The Future of Lego Space. (opinions, ideas, discussion)
Captain Mutant replied to Trekkie99's topic in LEGO Sci-Fi
Hello everyone. I’ve started dabbling on the YouTube and made a video about a forthcoming LEGO space set - I’m thinking it might be of interest to people on this thread :) And while I’ve got your attention, I also took a look at a space set that LEGO Ideas refused to have on the site (and no, it’s not because it was bad ;)- 991 replies

Maybe I’m an old mutant but the original truly is the best. It’s a planet with a ship swooshing past it, and it also looks like Saturn, a faraway planet, propelling the sense of adventure and pioneering exploration. All the others feel more contained IMHO. And this recent one, is close, but it looks like the ship’s a zipper lol- 991 replies

I think you're likely right - I might've been thinking of the logo from sets such as this one: https://shop.lego.com/en-GB/product/Spaceport-60080 (I have no idea how to embed images in a comment - would be so much easier - sorry for being a noob) it's weird that the new logo looks so familiar to me... and yet isn't. Don't know where I'd have seen it elsewhere...- 991 replies

I’m really liking this new space theme - although maybe a tad too earthbound. Can’t wait to see them in the flesh - so to speak. btw, that space logo... I thought it’d been used before, but now can’t find any previous set with it. Can anyone with more knowledge confirm or deny this?- 991 replies

Hi! first the easy question: in honour of the 40th anniversary of Classic Space, the set has 1978 pieces. Re the airlock connection, you’re right: half of the airlock (the ramp, the white door and one stud beyond) is a self contained construct which is attached by a couple of SNOT studs to the main base. Remove it and those exposed studs can be connected to the other base. I’ve designed it in such a way that you can’t connect the modules if they’ll block the opening of the walls. It works pretty well. Maybe I should do a video to explain the procedure. Thanks for your support!

wow love the image! Interesting note: the original design for my alien species also included wings! Making the design extremely similar. I’ve got the sketch on my computer somewhere. Will have to find it and post it here. Hopefully tomorrow.- 991 replies

You're right: a different colour would've been nice. Personally, I'm quite excited by those geode pieces. Has LEGO ever produced something like that before? I know they made crystals, and gold nuggets, but I don't remember seeing those geodes before. (I might make good use of them in my project ;)- 991 replies

These new sets look pretty interesting. I like the fact that my own Ideas proposal is kinda compatible with them. I’m going to have fun with them (as long as they’re not too expensive), although I’m a little shocked a decapitated mutant head is in one of the sets!- 991 replies

Thanks! I felt that was important and a way to create a massive base with loads of different rooms with just a single set. I went through so many variations to create the best connection possible... fun learning experience ?

Hello everyone. I haven't been out of the dark ages for long - just 3 or so years. Although the Millennium Falcon is what dragged be back into LEGO, my passion has always been with Classic Space. I've spent ages (literally ages) creating this base. I submitted it to LEGO Ideas last year, and then proceeded to making massive changes to it. I have submitted the modified version it to Lego Ideas recently, but would really value a discussion about it with people on this board :)

Yes the new submission. It’s a massively revamped version of the old one, but the construction, gribbling and internal designs are different enough to warrant the “new” monicker ? Oh and I was able to delete the image from my signature ! #HappyDays- 991 replies

Yeah - they should've stuck to blue highlights ? Thing is I'm so desperate for a decent sci-fi space theme, that I don't care what colour it is, as long as it's good! (and I can't be the only one)- 991 replies

LEGO Ideas Discussion
Captain Mutant replied to The Real Indiana Jones's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Has there been any rumours as to when the Treehouse will be released by LEGO Ideas? Steamboat Willie has been released in amazing record time, but I’ve seen no word whatsoever about the treehouse. Has anybody been more lucky than me on that front?
