  1. Every once in a while I stumble across a good sale. At Target I found the following- Cars 2 Flo's cafe 8487-50% off. Kept what I wanted and sold the rest off. Made my money back and then some. City off road fire truck and boat 7213-50% off Prince of Persia-Quest against time 7572-60% off Prince of Persia-Ostrich Race 7570-75% off Harry Potter-knight bus 4866 50% off World Racers-almost every set-50%-75% off Some other small Harry Potter sets at 75%-85% off And several others I can't remember right now. Kmart Space shuttle 3367-50% off- employee stocking error eBay Case of Minifigures series 1&2 one of each for a total of $300 which is pretty good. Other than that I've had many buy one get one, buy one get one 50% off and so on. For me, Target tends to have the best deals. I always hear about great finds at Walmart but I've never found any myself. After seeing all the great Goodwill finds I may start checking them out.
  2. I've found in my experience that Lego rarely gives discounts. Usually they will throw in a freebie before they clearance something. But even when they do clearance an item it's usually not by much. As Legocrazy81 said, the real benefit from buying from Lego are the VIP points. Target usually has really good Lego sales and really low clearance prices. I usually buy from Lego when I can't get the set I want from a local retailer.
  3. Now that is amazing! Awesome just awesome.
  4. I had a situation like that. After a couple months of no response the sellers wife wrote me an email and I was later refunded my money. The seller had a huge business on eBay for years but he was an older man. Some others couldn't wait and posted bad feedback and chalked it up as a loss I guess. I felt bad for his wife because she had to contact all these people that were upset. You never really think that the seller may have passed.
  5. I prefer the printed tiles over the stickers. Sometimes the stickers are good but it really depends on the set. For example, I thought the stickers for the Maersk train set were good. I bought a bunch of World Racers sets at clearance and hate the stickers for those sets. I would also prefer to apply them myself. Many companies that pre-sticker have issues with machines not applying them accurately 100% of the time. As someone said earlier, they would charge us more to apply the stickers I'm sure.
  6. I'm really jealous about some of these responses. I only have... 2x Maersk set 2x Emerald Night Cargo train PF yellow loco Red Caboose -my own train Load n Haul set- 9v Plan on buying the new cargo train red loco and maybe one more EN & Maersk.
  7. Everyone that commented has good advice. It really goes back to what can you afford? The best starter set is the cargo train 7939 and you can still find them. There is the newer cargo train but doesn't have as much track, sorry I don't have the set number on hand. The Maersk set and Emerald Night are great add-ons but you have to purchase the Power Functions separately. They're both pretty rare and popular designs so I wouldn't wait too long as their value will probably skyrocket once they are discontinued. The last passenger train #7938? is a nice small starter set but has a limited amount of track. I would also recommend staying with the new Power Functions sets as 9v and 12v parts and accessories tend to fetch a hefty price nowadays. Hope that helps.
  8. I agree completely. Excellent work!!
  9. Once again you have created a beautiful loco here. This, with the addition of your past work is just amazing. I can't wait to see them all together. Keep up the great work!
  10. Not bad at all. I think you did a great job on this. The other day I found someone's MOC of the same car accidentally while searching the web and it was pretty amazing. They even had Marty and Doc Brown minifigures. I've always been a huge fan of the Back To The Future series and I could probably quote each film word for word. Thanks for sharing!!
  11. Wow! They actually charge you to bag the items you purchased? There is a chain of grocery stores here in Philadelphia that charge 10 cents per bag but they are this discount store that sells stuff really cheap. I'm still surprised a Lego store would charge for the bag though. Must be a Canadian thing.
  12. I think you're being too hard on yourself. It's a wonderful MOC, a job well done!! I think you captured that "boxy" Volvo look quite well.
  13. Since I've posted this, the store I visit has changed the BAM setup drastically. It now contains many more "buckets" of parts and from time to time they fill it with rare pieces. I commented on another thread here about scoring 15 parts instead of building the figures. Everytime I stop in they have new parts that are quite rare so I've changed my mind on this. It's actually a pretty cool offering depending on where you go.
  14. That picture of the minifigure display is one of the most amazing things I've ever seen on here. That is one hell of a collection. Outstanding!
  15. I've always been able to find a good deal here and there. The best would have to be the hobby shop up the road from where I live, they sell the minifigure series at $2 a pack. So with the countless amount of minifigures I have bought I would say I made out pretty well.
  16. The Brickster, I am wondering if you could move this to the front page to gain some exposure? We might be able to get some other interested members that may not visit Train Tech often. If not, that's ok too.
  17. It looks like an FP-45 or similar with the cowl body design. I really like the way you used the colors and they appear to be a great match. This is far superior to your last MOC, not to say your last wasn't any good. You definitely captured an authentic look here. I would really like to see the CP decals on this when your finished. Excellent work!!!
  18. What a great MOC!! From the photos it looks much larger than it really is. The details are superb. Great work!!
  19. Somehow I missed this over the last week. Great work! I really love the interior details especially the lawn mower on display!! I like how you really changed up the flower colors, many of them can be hard to find. The building construction itself is done fantastically. I'm really jealous on some of the MOC's I see like this. I would love to have something like this in my collection. Outstanding!!
  20. Or "Themes on rails". :)
  21. I do most of my EB reading and posting from my iPhone and have no issues that way. I looked up Tapatalk to see exactly what it was and I would have no use for that. Not to say others couldn't benefit from it but I wouldn't use it.
  22. Awesome layout! I love the fact that you use ballast for your train tracks. Great job!
  23. Sadly, I have an odd obsession with my Lego bags and save them all. I'll use them to transport different things on trips home to see my parents or take a lunch to work in one. I could never cut them up like that. I know, it's weird. However, that's a very creative idea.
  24. It's certainly a good start. I'm looking forward to the finished product. Do you run 12v trains only or are you able to use the current PF trains as well? I'm not educated on the 12v stuff and don't know the track dimensions.
  25. How can I join the Big Cam fan club? You're my favorite MOD :)
