  1. Being an n scale modeler, painting is one of my specialties. First of all I have never painted an actual Lego piece but I know there is a protective coating on them. There are a few ways to go about this. You can try scrubbing the part with soap and water to help the paint adhere. I wouldnt use any toxic strippers like mineral spirits as this will change the color of the part most likely. An airbrush with an oil based paint would be ideal but you can use a can of spray paint. If you do, use modeling paint in the can like Testors and practice before you apply it. You will have to do swooping like motions and slowly coat the part. Don't just spray it directly. Also use blue painters tape to mask off the part you don't want painted. Do not use common spay cans like Krylon or a store brand as many of them will not adhere to certain types of plastic. Remember, don't just spray directly on the part. Swing your arm back and forth like a pendulum at a distance of about 1 foot or a little closer. There are also a lot of painting sites out there with different styles and methods. Hope this helps
  2. I was in a Target about 50 miles from my home town and I noticed they had a whole rack of series 4 ( about a month after they were released) and several people were crowding it. I was attempting to get close but the prospective buyers were almost nudging me out of the way so that I couldn't grab any. Each person had a basket with them and they were just grabbing handfuls of them. By the time they were done there was only about 5 packs left which turned out to be 3 soccer players and 2 werewolves. One of the hoarders was an older man, probably in his late 50's or early 60's, and I followed him toward the register area. He wasn't buying anything else, just the massive amount of minifigures he had just hogged. I blended in with the crowd of shoppers as I followed him out into the parking lot thinking maybe I'll make some kind of deal with him. At the last minute something came over me and I started running toward him frantically. I stuck out my elbow and hit him in the head from behind and his large bag of minifigures hit the ground with him. I scooped up the bag and ran like Forest Gump until I couldn't run anymore. When I finally caught my breath... just kidding. It seemed like this post wasn't going to go anywhere. Sorry, I had to do it.
  3. Wow, you've even got the baffles in the background. Another great MOC!!
  4. You're profile picture is absolutely fantastic. I'm a huge Smiths/ Morrissey fan from the states. Just wanted to say it's nice to see a Smiths-Lego fan.

  5. So that's 3028 sets? If so, that's almost insane! You could probably build a home out of those sets. Not to mention cost, I'd guess you have a few hundred thousand dollars or more wrapped up in that collection. I'd love to see that
  6. (First of all, very good and important topic.) I can understand that people feel this way. It really depends on age as well. Someone in their teens to mid twenties is considered a dork or nerd for playing with toys. I spent most of my teens and twenties playing in bands and partying like a rock star. I began to settle down in my late twenties and started a family, gave up partying and started model railroading again (one of my biggest passions). I'm 33 now and I don't care what anyone thinks about me and really the older you get the less you really do care. If I was single and didn't have a family I may feel differently but then again maybe not. Everyone has some kind of strange hobby that may or may not be accepted by the masses but I always thought- if it's something you like to do, who gives a shit what other people think. My family of course knows about my "obsessions" and my staff ( I run a pet store) some of the girls think it's cute. And even if they thought I was a big loser, then so be it. It's much better than blowing money at the bar or on drugs so enjoy and be proud.
  7. ...cause he's the only one not covered in shit. Once again, great work!
  8. I normally don't comment on MOC cars but this is very cool. I'm a VW fan (I've owned a couple) and looking forward to the release of the upcoming van. Very nice job on this.
  9. First of all- excellent review! I really had to pass on this though. I just don't like the "new" style passenger trains. Thanks to your review I know I'm not missing out on something that I could use (that's a good thing). I also agree with others on the fact that no straight pieces are included, kind of lame. Thanks again and outstanding job for a first time review!!
  10. Not bad. Im curious what the rail car is. It almost looks like a small box car with home siding on it. The locomotive reminds me of a Frankenstein model that railroads used to do. They would take a bunch of useable parts from other engines and create an oddly built switcher engine to work in a nearby yard or platform. No doubt an EMD nose on it. I say keep the tan stripe, it's a nice addition. Good work.
