Catching Carla Corona....
Fenghuang0296 replied to jansued's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
So, are they going after Corey Corona next? :P Seriously though, nice work! -
Hey, so has everyone noticed the weird blue vortex featured prominently in all the S13 sets’ box arts? It looks like either a portal or the opening of a cave, right? I took a closer look at the back of the Journey set, and it looks to me like there’s a boarded-up cave entrance at the upper rear - behind the troll guy’s fancy sword. And it looks like it’s a chunk of a board game, right? You can see the white squares leading up to the ‘entrance’. I think this set is, literally, player characters (IE the Ninja) journeying to the Dungeon and entering it through the boarded-up entrance.

A stranded boat house in Apocalypseburg sounds awesome. Actually, my city’s more of a floating island setup, so I’ll probably be converting it into a sort of flying cargo barge. (That’s actually secretly a hideout for some supervillains - maybe Egghead from TLBM, I’ve been looking for a place to put him and his mech after installing Condiment King as a fast food chef.) It’s really more of a Star Wars-like spaceport, with berths to display some of my favourite spaceships (the Benatar from Avengers is there, so’s the big Overwatch shuttle, and I have a spot reserved for the Razorcrest) and a big runway to enable air shows. (Got the idea for that from the Hidden Side Stunt Plane). I want to add some more ‘shantytown’ builds to really emphasise the idea that it’s the bad part of town, and adding a moored cargo vessel that everyone knows but no one says is secretly the headquarters for the local mafia or what have you is perfect. And give how huge it is, it’ll easily become one of the big landmarks of the area. Now, if only they’d make a Kingpin minifigure . . -
Oh, I didn’t notice that! I saw but the lighting’s bad so I thought it was just gunmetal again, but that is a nice touch, yes!

Ooh, yay! Nya comes in the Journey set! That’s a relief, I was worried I wouldn’t be able to get her again. (Seriously, she’s been in exactly four sets in the last year, the only one of which I wanted was the Gamer’s Market. And that barely counts because she was in a weird swimsuit, not a ninja suit.) The Spinjitzu Surge sets look weird. And I . . can’t actually make out a lot of the details. Hopefully we’ll get clear images alongside these weird stylised box designs (which are cool but uninformative - I know nothing more about the makeup of the Journey set now than I did two months ago when the prelim pics leaked). Okay, I’m looking closer and that wasn’t fair, these box arts do show the actual sets. There’s just so much going on in the background it’s distracting.

Those are neat, but having thought about it a bit more, I think the ones I want most are the Secret HQ - because a ship slash hideout like that will be perfect in my city’s industrial area - and the Food Truck, because it’s only fourteen studs wide and should fit quite snugly in a space I’ve got, as a ‘restaurant’. Maybe also the Red Son Inferno Truck, because it’d suit my crime syndicate pretty well as a ‘boss vehicle’. Assuming I can find somewhere to put it. The Monkey Mech is gorgeous but probably gonna be outside my budget if I’m getting the Secret HQ . . -

I don’t care as long as some of it shows up in Australia at secondary retailers. Shop@Home never does discounts . . Also, I just noticed, it’s easy to miss but Pigsy uses the newer medium-size legs! And they’re printed - this is the first time printed medium legs have been included outside of a CMF. Awesome! Between this and Kid having side printing on his legs, you can tell they’re really pulling out the stops for minifig design this theme . . which makes it kinda suck that the Bull Goons don’t have leg prints . . -

The ‘leaked’ prices are fake, they’re direct conversions of the Hong Kong prices that don’t take into account the fact that the Chinese intentionally increase their prices for the sake of ‘premium’. It was discussed earlier in the thread, point is we can expect to see them cheaper than the rumoured prices. -

Do you have confirmation of this? Or is it just observation? Also, evil demon sorceress, ha. How does the Red Son play into it then? -

As far as I can make out on the box, her name is actually Mei. She appears in armour in both the horse-cycle and the boat (in which she appears to get a JetSki) but I’m pretty sure that the green-clad girl in the Red Son Truck is her in casual clothes. Which is pretty great. Speaking of, it is weird that so many of these sets come with one or two civilians, right? I mean it’s great for city building (sorta ironic given almost none of these builds lend themselves to city building, though I think I’ll mark out a lot for Pigsy’s Food Truck) but it’s weird. The only other times I can think of that they did that were Alien Conquest and The LEGO Ninjago Movie. Also, if you’ll permit me speculating on the plot a bit, seeing how Monkey King (Sun Wukong) and Monkie Kid are in the same set and there’s no visible transformation function, I no longer think Kid is Sun Wukong - I think Kid is his son. And this theme is going to explore his adventures with his friends as he tries to live up to his father’s legacy - which would also explain why Pigsy is the only character who looks more-or-less true to legend, because he’s the actual Pigsy, a friend of his father’s who is taking a mentor role. (And apparently opened a pork restaurant, at which Kid has a part-time job.) -

