  1. Laughed out on that one. You may just have something, buying the two sets that is.
  2. I'm very surprised by the amount of negativity on this set. It's a beautiful design and maybe it's not perfect but at least it's being offered. I remember back many many years ago when Lego didn't offer anything close to this. It's ok not to like a set and offer critique but to insult the designer seems a bit childish. I look at the SW sets as Lego's "arty" designs because they are truly beautiful in many ways. This is certainly one of them.
  3. I'm more of a train guy if you can't tell but I grew up with the original Star Wars (Episodes 4-6) and I have a few sets. My most prized is the Imperial Star Destroyer 6211 and I just can't build it. Not that I physically can't, I just can't open the box and begin building. My other smaller sets are the same, Lukes Landspeeder for example, it just sits in it's box. I also plan on picking up the new Millennium Falcon 7965 and I'm sure it will be the same thing, I won't be able to open it. I have no problem buying other sets from various themes and opening them but it's just the Star Wars stuff, like it's precious art that will crumble if I touch it. Anyone else have this problem? Or am I just nuts?
  4. Aaaaah that sucks!! I hate scorpions!! I never realized there were scorpions in Germany though. I'm traveling to Texas in a couple weeks where they have plenty so I'm not looking forward to that. The worst thing I've ever found in my legos were spiders and silver fish. Nothing too freaky. Good luck to you.
  5. I found a small independent toy shop while visiting relatives today. They had some old and current sets. Unfortunately their prices were a bit high but I did manage to score set 7638 Tow Truck for about $15 which was cheaper than an eBay auctions. This set was out during my dark ages and I've wanted it for some time now. I plan on converting it into a hi-rail truck for my Lego train layout. If it works I'll probably post pictures.
  6. It looks really good and prototypical. That's a common method on many model railroad layouts. I would definitely keep it. You could add some detail to the actual tunnel portals or place random grey bricks at the foot of the tunnels to show blasted rock etc. Nice work.
  7. Excellent work all around. Not only is the MOC a great work but the instructions are perfect. That was really cool of you to make a gift like that. Outstanding work!!
  8. Now do you see? And you were worried. "If you build it, they will come". It's really come along from your original post. Keep up the good work.
  9. Much, much better. Looks good. Removing those chains was one of the best things you could have done. It really brought out a better look to it.
  10. I was very impressed with these buildings and then I went to your Flickr page and saw the Galaxy Diner and Empire theater. I was absolutely blown away by them. The detail of the interiors alone was insane especially in the theater. I've seen some diners in the past but not as well as yours. You've got some Lego museum quality buildings here. Great work!!
  11. Absolutely beautiful! Outstanding work! It has a nice Victorian feel to it. I can't compliment this enough. Great work!
  12. Not sure how I missed this one?? I think I read an earlier review of this but not as detailed so thank you for that! I've seen this available for order on TRU's site but I'm waiting for it to be released into the stores around here. I bought the last cargo train but this one appeals to me much more. I like the loco as it has a more industrial design than the last one. The train cars are more interesting to me as well. Thanks again for the great in-depth review.
  13. You're on your way to have one hell of a city! These MOCs are just amazing. I really like the front architecture on this one as well as the detailed interior. This is my second favorite after your Mexican restaurant. A vision clinic? Who would have thought how cool it could be? Great work!
  14. I'm really enjoying your buildings as they are quite nice. I like this one a lot but would like to see behind the counter items like a soda machine or a milkshake maker. It seems like you have a good amount of extra space to make it happen. Either way it's still a really cool MOC. Keep 'em coming!! Saw this after I posted - sorry
  15. One of the best detailed reviews I've seen on a set. Nice work. I actually remember this line during my dark ages and thinking "Lego is doing some weird stuff these days". These female aimed lines came out not long after I left Lego. I agree with some of the comments that it's not a very exciting set but it was perfect for what it really was... A set for young girls. I wouldn't mind owning some of the pastel pieces as I'm sure I could find a use for them. Again, great review.
  16. Ok, this is one of the coolest MOC buildings I have seen in a while. This is certainly not the normal town building that blends in. What a great piece! Not only is the exterior very eye catching but the interior is perfect. I would love to own something like this. Outstanding!!
  17. This is very cool. I especially like the fridge, a very nice touch. Great work!
  18. What's wrong with the Penn Central, other than the obvious? It's a fascinating history really and serves as an important time in railroading in the U.S. Many good things came out of it like deregulation which may have saved railroading as we know it today. I have always been heavily influenced by the trains I've seen growing up. Conrail had a main line about 10 blocks from my childhood home (originally a Reading/Pennsy line) and I spent many hours there each day. I was able to see most of the Penn Central power converted into Conrail blue and it made for some interesting lash-ups. Today's railfanning is pale in comparison to the plethora of locomotives seen in the early 80's. I model in N scale outside of Lego and it's all paint schemes that ran through the state of Pennsylvania at one time or another. I've found that most modelers prefer the trains they watched as a child and I'm certainly no different. Being from the all diesel generation I prefer diesel to steam, probably why my Maersk loco is my most prized possession. I've done one MOC so far and decaled it in Conrail and with more practice I plan to have an entire fleet of Conrail Lego trains. Can you tell I like Conrail?
  19. I followed this link this morning and was amazed at this guys work. He obviously makes a living building these works and they are quite impressive. I'm curious what his life size figures go for. Can't be cheap I'm sure. If I had a couple extra million laying around I would definitely buy some of his work.
  20. I think the minifigure collections have really brought many people back to Lego. Many adults love collectable items and most of us were amazed at the detail compared to the figures we had as children. Now with the increased distribution numbers on the minifigure sets I'm sure we will be seeing many more new members here in the very near future. I mean really, how can you just stop with the figures, the new sets are just too cool to pass up.
  21. Ive been meaning to comment but I don't like to be the first. Its not a bad start at all but I agree with the uniform color thing like Fugazi said. The grills are a bit of a distraction, you should try round fans on the top as this is more prototypical. I would also suggest removing the chains and install a hand rail system. Overall with some tweaking it could really stand out as a great model. It's a great start for your first one and I'd like to see the finished product. CP rail models are hard to come by as it is so this could be a very cool model.
  22. I've never actually seen a Harry Potter movie, yes I am far from the train forum right now. I was very impressed with your MOC as well as your short film. Very well done. Maybe I'll rent the films and check it out. Again, great job!!
  23. It almost has a Swiss railroading look to it. Very nice and simple like a classic tower. I'm curious if there are any interior details? I wouldn't tear it down either, definitely a keeper. Nice work.
  24. I actually really like this, well done!! That's a really cool take on a train station and why not use other themed parts to spice things up? Great job on this. Very original
  25. Most of the replies seem pretty serious to me. It may be that people don't think you're serious because it is an odd complaint.
