Waffles and Milk
ExeSandbox replied to ExeSandbox's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Thanks! Thank you! For the waffles, I just used a variety of sloped bricks, regular 1 stud wide bricks, with some plates and tiles. -
I saw an image of a container house somewhere and I thought "Hey, I should build that in LEGO..." Fast forward a year and I finally got to making it. It also gave me the opportunity to play around with some angles with both the containers and decor elements. (I didn't place the stuffs on a single stud and just rotate it (except for the tiles leading to the door, but each of them is still connected to a stud). I relied on the probability of stud connections for a certain angle, for solidity. Not cheating ) Also thought it would be cool to differentiate the wall texture on each of the containers. The back panels of the containers can be hinged open to reveal the inside, which is also fully detailed (and totally clean too..., somehow I can't build dirty houses). Aside from that, there are many details to spot for. More images can be seen at my Flickr page

That is really cool! The boom is heavy and gives the model an impressive look.

Looks really good! The angle of the building is always fantastic. I really like what you have done with the ground as well.

Waffles and Milk
ExeSandbox replied to ExeSandbox's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
That's a good idea, I'll definitely try that for my next one Oh my. I didn't expect anyone to think it's not LEGO... But I am thrilled nonetheless! -
While not much of a foodie myself, I really love the idea of building food with LEGO bricks. This is my first (official) attempt at making food with bricks! Some waffles topped with butter and berries, drizzled with some maple syrup. The poor glass of milk is out of focus. I would really love some feedback on this. Do you think the maple syrup looks okay? Should the plate be square instead of circle to avoid the jagged edges? Thanks!

MOC: Voltron - Just Waiting 10,000 Years For A Paladin To Arrive
ExeSandbox replied to ExeSandbox's topic in LEGO Licensed
Thanks! I do hope I would have the opportunity to build in real life someday. There are many elements in colors that currently not available (I might have to color the parts myself), plus the overall size of this model, it's definitely going to be a challenge- 10 replies

Following the release of the LEGO Voltron Set, LEGO Ideas had this contests (It's long over now, so I am a little late to post this :D) to build the most imaginative Voltron scene. My entry features the Green Lion casually reading a book inside it's tree trunk bunk, while the alien bunnies are messing with the Green Lion's stuff. I built this scene in digital, but after it's done, it made me wish I had this right on my desk! It also took me 2 weeks to build, (it was hard, there was a deadline...) but I still made it as a Runner-Up winner! Enjoy (:D More images can be found here

Honestly, I am pretty disappointed by the design and I am usually the one who would find every reason to like a LEGO set. Some of the clever parts usage does not serve it's purpose well to complement the building. The Parisian Restaurant is the perfect example of clever parts usage that perfectly fits the theme and design. But for the corner garage, it seemed that they try to fit as many clever building techniques just because. The color scheme does not stand out as compared to the Downtown Diner or the Detective's Office, and while it is nice to have Dark Orange again, I don't think it's put to good use here. One modular I can think of that had a similar type of design with a simple color scheme would be the Grand Emporium. But there's just that little something the GE had that made it work. The Corner Garage also has MOC-ish design to it, not to say that's bad, but the innovation that previous Modular Buildings had is lacking in this one. The techniques used for the diagonal angles, the windows, and the Garage area does look pretty cool. Well that's just my thoughts. I am sure the designers did a lot of experimentation with the color scheme and design, and they did a very good job actually. As a building, the Corner Garage is actually a really solid design. Perhaps with the advent of Modular Buildings we had in the past few years have made our expectations for the next one greater than ever, especially with the fact that we just had the Downtown Diner this year, which I thought was mind blowing (although some people didn't like it?) (I am really curious to know who designed this building! It's actually starting to grow on me, and I do like the interior. Maybe seeing it in real life would do it justice?) Edit: I saw some more images, and damn, when placed beside the Diner, this suddenly became a masterpiece. Must Buy. I don't even know if what I said above are coherent anymore...

Thanks! A lot of the colors and details were accidental and they ended up working really well. But I wouldn't consider submitting this to LEGO Ideas. While this is a nice MOC, I wouldn't want it to become an actual set, and giving LEGO the rights to this model would restrict what I can do with it.

