  1. I agree. And if I remember correctly, the first space theme was just another division of LegoLand (hence the LL for the ship numbers). I really hope they release something that will appeal to us die-hards as well as the younger generation. Not an easy balance to master...
  2. Or maybe something like what I had submitted to Ideas ? Near-Futuristic would be ideal. No aliens (hypocritical, I know, considering what I look like), no conflict. Just research and exploration like it was in the first waves back in the 70s.
  3. Oh my god this is really exciting! I've been hoping for LEGO to properly return into space and this looks like a proper collection of sets! Do we know when in the year these are rumoured to be released?
  4. What about this set? https://shop.lego.com/en-GB/product/Space-Shuttle-Explorer-31066 yes it’s a traditional US space shuttle but it’s a sci-fi setting with a base somewhere on a planet.
  5. Great review - I'm really looking forward to this wave. BTW, I heard the Gibraltar spaceship can be split into two... did you notice if that what the case when you were playing with it?
  6. That makes it all ok then! :P
  7. yes I believe it's a new part.
  8. That ship looks really impressive - unlike Rex's Rexplorer which looks like a tank mated with a shoebox :/
  9. I think we're so desperate for Classic Space stuff (myself included) that any hint of a CS set would excite us. But look at Benny's Space Squad - it's only minifigs and a handful of pieces. Yes, I'll be getting it myself too for sure, but let's be honest, this is really a poor set. To the starving man, crumbs feel like a banquet... :/
  10. Don't forget Sweet Mayhem's Systar Starship! (502 pieces) https://shop.lego.com/en-GB/Sweet-Mayhem-s-Systar-Starship-70830
  11. IS there a link to this photo?
  12. I like that spaceship, and its launch tower. I know nothing of Overwatch, but I fear I'm going to have to add that set to my collection :)
  13. you obviously missed the " ;) " As if a base would be similar to what the other poster wanted, ie a mech. Sorry I pissed you off. 'twas not the intent.
  14. Well... my MOC ticks most of your boxes - it's a space theme (check), it's modular, ie you can connect multiple copies together (check) and you can rebuild the innards in 5 different ways (check)... but it's not a mech... Still, 3 out of 4 ain't bad, right? ;)
  15. You mean something like ... Planetary Outpost? ?
  16. It does sound good, but those spaceships would have to go somewhere, so we'd still need a base or two, for refuelling, repairs, and R&R :)
  17. Looking at the trailer, it looks like we’ll get a couple of ships (including a house-ship) but it may be that most of the new space characters will be mini dolls.
  18. It’s amazing how fast it’s gathering support. I was put off though by the fact it only has two walls and no roof. But obviously that isn’t bothering most people ?
  19. I think I might be able to help ? https://captainmutantblog.wordpress.com/planetary-outpost/
  20. He didn't say yes or no about a lot of stuff, we haven't got a categoric answer about any kind of space theme. As far as we know, LEGO might... or might not be planning something. However, if you're looking for a Mars theme from LEGO, our little yellow minifig friends have already gone there ;) http://lego.wikia.com/wiki/Mars_Mission
  21. Good point, julesvincent. I'm sure there's loads he knows that he just can't reveal yet because the plans, sets, goals, etc haven't officially been announced.
  22. I’m surprised about Mike’s concern about nostalgia, as I thought nostalgia played a big part is many sets LEGO create. As Danth said, the snowspeeder was a great example: a highly detailed vehicle last seen 38 years ago. But what about last year’s modular expert building? It was 100% nostalgia too, filled with detail that reminded you of previous modular buildings. Nostalgia sells, especially with this particular toy. I know there’s an appetite for Classic Space sets (I’m a huge fan myself), so you have to wonder what are LEGO waiting for? 2018 would’ve been a perfect time to test the waters with a single set (as it’s the 40th anniversary of Classic Space), maybe a modular expert one as raised in the interview, to see how many people actually are interested in an in-house sci-fi theme (kinda the reason I submitted my own model on LEGO Ideas ;) So if the designers are wondering if it’s worrh delving back into space or not, why was nothing ready for the anniversary?