  11. Picked up 7213 off road fire truck and boat at Target for $20- normally $40. Won another Maersk engine and container car for $53 on eBay. Pretty good deal actually. Last week got Cars 2 Flo's cafe 8487 for $30 at Target. Another half off deal!!
  12. Coal or Ballast.
  13. Ive been playing around trying to to get the photos up, hopefully I did it right Here are some shots on a very basic train MOC that I just completed. I plan on making more with much more effort but Im happy with this for now. http:// http:// Thoughts or comments are more than welcome
  14. I really like the truck pulling it. The whole scene would make a really cool MOC. I just don't have the talent or resources yet to pull it off. Any takers?
  15. I just sold 16 curves and 2 straights for $38 for an average price of $2.11 per piece. It really depends on the package too. I've seen some auctions that include turn-outs that really drive the price up considerably.
  16. Another great work! The "Lego hater" is really enjoying these so keep em coming. I may just convince her yet. Jackson and Travolta look perfect. This is just too cool.
  17. I just commented on the clockwork MOC and I should tell you... My wife is a bit of a Lego hater and she was blown away by your MOCs. Her exact words were " holy shit! You can actually tell what movie they are from! That's f***ing amazing!!" So nice job. You've even managed to impress a Lego hater! They really are quite good. Keep it up.
  18. Lol! Now that's cool! I've been looking at the past MOCs and they are very cool but this one takes the cake. Excellent job my friend!
  19. The fact that I'll be able to get a Joker minifigure for a reasonable price excites me very much. I missed out on the last Batman Lego series and I refuse to pay the ridiculous prices for any of it on eBay. I can't wait until this stuff hits the shelves. Not impressed by the larger figures. They look a bit silly. And the hulk minifigure??? It doesn't even look like Lego. I hope they do something different with that.
  20. Interesting. One of the magnets on the container car is weak and breaks connection from time to time. Other than that I've had no real issues. If you're planning to always keep the engine I would just use a small about of glue. Elmers can bond plastic but can be washed off if needed. If you use super glue though it's together for life.
  21. I know I shouldn't but these are very cool. I never really thought about incorporating serious subject matter into a MOC and I have to say it's a pretty cool idea. Kids definetly react to serious subjects when you put it in some kind of perspective for them- in this case, Lego. I'm very interested to see what you come up with next. Great detail too, nice job!
  22. I've been reading this ever since it was posted and wasn't going to reply but I figured- what the hell. The amount of MOCs posted everyday can be overwhelming. If it's not my genre so to speak I usually won't comment. Certain MOCs get more attention than others depending on how popular the genre is. For instance- if you were building Pirate MOCs I guarantee you would get plenty of feedback. It's just a popular niche. And like everyone else, if I have nothing nice to say I won't say anything. 99% of the population on EB is pretty respectful and that's a good thing. I've seen some of your stuff and it's pretty cool, just not my thing. If you were posting Train MOCs I'd be all over it.
  23. I'm sure this has been done many times but I'm a new member and I'm curious- what got you back into "collecting" Lego? I know many of you never left the hobby but for those like me it was the Minifigure series. Then the release of Emerald Night and the Maersk set put me over the top. Since then I broke out my collection from the late 80's and 90's and have purchased around 40 or more sets in the past few months alone. I prefer the train stuff but I have dabbled in just about every other line that is currently out including most of the POTC line. One of the best parts about getting back into Lego was finding this site. It's just been a wealth of information. Also, I wanted to say how great it's been talking with many of you and I really enjoy my time here.
  24. Yeah I saw that and I may just have to. I would be using PF as I've sold off most of my 9v stuff. Now that I know I can fit PF I'll probably be purchasing the instructions in the next month or so. Such a cool Loco!!
  25. Very impressive! I was curious if there are any interior details? If so I would be very interested to see them. I really like the trolly tracks in the street, very realistic. A fantastic build indeed!