This model started out as a simple sketch, and I wanted to see if I could built a fully completed LEGO version of it, and here it is! The Forestside house, as the name suggest, is supposed to be located in the forest, highlighted by the trees in the background. On the exterior, there is a swimming pool, garage, driveway, and some nice glass fencing. The house itself, has got a balcony, a rooftop lounge, and some nice big windows for a scenic view. The interior is also fully detailed with a living room, dining area, kitchen, bathroom, study, and a bedroom. Overall this model took me about 2 month to create, and I hope you enjoy it!

When I first saw the official Aston Martin DB5 set, I wasn't really impressed by it's looks. It's kinda blocky, there were some oddly placed parts, and the action features might have compromised on the interior and the overall shape of the car. Because of a James Bond contest on LEGO Ideas, an Aston Martin DB5 was needed in what I had wanted to build but it was all in chrome gold (You can check that out here). So I recolored it and that's how it looks like. The whole car is completely new build, with elements from the actual set. Changes were made to the sides of the car, I used the Ferrari F40 windscreen and added windows to the doors, the metal bumpers are new, the roof has a bit more curves and the interior is new and more detailed. Not saying the actual set is bad, in fact, as I was building this model, I had build the Aston Martin DB5 set for reference, and as I was recreating it, I was amazed at the engineering and technical ingenuity that went into the set. There were so many elements that had to be placed in weird angles and they were properly secured, especially in the window area. The window area in my re-creation is very flimsy and would fall apart when picked up. After building this MOC I had a newfound respect for the Aston Martin DB5 set and would say that it is one of the best cars that LEGO has created. (But still, couldn't the designer had just fit in a little more curves :D) Anyways, I think I have done a pretty good job in adding more curves and shape, although it could actually use some more. But if someone is able to create an even better version I would be thrilled!

sorry! question about 60197 and creator expert's building
ExeSandbox replied to ks6349's topic in General LEGO Discussion
LEGO does not frequently produce trains. At this point there are only two LEGO city trains that are not retired, the 60197 and 60198, but they are pricey. If you want trains that can fit the modular buildings better, the creator expert Horizon Express, Emerald Night, or Maersk Freight Train is recommended, but they are all unfortunately retired long ago and should be priced up in the aftermarket. -
sorry! question about 60197 and creator expert's building
ExeSandbox replied to ks6349's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Hello. The LEGO City 60197 Passenger Train is a 2018 set, so it should not be retired yet. Compared to the modular buildings, it is a little small, and the proportions of the train does seem to be shorter compared to real-life passenger trains or the LEGO Creator Expert 10233 Horizon Express. Buying two sets and doubling up on the cars to make it longer would definitely work. And yes, the train tracks do come with the set. -
Fantastic! The shaping of the buildings are unique and the color scheme is brilliant! Great work!

It's not working for me again for some reason :D I tried switching between graphic processors, folder arrangements, launching LDD first or last, but it does nothing when I press the convert button... Error message still remains the same: UnityException: LoadRawTextureData: not enough data provided (will result in overread). at (wrapper managed-to-native) UnityEngine.Texture2D:LoadRawTextureData_ImplArray (byte[]) at UnityEngine.Texture2D.LoadRawTextureData (System.Byte[] data) [0x00000] in <filename unknown>:0 at Manager.Load3dxml () [0x00000] in <filename unknown>:0 at Manager.DoStuff (Boolean exportModel, Boolean weldModel) [0x00000] in <filename unknown>:0 at Manager.OnGUI () [0x00000] in <filename unknown>:0 (Filename: Line: -1) (Does it have anything to do with me having an outdated version of Unity installed)

Does the tile-in-clip technique damage the parts?

It is a risky connection. I've rarely had clips break from this connection before, but it does happen.- 9 replies

[Poll] What do you do with new sets?
ExeSandbox replied to mocbuild101's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I would normally build the model, leave it on the desk for admiration, then place in on a shelf for it to collect some dust. Only when absolutely necessary, I would take them apart to build a new MOC for whatever reason, and most likely take it apart a month or two later to restore the original models back. But back when I was a kid, no set could remain untouched for a month. It would be disassembled, so that I could build new stuff and whatever parts that remains would be stuffed into whatever packaging I had. It was fun back then, but it led to many of the parts breaking. I would sometimes sort the parts by color, especially when there are a whole ton of mixed up parts from different sets. But for a fresh new set, the numbered bags solved the sorting issue.