Really? Well, that’s a relief. Glad to hear it . . now to address my lack of display space for all this awesome stuff. -

Those prices are USD right? {curses} Yeah . . I mean I wasn’t planning to get more than a couple of these anyway, don’t have space, but at prices like that . . I really don’t see myself picking up more than the minimum. -

Hey, I just noticed! Mei’s sword uses the Dragonbone Sword Hilt in white! That’s the first time the part’s been recoloured from gold! Awesome! -

Oh, I see. Three more? Interesting. Maybe an October or December wave? Or just retail exclusives . . though a $140 USD retail exclusive sounds unlikely . . -

It’s the same wig and what looks like a very similar face and cape, but the torso’s different, you can see that it’s cool yellow like the Kid’s main shirt is. Oh yeah, didn’t see that. Whoops. Eh that one’s pretty meh, don’t feel the need to get it. -

Seriously? Sixteen more sets or sixteen total sets? Because a twenty-four-set debut wave (or even combination of the first two waves) sounds incredibly unlikely, not even Mario’s getting that. Not even the Movies got that. -

I know right?! The Monkey King Mech is so gorgeous! And it’s actually the only set to come with a structure side build, and a pretty chunky one too . . The King Mech and the White Horse Bike, those are the two I want from this theme. I don’t care if I don’t have anywhere to put it, for a mech that gorgeous I’ll install a new shelf just to display it. -

This is eight, and I think the leaked names had eight listings. Though I’m sure I remember a ‘Bull Demon Bike’ . . though I’m pretty sure there was only the Red Son Truck, not that other barrel launching six-wheeler, so maybe something got lost in translation. Either way, I think this eight is all for this wave. -

Holy crap some of these look amazing . . and I don’t think I can get any of them because they’re all next to useless for city building, even for a city as eclectic as mine, and I can’t think of anything to do with most of them. I’m seeing four main heroes and I think I have their names from the box arts, Monkey Kid himself, ‘Mei’ (the white/green Sentai girl), ‘Sandy’ (big blue first-to-leak), and Pigsy. And obviously Monkey King in the big mech but I’m not sure he’s gonna really be a main hero. Still, these are really cool. I definitely want to pick up the White Horse Bike, because the figs are great and I want Mei. Besides that, not sure on the rest . . still, they’re cool and if I can find an excuse I’ll go for it. Holy crap two more just showed up! Pigsy’s food truck and the Red Son truck thing both look just as cool. Side note, one thing that makes me really happy? This theme isn’t just about the hero vehicles like Ninjago has been recently. The bad guys are getting just as much love. Now if only we had structures . . Also, say, wasn’t there supposed to be a Bull Demon Bike? -
Unless I’ve missed something that book figure is the same as the one from the Ultra Dragon set last year. And this ‘Megaweapon’ is made of common pieces. I could probably find enough parts in my collection to make one for each of the Ninja. It’s not particularly exclusive.

You’ve seen them? Where? They’re not on #legoleaks yet. EDIT: Wait, you’re a leaker. Stupid question. Nevermind.

LEGO City 2020 - Rumors, Speculation, and Discussion
Fenghuang0296 replied to Digger of Bricks's topic in LEGO Town
As a rule, I’m rarely interested in City sets. But that underwater base is pretty gorgeous. I approve! I actually do have an underwater area in my town, so I might just pick that one up. -
Oh yeah! Though he was technically in a set in the Day of the Departed . . still, I’d say that counts! Which means we actually haven’t had a wave with no non-Ninja supporting protagonist since The Final Battle! Whew! Yeah it’s gonna happen, I’m certain now.

Interesting hypothesis, but themes don’t just come out of thin air. It would have had to be in the works well before COVID-19 was even around. Still, I hope you’re fight, if only because of how cool LEGO combining mecha would be. I would be so down for some type of LEGO Megazord created by combining four or five separate vehicles. -
Both of which I plan to get. Guess I’ll have to think up something to do with partly-armoured guards dressed in blue. Probably guards . . Say, Season 11 had Akita, and Season 12 had Scott. I don’t suppose you can tell us yet whether this season also has a new, one-off protagonist character? Because it’s becoming a real trend. Legacy didn’t really but Samurai X might sort of count? And Hunted had Skylor, and S.O.G. had Harumi (she wasn’t a villain at the time) and Hutchins . . and Hands of Time had Ray and Maya, and Day of the Departed had Nelson . . wow, we haven’t had a wave without at least one non-ninja supporting protagonist since Skybound . . and before that Ghost Story had Ronin, Tournament of Elements had Skylor, Rebooted had Pixal . . Nevermind I think the answer’s going to be yes.
