc. The load itself does not need to be featured especially if it is a classic design or prototypical such as a box car. You can state in your description of the car what load it contains but you don't have to show it. For the odd load cars it would be best to feature the load such as minifigure heads. When the final decision on loads is finalized each member will announce what load they would like. The first to post his/her load will have ownership of that load and no one else will be able to use it. I would also be ok with allowing track side structures to be involved. After the cars and structures have been submitted we could vote on both categories of the winning submissions. I like The Bricksters idea on having an Avatar made for the winner. If we decide to allow trackside structures one type of load may be used on a structure and train car. Example- a coal car and coaling tower may be submitted by two different members. I would think two weeks would be enough time to build and then submit. Once everything has been submitted within the proper time allowed a voting poll would be open to all members of EB to pick their favorite train car and track side structure. I don't think an actual prize is necessary as this is for fun. I would certainly like an Avatar made for each of the category winners to flaunt their win. So, chew on that. Let me know how you feel and I would be more than happy to come up with all of the rules. Let me know.
  8. I stopped into the Lego store tonight and saw they had the train control tiles and couldn't resist. I packed a large cup within 5 minutes and made out very well. All together I ended up with 595 pieces. Not too bad for a speed pack.
  9. I could be down with something like this even though I'm not well versed in the LDD world. I'd certainly give it a try. If someone out there wants to organize this please be my guest. Above me The Brickster stated there would be no prizes which I think is fine. This would be for the fun of it. If anyone wants to get this rolling with rules and so on, go for it. You wouldn't be stepping on my toes, I just asked the question. I would also like to point out that building MOCs and posting pictures would be more challenging and in the end members could even trade designs if they wanted. And if anyone wants to share ideas on how we could go about this whole thing feel free to message me. I do have a few ideas on how to get the ball rolling.
  10. First of all I enjoy Big Cams comments and he usually pops up on every post. Secondly, I have an issue with checking in throughout the day on EB. A recent business trip to Texas (I live in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania) kept me from logging in for about 5 days. Other than that I am on here way too much. It really goes to show what a great community of people we have here. I love it!!
  11. I always liked the fire truck offerings from Lego for some reason. I think you did a really good job on this and like the above comment I wish the lego versions sat more firefighters. I really like how you added some light features into this and the compartments really make for an authentic version as well. Great job!!
  12. I really like this one. It's something that you don't see, at least I've never seen a MOC record store. Excellent job on the interior details and I really like the colors you chose for the exterior. Great job!!
  13. I read about this a while ago and it seems like it may be an interesting read. I may just have to pick it up.
  14. Absolutely brilliant! I was blown away by the waterfall and the fact that you made a rippling effect from the row boat. The castle itself is a work of art and the interior details are perfect. Awesome work and thanks for sharing.
  15. Something about this just really brought me back to my childhood. It almost reminds me of those old science kits my brother and I had as children. You could make all kinds of weird machines to tell time or pick up radio frequencies and so on. I can tell you definitely put some work into this and it's very cool. I would frame it somehow and hang it on the wall as a "working" art piece. I could imagine the noise from the motors would get annoying after a while though. Nice job, I really enjoyed this.
  16. Now that's what I call a MOC! You could make a movie with this set up. Kudos to the builder! What an amazing piece!
  17. I just realized who you were after seeing your Croc Fabuland MOC. When I was still lurking (not a member) I found your vignettes to be quite inspiring. I was so impressed that I jumped in head first, became a member and started buying sets again and building MOCs. Your MOCs are very impressive especially the minifigure vigs. You match each figures personality perfectly. Thanks for the inspirati...

  18. Excellent detailing. I'm not big on Japanese structures but they can be quite tough to get down. You really did a great job with the architecture of the building and the interior details are perfect. This would definitely be a tough MOC to build. Great job!!
  19. Really nice job. Great idea for the roof and the way you did the water and beach really stands out. Hinkley's last MOC really made me think twice about the Fabuland stuff and this goes to show that this genre can be very cool. Excellent work!!
  20. Since PF is still somewhat new they have many different upgrades that they could make. A smaller motor is a great idea and I could especially use it for Lego locomotives that can't fit the current PF system. If Lego actually continues with this system I'm sure we will see advancements like smaller motors and receivers in the near future. I really hope we do.
  21. I was just thinking that myself
  22. Congratulations to all of the winners!! I just wanted to give a shout out to all the MOC contributors. They were all very interesting MOCs so great job to everyone!!
  23. I really like your whole set up. It's got that California row home thing going on. The details are very interesting not only on the inside but the outside as well. Very nice work. I'm not familiar with the show "Angel" but I really like the monster law firm idea. I could see why a vampire or werewolf could use a lawyer.
  24. Thanks for the great pictures, Hinckley! It really doesn't stand out like the last two for me but there are some special parts I really want. I'll be picking this up soon.
  25. I have that problem and it's not that great. I'm always broke now.
